I can't get over the narrative dissonance of someone explaining an instrument with the same level of passion, understanding, and skill about their classical instrument. And then when the demonstrations start "Bring me the horizon" is suddenly playing. I'm currently falling down a drummer rabbithole and it's been fascinating so far.
I needed a China cymbal for a piece my college’s wind symphony was playing, I bought the 18” B8X China after seeing your video on the line, along with the 16” B8 Pro Agitator stack. I’m mostly using AA and AAX cymbals with the 22” HHX Legacy ride when I’m playing heavier styles but I love using that 18” B8X China with that setup. In my senior Percussion recital I used that China and it was so loud that I had to substitute it for a crash in rehearsals because the rehearsal space was small. My recital had a bunch of Prog tunes I arranged for my band, one of which was Another Year by Animals as Leaders, and the ending breakdown sounded awesome on stage with that China. My favorite super heavy breakdown in music might be Habitual Line Stepper by Periphery. I also really like the breakdowns in TesseracT’s Altered State album, especially Proxy and Nocturne.
A non-musician (noob) question. When in rock and metal is a china normally preferred? Is it something used instead of a crash cymbal? Is it used normally where a crash would be used, but is more aggressive?
Thanks for this video! I have heard China cymbals in many songs before I watched your video, but I never knew that the cymbals are called China cymbals. When "7empest" by Tool is at 10 minutes and 35 seconds, I was totally amazed, I guess that could be a China cymbal? Here is the link to the official audi: ua-cam.com/video/9D2R69gVyZ0/v-deo.html
What's your go-to cymbal for earth-shattering breakdowns?
18" Zildjian oriental china trash, the quintessential china
What was it
Novo conical china cymbal
closed hi-hat
Wuhan Koi Connical China.

Glad my B8X video could help! China cymbals can be super loud (although my HHX 18" China isn't too crazy) - but, when on stage, go mad :)
I love my 19" holy china. Sounds so crisp.
A fine cymbal!
Probably my Zildjian 16” China Trash. Our guitarist refuses to stand too close to it!
Amazing!!
demolisher by slaughter to prevail
Absolutely
I use upsidedown unbranded old splash cymbal I literally found in the trash down my old building, I molded the edges with a torch, it's my go-to
Sounds pretty interesting!
I’d like an hhx complex version of this with a bigger lip with a zen chine profile.
I would normally use a 21" holy china but I can't find it for some reason?
I may return it to you… maybe!😉

A solid question… it can be many things - replacing a crash; implying a heavier feel; accenting a snare or kick etc etc
Thank you!@@louistotalcontrol
The title would lead me to expect a Slam song. But you did say "Hardcore Breakdowns".
Nice!
That’s a sick ass cover bro!!!
You MUST play the breakdown from demolisher with it
nice one mate. that is sounding great, would go well with a THY ART IS MURDER track (wink, wink)
The good news is with modern medications you can keep your antibody levels low and live a long and prosperous life…
BEST VIDEO TITLE EVER 🤣🤣🤣

Mate check the new animals As leaders tune - would love to see you cover this. It’s called Monomyth
Just a small request, then? ;)
Going for bmth as one of the songs and not doing the intro of Traitors is a crime
Sofiest Breakdown.
Ohne die Löcher könnte man das Ding auch safe gut als Wok benutzen
Literally lamest songs
