    Nowadays, if you are using Retin A, any AHA products, or acne products, you are being told that it is very important to use sunscreen...and it is.
    However, recently, the FDA has now changed the standards for sunscreens in the US so that the consumer has a better understanding of sunscreens and how they protect your skin.
    The common misconception about sunscreens is that the higher the SPF, the better protections you have.
    However, what most consumers don't know is that most US sunscreens are tested for UVB (burning rays) and that the actual measurement of UVA (aging rays) is not so easily measured.
    According to the FDA, the guidelines have changed so that consumers have a better understanding of what the actual sunscreen product can actually do.
    When it comes to the beauty industry, beauty products were being advertised as having a sun protection factor in powders and mineral make up. So consumers were thinking that just by applying mineral powder, they were being protected .
    The FDA had the companies remove the labels that marketed the products stating that it was misleading.
    The actual testing of the sunscreens also showed that real life conditions were very different than the testing conditions and the amount that consumers applied on their skin was no where near the amount of sunscreen used when undergoing the testing to see how much SPF the sunscreen provided.
    Once your skin starts burning, find out what you need to do, and it is NOT applying more sunscreen because you will continue to burn.
    High SPF does not actually mean high UVA protection.
    There are NO SUNSCREEN out on the market today that protects against the ENTIRE UVA spectrum.
    Find out:
    what ingredients offer some protection from UVA
    Alternative to those ingredients
    What UVA can penetrate through
    1999-FDA decided the term "sunblock" should not be used since there are no sunscreens that can completely block out all UV rays.

    Were you surprised that most sunscreens only filter out part of the UV rays? It is no wonder I still get tan when I apply SPF 50 sunscreen!

    • @GoSeeChristy
      @GoSeeChristy  5 років тому +2

      Hi Jacqueline J, thank you so much for watching ! If the laugh lines are still there when your face is expressionless, then these are very difficult to get rid of. There are products out there that can help tighten the skin but no anything that can tighten the jowls. I'm afraid laser or more invasive procedures are needed for that.
      I wish there was but I would be misleading you if I told you there was (at least right now).

      SPF = UVB . Tanning is caused by UVA rays. That’s why Asian countries have the PA system that ranges from PA+ to Pa++++ and signifies UVA protection

    Thanks to my Kiehl’s store at the mall which made me aware of UV rays from fluorescent lights. I use a lot of their products and even before becoming a customer, the sales executives were amazing.
    One day I was in a hurry and needed to pick up a day cream. After the sale, the lady serving me enquired if I was feeling ok as my normally glowing face was looking so dull. I told her I was rushing through the day and was having a bad skin/ hair day and haven’t put anything on my face, not even sunscreen as it was cloudy and dark outside.
    To cut a long story short, I got the beauty lecture of my lifetime, and the lady made me apply sunscreen on my face before leaving the shop!!!
    Kudos to her, I am now a diligent sunscreen user.

      Hi Jessica, this is actually a great question. Depending how easily you burn, and where you live, I would get a little sun. Even when you wear sunscreen, you still are getting some sun exposure . There are no sunscreens that completely filters out all rays so you are still being exposed to some sunshine.

    • @GoSeeChristy
      @GoSeeChristy  5 років тому +2

      I have noticed that the really high SPF sunscreens usually are chemical based. I advise my clients that on a daily basis, a spf of 30 that is mineral based is sufficient. If I have a client who has had skin cancer, a family history of skin cancer, AND going to out in the sun all day, I will recommend a combination sunscreen so they can get the spf of 50 or 70. However, I will recommend to going back to the mineral based sunscreen on a daily use basis.

    • @GoSeeChristy
      @GoSeeChristy  5 років тому

      Hi Michelle Yu, I finally found the ingredients. Based on the ingredients, (I have NOT tried it as this doesn't seem to be available in the US ). this seems to be easily absorbed since it is a combination sunscreen both with chemical based sunscreen and mineral based sunscreen..
      The mineral based sunscreen also specifies that it is (nano) which means this type of sunscreen will be outlawed in Hawaii in 2021 due to what it does to the coral reefs.
      As far as photo protection, it seems to be one of the better ones. HOWEVER, there are some ingredients in there that may not work on a daily basis for sensitive skin types. This also may not be suitable for children.
      On a daily basis, I would not recommend this for break out prone, or anyone who tends to get bumpy skin.
      Again, to be fair to the product, I am simply basing it on what I see in the ingredient list and I have NOT tried it.

Will you please tell me your thoughts? I'm now worried about this issue. Thank you in advance.

    • @GoSeeChristy
      @GoSeeChristy  5 років тому +1

      Please remember that this is based on US regulations and findings. The Altruist sunscreen is a chemical based sunscreen. What they are finding is that the chemical based sunscreens that help filter out some UVA rays break down very quickly. The FDA (which is a US government agency) has different regulations and standards than the rest of the world so I don't where you are but if you exposed to a high amount of sunshine on a daily basis, then this sunscreen might be good but for those who usually work in an office may be better with a physical sunscreen (as far as healthwise).

      Hi Uh Huh, I know. I am not a fan of chemical sunscreens. I prefer physical sunscreens myself. However, given that everyone uses so many different types of sunscreens and the new info from the FDA, I felt it was pertinent to share the info and leave it up to the viewer to help them make a more informed decision. 😉.
      I have also found with working with many types of skin , that chemical based sunscreen are more likely to cause a reaction than physical based sunscreens.

      Hi Wanda Sanfiorenzo De Rodriguez, This sunscreen has two formulations. One for hydrating and one for oil free. BOTH are 21% zinc oxide so there are no chemical ingredients in them. I have used this sunscreen both for myself and for my clients.
      I have used the hydrating one for winter and the oil free for winter.
      They both work well under make up and they both have lighteners/brighteners for uneven skin tone and age /acne spots.

I prefer the physical sunscreen as they are healthier than the chemical based sunscreens since they do not get absorbed in the skin. Here is the one I use: ua-cam.com/video/EVKF1M0LPwE/v-deo.html

      Hi Humaira Murtaza, I can refer you to a couple of them. However, since I do receive a high amount of viewers from all over the world, I don't know if these would be available to you.
      I am going to include links to sunscreens that I know have worked with my clients who struggle with acne, tend to have sensitive skin .
      The first one is completely mineral based- 21% zinc oxide, helps lighten and brighten skin tone and has Tyrosinase inhibitors to help lighten acne spots over time. It also has peptides and anti oxidants and oil absorbers: goseechristybeauty.com/search?q=lira+clnical
      The second one is a combination sunscreen with BOTH mineral and chemical sunscreen:
      (as of this writing) 9% zinc oxide and 7.5% Octinoxate
      This may not be suitable for people who have extremely sensitive skin because part of the sunscreen is chemical based but it does absorb better into the skin since physical based sunscreens stay on top of the skin.
      It has Antioxidants, microsponges for
      oil absorbers and peptides

      Both of them contain anti inflammatories to help with redness .

    I love my dermalogica sunscreen (spf 50/broad spectrum) and am willing to pay ~ $65 for ~2oz of product bc the ingredients are quality and a little goes a long way. I apply it on my teenage son as well. He’s always outside and if I give him the bottle to reapply, he will either forget to or use the whole bottle in one day no matter how I instruct him😒 Is there another quality sunscreen out there you would recommend that easily spreads for his entire body, will protect him, and is cost effective for a know-it-all.... “yeah yeah yeah mom, I got it”....... in-one-ear-out-the-other...... youth who’s invincible and care-free? • @GoSeeChristy
      @GoSeeChristy  5 років тому

      Hi Sunny Dee, the thing with sunscreens (whether chemical or physical based) is that break down quickly OR they can wear off so this is why all of them say to reapply often. Obviously the ones that have anti aging agents, I would reserve for the face. For a kid running around outside, I would use a physical sunscreen. (It is better for his skin.). Obviously if he is breaking out, then he does need a higher quality sunscreen for his face. If it is just his body, I would use one that is primarily zinc oxide. If he does not like the white cast, then find one that is sheer.

      Go See Christy It is actually the sole organic UVA I & II absorber allowed for use in the United States. It does a great job of absorbing UVA radiation initially but degrades rapidly when exposed to UV light which is why “chemical” sunscreens from the US need to be reapplied so often. In Europe and elsewhere, avobenzone can be photostabilized by other organic UV filters such as Tinosorb S or Mexoryl SX. This complexing allows for stronger and longer lasting UVA protection.

    You should read about chemical sunscreens & how harming they can potentially be to us like they are to coral reefs. There has been new studies that came out about chemical sunscreens getting into our plasma almost immediately after application. I work at a dermatologist office so I’m not just saying this information for no reason.

    • @GoSeeChristy
      @GoSeeChristy  5 років тому

      I actually mention this in one of my other videos. I talk about the pros and cons of each type of sunscreen. The chemical sunscreen does not immediately get into the plasma. Molecularly it is too large. It takes 30 minutes for the chemicals to become absorbed within the tissue and works to break down the uv rays vs creating a physical barrier on the skin such as mineral sunscreens. Physical sunscreens that are micronized are also damaging to coral reefs. I personally prefer physical sunscreens to chemical sunscreens because they do NOT cause inflammation and much healthier for our skin and our bodies. I am simply reporting what the FDA articles put out on sunscreen since many people do not fully understand the differences between sunscreen type and the correct way to use sunscreen. Thank you so much for watching and joining the coversation! : )
