In the time Singapore built 3 subway lines, India extended its subway network to 20 cities and China gave us so many transit options that in HongKong without a smartphone its tough to figure out how to go from HK to mainland, liberal leftist l00ter of Canada has managed to spend more money than some of those cities on a white elephant called eglington which is still not up and has destroyed thousands of businesses, created tonnes of pollution and wasted billions just in digging and filling up. When Indian engineers get the alignment right across Himalayan kashmir tunnels on a fraction of the budget in their first attempt, horrific socialists of Canada cannot even align a tunnel on queen street with all the maps & money at their disposal (Canada has the highest subway ticket rates in the world). 3:03 Steeles Avenue isn't actually the border between Toronto and Richmond Hill, but rather the border between Toronto, Vaughan, and Markham with Vaughan and Markham between divided by Yonge Street. Richmond Hill only starts at Highway 407 and Yonge. It would have been interesting alternate history if all of the district of Thornhill belonged to Richmond Hill rather than between split between Vaughan and Markham, but I guess the then towns of Vaughan and Markham wanted access to Yonge Street.

As someone who grew up in the Langstaff area of Richmond Hill, it always puzzled me why Richmond Hill didn't absorb Thornhill. Geographically speaking, you've got these communities that run up and down Yonge Street in a linear fashion, but here's Markham and Vaughan jutting out right at the bottom of the region.

Great video! I hope the Cummer station gets built since it will be more expensive to build it later (plus the area looks like it's densifying). Plus I prefer subway stops be within city limits, which only Steeles is (and that's only 50%). If this is built, it must be after the Ontario Line so Line 1 isn't overwhelmed by congestion.

Very interesting! Personally I don't consider a 2km gap to be unreasonable at all in a suburban setting since the line needs to cover a lot of distance and frequent stops slows things down. Plus, stations are the most expensive part of a system. The distance of 2km is the same as with several other spots such as between Eglinton to Lawrence, Lawrence to York Mills, or York Mills to Sheppard, yet the extension is ever further out than those places. So I think it's fine.

Though I was curious on this idea, so it’s not going to Hillcrest because VIVA BRT can cover that, but a possible even northern extension to Major Mckenzie/Wonderland/Cortelucci Hospital is possible? Seems like it would go do a two stop extension from VMC to Vaughan Mills then Major Mack.
Though it being on Jane, maybe they can resurrect the Jane LRT that will be ending at Pioneer Village to become a light metro (maybe Western Ontario Line?) and run parallel or interline north to Vaughan.

I’m not trying to be a meaner here and I mean it’s great that the place is finally getting some transit, but honestly, all it really needed to do was just build a denser city like New York. That alone could have saved us from all the trouble that we have today. Lol
Like the fact that a city that only has 5-7 million inhabitants(GTA) could get such a horrible traffic(even worse than New York metropolitan area which is easily triple or quadruple the population) proves that how badly they designed the city.

I'd actually be surprised if it doesn't happen at some point in the future. Metrolinx time and time again have ruled that converting much of the Richmond Hill Line to an RER line wouldn't be feasible, so I imagine existing Line 1 to at least Elgin Mills would be a decent alternative.

The narrator of the video, just in the 1st minute of it, addresses the eastern part of Line 1 having long ended at Finch Station. There was a time when Finch had been the northernmost station of all TTC subway and Scarborough RT ones. For years before stations in western North York and York Region had opened, the TTC's Montreal counterpart had extended service to nearby suburbs, with the respective openings of Longueuil-Sherbrooke University and Montmorency stations in Longueuil (east) and Laval (northwest) having occurred in the 1960s and 2007.

Cool but after the extension is completed there will more added traffic by the train reaches Finch and Sheppard. There should be another North & South line located in the West end, for example, Kipling or Highway 27, to drive traffic downwards towards Finch Line 6, Eglington and Bloor line. An extension on Yonge is needed but it seems very "classy" as those with higher pay salaries will mostly get seats on rides for longer durations, Union or Bay to north of Finch.

Toronto has grown so fast and so big and yet City Planners and Politicians at all levels of the government fail to equip the City to excel. It took the City years of negotiations to get the crosstown subway to start building but then all sorts of mismanagement leading to cost and schedule over the budget. While bike lanes are absolutely important for the safety of the cyclists City needs to understand before you take away the road space, which is already limited to begin with, for bike lanes, you need to have provisions such as more subway lines to ease (or take away) the vehicles congestion first. The planning, if any, seems to be fragmented and not fully integrated and run by various departments that each only concerns with its own mandate and not the City as a whole.

We dont need more money for the l00ter. We need refuge from socialist l00ter.

I hate it when subways have too many stops too close together. They could/should cut 2 stations

I hope this never gets built. The focus needs to be on subways *within* our City of Toronto. Not extending an already overloaded line. Getting on Saturdays at Wellesley station and the trains are already packed.

Integrating the GTA into the subway is crucial. This project should definitely be built and not doing so would be foolish. Every single line on the TTC either has planned or under construction extensions, along with 3 new lines being built within the city of Toronto proper. Suburban extensions of the subway relieve vehicle traffic from Toronto and make the city more transit oriented and livable.

@@maxtamir5029 integrating the GTA is not crucial at all. We have too many high density neighbourhoods in Toronto with no access to rapid transit. GO train exists to connect to suburbs.

The Ontario Line will be built before this to offer relief. And, before the Ontario Line is completed we could get started on Ontario Line North that would offer another North/South route. Also, Go Expansion will offer a lot of capacity too.
