Whisky.com reviews the Penderyn Madeira Finish. This award-winning Penderyn was subsequently matured in wine barrels after it was stored in bourbon barrels. Then the whisky was bottled with a pleasant 46% vol.

FYI, it's not Gaelic, which is only spoken in Ireland and Scotland. It's Welsh, which is a completely different language.
Welsh is Gaelic
@@kieranwilliams1817 No it most certainly is not!
@@jamesxenophon9505 it is man.
@@kieranwilliams1817 It bloody well is not! Irish, Scots Gaelic and Manx are Gaelic. Welsh , Cornish and Breton are Brythonic. Both Gaelic and Brythonic are Celtic!
Just got a bottle of this and its absolutely gorgeous. Hardly any burn goes down really well and 46% . Winner by all accounts. Very impressed by this whiskey. Sweet crisp refreshing. Highly recommend
A few hours ago a friend told me many good things about this whisky. And now, after watching this video, I'm going to buy one bottle for sure.
Thank you Horst, i bought a bottle of this today, and aim looking forward to tasting this. Greetings shane, on the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England. Enjoy your channel and expertise.
Just been bought a bottle of this! Really enjoyed the experience, thanks for walking us through it as always :)
Me too, Very pleasant 🥃
Just to say Penderyn is a Welsh word, not Gallic, wrong celts 😉 good review!
Excellent review, but I'm Welsh so a little biased 😉 have many Penderyn bottles in my collection as does my drinking partner Mr Leworthy and we regularly visit the distillery to purchase and take a tour which we highly recommend if you ever visit Wales. Whilst the maderia is the classic Penderyn they have many other within their range with the icons Rhiannon being very nice indeed 👍
It is a brilliant tour, I took my fiancee while my parents were out for the weekend, and as I couldn't drive at the time (especially after the tasting session) it was a connection of 4 busses down from brecon and about a 5 mile walk in the rain, followed by camping out in the rain in a field under the stars (clouds) and then the same adventure on the way back up, a proper weekend, and well worth the effort
Don’t worry about being biased, I’m from Scotland and it’s my favourite whisky overall. It’s just a great whisky! I’m no aficionado, but I’ve drunk dozens of whiskies and I just love this!
I'm biased being Welsh and having spent time at the distillery but I will say this is a great, light whisky, sweet with fruit, marzipan, butter and cake, only hampered by a slightly bitter finish that can build if you indulge too much. But a nice double of this dram is a real hit and representative of what these guys do.
For a £40 no age statement whisky whisky its great. Would highly recommend doing their ‘master class’ tour at the distillery if you’re ever in the neighbourhood.
Just got it to Finland (55€)
I tried this Penderyn a few days ago and I found it interesting and powerful. Definitely one to try. Slainte!
Been waiting for this one! Not too far from me this distillery, the only whisky distiller in Wales!
Not no more , there's another now plus one more waiting to release its first bottle.🤚
Madeira is Portugal, pal
A great review of a wonderful whisky. No moaning about the box and bottle like some other reviewers. I love this stuff, one of my favourites, even though I’m Scotland based.
I wish Penderyn would do one age statement, just to put it to bed ;-)
However last year in York found a cask strength produced for Whisky shop at 63.1% from cask to bottle 6 yrs old and very nice.
However love the Grand Slam editions, out of the core range this is my first pick :-)
Was that the Faraday still in the background ?
Just got myself a bottle. Still prefer more peaty whiskys but this one is a gem indeed. Very heavy toffee notes
I quite enjoyed Myth and Legend, which were both also Madeira finished. Just this and Celt left to go, and I'm expecting great things.
Loved this but found their Sherrywood to be more complex and quite extraordinary (in a good way)
By the way, it means 'wood' in case you didn't know. Thus 'Vinho da Madeira' is a Portuguese spirit as Port as well.
I can't believe he just sang a line from the old song " have some mardeira my dear ", 😂
I have only had the Myth Single Malt. I don't think I will be going back to the Pendyrin after that average experience!
This one's better than Myth.
Myth is in my opinion the weakest Penderyn whiskey in terms of taste
Average is compliment.
@@hoptech674 the 3 which are available in the supermarkets, Myth, Celt, Legend are from casks which are on the 3rd or 4th run of the Mash so won't have the same finish as the likes of the more expensive bottles. I.e. it's the bottom end of their line.
This one being reviewed is always from the first run, using a 92% spirit.
A very enjoyable whisky this one, and at £27 UKP an absolute steal 🥃🥃
We can pick this up for around £27 in the u.k. which is an absolute steal.
Great review. We'd love to see a review of the Penderyn portwood too!
I always see a fancy bottle as a sign that the distiller is clueless.
