Caravan & truck internet options Star Link why not check out Cowfish Technologies

- As full time travellers staying connected to family, friends and the internet is important. Star Link is definitely a worthy purchase but we don't want to lock into contracts when we have such a limited budget. We were lucky enough to be contacted by Cowfish Technology & asked to try out the 5G prototype on our caravan & truck. We hope you join us & discover Karls findings.

Hey Guys, FINALLY, someone has put in simple, easy to understand terms, a great explanation. Have been researching, watching videos, asking questions from "tech experts" etc for quite some time. And yes, have considered many options. Your setup sounds like the ideal one for us also. So from wife and I....THANK you VERY much ! Safe travels.
Hi Peter,
We are happy to have helped you in your decision. Thanks for watching. 👍
Cheers, karl & katty
Hi guys looking good, thankyou for that i was looking for some info for Cowfish .
Cheers all the Best
That’s great, I hope it helped.
Mention us if you intend on purchasing one, and they may give you some discount 👍
Awesome episode as always 😊 beautiful place 😊 Thanks for sharing 👍🏼 Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thanks Yusuf….. we have some great new surprises coming in the next few episodes😀🇦🇺
You find that Telstra tower are going to 5 g,it a shame that cow fish does not make a aerial that is only one cable, instead of 4 cables,it only a matter of time as technology gets better ,good video.
The Cowfish router is available with available 5G option. Yes, a single cable would be much easier to handle and install.
Cheers, karl
Interesting
Thanks Ian. We are happy with the system.
Great informative video Karl, we have the Netgear M6 haven’t had any problems yet except for reception in some areas but have to work on that, fyi where are you currently located. Thanks Tim & Sharon
Hi Tim,
You can get a mini Omni antenna that will work with the Netgear. It will improve you reception.
Currently in Bundaberg 👍
Karl, we will be down that way in a few weeks, our daughter lives in Childers and we are in Eli Waters, will touch base when we are closer, it would be great to catch up.
Hi Tim,
We will be leaving for Vic shortly, and will be down there for about 2 months, so we will catch-up another time 👍
hi Karl, what beach are you on whilst do the cow fish review, very beautiful
Gday Kerry,
We were at Crystal Creek Beach, about 60 km north of Townsville 😀
Just to ask the dumb question: If you are waaay off grid, where there is zero mobile signal (e.g. crossing the Simpson) then this is of no value, and the only answer is StartLink. So this is useful where the mobile signal is only (say) 1 bar, and this unit can boost it up to something usable?
What percentage of your time camping around Australia do you think you spend where there is zero mobile signal?
Thanks - David
Hi David,
You are exactly right, if there is no signal at all, then there is nothing. If there is something ( it may even not register on your phone) then this is your best chance.
Where we have been in the last 3.5 years, we have had signal 85 to 90% of the time.
Cheers
Looks like good tech, and certainly seems to be infinitely better than Celfi, however it's limitation will always be the need for a mobile network to "boost" that signal to have an achievable outcome. Whilst the Starlink certainly isn't the be all and end all, it's reliance on only a need for a clear unobstructed view of the sky and ease of setup, means that it would have an edge in those more obscure remote places, but it will always be dependent on each persons particular circumstances. Seems like it will be a great setup for you guys and what you do, and kudos to someone for coming up with something that they've obviously put some thought into.
Yes, you are correct. One thing I totally dislike about Starlink is that they have the monopoly on the whole system. They can do whatever they like with prices and plan alterations etc. the mobile starlink system is the lowest of their offerings - first to get cut if the system is being overloaded.
👍
@@nowhereboundtouring yeah it's hard as they've got a monopoly that realistically, no one is going to challenge anytime soon.
👍
sorry maatee I've had all the Telstra boosters but nothing compares with Starlink, u park up anywhere in oz and you have internet and mobile all up anywhere with 100% connectivity
True, if having reception 98% of the time is important, and you are willing to pay for it, then Starlink is the only choice. If you don’t want the ongoing high costs, and can accept no reception in remoter areas, then Cowfish is the next best thing.
Cheers, karl.
@@nowhereboundtouring Karl i expect 100% connectivity anytime 150 mbps + download and 15 mbps uploads and if it cost me $174 mobile every month I can live with that anyhow, luv ya vids would luv to catch up one day on our travels
150 mbps download is fast 👍
Cool, Whats that worth to buy thanks
Hi Craig,
It depends what antenna options you get, but about $1500
Brilliant info! Thanks. The 5G network is growing, so expect to get more 5G.
I'd love to see some speed tests at the different locations.
Do you know if the Cowfish supports more than one SIM concurrently? I'm thinking of Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone SIMS. I know 99% will be with Telstra, but that 1% might be a very important 1%!
Hi Ben,
The system only supports one sim.
We did do lots of speed tests, with the network being the big variable in the one location. Best download 5G speed we saw with the directional antennas, about 30km from the tower was 70MBs, and 4G was 40MBs. The
The average 4G download was around 25MBs, but this is all mostly related to the network load. The reading varied a lot while testing.
Cheers, karl
@@nowhereboundtouring Even 10Mb/s is very usable. Uploading videos will be your biggest concern, but for us, it sounds like it will be fine. At work we use Telstra tower maps to work out if coverage is available, so while travelling, we should be able to predict if we will have coverage or not at a certain location. This is good!!! Thank you guys for being our trail blazers.
Hey Ben,
We have found generally( esp in QLD) even if the coverage is good, that is not the case for data transfer. The towers are completely overloaded and doing anything is very limited. At a guess I would say 50% of the time it is ok, or as you would expect according to the signal strength. The other 50% of the time it varies between poor and zero. I.e you can’t watch anything or can not upload an email with a few photos attached. Watching a UA-cam video is hit and miss. Sometimes ok, other times you can not watch.
Other states seem to be better generally.
This is our experience during our travels. Remote areas are totally different of course.
Cheers, karl
@@nowhereboundtouring Thanks Karl. I imagine the carriers design towers for high utilisation to get maximum bang for buck and when demand exceeds these settings, congestion ensues. Probably QLD has more interstate visitors this time of the year. Its bloody cold down here!
Ive got netgear its in van i turn it off with the tv and chrome cast when i go to work in morning , but once in a blue moon turning it all back on when i get home the netgear needs a restart or a power disconnect its to reboot it bloody strange
Yes, we had lots of similar issues with it. It worked… ok….. but had issues.
Cheers
@@nowhereboundtouring yer it's great when working but a headache to get back working tho
Yep, we found the Cowfish system much better, and more stable with no issues.
Yer star link is loody experience
Yes, to costly for us in our current life……

I don’t understand ????
