Do you know how much per day it costs to house one of these people in a facility? Fat chance of that. To waste one dollar on drug treatment is obscene in an of its self. Just look at Hunter Biden alone, how many trips through the rehab do you think it will take? Probably 2 trips could put a kid through college. It is insane. They do not want these people in jails due to the cost and pain in the rump that they are. There are no real mental health services as it is, it is just a money grab. Nothing more.
There is a lot of hesitation on the part of the government concerning mental institutions because there were horrid conditions in mental institutions in the past. That is why they were all shut down previously. The living conditions were horrid and abuse was rampant. There would have to be a nationwide effort when it comes to operations of these institutions. There are many documentaries about mental institutions, psychiatric wards and sanitariums and their God awful history, and it would be criminal in our part to just let them open them back up without any oversight. But yes, I live in Orange County which is next to LA and you are absolutely correct about many being too far gone. ✊👊✌️

My sister-in-laws non-profit was recently taken over by a board of directors more interested in lining their pockets and making sure their friends financially benefit before the non-profit is dismantled. Unfortunately there is no protection for the organizations that help the homeless and the indigent from these people.
Putting up small, 10x10 structures on empty lots with a common area restroom/showers and a 24 hr security guard would not take very long to make happen. Other communities have done this. Then each homeless person is given a choice: choose this housing along with accountability and mental health/ drug rehab services or become incarcerated. People that are mentally too far gone will need to be safely and humanely housed in a mental health facility. We need to start implementing these things now, not in the future.
Yes but these communities for them need to be built far away from the rest of us. We don't need insane drug addicts and criminals wandering our streets. The community we would build for them would have everything they need such as drugs alcohol food Medical Care shelter mental health care Etc. They could leave if they are sane and sober and have a way to support themselves and a place to live. They’re most definitely is an agenda beyond all of this rhetoric. I used to work for the VA for 10 years, specifically in an area called HPACT. Its sole purpose was devoted to housing, homeless veterans, which they did a lousy job at. The state of California had allocated to them over $700 million to address the homeless situation. It is beyond me to understand the rationale behind the methods they’re taking to so-call address this catastrophe. With all of these empty, unoccupied, warehouses strip malls, and even some hotels and motels across this whole state, are you telling me that they don’t have the power, to change some planning and zoning codes to accommodate what they claim they’re trying to address with an urgency? These people need to be audited from the mayor on down. This money is going somewhere and is definitely not to the homeless. They need to also initiate an intense mental health component to housing many of these people. a high percentage of them suffer from mental illness, and even if you house them there’s no guarantee That they will remain. I’m not an expert, but even with the little knowledge that I have regarding this issue, it’s totally infuriates me that the people who are supposed to have the answers no less than I do.
