    That was a massive piece of wood and it turned out great. Interesting that something that size was made as a solid blank (massively heavy) instead of a segmented piece, which would have saved wood and weight. I've done that before myself with pedestal tables, but I've never turned something that massive. Scary!! Walnut is such a pleasure to turn. Really love the figure in the finished product. Thanks for sharing this!

    My heart tightened when I saw the drawing; it was so plain and uninspired. But the final blank was much better. I'm still a beginner woodturner, and I can't imagine turning something that enormous. (Also because I'm a bit of a science nerd and understand how much more momentum comes from the diameter and no just the insane mass.) Beautiful work as always!

    Nice job on the pedestal. Turning large pieces has it own problems. I honestly don't know if it would make any difference but I would have staggered the joints in that blank when gluing it up but that's just me.

  • @davenicholson3491

    Very nice ! Must take a lot of practice and skill to form those radiuses.

    • @thomasarussellsr
      @thomasarussellsr 4 роки тому

      Some skill, yeah. But turning something that size is more a matter of nerve. Takes guts to tackle the big stuff like that. Even she gaf-taped the heck out of it.
      Oh, and it takes a rather sizable lathe. My 12x38 couldn't even mount that blank. I mean, the head-stock turns, on mine, but with out a tail to help support it? Heck no!

  • @MrJohnnaz
    @MrJohnnaz 4 роки тому

    Nice job turning that huge blank.
    I'm just wondering if the blank could have been "coopered" up, instead of a solid piece as something that large is quite likely to crack in the future.
    I have turned a few table pedestals myself, (probably in the hundreds) with an old converted metal lathe, most of them had fancy fluting that was cut with a big 3 HP Porter-Cable router mounted to the Lathe. Have turned quite few porch columns on the same lathe as well.

    Hi from Australia 🤗 This is absolutely amazing the process and planning that goes into this. The very first video I watched of you turning was your first big turn for the family that wanted the large round table to hand down in the family the one when you got to visit them and the table at there home. I thought that was amazing did realise that it could be so dangerous. I have a question when you glue the wood together can it over the years come apart if so how do you prevent it? Thank you for sharing I think what you do is awesome

    That was most enjoyable. Love the respect given for such a large turning. That little bracket behind the tailstock; - very clever, super idea, well done. If you would be so kind and share a little information on that face shield/respirator system. That looks a really neat piece of kit, I'm doing a little research and undecided which one to consider. Thank you Ashley, Ireland sends good luck & blessings.

    Unable to sleep at 4 in the morning, stumbled onto the Borolo video, now I've watched a few, I gotta say, I'm smitten!!!! After 20 plus years woodworking, half the same turning, and I almost never see women in this industry, let alone such a beautiful and interesting, talented and intelligent woman!!!! I didn't see a ring on any finger, I recently became a jewelry maker as well as artist and musician, my new purpose is to design, cast and put a ring on that finger. Tell me if there's an incredibly lucky partner in your life before I fall for you completely woman!!!!
    Thank you for posting all you have, its renewed my love for turning!
