    "All that sympathy just for that" , like it isn't just the blood the pain and aches you get if it was just blood I would be fine but the pain and cramps and hormones suck .

      Imagine if someone injected a muscle-constricting substance into the muscles of your belly, after 2 minutes they inject a muscle-relaxing substance and they repeat this for 2 days thus causing constant cramps. You could describe the feeling as having the constant feeling of diarrhea but you can't go to the toilet.

      L5940 and the tiredness I get tired and out of energy when I'm on and I get cravings for like double the amount of food I'm supposed to eat I put on like 2 stones in 3 days lol .

      I know people who have so much pain that they can't go through their periods without heavy painmedication, there's also women who have so much bloodflow that they constantly have to change their pads. I don't get cravings, I survive the pain by any means necessary. But yes, I'm also tired because the pain is so bad that I can't fall asleep. I usually eat way less and only drink water.

      L5940 ooh that's sucks I knew someone who had to have period tablets because the cramps they got was really bad and that in school teachers wouldn't let girls change their pads or tampons in class and this one girl leaked on the chair and through her pants it was really annoying when she told me because if it was me I would have lost it with the teacher periods suck altogether and I also find it annoying when guys think it's nothing and it doesn't hurt and that girls are just being over dramatic I really would like to swap genders for the day when I was on and see how they would like it lol .

    • @L5940
      @L5940 7 років тому +3

      They can feel it, there are electrodes which can stimulate the muscles of the belly to cause cramps in different severities. You could even cause childbirth-like cramps with those electrodes. But yes, having periods is the worst and we're also one of the few species that has it.
      Just because the cells of human babies are WAY too aggressive and we actually need that layer to protect ourselfs against the baby too.

The cramping and the nausea, the emotional whiplash, the night sweats, the fatigue and insomnia, the increased appetite or literal vomiting, the diarrhea and/or constipation, the expensive products, the LEAKAGE (and laundry to clean everything up), the CONSTANT need to change a pad tampon or to empty a Diva Cup, the inability to get comfortable....THAT'S what makes it such a hassle.

    I'm a little confused why a lot of people are commenting, that men shouldn't know much about periods because it does not affect them. Maybe not every single detail there is to know, but what if they have daughters and their partner is not around? Who is responsible for teaching her about periods? And how can they teach if they don't know anything?

    • @magdaty1815

      I think they should know, and having that in mind they could offer us this extra amount of patience and understanding for our changing moods, but instead about how to place a tampoo, I wish they knew that's an entire hormone battle each 21-28 days, when a woman (not necessarly but it happens to some of us) cannot control herself, feels like crying all the time or that everything irritates, or got these painful spasms, and maybe that's not all blood but for many women those are such amounts it causes rough sleep, waking up in a pot, figuring out how to manage from bed to bathroom when the flow just don't stop, I'm sure if it was male thing there would be more killing and there would be a law 'murder in period' and it would be considered as extenuating circumstances

      Because in our world, women are taught to hide their suffering from the world. It's a taboo subject to talk about menstruation problems in public. Men will often say: ''Then we should be allowed to talk about jerking off in the public too!'' My question is how did women deal with periods in the 1600s ?

    • @L5940
      @L5940 7 років тому +89

      The rich women isolated themselves in a room and had few contacts until the period was mostly over. In the case of poor women, they just had to stick some cloth down there and carry on although it did obviously affect their amount of acitivities.

    • @JustSaralius
      @JustSaralius 7 років тому +22

      They also had lots of layers of petticoats (no fabric up in between the legs until the 1800's I think) which acted as protection for their dresses and furniture etc. I imagine though that some working women who did not have the option of being still all day, would have some kind of loin cloth on if they where bleeding heavily and the skirts and stockings wasn't enough.

    • @truneilson
      @truneilson 7 років тому +19

      With rags...hence being "on the rag"

    • @JustSaralius
      @JustSaralius 7 років тому +5

      That expression isn't that old though, is it? Genuinely asking! :P
      Also, to add to the answers, women were pregnant a lot more back in the days before the widespread use of and access to any working contraceptives (with the exception of some religious and social groups that used family planning or those who were celibate etc.).
      There has always been a wide variety of contraceptive methods throughout the ages and some of them where actually quite effective as such, but most were just superstitious nonsense (like "put this plant under your bed" sort of thing). If you were rich, the odds of having access to the stuff that really worked were generally higher.
      But even the richest of women used to give birth to a lot more children on average than we do today. Those figures dropped only recently. So pregnancy did in fact use to have quite a big affect on the amount of time a woman spent being on her period. At least for sexually active women.

What she means is that the blood is collected in the cup for a duration of 6-12 hours - *DEPENDING* upon menstrual flow and the size of the menstrual cup. Menstrual cups do have to be emptied consistently over the duration of a menstrual cycle. There are different sized menstrual cups for light to heavy flow. Most period products accommodate light to heavy flow.

Women could literally die if they leave a menstrual cup/tampon inside them for too long because of bacteria. So yes, it is extremely uncomfortable and (for ~85% of women) painful.

      I totally agree with you, my friend and her sister told me about their periods in detail. They used terminology I did not understand until I googled it a few days later, my friend also showed me her "blood" deposit in the toilet and the used"pad". They both insisted that was what is referred to as a "light" period...when there is not too much blood, as they both mentioned the so called "heavy" period and smiled when they talked about the amounts of blood during one of those! The other symptoms that come along with the blood lose were described as well. All I know is that day I found out how fortunate I am, having been born a male...the worst I have to look forward to is passing gas and belching, which are not my favorite activities. I'm just REALLY happy I'm a guy, so very happy...I don't know what I would have done if I was a woman, I doubt I would have been able to deal with any of this...it's just not for me, none of it.

    "All that sympathy for that." Well, they do seem to have a better idea of why and how it happens than some men do over here in the states. Some men here think it is voluntary and that women use these products so they can willfully soil themselves. But the real issue is not the blood itself. Some symptoms such as pain and fatigue can be debilitating. And these vary from woman to woman. Some barely notice they have a period, some can't leave their beds.

      It creates a thickened uterine wall full of nutrients for that purpose. In order to keep the environment fresh and healthy it will shed it and rebuild it. (Kind of like eating an older sandwich vs. a new sandwich). A healthy uterus lining makes it easier for zygotes (egg/sperm fusion) to attach and grow. Another thing that you may not know is that the egg will release exactly 14 days before the start of your period! Upon ovulation, you have 24 hours for the egg to be out to get pregnant. 4 days before this is the maximum amount of time sperm can live inside the uterus, but for some reason we act like women can get pregnant at any point in their cycles. It’s really only ovulation and those few days, not all the time.

    In addition to blood, there are other fluids contained in the lining of the uterus that would support and nourish an egg. All the fluid adds to the flow which in total ends up being a lot more liquid than just actual blood. I would say the middle amount is more realistic. Some women pass out because of the heavy flow. Some women require wearing a tampon and a pad at the same time. It can be traumatizing for young girls, and age 8 is now a typical age for menstration to begin, and the age is continuing to decrease for unknown reasons.

      flower edit: If you are on hormones as a trans man, it will stop menstruation at a certain point (not immediately though, changing hormone levels and the effect they have on the body can take a while for the body to adjust to). If a transgender child who is female but wants to become male takes puberty blockers the uterus might never prepare itself for a possible fertilisation of an egg once and thus, the transgender child will not menstruate. I understand that you were not trying to be offensive, but try to look up some more information about the subject next time. ;) I, for once, am perfectly happy with the BBC calling them girls who menstruate, it would become unimaginably confusing if they stopped doing that in such a videoreport.

      Because it's more than just blood. It's also uterus lining and vaginal discharge. Which accounts for a lot more than just a shot glass full, especially if you're someone who has a heavier flow. The shot glass is just used as an "average" of how much blood is lost. But everyone is different of course, so some people may lose less some more.
