My son worked at a predominantly female office his Sr year in high school. He actually figured out his co-workers’ cycles and would leave them chocolates on there desks at just the right time. He’s 31 now and very aware and sympathetic to what his female friends go through.
I used to work with a guy that left the few ladies in the building chocolates. A couple of us were friends with his wife and all synced to the same cycle. He knew when to leave us snacks and candy. He had to deal with it at work and at home 😆

When my dad was battling cancer he was taking hormones as part of his treatment and one day he said I feel really sad and irritated and I just dont understand why (we were on vacation) and then he said I understand how you all feel when you're on your period. It was interesting to see him get a unique perspective on what we go through
When I first got my period I already knew what it was, my first thought was, "Crap, now I gotta deal with this for the rest of my life." I told my mom and she was excited while I'm like 😐
This has helped me understand alot. Why did my sex ed classes chose to not teach boys this stuff as well i dont know. Both genders need to learn and understand what the other is gping through. Especially boys, boys can be very childish.
*all genders (sorry I just get annoyed when people say "both genders" because it implies there are only two, nothing against you though (: ) and I'm glad that boys are wanting to learn! Most boys in my class are quite immature and probably would laugh and stuff, but you seem very mature! And I agree, boys should learn, periods aren't something women should have to hide and keep a secret, they should be able to tell their boyfriend's and guy friends and boys about it instead of feeling ashamed and worried to be judged
I am 67 years old now, and started my "cycles" at 14.5. Lots of pain from the beginning. Didn't know I had endometriosis until my total hysterectomy when I was 47 years old! Had infertility problems, but my husband and I were blessed with one child. Severe pain, vomiting, and shooting pains down my legs for years!!!
It’s very sad that people aren’t more informed that you shouldn’t be vomiting from pain, and you shouldn’t be passing out from it alone. Hopefully endometriosis is better taught soon.

Fun fact: The reason we tend to get more mood swings and we snap a bit more on our periods is because the amount of testosterone in our bodies is increased
@@GayDisaster16 Actually, women do naturally produce a tiny bit of testosterone. It’s much less than men, but we do produce it. Ladies, extreme pain is not normal with periods. If you have bad pain and other symptoms please seek help to see if you have endometriosis or adenomyosis. I’m glad she at least mentioned endometriosis.
@@justsomerandomname2067 I don't know where you live but in my country we have the option for free healthcare (you can get free contraceptive pills and condoms for example, as well as any other medicine your doctor prescribes) so at least to me it seems like period related stuff should fit into that same category. It's not something we can help but have, there's nothing we can do about it but control its symptoms by taking hormonal contraceptives, ibuprofen (both of which you can get for free) and using pads/tampons/menstrual cups. If not free they should at least be heavily subsidized. They can be rather expensive, especially if you have a heavier period that lasts for longer than 6 days and you live with multiple people who will most probably get their periods at the same time as you (and not everyone has that kind of money to just throw away in the form of a pad each month) Sorry for the long comment I'm high and I can't for the life of me make it shorter, I swear I tried

I feel as if the endometrioses bit wasn't explained well enough. It's not just about pain. Basically the tissue that usually only builds in the uterus to be prepared for a possible fertilized egg to implant, not only grows in the uterus, but also outside of it. It can attach to other organs as well. And every months it becomes more and more, because it can't be bled out like the normal tissue. So, when there's too much of it, that's when the pain starts. And it becomes stronger each month. The tissue can also lead to bowel problems and others. It's really horrible that women are often not being taken seriously when they talk about pain and that it takes so long for them to be diagnosed.
The scary thing is that endometrial tissue can in rare cases float in the blood stream, there was a woman that wound up with endometrial tissue in her lungs and brain. Even when it's not as crazy as that some people's cervix and uterus get fused to organs around them from all the endometrial tissue growing. It's hardcore.
No the blood doesn’t stay there it is absorbed by your body , but blood where blood isn’t supposed to be in the body is very painful. Just like a large bruise. You don’t end up with 40 years of old blood in you.
(person with endometriosis here!) the tissue that grows outside the uterus is actually 'Similar' but totally different than the tissue that grows INSIDE the uterus. It even creates its own estrogen supply independently of the ovaries, which is one of the many reasons why getting a hysterectomy isn't a cure. Also pain and the amount of endo tissue doesn't necessarily correlate with pain, some people can have it everywhere, and not even know they have endo; other people can have it in only a few spots, and feel like hell. The tissue breaks down and is reabsorbed by the body which creates this sort of festering gunk that can fuse your organs together (it can also present as clear slime, that does the same thing, but is harder to diagnose because it is damn near impossible to see). Surgery is the only way to properly diagnose because unless you have things like cysts as well, it doesn't show up on any scans. Surgery is done laparoscopically, and there are two methods ablation and excision. Ablation really doesn't work well because it's just burning off surface level endo tissue on internal organs (it's like melting the tip off the iceberg and saying "good enough") whereas excision is actually cutting into organs to dig out as much tissue as possible (while trying not to do any serious damage to the internal organs...but it happens). But because it creates its own estrogen supply and feeds off of that, it always grows back.

Exactly! That's what I did. Open doors for him to wander in and out on his own terms. He first really noticed when he was 2 years old, so I explained in terms he could understand from then onwards. He always felt comfortable to ask questions. He was never distressed or embarrassed by periods, other blood , his or anyone else's, or anything related to the body. It was just all part of life. I also explained when I had PMS so he would be prepared for any over reactions! He appreciated the warnings! If he knew I was having my period, he wouldn't worry, and would know it was temporary and I would feel better soon. When I was too sick to leave home, at 12 years old he walked to the local shop and bought me sanitary products. He said it was an interesting psychological experiment seeing people looking at him weirdly while he was buying them! He was totally comfortable about the whole thing, and happy to do something more mature and independent and help me. :)

I'm on my period, find this vid, think "Oh hey, I'm curious what he knows!" As soon as Natalie asks the endometriosis question I start crying. Some of it might be hormones, some pain... But most of it is the feeling of being seen and feeling so happy that that question was included. I'd like to ask anyone that doesn't know what Endometriosis is to have a look online. Find the details, look up the symptoms and what it might lead to. One day you might recognize these details in yourself, your family, friends, coworkers or just a random woman suffering on the street. And you'll be able to tell them to look into it and save them YEARS OF PAIN without a clear cause. Thank you Joe
There is only that amount of blood specifically for healthy women, but there are other things mixed with it. Don't think it's not a big deal and a lot of work, pals without periods. Especially if you have any illnesses that affect your periods. Like PCOS or Endometriosis. There's other fluids mixed with the blood that build up the walls of the uterus and are helping to get the shed layer and blood out so there's more discharged than a shot glass over 4 days. And way more when it's far longer... Ugh.
totally agree, and also some people’s uterus’ can just decide, ‘happy birthday lemme release two eggs not one’ so it can be heavier because of that! a shot glass every 4 days sounds ridiculous, more like a shot glass per two tampons 😂
Thank you for clarifying that! I’m on the birth control shot and it messes up my period so bad, I am getting off of it, however a few times I have bled for 2 months in a row!!!! I’m not kidding I lost enough blood to pass out and probably die.
There's always other fluids besides blood regardless of conditions (person with endometriosis here) because you aren't JUST shedding blood, the whole lining of the uterus is breaking down and being flushed out of your body, along with things like discharge as well. I absolutely hate the heavy bleeding and the clotting. Thankfully I take meds to stop my period, but I'll never forget how awful it was getting it and bleeding like crazy for even as long as 2-4 weeks. And some people without health conditions can bleed heavy too, but of course if it's really heavy (or you feel lightheaded at any time) definitely worth getting checked out by a doctor who actually listens; because better safe than sorry.
@@TheHestya Right? They just seem to breeze through it. Of course they could be more miserable than they are letting on, and are just great at hiding their discomfort/pain. I honestly don't get mood swings on my period, so the trope that women who are angry must be on their periods is a bit tiresome. PMS doesn't affect all women, so quite a few of us can be very happy even when we're dripping blood down there, or we could be angry because somebody did something bad or we're going through crappy circumstances.
Yeah, if anyone says that to me I would get very annoyed (thing is, guys in my class are very immature and barely know what periods are so luckily they never say that to me or any other girls) but if someone did say that, the next time they get angry I'd just be like "weLL sOmEoNeS oN tHEir pEriOd"
Same. I dont typically get mood symptoms. If I am short-tempered, it's from a bad bout of cramps. I think most people get snippier when they're in pain.
People have different PMS symptoms. It is annoying when people lump PMS-ing women as emotional wrecks that can be appeased by a little chocolate. I admit i can be a bit snappish at times, but it doesn’t mean i’m on my period or that giving me a bar of chocolate will make my righteous anger magically disappear.

Not sure why this is popping up a year later but im glad they included a moon cup. Ive used one for years & never looked back, life changing. Probably saved a decent amount not buying disposable products, which are disgusting when you think about it & the waste it generates. But i remember them making me sore & irritated :( the silicone cups are so much more comfortable. Just takes a little getting used to in the beginning.
@@sarahmcm5559 it's definitely weird at the beginning. I found at first putting it in and taking it out could be complicated. As it's supposed to suction to your walls to prevent leakage the first day or so the pressure was unusual (but no different than how the first time using a tampon is unusual). And it takes a bit of practice to figure out how to get the cup into place correctly. As for taking it out, I've found the trick is to break the suction before you pull it out by pressing it on one side with a finger before grasping the tail. I think it took 2 months for me to really figure it out. But I 100% recommend you try it again, I find it much more comfortable and flexible than other options. I like that I don't need to change it every time I go to the bathroom and can wait until I'm in my own house (barring an unusually heavy flow). And I often forget I'm wearing one and like that's it's not a visceral reminder that I'm on my period every second of the day.

Parents should teach all their children about periods and things like that. It helps avoid awkward situations. Once I was in 6th grade. A lot of the girls had periods at my school by then and I like to think all of them carried around pads, tampons, or menstrual cups. So I have a jansport backpack with 5 pockets. 2 big pockets where I put my books. 1 medium pocket for pencils and pens. I had 2 small pockets. One was higher up and I kept my chapstick, money, school ID cards, and my phone in that pocket. The other pocket was stuffed with pads. Me and my friends always showed up an hour before school and we had 0 period so we were basically alone. We decided to go through each other’s backpacks while we were waiting (which looking back on it is sorta stupid and an invasion of privacy). So we looked at the books, moved on to the pencils and finally we were onto the pads. I said I didn’t want them to look in that pocket because my period was new and the schools didn’t talk about it with us at all. I think the other girls knew what was in there but the guys didn’t. This one guy was pestering me (He’s really nice and was probably just curious). Then he tried to reach and open it and I stopped him. When he asked what was in there In said girl things. He clearly didn’t know what that meant because he kept questioning. He probably thinks I had a vape or something in there :P

I accidentally bought tampons without an applicator here in the US and I couldn't use them. Maybe because I'm not used to them, but I'm also really, really small and need the extra push otherwise I can't get it up there 😅

You can actually get your first period anywhere between 9 and 15; with 11-14 being most common, on rare occasions it could start earlier or later than the aforementioned time frame.
There is also adenomyosis. It's like endometriosis; however, in endometriosis, the uterine lining grows outside of the uterus. With adenomyosis, the uterine lining grows into the uterine muscle. A lot of the same symptoms, including the long, heavy periods, cramping, back pain, etc.
I agree so much that they shouldn't just teach about the biological side of it! They should teach about hormones too and what they do with your mood. They also could compare it to the male hormone cycle so the average boy would understand better. If they're really good they could also teach about transgender people's hormones and periods... If my kid will not learn all this in school, I will teach it! 💪
"What do you think they cost?" "They should be free..." * crying quietly * In Germany it's not that long ago we had to pay luxury taxes for this shit *fecking luxury taxes*
That’s not actually what endometriosis is. Just some of the symptoms. Endometriosis is where tissue like the lining of the womb grows in places it shouldn’t. It can cause heavy and painful periods, but it’s much more serious than just that.
Preach! I've had it for around 11 years now, definitely more than "just" painful periods. In fact one of the "alarm bells" that went off for me that signaled that something was NOT RIGHT, was that I was experiencing PMS-like symptoms (which have gotten worse over the years and doesn't even feel like pms anymore) when my period wasn't even due.
I would question the fact that it's mostly male doctors who don't care about endometriosis. In my experience, the men I've seen have been sympathetic & eager to help. The worst treatment always came from female doctors. The worst was a female gynae who said endo wasn't a big deal & I should just suck it up! This was after I'd had a period for 2 years non-stop & had needed a blood transfusion because the anaemia got so bad despite being on iron tablets. I was also on strong opioids for pain. My GPs have always been fantastic, male & female, apart from one I grew up with. According to her, I never had anything wrong with me. Even when I saw her after I'd just been discharged from hospital following emergency surgery, she claimed I was making it all up & refused to take the letter the hospital told me to give her. She refused to prescribe the meds the hospital gave me (they only give you a couple of days supply in hospital, with the understanding your GP will give more). I had to go back to the consultant at the hospital to ask for a prescription & he was so mad at the GP he rang her to complain. I was told to leave the GP practice after that, & found an amazing clinic who look after you so well. I've been with them for over 10 years now & can't find a single fault with them.
I'm glad that you were lucky enough to find good male docs. Unfortunately it seems like endo has been shown as not so bad to everyone who doesn't have it so it influences both. Where I struggle is getting a referral. Male family docs tend not to get much about this stuff in my opinion. I even just asked for birth control to help my really bad pain and he told me that it probably wasn't as bad as I was making it out to be. Hoping to drop him.
You've got a bad doctor there. How easy is it to change? Everyone deserves quality healthcare & doctors are the ones to provide it. He is failing you & his profession by not taking your illness seriously. Find a better doctor as soon as possible. You shouldn't have to live without treatment. Please listen to someine who is, without a doubt, older than you & probably more disposed to fight for myself. I reached a point when I was fed up of everyone telling me what to do so became very assertive. When you have endo, or any chronic illness & your doctor isn't on your side, you have to fight for yourself. Tell your doctor you're leaving & find a better one. I dont know if you're part of an online support group. If you're not, find one in your country & ask for doctor recommendations. I'm sure there will be others in your town who can help you. Endo sisters stick together closer than our adhesions. (Sorry, bad joke.) 😉 The pill did nothing for me, nor the Mirena iud. The only thing that helped was being on Prostap for 18 months. It was hell, with bad side effects & it caused a relapse in another chronic health problem I have. A couple of months after that finished I had excision surgery, & ended up pretty much pain free for about 5 years. It's back again, but nowhere near as severe as before, so I have refused treatment. I get pain for maybe 5 days a month & I already take strong opioids for something else, so it's manageable. The only thing that upsets me is that doctors all told me it would go when I hit the menopause. That happened about 3 years ago, yet I still get pain. At least it's not as bad as it was 15 years ago. I wouldn't want to go through that hell again. Take care of yourself. 🙂 Edit: repeated first sentence so I removed it.
Hey, I've been having my period non-stop like for a month, or even 2/3 months, my doctor said I might have endometriosis. I also take iron tablets and have anemia and I also had a blood transfusion. But I don't think it's endometriosis cuz it doesn't hurt, like the whole time I would not get cramps, or get angry, emotional or anything like that. Btw I'm almost 15
@@_bandito. Endometriosis doesn't always cause pain. It can do, & it can range from mild to all-consuming, never-ending pain, like mine, or you can have no symptoms at all. The problem is that no 2 women have the same symptoms which is one of the reasons why it's difficult to diagnose. It can also cause infertility which is why you need to listen to your doctor. Some people only find they have it when they can't get pregnant & go for testing. You're very lucky that you have a doctor who's listened & is concerned. Most of my endo friends, like me, had symptoms when we were young, but back in our day our doctors said it was impossible to get under the age of 30. I wonder if your doctor is young, as I'm sure recent medical training has improved knowledge for newly qualified doctors so they understand it can affect women of all ages once they've hit puberty. The estrogen that kicks in strongly with puberty feeds it. For this reason, limiting foods that promote estrogen can help. Please, if your doctor recommends testing, accept it. It's better to catch it early because treatment can help. Some people respond to the pill, others to a hormonal coil, others to injections like I had, others need surgery. However it can only be managed if you let your doctor help you. To be diagnosed, you'll need an operation, but it's not a big one. They'll make 2 tiny holes in your abdomen, usually one low down, just above the pelvis & the other in your naval. They'll puff your stomach up with gas to provide room to move a small camera. This is the only way to get an accurate diagnosis &, even then, if the endometrial deposits are tiny, less experienced doctors won't see them; this means a negative diagnosis isn't always definitive. Sometimes they'll cut away any deposits they see when they're inside but most times they'll leave them & try you on other treatments first. Recovery is quick because it's not as invasive as cutting you open from side-to-side like they used to do. It didn't hurt me, except for when I laughed for about a week afterwards, because I was given adequate pain relief. If you want to discuss it more, or you want advice or anyone to talk to, feel free to ask me. I'd also recommend finding an online support group based in your country. If you like, I'll find one for you & post it on here. It would help you to talk to people your own age who have it. The site I used had a few girls your age & younger who'd finally been diagnosed after their parents complained & pushed for a diagnosis. One had even had symptoms since she was 10 years old. My Mum had problems your age, luckily I started with pain in my late 20s, although I'd had other problems since my periods started. You're not alone in this. There are women worldwide who will support you, & it sounds like your parents care too, since you're seeing a doctor. 🙂
I'm so glad we went to a girl's grammar school. It was so much more open, so when I got my period (aged 12) I knew exactly what it was. Introverted as he'll so I kept it a secret from even my mum for atleast a month before she discovered I was throwing away bloodied underwear (didn't know how to clean them). One of my worst experiences was going to Whales with my school for Gold DofE. I had packed my ibuprofen in the rucksack in the trailer and my mini bus was driven by 2 male teachers. I had to wait until we got to Whales (from East Kent) to ask a female teacher if she had any. She then loudly proclaimed to the entire group "does anyone have any painkillers, Beccy's got cramps". Couldn't even enjoy my chip dinner.

They can be rather expensive, especially if you have a heavier period that lasts for longer than 6 days and you live with multiple people who will most probably get their periods at the same time as you (and not everyone has that kind of money to just throw away in the form of a pad each month)

I had that in France too, and Cola was a necessity product at the time... what the hell were they thinking.
tbf, compared to the reusable menstrual cup, it could be a bit more luxury.
But yeah, should be like any sort of medicine.
Yes I agree she could have actually explained what endo was.

I think most people get snippier when they're in pain.
it makes me very angry that some men tend to think that women can only get angry when on their period.
People have different PMS symptoms. It is annoying when people lump PMS-ing women as emotional wrecks that can be appeased by a little chocolate. How were you in the beginning? I've made an attempt to use one but it was so difficult to put in and take out I don't know if I could try again

(Sorry, bad joke.) 😉
The pill did nothing for me, nor the Mirena iud.
Edit: repeated first sentence so I removed it.
@@angelaburrow8114 thanks, I'd really like to meet other girls that have it, I live in Italy btw. The surgery stuff is scaring me so much oml.
HE IS A KING, he knows quite a lot and the rest, he is willing to learn
You have won the boyfriend lottery with this one
Where is _Whales_ ? And how tf did you do a DoE if you don’t even know the country is called Wales? 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
