You can check the year of the Amazon from the ID plate but I read it as early model year 1962 with the B18. The nice dash extensions on the doors were carried over from the B16 cars but I think they just used them until they ran out of them. Sensible move. I don't know how many '62 cars had them but I think they changed to the no extension dash before the '63 models came along. Cars with the flat upholstery before the big changes with the face lift in '65 also had the much nicer door handles and winders. They can be swapped in to later cars but good ones hard to find. The ones here are very bubbly which is typical. The trunk lid is interchangeable as long as you use it with the dead eagle handle. The holes are different for the later less fancy handle. A'59 would have opening quarter lights on the rear doors. I had a 1961 B16 car which had those. The glass may also be dated.
It just astounds me that so many cars in the Deep South rust out like that after sitting. They don’t get the salt that the northern states have and yet they rust themselves to pieces because of the relative humidity and amount of rain they get.
I look at these 1-series cars and realize how much luck was involved in getting one that is not this dead. Also a generational curse on whoever painted over that gorgeous orange.
So far as I've ever seen Volvo did not offer factory vinyl roofs on any 140 series, I have seen them put on them though. Dunno if the two I've witnessed were dealer to custom shop applied. That thing looks mighty rough to try and bring back and that's coming from a guy who has a less than perfect 1970 142S. I'd say grab the parts you need and let it slowly return to the earth.
I am inclined to thinking this is an early 60s Amazon. The grill isn't the same shape as my 58, and it should have a 6 volt B16 engine, not B18. Various other details does not resemble what I have in my 58. I wonder what a past owner was thinking when installing a rubber hose on the brake master cylinder? As for which car to save, the 240 perhaps? They all are too far gone for my taste, but experience tells me the safest bet is a car with a good body. Other repairs are finite in comparison to body work.
That's the way I see it. Metal fab can eat up a LOT of time. Last ditch effort brake repair? I wouldn't do the rubbers there but they have rubber on the caliper end...
Nice video dude it would have been ace to see all those Volvos. It’s such a shame that the 122 is so bad it’s a early car that it shares a lot of features of my 64 121. I also love that 240 coffin nose proper cool car
Nice video !!! I hope paradise looks like that kind of place... The first ''square body'' Volvo is a 142E (CI fuel injected) transformed to a carburetted model... I would say those were not Volvo's greatest cars... The second one, the 1958 Amazon 122 model is in my opinion still saveable but will need a huge investment of $$$ and work. I think the 1965 and later (particulary the 1967 and later) 122S Amazon models are alot more interresting to restore than the early (pre 1965) ones... The 244GL looks in relatively good condition even though these are not realy desireable models...
I am not sure what I would pay, but I know there are good parts for a 59 like my car. Seat Frames would be worth saving alone. someone swapped that engine out at one time for sure if it is a 59.
7:30…I paid $200 for a ‘66 automatic and another $215 to get it towed to my house. It was in MUCH better condition except the front floor and frame rails are completely rotted. I don’t see much of value on that poor 122.
All those Volvos would be a lot of work to restore. Like your manager says "You have enough shit boxes at home". Polish one of those and get a really nice car. In Australia we don't get yards full of wrecks like you seem to do in USA.
Have you done a video on what got you into old Volvos? I’m just curious. For me my mom hauled me around in the hatch of a 740 when I was a kid, and the V70 I sorta daily now was her last car.
That's a great idea! I have not yet done a video like that. Maybe it's time? There's a few different videos that I've got on the shelf. I have some free time coming up and will make a video about it.
It's a shame that orange 142 is in such horrible shape. Would have been a great 70's color originally. Very little value on the Amazon. As others may have said, likely early 60's not a 59. Again, very little value on it. Maybe a few parts. I've heard the chrome door tops are worth grabbing as they are out of production. If it were a 59, I believe it would of had the cool rear vent windows on the rear doors that work like the front one's but in reverse.
I would have loved to snag that 140 and save it. I wish the 122 had the cool vent windows. I think the collective knowledge has decided its a 62 as it was the first year for b18

Correct, a 1962 model it is. The last year with dash pad extensions and the first year with B18.
Seems like you are right on the money!
Only vinyl top I've seen on an OE Volvo was on a 242 Bertone.
There are a few pictures on the web with vinyl tops, 142s that is. Really odd looking.
The 244 is an '84 with a B23 🥰
I concur. 1984. Worth saving? If it’s free, then yes.
They're all worth saving! But this one looks like a ton of work. I currently daily drive a B21FT.
@@ShawnTheGreek Many of the cars here are being sold as parts for scrap value. Almost everything can be had!
@@broward123 That sounds like an excellent daily driver

The Volvo 122 is a 1962 model. And the blue car is a German Opel Ascona Voyage circa 1975, that's even rarer than the Volvos! 😁
I think there's two in that lot. You'll have to see next week's video to see all the other Opels this fella has stashed.
Saw you at c&o and i love the volvo with the license plate floors

It's terrible to see and awesome color such as ORANGE painted over. Breaks my heart.

I may pick the whole thing up for exprimental purposes. Its got some parts I could use

I guess i could use the Bumperettes if they are all good, I have mismatched ones on my 59
You'd have to buy the whole car unfortunately.

I seriously considered buying the 122 just to save the parts. I really don't need it though and we dragged home something else today :)

Im not sure i would call it heaven. I prefer the 66 and later volvos myself.
Im sceptic, a few parts around but would you really? Keep looking Dean, there must be better ones lurking somewhere else.
There's a lot of potential kicking around this yard. At least it'd be content!
Yep! It was a content riddled yard for sure.

Didn't Bertone do the lowered vinyl roofs on the 2 door Volvos?
They did that on the Bertone 242 (260?) I'm not that familiar with them but that's the lowered roof car you are thinking of.
Would you save any of these cars from their earthy graves?
The 142 is a #73 😎👍

Dean how much would they want for the rear bumper on the ground of that 122
He's trying to sell things complete as much as possible. He's trying to clear the yard.
Where are they located
