850's are even more underrated imo. Better looks, functionality, interior lives longer and first 5zyl car. Prove that the 850 is more underrated is that many people think the s60 is.
This video is perfect for anyone who wants to buy and modify a S60. We have 5 S60R’s (4 that are road legal and not a parts car) and all of them have stage 0-1.5/2 done to them. Can’t wait to see more content!
Thanks a ton for stopping by and watching the video! Having 5 S60R’s is pretty impressive. We’ve thought about getting one at some point; either a S60R or V70R!😎
@@WhipGetters you should get an R! The only issue we’ve ran into with R’s (other than normal well known issues) is the front right axle for the manual (m66) trans is stupid expensive to replace ($700+ depending on what site you go to). In our fleet, we’ve gone thru 2 of them already.
Oof! There’s a lot on R’s that are a little scary to replace and costs. But what we’ve realized is that if you’re a Volvo person, there’s no going back regardless of that model you get or have!🤣
Your recommendation on doing the manufacturer maintenance is spot on. Personally I'm satisfied with the performance of Volvo so my mods would mostly be cosmetic. a sensuous wide body kit, flowmaster exhaust, flush assassin rims & matching tires.
Couldn't agree more with the stage 0 before you start adding power. I have a stage 2 (350bhp) v70 2.4 T5. It is tuned by shemtek (u.k based) and he always recommends stage 0 before tuning. A brief explanation of this would be -Plugs and coils. My car had the original coils on and after I tuned it, each one was dropping one after the other. I replaced them all for genuine in the end. -Pcv system replacement. Expensive using genuine parts but prevents your cam seals and crank seals leaking in the first place. Also a bad pcv can cause maf error codes which can upset a tuned car -replace all the one way valves on the engine and check for boost leaks from pipes and the turbo inlet pipe. -replace tcv (turbo control valve) if its old as these commonly go wrong on higher mileage volvos Like the dude in the video says, tuning volvos ain't cheap, especially if you want the job doing right. But it's soooo worth it 👌
What part of the uk you from bro?? I need help with some basics on my 2.4i S40.. If you could help or know someone who can that would be awesome! You got any social media??
I have an 04 VR. So far, I have a FMIC, upgraded sway bars, coilovers, the swedespeed high flow air filter and have gone through most the entire drivetrain/engine. The PCV system would be the biggest thing to make sure to keep in good shape since that causes oil to be pushed out of your seals.
@@WhipGetters Make sure to get the Genuine Volvo stuff. This is one of those areas you don't go to the aftermarket for. Clean up you throttle body and replace the gasket while you're in there also.
I’m so glad I came across your video, been looking up Volvos for years to get my s60 modified, I love how fast and torquey these cars are but yes indeed only a handful of websites out there n videos showing you how to do shyt, thank you for being one of them and giving us tools and recommendations, Your Volvo sounds Sick🔥
We’ll have plenty, plenty more videos out soon about these Volvos that we hope you’ll stop by and enjoy! Thanks for the feedback and we promise to deliver more!😎
great outline on safely modding P2s! we need more content like this. There are actually some very recent tuners entering the p2 community. developing tunes for 04 and 05+ P2s for all trim types. they currently have multiple examples of reliable stage 1 and 2 tunes on the road. stage 3, 3+ and 4 are currently being developed and tested now. some very talented tuners and builders got together and have been working to understand how volvos ME7 engine management system works in great depth. they are not just re-using existing tune files that got passed around and adjusting them...they are developing their own tunes from scratch which is huge. Hilton has been the only option for P2s... but his backlog is like 6-9 months right now which is a bummer. luckily the p2 community will be getting the support its needed very soon!
Thats really good hearing that more people are taking initiative to learn how these cars work. They are a bit quirky and can be very tedious. These cars are amazing and it’s really always good to hear they’re becoming a bigger normal than before! We have our S60 tuned by Hilton on stage 3 and it’s awesome! Can’t wait to see what more we as a car culture can do!
As a B5234 owner, I would add that PCV should be changed. Also all the TCV (Turbo valve stuff) should be replaced as vacuum leaks will wreak havoc on the performance of these cars.
Soon after this video, the PCV system on ours was changed! It was clogged and it was ruthless! Our next and final video about modifying these cars will include this!😎
No oil leaks , but there is a power steering leak which I have all the parts for,the lower cat has been removed as well, aftermarket fan mounting straps ruined my radiator I believe, I want it running right now, love this car
I just found your channel and subbed 🤘 I own a 2000 V70 T5 Geartronic with about 311.000 Miles (500.000 km) for over 5 years now. It has been a learning curve... But there is a lot of information about these engines out there, just well hidden🤫 What i have learned so far : 2.4 and 2.5 engines need to be shimmed! Even stock the cilinderwalls tend to crack at the top. It is a lot of work but in parts it's only the shims and a gasket-set for the head. The 2.3 engine's (like i have) don't have that issue😁 All of the engines have oil seals in the sump that are critical for the oil pressure, replace them for oem and have one less thing to worry about. They all have a PCV system, replace only for the ones that have Volvo stamped on the bags😉. The sets cost a bit more but i have had trouble with good branded others causing my camseals to blow out and leaving me with an oil soaked timing belt, happy days 🥳 For sparkplugs only use - i know i am repeating myself a bit now - Volvo original sparkplugs. These engines just love them ❤. When changing the timingbelt make sure the waterpump has a metal fan (is that what you call the part that pushes the coolant??). There seem to be pumps with a plastic fan and according to the forums those can break in time. As for the oilcooler on the back of engine, the one that was leaking on your S60, try to find a bigger one. They are sold for crazy money by "performance" brands but the very same bigger ones were used on -i think- certain XC90 engines and those have the same fitment. And ofc do a good quality oil, oilfilter, fuelfilter, airfilter, coolant, ignition coils(oem) and your engine is good to go! Radiators with the plastic sides, vacuümhoses, enginemounts, original plastic air and pressure piping are all weaknesses with age. Changing the rods for H-beam rods seems to be the general advice if you want to take the tuning seriously, a path into the mist i am about to take 🥴. Now the limit will be our automatic gearboxes, from what i understand it's critical to have an extra cooler for the oil and to have the tune not go flat-out in first and second gear and she will be able to take a beating. But i haven't found any numbers on how much they can really take. I hope my essay here helped anyone out there, my rambling is pure from my experience and in no form do i claim to know it all so please do comment if you (the reader) disagree. These Volvo 5 cilinder engines are something else..... 🥰
Also if your engine runs a bit rough, has starting issues and/or has poor gas mileage it's likely that the coolant temperature sensor (near the thermostat) needs to be changed. It is often overlooked when diagnosing a problem bc scanning software usually doesn't pick up on the bad sensor and the gage on the dashboard isn't effected by it. The gage shows a temp calculation by the ecu. From what i understand the gage also isn't very precise and can't be fully trusted.
You have put a majority if not all of our experiences with these cars into words that are pretty difficult to explain! We really appreciate your support upon finding our channel, but we also truly appreciate your knowledge.👍 Thank you for teaching us some things as well as giving us next steps for our build. We hope we can bring more Volvo content that you’ll like!🤙
Thank you! I'm Dutch and i am on (i think you call it) benefits as my right shoulder has been upgraded with a steel ball joint and i am no longer able to work. Wrenching results in days of pain but helps to keep my sanity. The 850T5 has always been on my bucketlist but i couldn't find an affordable one. So i bought this car "cheap" bc of the mileage as a project car and as a big family car to take on holidays. We have a tiny shed and i have had to do all the work outside with jackstands, handtools and a basic obd plug with a free diagnostic app. I've managed to just keep her running and spread the costs by upgrading only when parts were in need of replacement or if i could find a good deal. There have been times i just wanted to sell her for scrap and be done with it (even recently 😇 ). With the help of a Haynes manual, UA-cam, forums, advice from Volvo specialists and a lot of patience i really got to know my car and overcome every hurdle she's thrown at me thus far 🤞 I just love my Swedish fast brick😂
important not to forget to upgrade your suspension as you add power! get better tires. upgrade bushings. upgrade sways. refresh/upgrade your brakes. its great to push 400+ hp out of a car but if u cant control it, then its worthless.
Just Got A 2013 S60 T5 & Was About To Muffler Delete & Straight Pipe It But Watching This Makes Me Want To Do Stage 0 First 🗣️👌🏽 We Need More Volvo Content!
It’s always good knowing you can start with the performance once the cars been all buttoned up to top tier! We’ll have more Volvo content soon, we’re making sure that all of it is interesting for you all!😎
Thanks for being a faithful viewer! We would love more and more people like you. We know a lot of you want Volvo content and are working to bring a lot in the coming weeks!👍
have had several volvo 5-cyls, never had a turbo, until i got a 2000 s60 2.4 200hp all leather spaceball. One of my first was also removing the last muffler that was brand new haha. Then i cut out the airbox, dont care that i suck warm air, i just wanted the sound. Then i got a stage 1 ecu tune. 250hp, man, it felt like i bought a new car again! after that one spark went out, but before that i checked my injectors. And yeah, the injectors really needed a clean, did a flow test, and none of them where in sync. One of the injectors flowed like 1/3rd of what it should, it was really bad. Changed out that one and flowchecked and cleaned them out with injectorcleaner and a cleaning program on the flowchecker. Anyhow, check your injectors is what i want to say to everybody with this story.
Volvos fuel injectors tell you plenty of things. They sure let you know how expensive they are, but also the severity of how it treats your car when they’re not working correctly. Very good point with the fuel injectors!
A bit of a random question, but are you able to just change the block of the 2.5l s60r to a 2.4 t5 block and keep the other parts of the 2.5? I heard that the 2.5 is prone to cracking when boosting it.
I bought a s40 2.0d 138k on clock. Really not been loved in its life but things are away to change. I'm at stage 0 few leak and egr issues to sort then will be hybrid turbo and water methanol ect. I am currently stage 3 a 2013 civic 1.6 idtec (euro car) I have a 4th gen gtd1244vz being built just now stage 3 52mm compressor ect. I have also just fitted the stage 2 snow performance kit with vc-50 controller i am just waitin on soft hose adapters then will be testing while still on standard turbo stage 1 set up until new parts arrive this week. I also have a custom stage 3 paddle clutch kevtech+organic as they don't make any parts for this eco 60+mpg car that im back engineering to a eco rocket expected mpg is 70+ with a 130% increase in power and torque. Aftwr this i will be moving forward with the s40 beast. Its the car i got for my girl she loves it. I will enjoy being subscribed and watching what you can teach me about this motor. Thank u
We love to see that more people know how amazing these Volvos are. Even with tons of miles they can really to forever when they’re taken care of. Our S60 is a stage 3 big turbo and it has 180,000mi. She’s still chugging along. There’s occasional transmission issues, but it’s typical with the FWD transmissions. We’re expecting to get a transmission cooler soon so it can help with the temperatures! Thanks for subbing and staying tuned in to our adventures!👍
I've got the 2.4i inline 5 in my S40. It's got 130K mi on the clock and I paid a shop to do the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, injectors, brakes & fluid, and a bunch of the suspension (shocks, struts, tie rod ends); all of it at around 120K mi. Serpentine belt is intact, no cracking or fraying, haven't noticed a slip. I *think* I can get to the ignition coils myself without bringing it in for a service. So the million dollar question: is it possible to do crank seals and cam seals without a proper mechanic shop? Is there a way to know yes/no they definitely need to be done? Is this beyond the scope of a shady ree mechanic? Cheers and thanks for the great content!
When we did our crank seals and cam seals at one point and whooooh let us tell you, it was an adventure. BUT not impossible. We had the timing wrong after countless times thinking we fixed it. Just make sure to check your ps and qs, and always try and watch tutorials. There’s plenty of really good ones out there that will help you. The only real way to know if they need to be replaced is oil leaking. There’s no other way to really tell if something’s bad until it shows itself. We appreciate the cheers 🥂 and thank you for behind a supporter of ours!
You’re gonna love the process. On the ups and downs, just remember that the outcome is the most fun! We’re always gonna have Volvo content, we have too much fun making it!😎
I have a 2000 Volvo xc70 with the 2.4t, in 2001 they switched to the newer body, like yours. The two engines have similar specs but are they technically the same exact engine? Both are 2.4ts, I just want to add more power but can’t find anything for my generation
One way you can see is looking on Wikipedia for the Volvo 5 cylinder generations to see if your motor code matches up with the other motor codes. The 2.4t’s are really great motors and can handle a lot. But you just can’t push it to the edge where it will break. There’s a nice middle ground. Our S60 started with 197hp out the box, now it’s upwards of 320-350hp as an estimate!
Ill leave this comment so i can get some help picking an exhaust from all that read this. Ive got a 06 C70 T5. Im looking for a medium sound, not too loud and not too quiet, with pops and rasp. I still need to pass inspection so a cat delete is a no. Thanks for the help
Good basic info, everyone forgets stage 0 before mods. Also those new to modding should also consider supporting mods besides power adders. Adding 150 hp means nothing if your transmission hasn't been looked over, same goes for brakes and suspension. Did this on my IS with no regrets. Spent more $ on brakes, suspension, transmission than i did power adders because power means nothing if you cant get it to the ground or control it.
I have a 2014 volvo v40 T5 2.5 R-design, with 35k miles on it, i want to chip it and get a downpipe what should i do first? Are there big differences between my T5 and the older ones? Eventually i want the car atleast at stage 2😁 The car is completely checked and Just had a service. You have any recommodations on what i should do first to get a better sound and performance?
I would do your downpipe or exhaust first! Cause then when you chip it, you’ll be able to tune it for the downpipe and probably get more for your desire! 2014 is a P3 platform and they’re very different from early and original P2 chasis ones like ours. If you’re wanting sound, do exhaust. Then we guarantee once you do that, you’ll be hooked and wanting more!😎
got a v70r cheapest one in the uk its at 190k miles first list of stuff vvt,s cambelt kit coil on plug /spark plugs it had the wrong ones fitted tcv shocks (4c was trashed i got a set of bc racing coilovers tho i will say to others even in soft mode there very firm and firmis basicly track firm so if you can find oem spec struts thoes are better for road use ) bushes lower suspention arms injectors alot more to do but these are 20 year old cars at this point so all the little things that have been missed over the years add up
Small things you wouldn’t think about changing will always give you a headache later on!🤣 we’ve ran into that problem many of times with both of our Volvo’s.
I think you got a bad S60 bro. My 2005 T5 is at 247000 miles now with D088 intercooler, Snabb downpipe, 6spd manual trans swap, moderate tune , intake. Very reliable.
What's up friend!!! First of all I want to thank you very much for bringing this type of professional content, since there is not much formal information about tuning Volvos. Secondly, I also want to thank you for taking the time to answer each of the comments on this video, really thank you very much for supporting this community. I would like to ask for your advice on the small project that I have in mind, I have an automatic volvo s60 2007, sadly in my country (Mexico) manual volvos s60 and R are practically non-existent, and although I love the car, the engine, its incredible sound and His performance wanted to know if it is feasible to tune the car even if it is automatic, or what would be the limit of the transmission. For example I could do the remapping and get the power up to 300Hp, however I don't know if the transmission would hold. I have also seen some things about intakes and I have seen that the vast majority put blue (snaab) however I wanted to know if it is possible to create one from another material, a personalized one since shipping is quite expensive for snaab. I have many doubts about whether to start the project or whether to look for another platform like a 350z or something like that.
We both want to say thank you for all the good vibes you’re throwing our way! We really appreciate you supporting us while we try and bring better and better content everyone’s way and push Volvos to a higher standard. And about your project, depending if you car has a turbo or not, you can modify the car either way to a certain point. There have been plenty of people modify the N/A cars. This can range anywhere from having an exhaust, custom intake piping, porting and polishing the intake manifold, and sometimes even a tune. With turbos it’s a different story. With turbo Volvos you can do a tone more. Tuning, intake piping to aluminum, bigger turbo, injectors, ignition coils, downpipe, transmission cooler, and much more! As you stated, the transmissions in the non T5s and Rs are hard to hold some power. They’re basically glass if you’re not careful with them, we’ve been there done that… a lot of the turbo models can hold anywhere from 300hp to 350hp reliably if you have the supportive mods and you DON’T launch the car from a dig in automatic transmissions. The automatic Volvos don’t really agree with launching from a stand still position. This can overtime or even a couple of times ruin the transmission very quickly!😮💨 As long as you keep your maintenance and care for this car no matter model or engine, it should take care of you for how long you want. Our S60 2.5t has 179,000 miles and it’s a stage 3 big turbo. We’ve had some rough bumps in the road to that complete stage, but giving the car what it needs to maintain it, has gotten us that far! Hopefully some of this info helps. If you need anything more don’t be afraid to ask!😎👍
@@WhipGetters Something else, do you know if it is possible to increase the size of the wheels of a s60 2007 T5 2.4? It is currently about 17'' but I would like to put some 19'' vossen h5, however I don't know if it is adequate or better I should stay at 18'' safely.
It’s really down to preference. 19”s might be pushing a little closer to rubbing. It also comes down to tire size too. If you want 19”s it’s possible to run if you have a super thin tire. There’s a lot of variations that you could do in order to make them work!👍
So my first car when I passed my test many moons ago was a 850r t5 with the manual gearbox I absolutely loved it. Fell in love with the 5 pot sound so bought a fiat coupe 20v turbo as well also 5 pot so then went upto 6 cylinders and bought a r33 gtst I had all the cars at the same time and I'd choose the volvo and fiat over the skyline any day and I don't know why as the r33 was my dream car. I don't own any of them anymore the t5 and skyline I wrote off. However I've just bought a volvo s60 2.5t because it was cheap and I've done it again the sound has sucked me in I was supposed to be selling it straight away but I don't think I can and now I want another fiat coupe too 😂 sooooo I think I'm going to sell some of my other cars to get the fiat. My wife is going to be furious 😂😂😂
Sometimes when it comes to cars there’s always that one influence that will make you want to turn to another car brand. There’s something about these 5 cylinder motors that we just can’t get enough of! We’re glad your sticking with the 5s because they’re just so unique!😎
@WhipGetters unfortunately today I've noticed it's using all of its coolent : ( pretty sure it's going to be the dreaded cracked liner. Be a shame to scrap it. Sods law
Just wondering about the exhaust, you mentioned a 3" straight pipe, is that 3" turbo back, with decat and muffler delete and single exit?? If that's the case, do you suffer from drone at all, if so at which RPM range? I have a Ford Mondeo 2.5T (UK) with the next gen B5254T3 engine with 3.5" down pipe, down to a 3" decat and a 14" straight through centre resonator with rear muffler delete which then splits into 2.5" dual exit after the rear subframe and it drones between 2.5 and 3k revs, just wondered if it's the car, engine or exhaust setup..
The car has a single exhaust. Full 3” off turbo back. No resonators, no mufflers, no silencers or cats. Drone really isn’t bad in the car. It probably is the worst on highway rides from 60-80mph. Other than that the odd firing pattern of the 5 cylinder and the turbo doesn’t make it drone like you’d think! A lot can do with exhaust noise as far as engine modifications too. That’s a whole other book of things, but mainly it’s just the exhaust!😎 We hope this helps!
I come from JDM particularly 3000gt's never thought id like a volvo, but got that itch to get a c30 and my lord i love that little hatchback. Though im knee deep in an engine build for my 3000gt. But im atleast going stage 2 with my c30 once the 3000gt is sorted out (its basically a full blown race car at this point) and Its really expensive to mod as well. So not really a concern lol.
What is the performance potential of the 2.5L 5 cyl? Whats a typical stage 1 make, stage 2 etc? Quarter mile times? Im interested...nice alternative to the price of an RS3 for that sound!
The potential can be tremendous but that all just depends on your budget. There have been guys taking these motors and making them complete monsters making 500hp reliably but that takes redoing the internals and more. Stage 1 - 3 is definitely worth every amount of work put into it. From 0 to 2 it’s a completely different car. Stage 3 makes it a completely different animal! For the quarter mile times we’re not sure as far as modified cars, but there’s plenty of data online for stock forms of the cars!👍
We really appreciate you saying that! We’re trying our hardest to bring more content. Now THAT is something we would definitely love to be updated on!😮💨 One of of the future project cars are either going to be a T5M, or a S60R or V70R for sure!🔥🔥
@@WhipGetters Its faster than I ever expected it would be. No governor on it when I bought it. 2.4 NA. Wiseco forged kit. I have a turbo, but chose to stick to the NA with the wetkit. Although its never used, its fun as hell taking my wagon down the highway and watching people in the rearview. Its my daily though, so I try not to beat on it. Lost some top end recently because I blew a tire and had to put the stock wheels back on with touring tires. Just cant afford new tires atm. I run 35mm sidewalls on it. Im considering stepping up to 45 on the next set.
What we love about that is you’re so ambitious in making your car the best it can be; ultimately making you happy. We’d love to hear more about your story the further you get down the line. Our Volvo on the other hand needs a little more love than we’d like, but it’ll be up and running here soon hopefully!
@@WhipGetters Im excited to see what you guys wind up with. Ive been a mechanic all my life. Steered clear of volvos because it used to be so expensive to work on them. Since I got this vehicle, I have found the parts to be incredibly reasonable, and working on them is fantastic. So well engineered. Looking forward to your projects progress!
Ironic I fell into an 04 S60 non turbo! ( Same color as yours) FWD and I've found nothing! Everything on line says you should have bought the T5 well at the time I was just getting out of a serious accident in my old car and a friend offered this one to me cheap! She runs good with 210k only changed back to the OEM plugs and installed a a K&N box filter, only thing I really wanted after that was to get rid of the bread box muffler!! Any recommendations instead of straight pipe? Ik that's probably asking a stupid question but just wanted a little more growl! Anyway I do appreciate your video for the future!!
Since it’s the naturally aspirated one, the exhaust system set ups will be a little different. But what you can do is do a muffler delete and factory resonator delete and install a smaller but high flow resonator which should give you a nice purr and some great noise for not being super loud. Our S60 being straight piped is loud but not as loud as some N/A 4 bangers and v8s straight piped. The odd firing pattern of the 5 cylinder gives it a lower tone. But if you want some nice purring and noise, that should do you good! Also there’s no such thing as a stupid question!😎
@@WhipGetters hey really appreciate your advice! Definitely get through the winter here on the east coast and will start looking for the Red and decent muffler ! Yes, just looking for that low tone growl or as close as possible! Ik a lot of what doing I can't! But still truly appreciate your videos and advice!! Good luck and thanks again!!
We really appreciate you showing us some support and stopping by for some info!🔥 Good luck on your journey and if you need anything more, don’t hesitate to reach out!😎
I have a 2005 s80 2.5T AWD with about 200k miles, seems to run great i picked it up 2 weeks ago. Whats gonna fail on me first and what would you recommend to do for maintenance first. A little list would be cool thanks 🙏. I dont know much about volvo im big into the vw scene
It just depends on how the car was taken care of. First before anything, is check your timing belt. Inspect it to see if there are ANY cracks or splits. If you just want to be on the safe side, replace the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, and check the idler pulley too. If that snaps or breaks, that could be the end of the motor life! Just check all basic maintenance, then once all is done you can start having fun with the modifications!😎
so I need a stage zero on a 2018 with 12k? Need an update for the newer versions and Im asking for all to see not just harping on your channel. Awesome stuff if I ever go broke.
We should have clarified that these are mainly for years under 2014 mainly equipped with the 5 cylinder motors. A stage 0 never hurts especially if you are wanting to do performance. Just because a car has 12k, does not mean it should be at least checked over before upgrades.👍
Hey can u recommend anywhere other than elevate for upgrade for a Volvo 850 t5 engine? Say I want individual throttle bodies that I can attach an air box to for a turbo, can you recommend anything at all? Would really appreciate it
The individual throttle bodies would be a difficult one to do unless it’s been done before and been sourced for being normal. If that makes sense. You can try Viva Performance, they are a great source for performance on Volvos! A lot of if not all Volvos that are modified will have a single throttle body for all the air flow. Unless it’s a full on custom race car using the motor. We hope this helps and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!👍
I went billet 22t... Td05 18g wheel stuffed into machined td04 housing. Limited me at around 330-350whp. Mind u thats with a dw fuel pump and dw 800 injectors, wmi, and 100oct. I have a 98 s70 t5 factory manual car so has motronic 4.4 but i put a b5234t9 with 143mm rods from an 04 in the car with 60k miles on it. About $12k deep so far including $1500 purchase price of the car. Keep going man its addicting...
@@ryanpillay2679 pretty straight forward. Theres some good write ups on volvospeed. Its been 2 years but you need the 99-00 front engine mount bracket, the 98 accessory bracket bolts up with 5 out of 6 bolt holes so you can use all your current accessories (alternator, ps, etc). You use your current crank sensor, and cam sensor on the rear of exhaust cam. The rear of the intake cam is already threaded for a rotor plate, you pop the plastic cover and drill the hole 1/2" deep (cant remember exact bit size but on the forums). So you can attach your 98 rotor and distributor cap. The accessory belt fits slightly tight with rn idler pulley use belt 060690 Napa part# if cannot get this specific belt punching in part # online should give you dimensions to find similar. Your stock hard line fuel lines wont fit the bend over the cam cover i used gates e85 submersible fuel hose from the regulator on the rack to jic fitting at the rail. Im sure i missed some but this is the gist of it.
There’s a reason your name is OGfromUtube! Coming in clutch with all the info, making us collect so much more info!😎 This whole car process of modifying these cars and motors does make it so addicting! Makes us want to get a T5 motor even more and make it a full engine build. Your dedication and knowledge will probably make our decision even more precise!
We’re not too familiar with the new T8 models, but we bet if you’re able to search the forums you’ll find T8 Owner forums and they’ll be able to help you out!👌
Ok man you've commented on a few of my comments but here I go I need your help I want to get a 2006 s60 I'd love a s60r or even a 2.5 but none in my area but what would I need to change/mod to get about close to 400hp at max no more I want a quick grocery getter that can still handle michigan roads in winter
So there’s a couple different things you can do. if you’re wanting to push 400whp on a S60R, it’s a little easier to do than a 2.5t. Considering that they’re the same displacement but different motor types. S60R owners have done 400whp reliably with a good amount of mods. Anything pushing over 400whp you’ll have to remplace the internals due to them not being strong enough. A super rare but amazing Volvo modular motor would be a 2001 2.3T. These motors/ cars are pretty rare to find because they are heavy duty tanks. That motor came with iron cylinder lining and what makes it different than the 1990-1999 2.3s is the introduction to OBDII but also the engines update. At the end of the day it’s entirely up to what you want, but the more power you want out of these motors, the more money and work will have to be put into them.👍
@@WhipGettersdo you know if the 2004 2.3t motor is the same as the 01 2.3t? I want to push my t5 to some higher numbers but worried of the limitations of my motor and auto aw55 trans :/
@stayclassie6875 There are different motor applications for certain models of Volvos. Majority of the time, the 2001-2004 2.3l engines are the same, but may differ in specs and engine codes. Having a 2.3l is already a huge advantage compared to 2.4 or 2.5. Certain 2.3l engines came with iron cylinder walls and can handle some big power!
Good video. How can i increase my boost on my volvo s60 2.0T. I have a custom 3" straight pipe exhaust and a TD04HL-16T turbo on it and its running on 0.4 bar boost and wont go higher
Great content!! I have a volvo S60 2.4 T5.. was having engine light that reads out fuel pressure sensor prob code..changed and after a week it pops out again..😢
It’s always the smallest things that have the biggest impact. Our S60 is having a whole fuel pump problem, which we have to fix anyways because the fuel cut that happens just makes the car not drivable.🫤
@@WhipGetters thanks for the reply mate! So far my car haven't had any jerking or turn off by itself. But then, was expecting to check on the fuel pump too. Btw, i just replaced the aisin gearbox coz it got filled with gearbox coolant. So, after changing the gearbox, i could feel the gear changing wasn't that smooth. Felt like it shifts hard from R to D and likewise. Other than that frm 1st to 2nd and 3rd too. Was kinda stressed up to drive in jam/city coz if it shifts down, could really feel the jerking. Any suggestions on this?
Majority of the FWD Volvos came with the really shitty transmission I think it’s the AW55-50SN Trans which sadly couldn’t handle a lot of power once you started. After a while the S60 transmission is was slipping and slamming into R & D whenever it was warm. We replaced the transmission to one with way less mileage, and once we did that, everything with the transmission was fixed! Also, good to notate, the FWD Volvos do NOT like hard launches!😂
@@WhipGetters ouchh..but its engine puts out really great torque 😆 . I do suspect the happens due to driveshaft, or engine/ gearbox mounts. Does it affects them?
Just making sure your car is ready and able to handle the power it’ll be getting. Make sure there are no oil leaks, the engine has been fully looked over, and that incase you do have a failure in any shape or form, it can be easily fixed.👍
is yours a t5 or a 2.5t? my s80 has a 2.5t and want to do something to it but most guides are exclusive to t5's. will most parts for the t5 fit on a 2.5t?
A lot of the motor parts are interchangeable. Our S60 originally had the 2.4T motor, but was replaced with the 2.5T motor. You can find tons of parts from a couple of the websites we listed in the description and with a little bit of searching! If you have questions about anything with parts and tuning, feel free to ask us!😎
I got a 2006 s60 t5 manual, 103K miles, I was thinking about buying a cai and a stage 1 tune, do you think I really need a FM intercooler for this mods?
We haven’t added a FMI all the way up to stage 3. If you want to add it you can, it would probably make ours flow much better and cooler. But for stage one you’ll be more than fine to skip it until higher stages!😎
You should be fine, just make sure your flange for your exhaust down pipe is angled if angled. The 18T I got had an angled exhaust flange and bolted right up to the exhaust manifold. If yours is straight flanged, find a straight flanged 16T or 18T. If you have the same flange, it is a direct bolt up. If this was confusing just let us know!😎
No. Do not get misleading. 18T can be bolt on. BUT it will BENT your ROD. This problem has been discussed a lot on Volvo forums. 18/19T K24 turbo bolt on is a guarantee BENT ROD. You will need a special TUNE for big turbo. For the flange part. All TD04HL - xxT turbo share the same exhaust housing. The only safe choice for bolt on is 15g/16t. Btw. I own 2 850R sedan.
You’re right, but we weren’t misleading! Of course any bigger turbo will require a tune and it’s supported mods as mentioned in the video. It also squares down to what block you have as well. Understandable, and you taught us something we didn’t know either!😎
They’re somewhat virtually the same obviously besides the turbo. The biggest things you can do is the basic maintenance will help the motor and car out substantially! There are plenty of forums that explain the N/A motor modding, this video attacks more of the turbo how’s in modding! But as well as a lot of non turbo motors too!😄 We hope this helps!
@@WhipGetters thank you for getting back with me so quickly I do appreciate your information and can't wait to get back with you when I've done some modifications of my own thank you again
For your cars reliability, yes. Of course you can do what you would like. But basic maintenance is going to insure your car lasts longer if it’s taken care of.
i have a c70 t5 (older model) and id like to get more performance but i got no money and i dont want to do anything before some important maintanances. also i think maybe judt save good amouny of money and build it well and mindfully at once so it might save a lot of headache. just a dream not yet obtainable with out getting fulltime job.
You’re right in everything you said. Not only are these cars super reliable when they’re taken care of, but parts and maintenance can be just a little more costly than desired!😮💨
i have an 06 s60 t5 with 57k miles. i plan on going stage 2+ by the end of the year. do you think crank and cam seals are still a must before then? i have the timing belt and water pump out of the way, and my plans are to do spark plugs and ignition coils soon, do88 drop in intercooler, snabb 3" catless downpipe, swedesource air filter, muffler and resonator delete, and probably not an intake because from what i know the t5 intake is good enough for stage 2 but ill probably do one eventually anyways. any other reccomendations or other peices of advice? im 16 and dont know too much about modding car but im trying my best to learn and do it the right way because i know the rarity of my car and dont wanna mess it all up.
i already have a borgwarner k24 turbo so i dont think ill need to mess with that but i dont want to take it any farther than stage 2+ until i manual swap it.
I can tell you this, you’re doing something right if you have a T5 with 57k miles. Plus you have the BEST motor Volvo has made regarding 5 cylinders. Your motor has iron cylinder walls which makes the block a MONSTER! It can handle so much power compared to the R motors and the other ones such as our 2.5T. You’re doing all the right steps with the power mods, just make sure to do ALL of your maintenance first before adding power. I know it’s exciting and fun to add mods, but you can ruin your engines longevity. Doing your crank seals and all required maintenance will extend the life for your motor DRASTICALLY! You should be right around the best mods for a stage 2+. Stage 3 and up are for bigger turbos and bigger fuel pumps. Make sure on your stage 2 you get the R injectors regardless. They’re referred to as the ‘Green Giant’ injectors. You’ll learn soon enough, it just takes patience and time. If you have any more questions, let us now and we can help you through the process!😎
@@WhipGetters i got INSANELY lucky and picked this thing up for $6500. thanks for the advice! ill probably do crank seals shortly after the tune is applied.

Very hard to find lots of Volvo content and consistent. That’s why we’re trying to bring more and more!👍
plenty of them on the Swedish youtube.
Sounds like a great plan!
Couldn't agree more with the stage 0 before you start adding power. I have a stage 2 (350bhp) v70 2.4 T5. It is tuned by shemtek (u.k based) and he always recommends stage 0 before tuning. A brief explanation of this would be
-Plugs and coils. My car had the original coils on and after I tuned it, each one was dropping one after the other. I replaced them all for genuine in the end.
-Pcv system replacement. Expensive using genuine parts but prevents your cam seals and crank seals leaking in the first place. Also a bad pcv can cause maf error codes which can upset a tuned car
-replace all the one way valves on the engine and check for boost leaks from pipes and the turbo inlet pipe.
-replace tcv (turbo control valve) if its old as these commonly go wrong on higher mileage volvos
Like the dude in the video says, tuning volvos ain't cheap, especially if you want the job doing right.
Funny thing is after we’ve made this video, we’re replacing our PCV system!🤣 Thanks for the info and pretty sure we’re gonna need your R!😮💨😂
@@WhipGetters Make sure to get the Genuine Volvo stuff. This is one of those areas you don't go to the aftermarket for. Clean up you throttle body and replace the gasket while you're in there also.

You’re going to love it! Every mod will have you itching for more!😁
great outline on safely modding P2s! we need more content like this.
Finally found a helpful vid for this. Now just waiting for more money so i can upgrade my s80 further than stage 1 software upgrade.
Our next and final video about modifying these cars will include this!😎
2.3 T5 motor for life! fuck the 2.4 i need the thiccc walls 😂
@@terra6084 2.3's sound badass and run forever. The 90mm stroke + 81mm bore is so solid. You don't get cracked cylinder walls. 👍🏼 I'm with you bro.
No oil leaks , but there is a power steering leak which I have all the parts for,the lower cat has been removed as well, aftermarket fan mounting straps ruined my radiator I believe, I want it running right now, love this car
I just found your channel and subbed 🤘
I own a 2000 V70 T5 Geartronic with about 311.000 Miles (500.000 km) for over 5 years now. It has been a learning curve... But there is a lot of information about these engines out there, just well hidden🤫
What i have learned so far :
2.4 and 2.5 engines need to be shimmed! Even stock the cilinderwalls tend to crack at the top.
It is a lot of work but in parts it's only the shims and a gasket-set for the head.
The 2.3 engine's (like i have) don't have that issue😁
All of the engines have oil seals in the sump that are critical for the oil pressure, replace them for oem and have one less thing to worry about.
They all have a PCV system, replace only for the ones that have Volvo stamped on the bags😉. The sets cost a bit more but i have had trouble with good branded others causing my camseals to blow out and leaving me with an oil soaked timing belt, happy days 🥳
For sparkplugs only use - i know i am repeating myself a bit now - Volvo original sparkplugs.
With the help of a Haynes manual, UA-cam, forums, advice from Volvo specialists and a lot of patience i really got to know my car and overcome every hurdle she's thrown at me thus far 🤞

have had several volvo 5-cyls, never had a turbo, until i got a 2000 s60 2.4 200hp all leather spaceball.

They are if you over boost them. Forums have lots of info on boosting certain motors.

Just bought our first p1 S40 2.4i, we had plenty of v-dubs but this is go to know!!

New proud owner of a volvo s60R😁
Good basic info, everyone forgets stage 0 before mods. Also those new to modding should also consider supporting mods besides power adders. Adding 150 hp means nothing if your transmission hasn't been looked over, same goes for brakes and suspension. Did this on my IS with no regrets. Spent more $ on brakes, suspension, transmission than i did power adders because power means nothing if you cant get it to the ground or control it.

@@WhipGetters Is your S60 T5 FWD or AWD? Do you think it is viable to modify up to 300 - 350hp a FWD? or better I get a s60r with AWD?
@@WhipGetters Something else, do you know if it is possible to increase the size of the wheels of a s60 2007 T5 2.4? It is currently about 17'' but I would like to put some 19'' vossen h5, however I don't know if it is adequate or better I should stay at 18'' safely.
Fwd
You took a chance most people won’t and now you understand why Volvos are just so special and particularly awesome!!🔥 You made an awesome choice!😎
@@WhipGetters i have a thing for liking forgotten or overlooked platforms lol. But the little c30 is fun as shit though even though its stock atm.
You start modifying it, you’ll get addicted!😆 A LOT of people start modifying Volvos then get hooked. It’s an expensive car to modify, but super fun!😎
@@WhipGetters cant be much worse than a 3000gt. Pretty sure im $26,000 into all-motor build lol.
Oooof!😮💨 Once we get our new Volvo build going, we can compare prices! We’ll do a full motor build. In all reality any car build isn’t cheap!🤣
@@WhipGetters how much power are you achieving with stage 2 on E85? And what does your stg 3 cae make....just for reference?

Oooooo weeee that must be a runner!

I have 2015 volvo v70 d4, I want to get some modifications but can't seem to find anything online, which is a bummer....
It seems like Volvo diesel and it’s range of performance mods is very slim.🫤
@@WhipGetters I don't mean modifications as in performance mods just overall visual modifications
For sure wheels, but not to sure about other visual mods. It’s very very rare to see a V70 D4 or diesel Volvo in the United States.
@@WhipGetters yeah, I was thinking of getting good summer tires and rims but not sure yet what I'm going to do
Ironic I fell into an 04 S60 non turbo!

We should have clarified that these are mainly for years under 2014 mainly equipped with the 5 cylinder motors. A stage 0 never hurts especially if you are wanting to do performance. Just because a car has 12k, does not mean it should be at least checked over before upgrades.👍

We haven’t yet but we will!😎
Hey can u recommend anywhere other than elevate for upgrade for a Volvo 850 t5 engine? Say I want individual throttle bodies that I can attach an air box to for a turbo, can you recommend anything at all? Would really appreciate it
The individual throttle bodies would be a difficult one to do unless it’s been done before and been sourced for being normal. If that makes sense. You can try Viva Performance, they are a great source for performance on Volvos! A lot of if not all Volvos that are modified will have a single throttle body for all the air flow. Unless it’s a full on custom race car using the motor. We hope this helps and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!👍

Hey bro, how does the later engine swap work, also got a 98, but H rods are hard to get here, so ive been thinking of a swap.
Makes us want to get a T5 motor even more and make it a full engine build. Your dedication and knowledge will probably make our decision even more precise!
Also the 2.5 turbo engine is the same engine that is used at the same era's Ford focus rs
You are very right! Ford wanted to use Volvos beast of an engine and decided that Volvos modular motor was the best option for the Focus RS!😎
Love these cars😍😍
What do you recommend for newer t8 models for mods?

What do u recommend doing befjre a RIP KIT
Just making sure your car is ready and able to handle the power it’ll be getting. Make sure there are no oil leaks, the engine has been fully looked over, and that incase you do have a failure in any shape or form, it can be easily fixed.👍

Where do you get a metal over the engine pipe like you have?
It’s a charge pipe made by Snabb. There are a couple other brands that make them but Snabb is an awesome brand.
Did you have to change anything for the 18t turbo or is just a bolt on
You should be fine, just make sure your flange for your exhaust down pipe is angled if angled.
@@WhipGetters also the 18T is not a efficient turbo. All TH04HL are not really efficient. If you really want power, K24 is better.

I'm fixing to get a 2006 Volvo S40 non turbo any suggestions on modifications for it all I see is turbo car mods
They’re somewhat virtually the same obviously besides the turbo. The biggest things you can do is the basic maintenance will help the motor and car out substantially! Hey man I know I’m behind but I would like to link up with you, because I just got one and want to dump some money into it.
That sounds good bro! What were you thinking of doing to the car?
i have an 06 s60 t5 with 57k miles. i plan on going stage 2+ by the end of the year. do you think crank and cam seals are still a must before then? i have the timing belt and water pump out of the way, and my plans are to do spark plugs and ignition coils soon, do88 drop in intercooler, snabb 3" catless downpipe, swedesource air filter, muffler and resonator delete, and probably not an intake because from what i know the t5 intake is good enough for stage 2 but ill probably do one eventually anyways. any other reccomendations or other peices of advice? im 16 and dont know too much about modding car but im trying my best to learn and do it the right way because i know the rarity of my car and dont wanna mess it all up.
i already have a borgwarner k24 turbo so i dont think ill need to mess with that but i dont want to take it any farther than stage 2+ until i manual swap it.
