SHORT BREED DESCRIPTION:
The breed, as its name suggests, is a type of herding dog developed in Switzerland in the twentieth century. Sometimes known as the White Swiss Shepherd or the Berger Blanc Suisse, they were first bred for herding, but their strength and intelligence meant they soon became popular in a variety of roles.
The White Swiss Shepherd is a medium-to-large, powerful, well-muscled dog with harmonious lines. They look very similar to German Shepherds. The difference in appearance between the two breeds is coat color. While the German Shepherd is typically tan and black, all white or all black, the Swiss Shepherd is only white.
The White Swiss Shepherd Dog is known for its good demeanor towards children. They are very kind and protective towards children, although, their size can put them at risk. White Swiss Shepherds are easy to train and are extremely clingy to their owners. They will follow you around everywhere, even to places you don’t really want them to, like your bed.
As with any breed of dog, it is vital to choose one that is suitable for your lifestyle. The Berger Blanc Suisse is high energy, so plenty of space is needed to move around easily and explore. That’s why a fenced in yard is most ideal- not a tiny apartment in the city.

I own a 3.5 year old swiss Shepherd. She is amazing in my eyes. Loves to be very active. Longwalks running after the ball and playing with other dogs. Also loves to train en compete in agility matches. She very kind to people. But reacts when needed. Late at night some crazy guy wanted to rob me and she jumped the guy within a second. I literally trust her with my life! Kids love her! She is so good with kids that she is beeing used in therapy for kids that have dogfobia. She is a better dog then I could ever imagine

@@Rocadog We bought her from someone selling puppies in a parking lot on the Big Island of Hawaii. We were told the Mom was a chow chow and they were not sure of the dad--they said probably a lab or "this other hunting dog". She looks nothing like a chow. She is identical to the videos and photos of the Swiss German Shepherd-- coloring stature, gorgeous long fur-- everything. From a pup of eight weeks she looks exactly like all the photos--she is beautiful-- all white with a tinge of cream on her neck and back. She is nine months now and we would like to breed her. It is unlikely we will find a white german shepherd in Hawaii. How could we have a dog that appears to be a white swiss shepherd? I would love to send you photos.
i went to a shelter to get a $500 so called " German Shepard" rescue as told by the establishment/previous owner. I even saw photos of both the parents, both short haired, one looked like a traditional German Shepard but the mom was fully snow white, so my dog became this vanilla/blonde color, I was always so confused because her structure/face shape looked so different from other shepherds I've seen, but turns out she's just swiss xD
My WSS is 18 months old & is now running with me. He is certainly my shadow ,full of energy & very smart. Also has a good sense of humour. His beauty goes without saying!

I just adopted a white shepherd 2 months ago from the animal shelter. She was left there by her owner, pregnant, with no information about her background not even her age. When I met her she was traumatized and could not be touched by anyone. Clearly she had been abused, neglected, and beaten. She had given birth and the shelter had "euthanized" her puppy, they were going to do the same with her because she was considered "un-adoptable". I took her home that day convinced I could help her. She bonded instantly with me in the back seat of the car on the way home. Two months later and she is a completely different dog. My neighbors swear she becomes more beautiful every day; it's because she carries herself differently, with strength and confidence, like the wolf princess she is. I will never know what variety of White Shepherd she is, just as I won't know what happened to her in her life before me. But she rewards me every day for saving her life, and she saves me right back. She is completely devoted to me and I worry about her since I've been in hospital for a week now, I don't want her to think I've abandon her. But my neighbors tell me they've been taking her out which is the next step in her development, trusting and forming attachments with others. And she is. All this to say that Astrid (the perfect name for my baby girl), like the German Shepherd I had when I was younger, is a wonderful dog, bright, energetic, athletic, affectionate and completely loyal. Thank god I have her in my life.

@@Rocadog she's an amazing dog! My previous service dog, Inara, died in January very suddenly. She was almost 12 and I raised her from a puppy. I feel like she brought me to Astrid. I don't know where I'd be without her. She's brought me back to life💙

I have one WSS, her name is Hima. She is very shy, but very friendly. She is very friendly with my other dogs (even so gentle, he got scared when my dog barked at her. But besides all that, she is very smart and highly intelligent dog. So happy to have her. 🥰🥰

I have a wss, we got her from the pound and we were told she was a Samoyed but she wasn’t as fluffy and her snout was longer so I did more research and I came across the wss and I was so happy to finally know what breed my dog is, she is seriously the best thing that has come into my life I love her so much.

Ours is nearly three, her name is Leila. I swear she is the most beautiful dog in the world. There are three in our family and she has a different relationship with each of us. My wife Monica did most of the initial training because I have osteoarthritis in both knees. Our 23-year-old daughter is probably the strictest with her and though she knows she can get away with more with me, she also knows where the bottom line is. Recently I have trained her to bring back or drop the ball after I hurl it, and when she comes to me at the local dog park and snuggles into my legs and begs to be patted, I am the proudest and happiest dog owner in the world. And, to watch her run, either chasing a ball, a frisbee, or a bird, is the epitome of beauty and majesty.

We have a male white Swiss Shepherd and hands down, I think he is the best kind of dog out there. Apollo is tolerant of other animals. He is very friendly, very powerful, affectionate, noble, very playful, protective, comical, physically beautiful, loyal and dare I say it, kind. He even tries to 'talk' back to us when we talk.

I just got a swiss white shepherd and I love her and agree with everything you said - full of energy - very nice character and great with kids - she just loves them and apartment from normal nipping and playing she is very safe -
My son has Autism and he walks with her and she has given him lots of confidence -

I got my Swiss Shepherd a moth back, he is 3 months old and his name is Aragon, I have a pitch black cat named Shadow and the two of them follow me around like shadow's, all day, all night! they both sleep in the bed with me and at the best of times seem to get along well, my Swiss is very intelligent and can see a very protective nature arising.
Yes, they are so loyal, sometimes it can be too much :-D I am sure they will get along, since you socialize them from the Aragons puppyhood :)

I got one cost me n arm n a leg to buy but she is now 6 and hasn't had any serious issues other than the occasional sneeze. Frist dog I have ever owned. Only breed I'll get forever.

I'm trying to adopt a white Sheppard who has been stuck on a 8 foot chain. He is out there 24 hours a day, no blanket or toys, just a tiny dog house for shelter. I have a big backyard for him to play in and would be so spoiled if I could finally get the people to give him to me. He would never be cold or over heated ever again unless in play. We also have vacation property in the mountains so he would go on hikes and play in streams, just have fun for how ever long he has left. I'm on almost two years and FINALLY my county here in Florida is trying to pass a no tethering law. Any suggestions to help me save this poor dog from if anything from being lonely. He dug a hole in the ground for cooling. I'm just heartbroken for this beautiful creature. Never had a bath, the collar is tighter than it should be. WISH I could just walk on the property and just take him with me. He isn't skinny but never see a water or food bowl. Any suggestions?!?! I need help!!
Poor dog.. It is hard to give you any advice, since the laws in each country are different. But i would contact local shelter for help, they should definitely know what are your options and possibilities to help the poor dog. And it is likely they will help you with it.

I’ve got one called Ghost. He’s the most amazing dog. Keeps to himself a lot. Very intelligent and athletic. Can jump over a 2m fence with a run up.
Very shy as well. Gets a bit of attention from people then goes off on his own mission.

I have a white Swiss Shepard at home. I brought her around 1.5 weeks ago. Her name is Jessie and she it literally the cutest, prettiest dog I've ever met. Came here to find some extra background info about her, since it's really hard to find. I really wanted to know more about the history though. And when did White Swiss and white German become two different dogs since if I'm not mistaken they started out as the same

PLUS I can’t stress this enough socialize her a lot, bring her everywhere with you so she gets use to people and children this is very important because they are protective and need to know that not all people are a threat.

Just wondering about price. One site says around $2000 is what you should expect to pay but the two breeders i found are $4000-$5000. Any feedback is appreciated so i do not make an unwise decision.
i have found a stray dog have yet to check for any cheap, but plan to do so. based on some goggle search it can be a mix of Canaan/shepherd/collie but after this video im convince that its a White Swiss Shepherd. i wish i could upload a picture to get more opinions.

I live in the UK and just rescued a dog that came in from Portugal with 9 other dogs. People have told me she is a Long Haired Swiss Shepherd but she has a golden back? but everything you say in this, Rosie is just like in her temperament and the way she plays- also great with children but also quite protective of the garden and house. and a bit of a lump at just over 6 stone in weight.. but what I want to know - Do swiss German shepherds have golden backs? -- if they don't then what people have told me is wrong and she's not a Swiss German Shepherd :(… but she's beautiful and I'm so lucky to have found her.. I love her to bits :)
I dont think i ever see a WWS with golden back. They can be little bit yellow (but really only a little bit, you cant normally see it, unless they are on white background, for example in the snow), but in normal conditions, they are all white. But honestly, i would not be worried about it, if she is acting like a WWS and you love her the way she is :)
I have one and he has a light tan line, idk about golden but they are mostly white and you have to get an special shampoo for white coats

hi I have 2 white shepherds, theybwere not developed in Switzerland they originate in Germany who didn't want them, went to use and Canada and later to Switzerland who claim them as their own,,, my 2 dogs are very typical of what you described, mine are long coat

My girl doesn't fetch sticks or balls or anything! I find this quite odd as I've previously had tan German shepherds and they loved playing! Mine is happy but would rather sit by herself and be very aggressive towards strangers and other dogs. I don't know why she is like this......she's been raised with alot if love and TLC. She's three years old now. Any ideas are welcome!!

I saw a white dog at the store the other day and asked it it was a white GSD and the owners said yes. She was an 11 week old puppy and her hair seem to feel like a GSD when I petted her. How can a person tell the difference between a full grown GSD and a White Swiss Shepherd?
That is very hard to tell them apart. The biggest difference is their stance and hip angulation. The WWS have more upright stance. White swiss shepherd also have darker nose, but the difference is not big.

I think I have a WSS GSD mix. He is short haired with amber greenish eyes. Hips aren’t very angular but rather straight and is very out going. He warms up to strangers quite quickly but I think that has to do with owners energy toward the person. He also has a pinkish brown nose. He is very long about 5ft. I’m 5ft 4in tall. His front paws reach my chest every time he jumps on me. He tail is also very long reaches just past the jock of his rear paws. Sits about 2in above the ground when he’s not wagging and happy. When wagging and happy the tip of his tail curls up but for the most part remains straight.

As a stray 12 years ago she was my love. I recently had to put her down at 14 years old. She was in a lot of pain. I’m hoping you can tell me if she was some kind of Sheppard. Her nose was not black and her ears tipped a bit. I wish that I could attach a picture but don’t know how. Also is the DM gene prevalent in white Swiss Shepard’s.?

I have a 8 months white swiss shepherd and it's a huddle training him the basic tricks....any tips????
chikla Comida keep your training session about 15 or 20 mins. Also use a high reward treats and be consistent, use the same commands thru the day and praise when he gets it. Sometimes it doesn’t kick in for a couple of months and then all of the sudden he is doing it. Mine is 2.5 years and very treat motivated and still learning but he is picking it up! Good luck.
Hi. I have adopted a dog and ppl in the dog pound told me it is xcros German shepherd & husky. Her name is Dixie she's about 30kg, all white, exactly same personality as you have described. I really start to think she's white swiss shepherd.

Good luck with your new puppy! I am sure you will have a lot of great time together. For the tips, i would suggest doing the same as with any other puppy (if you already had dogs in the past). If you live with your dog indoors, take your dog outside everytime it eats, wakes up, play actively, because it will want to pee. Always praise the dog when it pee outside, the WSS is a quick learner and they will quickly understand that they should do it outside. Early socialization with other friendly dogs and people is essential to have good natured dog in the future. Start with the family members and family dogs you know. A lot of adult dogs will not enjoy the company of a puppy, so always properly supervise the situation. Well, you should always supervise the puppy, they can hurt themselves or destroy your stuff in a second. If you can not supervise them, put them in their room, where they can not destroy anything valuable. Be very patient and do not use any harsh training methods on a puppy. Positive reinforcement is the best way how to teach a dog all the basic commands. When you are walking your puppy, let it off leash a lot, puppies have natural instinct to follow its mother/pack (which will be you) and they should naturally go after you. You can try to hide yourself from the puppy from time to time and call its name. This is a great way how to achieve, that the puppy will naturally look after you. And you can let them off leash, becauce for some time you will be actually faster then them (not for long time though :-D)

I hate to show my age, but when I was three yrs old and mom was pregnant, we had a Maltese who was a wedding present. I WAS BORN IN Rhode Island.
When I was three, Korean War came and a white German shepherd came to replace my father who went to sea. The shepherd came from Rhode Island. Too. We named her Lova, Lady Lova of Ivalou. I don't know what her registered name was. SHE RAISED ME UNTIL DADDY GOT HOME. We slept together, and came and went through the bedroom window. Mother didn't have to watch me, and she was far gone pregnant in hot and humid south, so no more going over there in the heat, and no air conditioning.
When dsd died 60 years later I found a letter and cancelled check for $2,500.00 from a breeder in Rhode Island or Long Island. I always wondered how much that would be today.

Hello! I am a pet novice, however as I am soon starting college and living alone in the house with a yard or at the small apartment with my parents during the winter, I realised I need a loyal guard dog who can keep me safe and be my cuddly furball best friend at the same time, as well as an active companion for hiking and adventures. Are these dogs good for first time dog owners and I wonder if they are not too clingy because I would need to keep it as a guard dog outside in the backyard during the night so I could sleep tight?
Sounds like in college you likely won't have much time to devote to the dog. Also, keeping the dog outside at night by itself as a Guard for you seems cold hearted. These dogs need companionship, love, and training. They are domesticated creatures not to be ignored for the most part.
A dog sleeping inside will protect you better than one who is outside.

Do White Swiss Shepherds have the Degenerative Myelopathy gene (DM)?
Contrary to popular belief, white German shepherd dogs are not albinos. The white color comes from a distinctive gene that both parents would carry. A common feature of many white German shepherd dogs is the “snow nose” - caused by a pigment that makes the nose turn lighter during the colder months. They have No Albino deficits. The pure breed WGS also does not have blindness or deafness because they are not a true white color it is a very light beige that looks white in the sun.
It is called White German Shepherd dog and is registable in the akc as such and not White swiss Sheperd
It really is White Swiss Shepherd (or Berger Blanc Suisse), they are recognized under this name in many kennel clubs including the FCI (the international kennel club organization).
