I’m from Singapore. Here’s the trend for us.. 1. BMF and SS is basically fast becoming a toilet plant. The prices are dropping. You can get a BMF/ SS for less than SGD$100. 2. Everyone wants a delta force and is waiting to get their hands on one. I got mine for SGD$200. 3. Orange princess/ pink galaxy is everywhere here. SGD$40 a pot 4. Deli area and albo is still VERY expensive here because of how slow growing the plant is. 5. Billie is still very expensive but surely going down. In Singapore, we like bet on reverted plants. So plants like golden dragon and Billie can go as low as SGD$100 for a single leaf cutting. You are betting that the next leaf has variegation again. I was personally very lucky had a SSS variegation from a single leaf cutting. 6. The caramel marble prices is coming down because many people are cutting their plants. Though there are many listings at lower prices, these usually have very low variegation. Those with pink and well marbled hues are still very highly priced. lastly, just to share, with variegated plants, one should always try and go for a plant with good genes. If the price is out of reach at the moment, wait a little while. There’s really no point in buying poor gens plants because they are never gonna look like the dream plants. All the best to all in 2024! Happy planting!
I actually love the way the Rare plant market operates compared to other "luxury" goods markets. New and interesting things are discovered and their prices are ridiculous, but people clout chasing or collectors are willing to pay those prices, and within a year or so enough tissue cultures are created to drop the price to reasonable levels for those who actually just really like and want the plant but can't afford to drop thousands of dollars to add it to their collection. It is nice that this community has people who can afford to pay such steep prices for new and rare plants, but who are also willing to allow tissue cultures to be taken and sold off their mother plant to saturate the market.
Thanks so much for the great content!! I look forward to your videos each week!! Ur channel is my fav thing to watch on UA-cam. Appreciate all the info and the way you present/topics you choose are always so interesting! Wishing you a happy new year!!
You buy plants you like , and you ensure you look after them. I got hold of a large cutting of Philodendron pink queen marble for about 5 dollars. Affordable and will grow to my conditions in my house. There is a lot of hype in the plant world. You pay a lot, they get damaged in the post and they die or you have to chop it up and start again, then they rot.
Ecuagenera had 4 inch spiriti sanctus for $100 a few weeks ago. Really hoping for the caramel marble to drop. Really interested to see the orange princess to drop as well. I got a cutting for $80 in 2023. Haven't seen a red congo yet very beautiful. Omg the Anthuriums. I hope so
I think I’m convinced I need a mint as the last Monstera for my collection. (Yeah, right😉). Do you have any tc inbound in your shop? Watched a documentary on Roberto Marx. I was saying “Burl” like you, but apparently it is pronounced “Burley”. I surrender. Love the BMF and am lovingly waiting my first lobster claw. Happy New Year all! Thank you for the great content all year!
@@prettyingreen ok. I may recind. I just watched another video and they called him “Burl”, which is what I thought is the masculine. I’m back to being confused. 😂
I can’t wait for the BMF to get consistently at $100. I’ll definitely be getting one once that happens. To my understanding, all the specimens on the market are likely tissue culture, whether it’s a small plant or a cutting. Since the BMF is like the DF, and it’s from a specific individual from Burle Marx collections in Brazil.
Another great video! I think you’re spot on about prices not just because of TC but the economy, in general. Lots of people are struggling with bills and as lovely and desirable as plants are, people are willing to wait for lack of demand, and overabundance of TC to get their plants. What will be interesting is seeing if any of these plants become “rare” again as the flooded market adjusts, sellers quit producing them, and masses of people lose/kill their plants off. 😏 As for the anthurium, I agree there too, except I’m also going to throw in that more people are going to be interested in “Dark pretty anthurium” than they are “RA this” or “OG that”…because the Ecuadorian suppliers have *flooded* the entire world with Central and South American plants. Everything has been made available in their own massive TC labs, as well as the Asian labs, so the exclusivity some sellers have enjoyed is about to end. The only exclusiveness that will be left is figuring out how to keep a Debilis/Kuna alive outside a cabinet. 😂
Shade on the OG anthurium! I have a queen and big bill acclimating from the bag. I'm trying to collect the "basic" anthurium, but I'm so bad at growing them, even in a climate controlled space. I'm hoping if I grow from plugs/tc babes, they'll like my conditions more (which aren't bad at all at 70-80°, 70-80% humidity).
@@prettyingreen I shouldn't say OG in the anthurium world as Scott claimed OG for his plants from RA. Oh, anthurium culture. "We're not gatekeeping buuutttt..."🙄
May 2024 - I just purchased a gorgeous healthy pink princess philodendron at Trader Joe's for $10.75. Feeling sorry for those suckers who bought into the ridiculous price gouging hype. Just be patient guys.
Any content out there about pros and cons for TC vs cloning? Just curious why some invest on cloning vs TC on plants. Would anyone ever consider cloning for the variegated billie?
Can you pls explain how monstera albo and aureas are going in tc? I thought that when they were tc’d, they would come out either all white or all green as they are chimeric variegation. But at the same time, I know frydeks are in tc. Any info and help understanding would be greatly appreciated!! Ty!!
They are doing so without stable variegation, so you are correct-some will come out with good marbled coloring, but some will come out all green/ all variegated
2 years now been staring at caramel marbles...not financially fortunate like some but might finally get one from one of those Asian countries for less than US$100 but the shipping to my country almost doubles the cost 😅
Have they crossed a delta force with another delta force from a totally separate cutting from longer ago.. where they’re so many leaf generations separated? lol imagine luckily being able to make seed of delta force and not telling anyone?
In my grower world there are plant patents so there's no yahoo selling cuttings of certain plants like Proven winners or Plants that work or first edition. Don't this breeders patent their plants so it protects them? crazy

Adding to this list, the Anthurium Delta Force TC. Its already making rounds in the market.
Ooooo is it already being passed around in Asia in TC form?
I just got a spiritus sancti for $65 😳 when I first became interested in plants I just assumed I'd never even get to see one let alone own one!
