I recommend Sapienza level from HITMAN 2016 to anyone who has a Bond game itch that needs scratching. I really hope the game feels like a Bond game with the feel of a film like the music and grand action scenes. Similar to the early 2000s releases, no more replicating other franchises I hope.
I agree, we should cognacs devs to remind them the soundtracks are key. Sam Smith’s modern song for bond is very deep too. Would be nice to see that in the game.
Amazing news. Excited doesn't even begin to cover it 😁😁. Us Bond fans have been starved of a Bond game for far too long, hopefully this game will live up to our expectations 😁😁
Recent HITMAN games are rich for different 007 references, ranging from minor characters' lines (a guard in Paris mission can sometimes mock the other NPC with a shaken-not-stirred line), sartorial aspects (gotta mention the all-black classic suit with a handkerchief in HITMAN 2 and point-collar shirts which are very similar to what Craig wore in Spectre) to the locations (the Hokkaido clinic in the mountains looks very Piz-gloria-esque). But I also would like to point out two major points that are common between these two franchises: capable character and immersive locations. 1. James Bond is very capable character when it comes to solving problems in the unusual way. Especially when it comes to impersonating other people. And HITMAN games capture the similar feelings just perfectly. Both in obvious (changing clothes to disguise) and not so obvious ways. Especially love the moment when 47 impersonates the drummer and plays drums to pass the audition in Bangkok mission. 2. Bond films often do their best work to transport the viewer into some exotic location. Most of HITMAN levels are not only fabulous-looking, but also very immersive. The simplest examples I can think of are the Bangkok Hotel and Hokkaido Clinic missions. What do people do when they first check into these places? They go to the balcony and enjoy the view. And these games allow you to lean on the edge of the balcony and enjoy the view. Very Bond-esque!
IO Interactive was a dream pick for sure. Playing through the Hitman games it's really apparent how much they love Bond, with locations, situations and weapons lifted straight from the classic movies.
Wasn't widely reported at the time, but in Agent Under Fire they used the likeness of Andrew Bicknell. He played the prison ferry captain in The Dark Knight.
I can't tell you how excited I am about this Calvin. I wasn't expecting this AT ALL. EDIT: Also sorry but your editing decisions lately are absolutely KILLING ME. Hahahaha, please do more for the good of us all!
I think the most underrated point about IO is that they recently started to self publish their games, starting with Hitman 3, which means they'll release the game when its finished and not when the publisher wants, so we won't get an unfinished game like 007 Legends
MI6 is a client of the agency after all, they sent 47 to kill spies and retrieve field agents intel which could be compromised. So a range of easter eggs can be expected. I'm actually tempted to apply for a job, particularly since Danemark is a very familiar place to me and so is Sweden
2012 was a great year for Bond. We got Skyfall and 007 Legends. Never thought I’d see a new 007 video game. Here we are 8 years later. Frankly, it’s a brilliant move because the studios need the money due to the delay of No Time To Die. The fans are going to go nuts. This is just amazing news. James Bond forever♥️
Sooo excited for this! I've been saying for years that IOI would be the perfect studio to make a Bond game! Imagine the sandbox style levels from Hitman, combined with the lore of early Fleming bond. Exploring the MI6 offices before each mission with Moneypenny, a briefing from M and then being equipped by Q Branch before deploying out on a globe-trotting story of espionage and intrigue!
So..! Now that we know the Hitman crew is making the upcoming Bond game, does that mean you would be willing to get into Non-Bond games and review the Hitman franchise so as to have a discussion of what the Bond game could look like? Edit: Also I am sure the team wouldn't mind a nit-picky bond fan to help them ensure they're respecting the franchise ;)
The likeness of James Bond should be the likeness of James Bond from the dynamite James Bond graphic novels and have a range of locations including London, Jamaica, Tokyo, Athens, Istanbul, Barcelona, New York and Rome.
Is there any chance that the Bond could look like/be played by whoever is announced as the new Bond actor? Maybe they are beginning work on this now as a way to tie in to a new Bond era.
Yea I think an original model with a dedicated voice actor would be the better move. Getting a bland voice performance from a film actor with they’re likeness isn’t necessarily gonna work out, obviously thinking to legends where it was Craig’s likeness but with a completely different voice.
This is such wonderful news! The recent Hitman games by the same Studio have really felt like 007 adventures in their own right, so I'm super excited for this!
The fact that this game is in early stages meaning that story, setting and other character would be designed first with Bond being cast at late as possible. As for who will be Bond; I think the actor playing Bond will also share the same likeness as the actor that replaces Craig. Considering this story will be 'an origin story'; the new actor will mostly likely be in their early 30s come 2022 and while the movies won't be an origin story of how Bond became Bond, I think the closest thing to compare this to would be Robert Patterson's Batman where he is playing a younger Batman
The fact that it's IO Interactive making it is quite fascinating considering how the new Hitman games were basically the closest we're gonna get to a proper James Bond game. I am wondering how they'll handle it. Who'll play James Bond? Will it be a whole separate universe or feel like part of the main "canon" like Everything or Nothing and Blood Stone? Curious.
They've actually incorporated a bunch of ideas that are clearly meant for the new bond game into Hitman 3 and they work so well that I'm sure the bond game will great.
This is truly fantastic news, IO Interactive are the perfect developers for a new 007 game but on a completely unrelated note, Calvin would you consider an in-depth Never Say Never Again review? I know you've panned the film pretty harshly on this channel in the past but I do genuinely think NSNA is underrated and very unfairly criticised by Bond traditionalists purely because it couldn't use the gun-barrel opening, Monty Norman's James Bond theme and has quite a lighthearted tone similar to Diamonds Are Forever, which I also think is underrated for a lot of the same reasons NSNA is and I know you're a defender of that film. NSNA has fantastically witty dialogue, effective action scenes, Connery is having a great time in the role again, the villain is brilliant and the screenplay was actually smart enough to implement Connery's advancing age into the story unlike the later Moore films. It's definitely flawed but the good outweighs the bad and it even does some aspects of Thunderball better than the official EoN film, the health spa sequence and Klaus Maria Brandauer's Largo is far better than Adolfo Celi's for example. James Bond as a character is far more than just THAT theme and a gun-barrel sequence, don't be put off by the traditionalist fans panning it just because it's not an EoN production. NSNA alone is better than the majority of the Roger Moore films, only LALD, TSWLM and FYEO are better.
IO Interactive are the perfect choice. You often noted your appreciation in your Bond game reviews for open ended gameplay, with choice in your approach to tackling an objective, and that is exactly what the Hitman games are all about.
Will be so happy if they manage to put in tributes to Sean Connery and Roger Moore. Also side note, been rewatching that legacy hitman 2016 cutscene on repeat just out of excitement for the potential of this game.
I knew you’d love this! Whenever we meet again at a future bond event we must discuss the PS2 Pierce Brosnan era... I feel like you’re the only person I know to share the love for it !
I think the best possible opportunity is to be able to either choose which bond you play as, or even have the option to make somewhat of a custom bond yourself
Perfect fit! Us Bond gaming fans have long suffered, the Activision era was lackluster to put it mildly. I’m so excited for this and hope more Bond games follow!
Can totally see it using the Hitman level structure, you’re dropped into an environment and told your “target” is somewhere and it’s left entirely up to you how you go about it: do you get a disguise, sneak/parkour, go in guns blazing? Target is obviously a relative term, can be looking for an ally, trying to rescue someone, retrieve intel, find a henchman to interrogate etc Would be really interesting if the first mission is actually getting the licence to kill, you can only knock out enemies until you kill the two targets and actually become 007
Ha brilliant intro! Glad to see you so happy about the announcement, as I was. I've often thought Bond should be a bit more like the Hitman games. God I hope it'll be a great.
I've not played the new Hitman games. I did try one but didn't get into it. Years ago I lived Hitman Contracts and Blood Money- they're worth checking out if you can!
Completely agree on your agent under fire point , I think they’ll go with an original creation for the character. I think they’ve probably talked to the filmmakers about future plans/direction to make sure it’s consistent with where the franchise is going over the next few years. I’m honestly so happy about this, it’s the best news we’ve had all year! In terms of entertainment anyway. Keep up the good work mate!
I was talking to a friend about a new Bond game recently and I’ve always said how much I’d like a Bond game to feel like the perfect in between of the Fleming books and Bond films. It’d be great to have a truly character driven game, to fully explore Bond. A new face, inspired by the 6 actors. Maybe not a free roam but something along the lines so we can have the option to drink Martinis and play cards at fancy Casinos. Interact with people, train at MI6, learn new combat skills. Improve firearm skills, (obviously have some cool gadgets thrown in there too) and choose different cars to drive in. Goes without saying but more spying and stealth! I want it to be a truly immersive Bond game experience which explores him as a character which will enrich the story of the game. Maybe take elements from the books which haven’t even been used in the films yet such as the Garden of Death from You only live twice or Spectreville from Diamonds are Forever. My list goes on and I’m certain Bond is in safe hands with IO Interactive.
I think Paris and Sapienza from Hitman (2016) and Mendoza from Hitman 3 (2021) are the most Bond-like levels in the Hitman franchise. I hope you check those out after Hitman 2.
I didn't know about your existence but I liked we share the same feeling and the fact that your channel is about 007 and similar stuff, so you got yourself a subscriber 😁

All those games have been adapted into video games already, back in the 80s by a company called Domark. Just gotta get yourself a ZX Spectrum and you’re all set! Whether they’re actually any good or not, I can’t say.
Great news ! Even if we have a long wait.. I have spent much of this year playing Bond games. Managed to finish Goldeneye 007 , Quantum of Solace and Bloodstone. I am currently playing some of the old 8 bit Bond games from the 80s, Licence to Kill on the Commodore 64 is actually pretty darn good! You should do some reviews of the REALLY old games.
Calvin is already auditioning to be the face of the video game Bond. You heard it here first, showed up with his own motion capture suit and everything.
While it's great that I/O are developing a new game, give how obvious the pairing is, I just hope it's more than a Bond themed Hitman game. Of course, there are clear elements of Hitman that could AND should be applied to the coming game. But I hope there are gaming elements in this Bond game that make it unique from Hitman, apart from its titular character and fan service.
Really excited about this pairing, assuming that the devs get enough time to finish the game & aren't rushed to meet a release date, the new 007 game is in great hands. Whether it's an exact copy of modern Hitman's gameplay or simply similar, this new game should have great gunplay with satsifying stealth mechanics that is optional but is encouraged with probably a scoring system or simply by being that good that you'd want to be stealthy. Most of the time, I hate being stealthy in video games especially in 007 ones. Usually the mechanics were frustrating or slower than just going in guns a-blazing. But with the 2 most recent Hitman games, I've not only gotten good at the stealth mechanics, I enjoy them. They're well-made, allow creativity with the vast amount of tools & environmental elements, and are satisfying to figure out & pull off. On the flipside the combat & gunplay are good too, so they know how to handle non-stealth segments if they decide to not go for a fully-stealth game.
This is so exciting!!! I can’t wait! Great review, as per usual, my friend! Do you think that maybe the Bond actor in the game may be the next Bond we see on the screen?? So many questions, can’t wait!

47's blending in feature was such a great thing that I want in the bond game
I think the most underrated point about IO is that they recently started to self publish their games, starting with Hitman 3, which means they'll release the game when its finished and not when the publisher wants, so we won't get an unfinished game like 007 Legends
Your videos are great man! I took a break from UA-cam for a while so I'll have to go back and see what I missed. Keep it up!
Thank you very much! And welcome back! :D
This game looks sick
We know basically nothing.
wow....
@@kclink1579 it's IOI, we kinda know how will look
IOI is literally *the **_perfect_* developer for this. i am THRILLED!
Also, yes. You should play the two latest Hitman games.
It’s been a long 8 years. This is going to be good!!!
i'm guessing it won't be coming to gamecube then
Is there any chance that the Bond could look like/be played by whoever is announced as the new Bond actor? Maybe they are beginning work on this now as a way to tie in to a new Bond era.
I’d prefer an original face for Bond but that’s very possible, considering it might come out around the time of the next Bond movie.
007: Mi6 Manager game. You are inchange of it all and what missions the 00's go on. Won't happen but I would love it.
It should have a game mechanic where it gets tough to order Bond around since he never reports on time...
The bond in the game might be the next actor who plays him in the movies
The fact that this game is in early stages meaning that story, setting and other character would be designed first with Bond being cast at late as possible. As for who will be Bond; I think the actor playing Bond will also share the same likeness as the actor that replaces Craig. Considering this story will be 'an origin story'; the new actor will mostly likely be in their early 30s come 2022 and while the movies won't be an origin story of how Bond became Bond, I think the closest thing to compare this to would be Robert Patterson's Batman where he is playing a younger Batman
The Hitman series are my favourite game series and the James Bond series are my favourite movie series. When I read about this last year I was stoked.
I beleive the mix in quantum of solace perspective mechanics were good. However I love third person mechanics as it was so much fun in 007 bloodstone
Four years later, and still nothing 😭 I’m so damn excited for this game
The fact that it's IO Interactive making it is quite fascinating considering how the new Hitman games were basically the closest we're gonna get to a proper James Bond game.
I am wondering how they'll handle it. Who'll play James Bond? Will it be a whole separate universe or feel like part of the main "canon" like Everything or Nothing and Blood Stone? Curious.
My hype is off the charts
Will be made for modern platforms and systems ......so no Amiga release :-( will it be released before NTTD?
IO Interactive are the perfect choice. You often noted your appreciation in your Bond game reviews for open ended gameplay, with choice in your approach to tackling an objective, and that is exactly what the Hitman games are all about.
Will be so happy if they manage to put in tributes to Sean Connery and Roger Moore.
Also side note, been rewatching that legacy hitman 2016 cutscene on repeat just out of excitement for the potential of this game.
Honestly, when I first watched the teaser it sent chills down my spine!
Literally last week I watched a video on why a new Bond was unlikely to happen anytime soon, and then Christmas came early.
I hope they release the older games on Steam and GOG
Also yay!! Can't wait to see your N64 Goldeneye review!
Target is obviously a relative term, can be looking for an ally, trying to rescue someone, retrieve intel, find a henchman to interrogate etc
Would be really interesting if the first mission is actually getting the licence to kill, you can only knock out enemies until you kill the two targets and actually become 007
After watching the trailer i thought of you Calvin and hoping for a video. This will be my first Bond game!
Watch the whole news thing explode if Henry Cavill voices Bond in the game ahead of any formal new Bond announcement.
What about if it was a create your own character type situation? so becomes even more immersive and you can base it on yourself etc?
I still feel like I dreamed this. I won’t believe it until I play through the game. It’s been so long since the last game
Cant wait to get this
I love watching you geeking out to this news!!
The Bond video games on PS1 and PS2 were a major part of my childhood. I’ve been longing for a new Bond game for soooooo long. I can’t wait!
I want the next Nightfire.
Here for the first minute of this video! I have never laughed so hard in my life! Completely agree with you 100% that this is truly exciting news! I hope they do a great job and don't rush into it. Looks like I'll be buying a new gaming console next year.
I was refreshing ur channel all day waiting for u to make a video
Calvin I am certain this will be amazing!! They did make the hitman series and I absolutely love those games!! I was so damn hyped when I finally heard about this!! 💖
I’d love to see adaptations of Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, The Living Daylights or License to Kill someday!
All those games have been adapted into video games already, back in the 80s by a company called Domark. Just gotta get yourself a ZX Spectrum and you’re all set! Whether they’re actually any good or not, I can’t say.
@@BenCol I meant more modern adaptations (like FPSes)😂
2022 he said... 2022.
He just made a follow up
finally.... after a long wait.... i can't wait to see what they do!
The last time I bought a Bond Game was on the PS2. Might it be time to get a new console?
Plus it's the hitman guys
Calvin is already auditioning to be the face of the video game Bond. You heard it here first, showed up with his own motion capture suit and everything.
I was waiting for this video to drop. As soon as I saw the news I instantly knew you’d be fired up and ready to go!
Hopefully it is a combination of the best parts of the previous Bond games like multiplayer, cheat codes, DK mode, etc.
I like the idea of it being more of a spy adventure than just a lot of shooting.
This news made my day! 😁 Especially hearing it with your enthusiasm, Calvin!
I kinda hope it takes place in the 1960s. The Cold War stuff would be fun
best news to come out of 2020 👏
I'm hoping they might have a character creation suite for Bond. Creating your own Bond would be so cool.
This is so exciting!!! I can’t wait! Great review, as per usual, my friend! Do you think that maybe the Bond actor in the game may be the next Bond we see on the screen?? So many questions, can’t wait!
