      @@SaaharaGlaude As I said I'm glad you discovered him. You just assume if somone is listening to a "rare encore" recording. of a famous opera tenor, they had some knowledge of opera, or that kind of singing. My main reaction was you're saying it was lost from generation to generation-which in the world of opera and tenors was never the case. You may call it snobbery, elitism, I call it a hierarchy of values-so I guess I'm unwoke-but of course I heard of a couple of the singers you mentioned, but never Adele etc. and that doesn't bother me at all

      @@labienus9968 It goes totally & completely without saying that Opera aficionados know him in & out. What you're not recognizing is that not all Opera lovers are aficionados! From generation to generation is all inclusive: i.e., everyone -- not just Opera proficients. There are countless people who know the name Kanyé West & not a lick of his music! Adele?? She has so many Grammy's, Brit Awards, MTV Awards, an OSCAR, Billboard Awards, Juno Int'l Awards, Critic Choice Awards, Danish Music Awards +++++!!! Too many to name identify! AND!! She's alive! She's a contemporary & had she been trained, would have excelled in Opera! But, she's lost to you? Hence, I never heard Franco Corelli's voice - but, had at least heard of him.
      Just read an article about one of the wealthiest men on the planet who bought his daughter-in-law 'the' most expensive piece of jewelry ever. I read. All the time. Global - usa national -- and I never heard of this man or his family! I'm 65+ & have great cultural exposure but, know not this family. I was blown away but the quality of their voices I've never heard anything like it and never will again. In the late 70s I saw Cotrubas and Traviata she was incredible. I saw leontyne price twice in concert I thought I had been transported that beautiful Primal voice. I really never liked Tebaldi or Scotto. Pavarotti was overrated he was not Corelli not even close. Domingo struggle with the high C. carreras ruined is voice singing Beyond his capabilities that Beautiful lyric tenor. The Golden Age of Opera is gone there are no more great singers from the past. But we have the CDs the DVDs and the vinyls recordings. caballe was the last great primadonna she could sing Everything. Too bad she didn't retire when she was supposed to. Corelli was not Pavarotti. Corelli was a spinto heroic tenor. His voice has nothing to do with Pavarotti's voice, not even close. Domingo never had a high C,

I believe they were among the greatest tenor's ever, but don't you think you're covering a very broad spectrum of repertoire & tenor voice for both tenors? I always find it curious why a fan of any singer has to make such statements. I think Bjorling was great in Boheme, Rigoletto, Ballo, and Faust. He did quite well in some other roles except for the heavier one's. Corelli's great heroic voice was not so fitting for Werther, Lucia, Don Carlo & even Boheme. I was so fortunate (perhaps actually blessed) at having seen the god, Franco Corelli 6 times as Calaf at the Met during the 1960s. They really should have retired the role after he retired, because while tenors such as Bonisolli, Martinucci & Cecchele did overall fine jobs, none could come even close to FC's perfection, least of all Domingo!

    Era un qualcosa di incredibile. Si sentono nella voce come degli archi su cui gli armonici cavalcano e si amplificano nella volta del teatro e la parola in prima fila, sempre davanti al suono. Dire eccellente sarebbe niente. Dire ADDIO BEL PASSATO è solo verità.

      Altro che Pavarotti. Qui Pavarotti e' morto e sepolto senza via di scampo. Oltretutto nemmeno la poteva cantare perché non era adatta alle sue corde e mai lo è stata.

    Corelli technique was self taught because of the way he trained his larynx he could generate power for every phrase and every note in whatever opera you hear him in you will get the most balance vocal sound of any tenor on earth and you won't her wavering volume .

    Truly a spectacular live performance.Corelli's encores were rare.Some critics speak of his scooping mannerisms. Very few tenors were more exciting and thrilling.

    • @hafizullahsufi
      @hafizullahsufi 3 роки тому +2

      the "scoop" is technically called a "portamento" and he did it to keep his throat open for the sometimes-unearthly length of time he held some high notes.

    • @sugarbist
      @sugarbist 3 роки тому +4

      @@hafizullahsufi Corelli used portamento where it wasn't written. In an interview here on You Tube with Stefan Zucker, Stefan asked Corelli based on a callers question" Why did you use so much portamento"? Corelli's answer was "To be sure." A scoop is when a singer uses portamento up to the note before the high note and then hits the high note as indicated in the interpolated Poluto aria, where Corell hits a high C in " Io solo a Dio Lo Rendero" But scoop or no scoop, Corelli's voice was thrilling and he had the ability to mesmerize his audiences

      @hafizullahsufi 3 роки тому +1

      @@sugarbist What musician doesn't use something that's not written? In fact, rubato seems to have been used a lot more in earlier musical eras, and one can hear some rather daring rubato in the very old recordings of, say, Schumann-Heink and the tail-end inheritors of the bel-canto tradition.
      Yes, sometimes Corelli's scooping is a little unmusical. Bjørling had much greater suavity and he hit high notes like they owed him money. I'll even take del Monaco's relentless forte over the scores of present-day tenors who yell the notes more than sing them.

    • @sugarbist
      @sugarbist 3 роки тому +3

      @@hafizullahsufi Most tenor's have taken liberties with the music in live performances, where the pulsation is different, and a singers temperament influences his interpretation, but they have also suffered from the writing's of critics for doing so. MDM comes to mind where he and Corelli adhered mostly to the musical score and markings on studio recordings. However, their live performances were electrifying aside from the fact they were criticized for putting on their own shows., Thank God. Bjorling, who was an impeccable singer, adhered to the music more so than the aforementioned 2 tenors in both live and studio recordings. But in my opinion, Bjorling was cold on records but showed more emotion in his live. I don't think the public cares as critics do about specifically adhering to the score or musical markings, but not forgetting that the score is the intention of what the composer wanted.

    This is so lovely to hear, thanks for posting. I adore Franco Corelli, I wish I'd seen him live, alas. I'm listening to this aria by many singers tonight, I am a singer myself. There are so many stunningly beautiful performances of this here, and each of these great tenors has his own personality, his strengths. But Corelli has more heart than all of them, he rushes, he enunciates, he slows, this is mastery of a different kind from impeccable technique, which he also has. Glorious, and I thank you again. I love to hear the audience give him the adulation he so deserves, then to hear him come back and give them MORE.
