Eventually, the tubing inside the peristaltic pump will flatten and no longer pump. I don't know how long it will take your pump to do this, probably quite a while, but you may want to change out the tubing inside the pump at a regular interval to prevent a failure. It will probably fail when no one is around, which is exactly when things like that happen ha ha. Ingenious solution to a problem there. I really like it! I have been doing laboratory work for about 30 years and really only deal with peristaltic pumps on Atomic Absorption or ICP units for metals analysis. They work great, until they don't, then it is almost always an easy fix by replacing the tubing that is being rolled inside the pump. Great video as usual.
Will replace when it comes time
Another great risk for him to consider regarding the inner tubing is that it can and does break. Even tougher platinum-cured tubing which is specifically made for repeated abuse in high-volume, high-pressure situations. When that does happen, depending on where you place your pump, you're going to have a siphon situation on your hands. We always made sure to place our pumps above our drums of solution especially if we had to step away during a multi-hour filtration. It looks like his is above his tanks which is a good precaution. We would break through tubing at least once a week, but we were also pushing heavy pressure against cartridge filters and autoclaving the tubing.
Pretty soon you're just going to be raising stuff by the thousands! Way to go congratulations
Thank youuuu
I'm really glad to have found your channel! I've put off trying to breed anything (other than guppies 😂) mainly because it's just seemed convoluted and, in some cases, difficult and time consuming. You break it down and show your progress and what you've learned along the way and it's very inspiring. I shared your neon tetra hatching video with a friend because he really wanted to try neons as well and was, sadly, discouraged when I told him how much darkness it requires.
Great invention Nick! I can’t wait to see as you inspire others to use this method too! Keep it up man! 👍
IMO a smart plug is a much better option than the timer. You could set it up for 5 or 10 minutes instead of 30. Idk in Australia, but here they cost about 10 euros. Totally worthy. Edit: I just thought that maybe you don´t have internet inside the fish room and that´s the reason you use classic timers.
That’s exactly why lol
@@KeepingFishSimple you can probably stream wifi from a smart phone to your phone & smart plug to set up the app. it doesn't need WiFi to continue running.
@@KeepingFishSimple smart plugs would work without an internet connection so long as you have a cheap router to connect to. Just make sure you don’t have to connect to Amazon for setup or anything like that.
This would probably work for 24 daily feeding at only a few seconds each
its so satisfying to watch those fry's hatch and grow .. its like bein there .. good job buddy - amazing to see the new feeding system that would give you a break from stressing out from shuttling between the fish room and home.. almost 100k subs .. yay 🙂
Thank you!!
This is a very creative way to solve this problem, well done.
I also adore seeing dosing pumps proliferate through the freshwater side of the hobby, simply because of how useful they can be. I personally use several EcoTech Versa's to facilitate my own auto-water change regime on a much smaller set up. Since then, I've come to love peristaltic pumps.
Such a good idea!! I want to get into breeding these guys myself but the regular feedings was the bit I felt I'd never be able to achieve.
Keep up the awesome videos and ideas!
AWESOME!! I love diy things. Especially when they are fish related. Keep it up Nick😁
In my mind, you could do three separate food source and pump systems, starting with small bites, medium bites, and BBS. This will allow for multiple fry tanks at different growth stages. Before entering the transfer pump portion, the food source's upstream portion could also be set up to blend the foods with additional pumps and Y-splitters, i.e., medium bites with egg yolk and vinegar eels. The downstream side of transfer lines could include Y-splitters for adjusting feed to various stages of fry. Unless you can use variable pumps, I would make sure the flow rate is equal b/n the upstream and the downstream.
As previously mentioned, definitely get the digital wireless plugs, very cheap, that you can program and run with your phone for more control. A few of Dean's fish room tours show the use of these digital devices, also sold by Aquarium Co-op.
Need wifi at the fish room though
Great ideas however!!
If you plan on expanding this system you should check out the tplink hs100, and the tlink 8 outlet smart switch. Completely unlimited programming.
Your videos are always so engaging! Always a great mix of entertaining and educating. Keep up the good work, all the best with the rams
Thank you so much
Absolutely love all your videos I’m a koi breeder but I do have a few tanks I love all the ingenious breeding ideas you have I have a lot of friends into aquarium fish I recommend your videos to all of them
Thank you so much
What an amazing journey that you have taken from a small bedroom years ago to this great channel that so many in the hobby subscribe to. Two thumbs up my friend.
You can get a multi head dosing pump that’s mainly used in salt water setups to feed multiple fry set ups.
As usual you are teaching us so much. I wish I was closer so I could get some of your fish. I would even clean the fish room (lol). ❤️it all.
You do a great job and you are really dedicated to the hobby and this is a great invention 👍
Thanks so much
Great video, so much useful information! Please, keep them coming.
Thank you!!
Yes well done, dosing pumps really common in reef tanks. You can get wifi/bluetooth ones and control them from anywhere.
Nice idea. Glad you found a solution to the problem. Very creative. Well done.
Thanks!!
You can get digital timers mate so you can have more control over the on/off periods.
Ah right, you caught that haha..
Your finest video yet in my opinion; the idea, content, delivery and crafting of the actual video. 👍
Thank you so much
This seems so much cheaper then paying for automatic feeders, they slugged me quite a bit of money, will definitely use this mate :)
Thanks so much
I've done something similar with a device called a short-cycle timer. It can be set to run on very small intervals. It has two knobs- one for how long (in seconds) the pump/feeder runs, and another for how long in between shots (in minutes). For example, on for 5 seconds every 20 minutes, on for 30 seconds every 40 minutes, or whatever. It also has a photo cell so that it can be set to run it's program all day, or only operates when the room lights are on. I think it was only $25. Very handy.
u r doing a lot of hard work and on top of that sharing with the world how to do it.really like your videos alot.lots of love from India.
Thank you
this is the exact sugestion i made a month ago when you were raising the neons. (#38) although the solution i was gona use has the timer built in. so glad its working for you.
It’s working !
Love you’re video l have been watching since you only had 4 tanks
Thanks bro!!!
Good idea for sure. You could look at a kamoer dosing pump plus a booster that will give you 6 pumps all individually operated by the one control box,
Use to use one for my marine tank supplements.
Great idea!!!
Brilliant 👏 👏 👏 The time this took in filming and editing is highly appreciated! Love your Rams! Keep it up! Wish I could send you TIME....😆 this should save you a lot 💕
Thank you so much
Hey My name is manny Betta fish and I would like to tell you that u are a great person keep what you doing and I learn about of things with you keep the great job 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I could see this working great with rotifer cultures early on, and then later moina.
Way to think out of the box! Awesome idea.... May take a little fine tuning. That's expected with anything new
Digging the Moe-vember :) Great video mate.
Definitely want to see an intricate video on how you set it up could be super helpful for me personally and probably a lot other people
If you plug in two timers in serie with a delay of (example) 15 min you can make the run time smaller
But keep in mind that the second time will stand stil when first is power of. Kind of tricky to set up.
Very nice job! Thanks for the information and exciting show. Cool 😎
Thanks!
Definitely make a video on the setup!!!!
I’m liking this Chanel very much.
It’s different as it informational and you’re very innovative with the methods you use!
I predict your channel is going to go BiG……. :9) well done
Awesome!!!!! Amazing solution for your problem 🤩💓👏🏻
Thanks 😊
How about just setting a bottle of infusoria over the aquarium and setting up a drip to slowly and continuously feed the fry?
Maybe put a valve on the end of outlet pump to slow down the flow of food? Too much food is almost as bad as not enough. Looks like you're doing well 👍
I’m so happy for you!
Thank you bro
Great idea
Thank you
Hey bro
Loved your videos ...
Always learning new things from you...
Thanks for the motivation bro
And bro one request
Can you make a video on how to make vinegar eels??it would be great of you...
Keep uploading
Stay safe stay healthy....
I suggest getting a smart plug. You can schedule it through your phone and they only cost $10 each. Also can be controlled remotely.
There is a bit of a learning curve but I feel like your fish room game will go up BIG TIME if you set up Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi, plug in a Zigbee USB stick, and use cheap Zigbee smart plugs for things like your lights, your dosing pumps, etc. You can have a rule like every 2 hours, run the dosing pump for 5 minutes and then shut it off.
Try leaving a small lamp on somewhere high in your room to simulate moonlight, parents can see each other, and fry don't get lost, used same method to get discus fry to attach to parents
Very ingenious :)
Thanks!
Love it ! ❤😃
Thank you!!
I have had very good success in pulling the clutch and hatching fry out. My downfall is feedings. Have only been feeding frozen BBS and a powdered food. Just ordered some hatcheries so I can feed live BBS. I also had some trouble with my fry bunching up in the corner at the top of the water like you've had happen also.
Try this method
That is really cool.
Thanks Darryl!!
get a smart plug for ur pump so you dont have to worry, and set it up so it runs for how long u want it and turns off also when u want
Thanks
Thanks
Nice moustache :))
If you are living in Stockholm, I would like to give you to try my fry, they are only 0.8-1mm and they are super sensitive and little water wave can trigger them in a shock or die… the parents laid eggs every 8 days … That’s really…insane. I’m still trying how to raise them in a good way.
very cool, way to inspire
Thank you
great idea to solve you problems although personaly if parents are raising their fry i think in the long run let them do it im sure the fry raise by their parents will make better parents themselves if you need a batch for selling on occasionaly you can
Awesome idea! 👍
Thanks!
Love your beard you look like a gentleman from the 1800s☺️☺️
DUDE I've been sketching out something similar for weeks i'm glad you posted this saved me so much time haha
Good luck glad I helped!!
Get some 5 gallon aquariums and set them up outside. I've been raising danio fry outside just with what grows in those tanks. I'm 2 hours north of you in QLD. I'm not feeding at all. Set and just top up. See how it goes.
I'm trying to start breeding GBR's, I also have Master Breeder Dean's fry tray system set up, just waiting for the Rams to drop more eggs, they ate the first spawn of eggs in 48 hours, I love watching your trials and heart breaks of raising fry, as i'm going through some of the same, I'd love to get some of your black rams, but living in Florida, too far away so i'll live through your great videos. Good luck with these fry and also I'd love to see a more detailed video of you new auto fry feeder system. Thanks, possibly some thing to patent??
Have you thought about using a dripper nozzle like they use for plants it screw's on to a 2 litter bottle and hang above aquarium it just a suggestion never tried it keep up the good work
Nice idea.
What food do you put in in the foodreservoir?
Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome!
Thank you so much
You should make green water as well
I'm so stealing this idea to help with feeding my angelfish fry..lol
I was thinking of something gg like this! An automatic daphnia or green water/infusoria drip would help raise fry.
Yes
Hi, why didn't you continue to feed the brine shrimp with the pump? Thanks and continue the good work
Nice job 👍 I like your videos
Thank you
Very smart system - but what to do after infosoria? My angelfish fry denies to eat anything els than BBS or Microworms until they are quite big. (about 5 mm) What do you feed thrue the pump in that stage? Before they accept decapsulated artemia?
Love this and I plan on copying it, could you expand on your use of methylene blue, how much you use etc.?
Just a few drops, good luck!
What do you put in the water for a food? I know you mentioned powder food/repashy. I’m about to do this for Angelfish fry and probably rams in the future. Any recommendations on the food to use?
I recommend getting some of the kasa smart plugs, much nicer to use than those old mechanical timers, you can get them for like 20 bucks at bunnings or jbhifi
Need wifi though
I think you should have a play with Arduino to automate thing's like this the DIY fish community needs a young lad like you to show what can be done with this cheap Tec and a little imagination
Your feeder seems super simple and should work for your needs. But what would you do if you had to leave your first for more than a couple weeks?
I'm going back to my parents' house for the holidays and I'm wondering how I will feed and care for my fish while I'm away.
cool!
Thanks!
good luck buddy
Thanks!!
use a smart switch zigbee or wifi connected.
This is how many reefers dose copepods for their mandarin fish, since many already have a dosing pump to dose elements.
So glad you shaved that thing off lmao. great video
Are you filtering out vinegars when taking out vinegar eels?
I am your New Subscriber from Chennai, India 🇮🇳🇮🇳😁😁😁😎😎
Thanks welcome
omg the mu-stash lol
Hi God bless all of y'all and always know that God and his son Jesus both love all of y'all in Jesus mighty name I pray Amen.
did you ever make a new fry feeder?
Any advise for someone who wants to start a fish room???
Watch out with the egg yolk because it spoils pretty fast releasing ammonia.
Did you try IV drips before this? If you did, why didn't it work? With the egg yoke solution I don't see a problem, but I bet the pinch is too tight for live food.
Throw that timer in the garbage and by yourself a smart outlet you can plug it right into a regular outlet and you can set it up to run all day long or only for one minute and multiple times a day which is much better than the timer that's what I use
Can you teach me how to hatching baby brine shrimp easily
Nick, will this work with feeding brine shrimp?
Dude I gotta know what tanks those are?? Are they homemade? Because I cannot find anything anywhere like them
why dont you use a dosing pump? However smart thing to put a small fish with them.
Just love from pak🇵🇰
❤️❤️
Are you still using this in the store?🇦🇺❤️
I would love to find someone locally who bred German rams. The three sources I have locally are all imported and I haven’t had any luck with them. Most don’t last more than two weeks before starting to breath hard and die. I’ve adjust water parameters and still no luck.
Damn
How long do the baby brine shrimp stay alive in the feeding machine? (Because they are in fresh water) Or do the baby rams also eat dead brine shrimp?
have you tried feeding bbs through this?
No I haven’t
Hit like just for that mustache
I have an betta male. his fins are biten off. So i put him in a quarantaine aquarium. i juse some stuff for his fins, but is there any resourse that help the progress go faster?
No, if you are using a proprietary brand of finrot treatment, then you should not add anything else. Give him clean water, good food and plenty of places he can feel secure in. Don't leave any uneaten food or fish waste in the tank, and he should re-grow his fins in a few weeks.
