This video is helpful for the DRIVER'S side. On the passenger side, just reach in from the hood and you can access the bulb fairly easily. Release the wire harness before trying to turn the bulb on both sides, I found this to be the easiest approach on my 2006 Accord. I think the approach shown is actually easier and quicker than removing the battery for the drivers side. Helpful video.

This is the way the owner's manual tells you how to do it. Very good. You have a knowledgable instruction video “amidst a sea of ignorance.” It's easy peasy when you follow the owners manual. I just replaced both bulbs on my 2005 Accord. Thanks for showing us how to do it the correct way.

me, a 49 year old woman, was able to replace my headlight bulb easily with your video, thank you so much, only cost me $11 for the bulb. Love being able to do simple things myself, but the manual is useless.

Amen, I just read the manual and it is a suck fest. It even has text for "passenger" side but never mentions the driver side (b/c they know it is a ridiculous setup?). It actually shows pictures that look like my V6 setup on the driver side, but the text doesn't match. Why are car manuals, even on brand new ones (my parents just got a CRV) so crappy?

Thanks for being a contribution in sharing this video with edited instructions. Just replaced the driver's side low beam via the wheel well on a 2007 Honda Accord, and it took about 5 minutes total based off what you posted (turning wheel to the right for driver's side provided clear access). Also looked at other videos, and this method at 5 minutes with direct access was less effort than dealing with removing the battery.

Removing the 2 black circular plastic clips on the fender wall is WAY faster than removing the battery. I just put a flathead screwdriver under it on one side then slid another flathead under the other side, pulled down and it came right out easy without breaking the clip. Just replaced the drivers low beam on a 2003 accord as shown, 10 minutes total. and I was extra slow and careful. I unscrewed the bulb holder before squeezing the connector to pull out the bulb. Great video! Thanks easy job!

Thank you very much! on my 05 honda this saved a ton of time.. and NO reprogramming the radio afterwards! for those that can NOT go from under the car like one person said.. (not everyone has a lift OR ramps).. this was a major time saver. and for anyone that was wondering.. when you put the plastic back in place. there is NO sign you bent it to gain access.. when i first read how hard this was going to be in the honda manuals. i was pissed... once again, Thank you !

    Thanks for the all comments.
Step 1 one is a typo and it should read as Turn the wheel all the way to right.
For passenger's side bulb, turn the steering well all the way to the left and for the driver's side bulb, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. This helps better access to the bulb.
    Sorry for the confusion.

I watched a few videos, with some advocating removing the battery (for a drivers side low beam). i decided to go with these instructions with the added recommendation to open the hood for more light. The replacement was easier than expected and definitely took less than ten minutes. Thank you for such a helpful video! (also not that video says to turn wheels to left, but shows him turning steering wheel to right. I think he means turn the wheels (and steering wheel) to the right which gives excellent access to the drivers side wheel well).

Great tutorial. I just replaced it a few minutes ago. I noticed that I had to disconnect the connector before I could twist the bulb out. Once the connector was off, it was very easy to turn the bulb and pop it out.

  • @KrishnaTummala

As 777Firedrake said, Instruction step 3 should have included what Step 5 says. Little confusion!! Other than that, this video really saved me 40$ to change bulb, this is Dealer usual bulb change price.
Passenger side bulb can be changed after lifting hood. Mine is 2007 Honda Accord.
Remember to snap open electrical connector first before twisting to remove bulb from holder.
    Thank you deepujkathettu!!

This video along with comment input did the trick. I have the Hayes manual and the only help I got from it was how to get to the bulb. Turning the wheels in the appropriate direction definitely gives a little more room to work with and this was not mentioned in the manual. But it's still tight quarters to work in. As mentioned a couple of times, you can twist (and shout) all you want; if it won't twist and unlock from the socket, simply loosen one of the screws on the collar around the socket. Try 2 if that doesn't help.
Another tip that might save someone else some frustration. Make sure you squeeze the locking clip on the socket on the right end. May sound silly, but many of the socket clips on the old bulbs I'm familiar with unlock on the opposite end. Since it is hard to see in there, I wasn't aware that these clips are to be squeezed on the opposite end. I didn't notice the little knurl part on the end of the clip was the right place to squeeze until I shined my flashlight on it.
Also, since it is difficult to see in there, you might want to pick up one of those handy LIGHTED screwdrivers at Lowes. It has all the various common bits mounted on the handle instead of in the handle. It even has a telescoping magnetic pick up in the bit shaft. If you have ever tried to hold a flashlight while using a screw driver, particularly in a tight space, you will really appreciate this tool.

No! To replace the driver side low beam bulb you do not have to remove the battery... or remove the fender liner (risk of fender paint, liner, and clips damage)!
    1) Under the hood, on the driver side, see that small black box in front of (toward the front of the car) the battery? Easy to remove by prying the two pins holding it to the frame. There is a short tube connecting it to the tube below - pull that loosly fitting short tube out as well.
    2) Loosen the battery clamp cross member enought to twist and remove the rods hooked to the battery tray and the cross member. (Leave the battery cables attached to save your electronic settings!)
    3) You should be able to slightly lift the battery tray (the bottom plastic tray) and battery slightly and move it back an inch or two. (The tray has nubs that keep it from sliding around.)
    4) You've now opened up enough space to reach the low beam bulb. Use a flashlight for visibility.

I just installed some LED low beams, and I can attest that you can access both high and low beams from the hood alone without removing the battery or fender. Removing the black plastic cover right beside the battery (towards the front) and reaching in far with your left arm will get you to the driver side low beam bulb. The passenger can be reached easily just by reaching in with either arm. If you have trouble removing the connector from the bulb, try leaving the bulb screwed into the housing, holding the tab on the connector, and giving the connector a few light whacks with a wrench from the top. I had to do this to both of mine because it had been so long since they'd been changed.
    tl;dr: Don't destroy your fender!

In spite of a few typos, this video helped me to change the headlights on my Honda Accord. The only thing you should have mentioned were the three screws around the bulb assembly. I had to loosen one of them before I could turn the old bulb counter clockwise to remove it. I made certain I tightened it up again after I installed the new bulb.

Great video. I did this today on a 2007 accord ex. However, snapping off the power connector FIRST allows you to turn and remove the bulb with NO resistence. I was able to get to the driver side bulb just by opening the hood, again snapping off the connector first allowed me to turn the bulb without a hitch. Just a tight fit if u got big arms Thanks!

2007 LX. I disassembled the splash guard only for the driver's side as I did not wish to remove the battery. Passenger side is much easier through the hood. I also detached the wiring harness before removing the bulb. Despite living in a humid, salty area, the lights turned in and out very easily.
As previously mentioned, the fasteners are unbelievably fragile. They broke even when I was attempting to be gentle. Searching reveals this as a common problem, even when not replacing lights.

  • @nicholaslebasi
    @nicholaslebasi 12 років тому +1

2005 Accord: In the US you turn the wheel hard right for the drivers side bulb.
When removing the clips for the lining, look for the screw driver slots and remove pin gently as they can break. After unclipping the wheel well lining, unscrew the lower left screw ( of the three around the bulb) to allow the bulb assembly to be turned left. After the bulb assembly is free, it's very easy to press the white clip near the wires and release the bulb. Stay cool and don't force anything :)

just wondering, would it not be easier to move the battery from the box and reach into the light cavity? that way the fender well plastic will not be bent and distorted causing a place for future failure. Oh, the passenger side there is no obstruction so it is even easier. my method takes one third the time this method does, and you can replace both bulbs quickly.

I replaced my headlight low beam (9006) bulbs on my 2007 Honda Accord EXL 2.4L yesterday (08/12/2015) and it took me only :10min to replace BOTH bulbs. You're reading right only :10min to do both. I replaced the passenger side bulb thru engine compartment like you did BUT without the need to spray WD-40. For the Driver side, I DON'T take the battery out but instead I replaced it thru the driver side front wheel FAIRING cover by removing the two pins using the small flat screw driver. I just then pulled back the fairing cover to access the white connector. Pulled the connector down and turn the bulb COUNTER-CLOCK WISE to take out the bulbs. The all process took me only :10min. Save yourself a lot of time by not taking out the battery, and must reset your clock, radio etc.... I replaced with Warner Brite Light bulbs from Amazon cost $24.00 set and it claimed 80% brighter than OEM. I will make a video to show people that it only takes :10min to do, not 3hrs or half the afternoon to do, and don't need to use WD-40.

Ha, the inner fender cover is already gone on my ancient and limping '03, so this took me only about 3 minutes. And the longest part was just trying to get the bulb off of the connector; even with the tab pushed in real hard it was incredibly hard to separate the two, I started wondering if the bulb was superglued in or something!
As I'm just using this car until it dies I bought the rock bottom 'basic' bulb at Walmart for $8. Can't even imagine how much the dealership would charge me for the bulb and "labor" which I now know is almost no work at all!!!

I was searching online for a 'bumber'! I think you meant bumper?
I have a 2005 Accord and one clip broke as soon as I pried them out. Just so you know, you can buy those clips in an auto parts store. They're actually rivets, not clips. They're 4 bucks for two. I recommend buying one or two pair before starting because why reuse 15 year old rivets? For 8 bucks, they're last another 15 years. Also, the auto parts guy sold me headlight grease for 2 bucks. He said to smear a little on the electrical connectors to keep rain, etc. from wetting the electrical connections. It sounds like a good idea. Those connectors are directly exposed to the elements. So, when you buy the bulbs, buy extra rivets and a tiny package of contact grease. For 10 bucks more you did a more professional and complete installation!
ps I bought the bulbs before reading they last one year tops. That's nuts. My old bulbs still work after 15 years. Sure, they're dimmer (I guess), but for 40 bucks I want them to last at least a few years, not one. Is there no bulb that lasts, say five years, and also gives a better light than OEM?

I manage to replace both right bulbs by "destroying" the latch holding the electrical connector to the bulb ass'y, using a screw driver then push down ( need a fairly large and long screw driver ). I then ground the lip on the new bulb so next time I don't have to deal with the %$#% latch - straight pull down will disconnect the socket. I was lucky that I was able to just twist the outer (low) bulb without loosening the 3 screws for the outer one. If needed, you have to use a stubby screw driver.

    How Bulb Base Number ?

  • @Whelkman
    @Whelkman 11 років тому

The part number for the clips is 91512-SX0-003. I got a pack of 25 for $10 including shipping from clipsandfastners com but you can get them at many places. You can get them even cheaper on eBay if you're willing to wait. hondapartsnow com claims 91501-S04-003 also works but I can't testify to that.
Even with the new ones, when set, they are very difficult to unset once pressed it. These fasteners are not designed for removal.
I noticed several other fasteners missing while replacing.

I went to Wal-mart and the tech could NOT un-clamp the fixture. Went to Honda they did BOTH left and right in 15 min and told me the screw needed to be loosened before it would cone out. $15 later I had 2 bulbs replaced.

Way easier to go in through the hood on the passenger side. Literally took me 5 seconds. The driver's side, perhaps the wheel well is better.

You said turn it to the left, then turned it the other way, to the right

Removing the battery will give most people with skinny arms access from under the hood !

No you cant. Unless your battery is just "floating around" or you have no splash guard under the driver's fender. 2 min for the passenger maybe.

I hate my car for this!! Why can't it be simpler!!!

      Gabriel Torres ,
If it were simpler, as it usually is on older cars with the beautifully logical standard sealed beam bulbs, then bulb and housing replacements would not be such a profit maker for dealers and manufacturers. Thank the federal regulators who first allowed nonstandard headlamps for this needless expense.

i did it without doing all that. I just reached into the bulb area and replaced it in 3 minutes.

You do not need to remove the inner fender cover or battery, totally unnecessary. The person who wrote the Honda manual is an idiot. Took mine to a Honda dealer yesterday and they removed that little black cover in front of the battery to access the headlamp as another gentleman had stated. 5 minute job on driver side. And passenger side is accessible to begin with under the hood.
