- After coming through the Tennessee wilderness, the man finally makes Fort Nashborough where he receives a warm welcome and a much needed hot meal. With great anticipation, he prepares to spend his first night out before leaving familiar territory to head North to the Ohio Territory.

James, one thing that I think you should know is that- when filling a canteen from a flowing water source is to point the mouth of the canteen, downstream. This keeps sand or other debris from entering your canteen by flowing into it. This stuff will not flow upstream.
Yes, that is generally true but not applicable to a waterfall of this size when you are filling it from the side.

This series is absolutely wonderful! I live just up the road from an 18th century settlement/fort called Fort Vallonia here in Indiana. It was especially active during the period of the War of 1812, and there were multiple depredations committed by the local Native Americans that caused families to seek refuge in the ole blockhouse and stockade. A little further down the road was the Pigeon Roost Massacre of 1813, where almost the entire population of a town was killed. Also, since most of the able-bodied males were off fighting in the war, the victims consisted almost entirely of women, kids and grandparents, including the pregnant wife of a captain and her unborn child, which was cut out of her belly.
Wow. That's a lot of interesting history in a relatively small geographical area. Thank you so much for sharing and for watching the videos!
The Great Adventure begins. I don't think many have an understanding of just how difficult travel could be in the early U.S.. If there was a road, it was likely to be a stump riddled track that could turn to mud any time a rain shower came through, even in the more settled Eastern Coast lands, let alone the backwoods. On a good day, a wagon could make maybe 10 to 15 miles, depending on the terrain. More often it was far less. Breakdowns were frequent, and crossing streams and rivers were a nightmare. Travel by horse was a little better, but still left much to be desired. Dangers abounded... wild animals like bears, panthers, and wolves who would be more than willing to debate who was top of the food chain were plentiful and could be encountered at any time. Two footed animals, red and white, also lurked about, and many a lone traveler met their end that way. The advice given about staying off the main trails as much as possible and making cold camps is wise. Thanks for sharing with us! I'm looking forward to the next one!

It sure gets dark fast out there lol! Very entertaining. Great job. Putting a human touch and a face to the history that so many took part in. We'll never know how many shared these same ideals and ideas in search of better times. Giving the mind a tangible scene to refer to helps convey that message. ... There is an unfortunate phase that the historical base is going through. Most participants are growing old. Whether they grew old within it, or with the leisure of retired life have newly entered it, the life's blood of the crowd is moving slower through hardening arteries. The last great surge in young blood came before big-tech overtook everyone's life. Hopefully your series will do it's part in, not only informing, but inspiring others to partake in the pursuit. Well done and keep it up.

Most of my ancestors moved south to get of the cold winters up north. We have not left, either. I like the name, James Robertson because I descend from this family. They were from Edinburgh and moved into Henrico County, VA.

Thank you so much! The chairs were part of the furniture that was available at the fort. The rectangular wooden plate was known as a trencher and was hand-carved by the man known as Wayne.

@@WayPointSurvival absolutely, being on camera is so much more difficult than even being on stage in my opinion. It feels so artificial trying to act like a frontiersman while trying not to stare at a camera lense.
Sorry to reply again but I wanted to say it's awesome that you don't judge a book by it's cover regarding homelessness or hobo lifestyle. I was homeless for about a year and had to rebuild my life while trying to overcome an addiction.
I was lucky to maintain a job while stealth camping and occasionally getting a hotel room. You really don't appreciate something until you have nothing at all.
The kindness of others helped me at my darkest time and while I still worked 60+ hours a week. My coworkers slowly realized and helped me find a couch to sleep on and was then given a free mattress.
Getting that wakeup in life will be something I'll never forget and although a lot of people make the homeless look bad, there are some that truly do want to work and get back to contributing to society.
What you do really helps shine a positive light on people who might need it the most.

Episode 11. "A Strange Storm". A short and violent electrical storm happens. Master Bender finds a strange metal pot afterwards marked "Stanley". He never finds Stanley but he copies the pot and his family becomes rich! RICH!!! :-)

Yes, it isn't Fort Nashboro, it's actually Fort Wayne, Indiana. There were too many hoops to jump through and insurance requirements to film in Nashville. I did try, but ultimately I ended up filming in the other fort. Thank you for watching!

I remember reading somewhere that manufactured shoes were basically the same with no left or right shoe rather, you had to wear them in to fit your feet. Was this the case in the 1790’s with the Buckle shoes?
Yes. They are formed on what is called a straight last. I know which foot to put them on based on the way the buckles fasten. Thank you for watching and for your question!
Brother, this is a cool video series, is the Fort in Ohio? I have been to a pretty cool reproduction fort called Fort Randolph on the border of Ohio and WV. As a 14 year old Boy Scout I was a part of a Venturing Crew that did F&I War living history and it was a ton of fun. How long have you been involved in living history or rendezvous?

Some days I sure do like what our new country used to be, compared to what it’s become.
Indeed. Life was simpler, but also much more difficult in certain ways. However, things were made to last and without overly romanticizing it, it was an amazing period of time to be alive.
Bear is greasier than racoon, but either way, roasted on a stick over an open fire until all that fat crisps up the meat and cooks off...a tad of salt and pepper...ummm ummm good!
