+Dan Rhomberg Nice to know you are growing so many vegetables in Fountain Valley! We are neighbors as I am in Irvine :) Nice to know the videos helped you!
I haven't grown this variety, but I have grown cone head cabbage. I used a large container and the head was on the smaller side as you mentioned. However, I was pleased with the results. I had no insect or disease issues and the flavor was very nice. It's much less pungent than a white cabbage. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and harvest with us. :)
I love purple cabagge in salads! Will probably try it next season. Very well done video. I like to see the whole process in just one video. Congratulations!
+naturallifestyleshow Thank you! Nice to know this video inspired you. I too love to add purple cabbage in my salad! I think I will try and add a salad recipe for one that I eat almost everyday! Happy growing and wish you good health!
I always love watching your videos. You are so knowledgeable. I am very surprised the leaves are not eaten. We have so many bugs in VA. What zone are you in? Cheers! Louise zone 7 To plant a garden is to believe in the future
What is or causes the white hazy look on the outer leaves? when you touch or wipe the outer leaves, the haziness is gone. Is this normal? Thanks in advance.
Hello, very helpful video. How do you avoid white flies, they're all over my belly peppers and broccoli leaves and I am afraid to transfer purple cabbage near them in my elevated garden beds. Appreciate your reply.
plant your choice of garlic, onion, leek, chive (or any other Allium genus plants, even ornamentals will do) in pots which you then place around the peppers, broccoli, and cabbages these Allium plants produce a volatile oil, called Allicin, which is toxic to whiteflies and repels their adults for sessile whitefly larvae (they look like small green, white, or translucent ovals) which have settled on the peppers and brassicas, you make a solution of crushed garlic clove in water, and apply the water to the bottoms of the leaves or wherever else you see the larvae. direct application of the Allicin kills them
I'm trying to follow the timeline. The seeds were started indoors, or in a greenhouse, sometime in November or December? Then plants were moved into the final growing container around February? And the harvest was in May or June? I'm guessing you also grew this in Southern California?
+Patrick Meehan Thanks! I usually add it chopped raw in my salads and for cooking we chop, add turmeric powder, salt, chilly powder and oil and cover it it till cooked.
Hi thanks for those helpful video, I planned cabbage for the first time, but my cabbage has lots of flowers, and it’s grown very tall, I don’t see any sine of head cabbage growing! It’s normal? Please help me! Thanks 🙏🏼
+Mumbai Balcony Gardener | Avid Life Observer There are smaller varieties of cabbage you could try. With all those gorgeous worm castings you have I am sure your green veggies will love it. :)

+Louise B Thank you! The net technique helped keep a lot of bugs away. The snails and slugs do get to them but I just let them eat a bit :)

Hopefully I will get some cabbage heads soon.
HI! Did you have any problems with the cabbage worms?
Can I eat the bigger outer leaves of red cabbage?
how to write Brassica oleracea var. capitata f rubra? do you also underline var. and f.? thank you 🙂
Can you transplant directly into your garden?
What is or causes the white hazy look on the outer leaves? when you touch or wipe the outer leaves, the haziness is gone. Is this normal? Thanks in advance.
The cabbage is so beautiful I feel bad harvesting it.

A beautiful red Cabbage there. Do you just boil and eat as a side veg with salt and pepper . Or another way? Thanks for sharing
+Patrick Meehan Thanks! I usually add it chopped raw in my salads and for cooking we chop, add turmeric powder, salt, chilly powder and oil and cover it it till cooked.
how often do you water the cabbage?
+Nat S Depends on how how it is. In hot summers I usually water 1-2 days a week. In winter, usually 2-3 times a week.
Ok thank you for you advice

I hear ya! You do an amazing job with the space you do have.
+Mumbai Balcony Gardener | Avid Life Observer You can still grow it in small containers. You will get smaller heads but just as healthy and delicious!

+Body Abdo Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Dumb question: are the outside leaves edible? Thanks for the videos, always good info!
Yes, i am growing green cabbage on my balcony, and am eating the Outer leaves, as it grows.
Thank you!
+Gd Snuff Yes they are!
You can include all the leaves if you make Cole Slaw. The greener it is the more nutritious and tasty.
i have one growing but seems harder to grow then all my other vegeies
It's not hard, prep your soil with cow manure, worm castings and plant!
How to know that a cabbage is ready for harvest?
