Man third Gen owners are definitely a type. Got the stanced wheels, tow mirrors ALWAYS out, light bars, black everything. Be interested to see what you do with it. Damn seems crazy cheap to me ! Especially if it doesn't leak or seem to have issues. The interior even looks nice. I thought it was going to have a shit load of issues with all those hot boy upgrades. Usually when they look like that it is all appearance and zero maintenance.

I have a 2005 Cummings 4x4 Quad Cab. 124,000 Miles on it. Just got my Banks Big Hoss Bundle put on about 3 weeks ago. I have the Carli Dominator 3” Lift. 295/70R 18 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Banks Tune. 505 HP 1025 Lbs Ft Torque. Had the whole truck Raptor Lined in grey. Full 4” exhaust. 28 MPG HWY 24 MPG city. I think I get that fuel economy because I leave my tow mirrors in.

I stumbled upon my 3rd gen at a yard sale. Similar, 4x4, but It's an 06 and a 7ft bed with the lariat package. It had 247k on it when I got it. I got it for 4k, deals are out there.

Just came across your channel. Great buy! I've had my 03 Cummins just like yours but with a 6 speed for 8 years. Bought it with 250k and now it has 302k miles and runs great! Been in the south its whole life. I'm in Tennessee. Bought mine in 2016 for $9900....FROM A DEALER! and buy a flow pro muffler, it looks like a corkscrew inside the muffler..It flows good, sounds great and doesnt drone!

Great buy damn good truck and motor I have had two 12 valve Dodge duallys and love them ! I strongly suggest looking into a FASS fuel system the 24 valves are a high pressure fuel system who's injection pump is cooled by the fuel and is very particular [as in the will take a crap if trash or pressure loss is encountered] the automatics are another weak link [both of my past trucks were automatics and I had no issues] good luck with that excellent purchase looking forward to your next video !!
You have the best auto trans produced with cummins pick ups, the 48re, stronger than the older autos, electronically more simple than the new autos. I recommend a Shift Kit if you plan to do anything with the transmission 👍.
And yes, straight through resonators reduce a LOT of noise.
2003-2004 has different injectors than the 2004.5-2007, among many changes in 2004.5.
If you plan to own the truck for a long time i definitely recommend an upgraded fuel system like FASS or AIRDOG.

Nice find. I have a 2007 3500 Dually which was the last production year for the 5.9 pre-DEF power option. The best advice I would give you is test those injectors immediately, before you ask, yes it costs about $12K to find out the hard way, and that's if you do the work yourself. I've also dealt with two of the other common issues with 3rd gens, TIPM issues, and HVAC mode doors. Now I finally have everything operating as it should and it's a great truck. Considering what new ones go for, even with a new motor, I'm money ahead.

The deal you made was great. The 03 to 06 5.9 was a great engine. Tyler from Hoovies garage hit one million miles in his 04 ram 2500 . Love the dodge.

Later year common rails were a better engine. But hoovie didn’t put those miles on himself, in a hotshot platform almost every diesel can do it because they’re all highway miles under a good load and insanely good maintenance typically. That’s why most buy Texas diesels, all highways, mostly towing.
Please do like peg and jerk that power plant out of that dodge shipping crate and do a repower on the F350.
That would definitely be somethin! I've definitely considered dropping a cummins in the f350 if the 6.9 ever dies!
To get rid of some drone (not all), but much less restrictive compared with a muffler is a resonator pipe, or upgrade to make bigger if it has one.
Retain efficiency but reduce some of the drone noise.

Definitly a good deal! I'm looking for a 07 to 09 with 6.7 myself but everyone that owns one thinks theyre worth 3/4 of what it was new with 200,000 miles on it!

All ive owned is dodge trucks. Ive had a few 3rd gen cummins. They have issues but overall decent trucks. I beg you to put the stock wheels back on with beefy tires and take those damn fender flares off. Lol ok ok its a cool truck. Look forward to seeing more videos. Dont forget to show us the ol idi time to time! 👍
First time I fired up the old bull after buying this truck, she left me on the side of the road. Showing me she doesn't approve of the new purchase. haha! Needless to say we're going to have a repair video on it soon!
Does it have blow by? Early common rails had this issue. I'm so glad you got rid of that exhaust tip. Like you, I've never understood. Put a muffler on it, like you, I'm getting old, obnoxious exhaust wears on you on a long road trip. Looking forward to the project videos. I grew up GM, had a DMax, have had 4 Cummins since. I won't own another diesel in a light-duty truck for all the reasons you mentioned.

Check the serial number on you engine Block, Blocks with "53" in them were prone to cracking.You can google "cummins engine block 53 issues". I believe 2002 was the last year they had that issue.
Won't be an issue on a 3rd gen.

I have an 06 5.9 single cab 4x4 6 speed. The 215 P Pump 12 valve is still by far my favorite. I'm not a big fan of electronic anything, and the price of repairs don't even begin to compare between the 12v and the common rail

Cool rig! My only thing for diesel pickups bow is No auto transmissions. Loved my 12valve buy hated the auto. I like the 7.3 in mu van but the auto is lame. I just prefer the way a diesel drives when backed by a manual.
Nice truck. After having all 3 , cummins is my favorite engine, ford might have the best build quality, but i like working on my diesel squarebody the most.
I'm a sucker for a manual, but I just can't do it for a daily driver. Gotta love a squarebody!
I put a jones turbine muffler on my old one and it got rid of the drone and the sound was pretty great
Also, I don’t know how true it is but I’ve heard the closer you put the muffler to the engine the less drone. I put mine in place of the cat. Looked like a cat so that helped with inspection

These CR trucks are super sensitive to fuel contaminants the micron rating on stock fuel filters aren’t good enough. It’s totally worth getting a CAT fuel filter kit. Filters are cheap too

Its crazy to me the difference in value for trucks across the country. Out west trucks regularly are worth 5k-10k more than the ones out east. I dont know why but that truck here in idaho would be a 14-15k truck.

Is it rotted out under the fender flares? I hate when people put those on because the fenders rust immediately. I’d maybe consider a FASS to replace that lift pump and put a fuel pressure gauge in the truck so you know you always have enough fuel going to the CP3. Other than that, GREAT purchase. I wish I could find deals like that 😂

I love my 04 dodge ram 1500 she is a beast two trees fell on her back in January and she has a damaged windshield and hood but she’s still ticking unfortunately it is a total loss but I have no choice to use it still and she’s doing good as we speak engine wise but visually she is beat up now just saying

You got a heck of a deal.... however.... you will end up sinking a descent about of money into it. I had the exact same truck and they are extremely troublesome outside of the engine. Transmission being at the top of the list.
Counting my days with the transmission, for sure. Ripping out and rebuilding will make a good project for the channel 👍
@NockRanch my hvac vents would only blow thru defrost. My steering column was shook with bumps, my back window leaked, Trans went out when I sold it on test drive, I still got like $17k this was about 10 years ago. That truck you have is worth probably $15k. Should make for good content wrenching on it if that's the direction you want to take your channel.

2005.5 to early 07 5.9 CR cummins 3rd gen trucks are thee better then the early 3rd gen 5.9 better interior qaulity and everything thery had all the quirks frigured out by then
Listen I love me a third gen just as much as the next guy, but for me the second gen is superior purely for the non common rail.

The RAM truck with an Automatic Trans, is “NOT” a reliable truck.
New trans every 75-100k miles, unless you use it to Tow. Then it’s much more often!!
The manual is definitely the way to go, but I just can't stand daily driving a stick. Save that for the fun stuff! Auto tranny was definitely a concern, but seems to be fine for now 👍
6.7 is prob still the best cummins. These 3rd gens would melt down without warning from sticking injectors. Great motors but they are expensive
6.7 has just as much issues. Only the early 5.9 had injector issues. 6.7 injectors are more expensive. They also have EGR DPF failures. Not to mention the VGT failing. 5.9 it’s a much cheaper platform than the 6.7. Speaking from experience. I sold my 6.7 for a 01 5.9
It’s all about fuel filtration. The micron rating on off the shelf fuel filters don’t actually match Cummins specs. Cat filter kit is the way to go
@@Ryskyguy 01 is not a 3rd gen. I’ve had all 3. The 03-07 common rails all had injector issues. Regardless of filters. The tolerances on the injectors are just too tight. That’s why rebuilds are so sketchy. If you cant rebuild a turbo then you shouldnt own a diesel. Yea the dpf failures are stupid plus the regens getting stuck etc etc. all of which can be tuned and deleted. I’m talking pure motor to motor
You have just become a Mopar and Cummins fan. Whether you admit it or not. 😂 Cummins diesels are Bullet proof, only comparable was the Ford 7.3 power stroke from the days of yore.
