From what I could find online, an Amtrak car is 85 feet long. There are 13 cars and 2 engines. If we go with 425 yards total length, it should take about 11 seconds for the train to pass the cameraman. It looks like it passes in about 11 seconds. It's going close to 80 mph.

Based on a single car (1013 inches long) and counting the frames, I get 23 frames. The video is 30 FPS.
So with 23 frames, and then going up one and down one just for clarity, it actually comes out to at least 93 MPH
      24 frames = 93.8 MPH
      23 frames = 98.0 MPH
      22 frames = 102.4 MPH
I think people are upset because of how long it is and non-cinematic it is. The nature of these trains is that they're big, so they kinda look like they're going slower than they are. It also doesn't help that this is top down from a bridge, as well as with a telescopic lens head-on.
I won't disagree that it wasn't exciting, but jeez.

      Some good news...
Amtrak received $66 billion in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure bill:
      • $22 billion is dedicated directly to the agency for fleet upgrades and other systemwide improvements:
      - $6 billion goes to the Northeast Corridor
      - $16 billion to state-supported railways
      • The remaining $44 billion to go towards the Federal Railroad Administration, which will hand out the money in grants to various state agencies for upgrades to intercity railway
That's more money than Amtrak has received in its entire history. The infrastructure bill has also provided enough funding for Amtrak to replace its entire fleet, including long distance trains and Northeast regionals. New Acelas will also be rolled out in 2023.

You are a person who doesn't know what this is. This is no race. The momentum of the freight train ( if you've ever worked on the railroad- which you haven't) must stay moving. So it is allowing itself to slow roll. It takes forever to start that train from a dead start. It's probably over a mile long. Then the passenger train passes it at that speed before the siding that that freight train is in comes to end. After the pass the switch it must go through is thrown and the CSX goes back to speed. Which can be 80mph.

US rail regulations stipulate that freight trains can only run at 60MPH on any stretch of rail that will allow high speed, this dose not affect Amtrak passenger trains which are allowed to run as fast as the rail line and conditions can handle, so this is no surprise.

I didn’t think so either until I did the math. Standard car is about 80 feet long, there are 15 total cars. It takes about 10 seconds nose to tail to pass. It’s traveling about 120ft per second which is right at 80mph. Even being off 10% puts it at like 74 mph-close enough for govt work!

At a distance head on, this large of an object seems stationary, but if the camera man had been beside the tracks the speed would have been much more clear.
Regardless, that train actually is going 80 ish, there's another commenter who did a great job breaking down the math.

Yall clearly didn't watch the whole thing of him going underneath the cameraman. He was actually doing pretty close to 80. When a camera is zoomed in like that naturally your perspective of it is going to seem slow. Have you never looked up at the sky and seen a plane 30 thousand feet above you look like it was barely moving? Even though he's probably doing upwards of 350mph? Really use your brain people lol
