Great video there! Been watching you for awhile now, and really enjoy your work you put in with fitness and all. I'm a U.S.Army (Airborne Infantryman) veteran who served in the mid 80s. Bhanu pratap singh my first piece of advice is to focus on how many miles you run. Don’t focus on time at first, just get your miles in. Secondly, you should do speed work. 400 repeats, 800 repeats, 200 repeats. This will help build your speed up.
I'm 64, 32,000+ miles running, and.....had to give it up at 38. YOUR dad= AMAZING. Represents about 1%. MUCH respect to your dad, and you too! I was a complete doubter as to your running ability/Grit- but you stuck with it and more importantly.....ARE a runner. Fantastic times/cardio conditioning for a guy w/ that much mass.
Nice effort! Congratulations on the PR. I’m about your Dad’s age and set a goal of under 6 minutes this summer. I live at 7,000 feet elevation and trained for a over a month. I hit a 5:44 and was pretty happy. I’m now shooting for 5:30. Gott keep moving as we get older!!
If I ran a 6:25 mile at 14 , I would be kicked out from my track team. My friend was running 4:44 mile and I was running 4:54 mile. Not bad but not great
Start including EWOT (Exercise with oxygen therapy) and taking PQQ along with CoQ10 and D-Ribose to improve cardiac output and mitochondria function. Include beetroot extract and l-citrulline as a vasodilator and he will easily achieve his goals. Breathing properly during the run will also help dramatically. “I’m just happy I’m still living” - at 57 Lord willing, you got a long time to live if you’re eating healthy - which I’m sure you are. Keep pushing, no excuses is what I tell myself.
Travis Grill I personally think that is just a mindset people adopt as they age. I’m 56 and honestly I don’t feel much different than I did at 20. A little slower I’m sure but mostly the same. I think as long as you eat healthy, stay lean, and do lots of cardio and resistance training then your 50s are early to be feeling old. But society will tell you you’re old and somehow most people just accept it. For example, a 55 year old starts a running program after 25 years of being sedentary and they start getting a pain in their ankle. They say “screw it, I’m old”... NO, you just aren’t acclimated to exercise.. has nothing to do with age... adjust and push through it. I understand some people have legit issues but even more just give up cause they think their old... /old man rant 😀

6:24 is moving. Props to your father. I'm almost 64, and a little lighter than your pops at 162 pounds, but nowhere near as muscular, and ran my first race in 42 years, a one mile point to point race patterned after the Fifth Avenue Mile. The first quarter mile was a shock to my system, even though I thought I was ready for the fast pace. Thought my heart was going to leap out of my chest. Had to tell myself to relax, breathe, and keep good form, don't panic. Hit the half at 3:25, and managed to eke out a 6:38, so a slightly negative split. I was happy to break 7:00, but now know with a better mileage base and speed training , a sub six minute mile is within reach. I know I had watched this video sometime last year, and am glad it showed up again for me. It's very inspirational.
Hey Nick, I watched your video this morning and completely motivated me man. Loved the Dad and Son thing as well. I am in pretty decent shape. I am 46 and workout about 4 to 5 days a week. Really got into running this year. Stepped it up since the pandemic and running about 9 to 12 miles a week. Today I woke up not really wanting to workout, but after watching your video I got off my ass and ran 3 miles. Started with the warm up as you recommended to get my heart rate up and ran my fastest run in my 40’s. My best pace for 3 miles before today was a 8’50 pace, today I ran a pace of 8’30. Just wanted to let you know Nick your video motivated me to PR a 3 mile run today. Pretty cool. Thanks for the advice and motivation. Oh yeah...your Dad is a stud.
I just started run a week ago. My best 1 mile is still in 12 minutes. I'm so weak and slow, but I'm gonna work for it. My current goal is to reach 1 mile in 7 or 8 minutes. Wish me luck guys.
Good luck. Get a solid base of slow easy mileage. Running fast times comes with preparation . Don't get discouraged if your times don't come down as quickly as you'd like. Let us know your progress!

I'm an old college middle distance runner. You should be very proud, also grateful your dad still runs with you. My Grandpa did the same until he hit 87.
Travis Grill apps and phone trackers don’t allow for interval training or really accurate information. That’s really only a beginner tool ya know, instant feedback is much more helpful and becomes crucial later on
Devon 27 that’s not instant feedback. When you have to wait until the end of your run to examine any potential information about that run, that information is less useful. It doesn’t help to know that you were going too fast on your run until after you’ve completed it
Well done to your auld man. I'm 58 yr old and absolutely love running. This video of son and his dad inspired me to give this a go today. I did it in 6 mins 12 secs. Mind you, Im no where near ripped / shredded like your dad, he is ripped to shreds. I've being trying the Maffetone method recently, so decided to have a bit of fun today and just go for it.
Hi Gemel. The idea with the maffetone method is basically. You run super super slow at a slow heart rate. Instead of the usual 220 you do 180 minus your age that’s your max HR take 10 off that gives your your bottom line HR, yeh I know virtually walking pace for some people. At 58 I’m at 112-122bpm, if your top number is still too slow that your still walking you can increase it by no more than 5bpm. The thinking behind it is that even though it’s walking pace and you will end up walking sometimes, you concentrate on staying in between them two figures and forget your speed. After 1-3 months as we are all different you should see that your speed slowly but surely starts to increase but your HR stays at them low numbers, eventually you should be able to run at your normal pace but at that much lower HR. You can see now that you will then have plenty of scope to increase your HR if you want. You need to be super disciplined to do this as lots of people pass you and if like me you love running at your normal pace, it will be exceptionally hard to let people pass you and not respond. I haven’t being doing it long enough really for it to be the reason why I was able to run a mile at that pace, that’s more likely because I absolutely love running and have run for years and I’m always out running in the hills. But I’m giving it a go as I can see the idea behind it. But it is hard when people go past me and I’m shuffling along not to respond. BTW I read your story, nice keep up the great work.
that's fricken awesome. at 61 my best mile is 6:58. I needed to see this. great inspiration. Your father and I have a similar background and current athletic interests. Great job. You no doubt must be proud of your father.

Get him a few sessions with a track coach so that he gets off his jogging knee pounding style to a smoother stride. Keep up the good work
I noticed that too. He was clunking, not from being tired just from form. He could trim some time off with just improving his form/stride.
Easy peasy.
Needs to lose weight but his age is against him.. a fartlek session once a week.. and several 20mins runs at 75% of your max & 75% bpm.. plus the change of diet obviously .. I reckon he could do 5.50.. comfortably!
He’s tight. He needs to stretch out his psoas muscles. That will do wonders for his stride.
@@DaMan478 ye that makes sense.. would he be better spending 50% of his time stretching.. acupressure.. and swim running.. ?
I love your dads pink ribbon tattoo, says a lot about how much he loved your mom, respect

I just turned 53 and hope I'm in as good as shape as him when I'm 57. He's an inspiration and a fucking STUD! P.S. my family is from Pa that's what makes him a badass.
Nick looks so fluid compared to his family it looks like he's jogging at 5 miles an hour and they look like they are actually running 11 miles per hour
hes taller and has long legs. Hes doing less steps to cover the same distance
Yeah check out Kipchoge
Nick has learned a lot about running since iron man prep, This is all about his consistent training and form corrections. Building that aerobic base is so essential.
Super noticeable how good form is.
Years in the military and his running coach helped him too. It has nothing to do with height
Ur dad is in the same shape as me and I’m 19 hope I look like tht when I’m 57 really inspiring

Loving the new content style. Kudos to your dad. "I just happy i'm still livin'" really resonates with me.
Watching your dad crush my 1-mile PR by 19 seconds when I'm half his age. Respect and Awe!
Much! Much! Much! Respect! Your dad did excellent! All of you are good together as a team. I am 54 and running 11 min/mile. Congrats to your dad!!! inspiring for me at 55 years. I just started running
I just hit my first ever Sub-6 mile today! Started running again 1 week ago!
5:48
Height: 5' 4"
Weight: 146.1
Age: 21
keep it up. In 6 months of consistent training, you could easily hit a 5 minute mile!
Dude I have almost the same statistics as you. Height 5'4'', Weight 150. My current 1 mile PR is 7:35. How did you train for sub-6 mile?
Great work dude!
Give me some tips ??? Any ..?
Everyone is struggling and you're just like this is a easy jog for me lol
You’re inspiring me man! 45 here and I threw down a sub 7 min time trial few weeks ago at 200 lbs!
Impressive. You're a fairly big guy at 200lbs. Much respect.
We Clydesdale runners don't have it easy! Well done.
IMO your dads 1-mile pace would be impressive for any age, let alone 57 years old. Very impressive!
Not really….
I'm a health coach with 27 years in the health and fitness industry!
Thanks
Mad props to your beast of a father for building such an incredible son. It's the stuff America is built on and continues to be made of.
“I’m just happy I’m still living” - at 57 Lord willing, you got a long time to live if you’re eating healthy - which I’m sure you are. Keep pushing, no excuses is what I tell myself.
The mind is willing but the flesh is weak ;)
@@Psalm146-2 I agree the body needs time to adapt when you restart fitness training in your forties or beyond. The cardiovascular system, Knee joints, hips, wrists all can have miraculous healing and strengthening abilities if you keep applying a safe consistent overload stress. Just takes more time and an intelligent workout programme as you get older.
@@Psalm146-2 I agree with you completly. I did not train from 16 to 22 and when I started to train I felt so weak but never gave up and now at nearly 25 I feel the best I ever felt
Preston looks like he is dying through this entire run lol. Good job guys!
Well done Dad..Inspirational!! yehey for all Dads!..I'm 54 and still do backflips, still do dirt jumping on MTB, still surf and train capoeira..Age is just a number..
Nice job men. Awesome father and son. A great role model for the rest of us.

I am sure that your Dad will reach 100 Years MileStone & He is the inspirational to everyone in the world & Congrats

I just started run a week ago. My best 1 mile is still in 12 minutes. I'm so weak and slow, but I'm gonna work for it. My current goal is to reach 1 mile in 7 or 8 minutes. Wish me luck guys.
Good luck! I got like 8.5 mile for first trial. Hope I reach 7 minute in a few month

I'm an old college middle distance runner. You should be very proud, also grateful your dad still runs with you. My Grandpa did the same until he hit 87.
You guys are awesome...beautiful thing to watch a Father & Son compete against each other
He needs a GPS watch to track his runs!!!
There's a free app called RunKeeper you can use to track your activities too. It's fairly accurate I use it for my trailing running and hiking :D
Travis Grill apps and phone trackers don’t allow for interval training or really accurate information. That’s really only a beginner tool ya know, instant feedback is much more helpful and becomes crucial later on
Trevor Murphy Polar are the best company for tracking all fitness related stuff lol

Wow that’s incredible time Roy! What is the Maffetone Method?
Plenty of interesting comments below the main article.
