    For day to day use, a 1776. For a little fun, an 1835 with dual Dellorto 40s. For racing, a 2110 with IDAs, minimum.

    Hey good video EZGZ!!! I just stepped up my engine recently in my rail from a 1776 to a 2276, I'm still in the midst of getting it all buttoned up. I noticed in your video you have a oil filter on front near the oil pump and a second external oil filter. This is how the engine i just bought is. My question is since it doesn't have a doghouse oil cooler is it ok to run with just 1 external oil cooler without a fan like i see on yours???? Or is a fan on the external cooler required since it only has 1 oil cooler???? If that makes sense? Any advice or help shed some light for me would be greatly appreciated! Love your videos man an always learn a lot from you. Thanks in advance!!!

    Hey EZ.. First of all, I gotta say yet again (even though I'm subbed), I love coming across these videos.! So calming and fun to watch.. I know this video is 2 years old, but I have a question or 2 regarding my 15 year old daughter's engine build.. The engine block we have is great, no cracks, has case savers, etc... But when her and I tore it down and I checked the crank bearings, there are signs of the origional bearing stampings in the case.. Nothing terrible and the webs don't look terribly scored, but should we get a line bore done or look possibly into another case.? This is our first VW engine build..

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  4 роки тому +1

      If it's your first build I would take the crankshaft along with the rods and case to a machine shop that has VW experience or at least a shop that would spend some time with you. There time is money so they are not likely push other work aside to just talk. Expect to pay them something for there time.
      At some point your going to need a shop manual with all the information on measurements. Buy it now because it will be a great learning experience. If you can spend $100 go to harbor freight and buy some tools to measure and a 3/8 torque wrench.
      You need to establish if the bearings are standard or oversize and go from there. I should make a new video and cover this stuff again. Good Luck with your project

    • @geoffreygreenman699
      @geoffreygreenman699 4 роки тому

      @@TheEZGZ Thank you for the reply.! You're the man.. I do have an hpbooks manual titled "how to build your volkswagen air cooled engine", and I have learned a bit already from just scrolling through different sections.. Unfortunately we do no have any machine shops around my area that can or will line bore.. We do have a harbor freight though.. 😁 I will definitely need to invest is the above mentioned tools.. I am a machinist by trade for a corporation here, but I am not allowed to take my "government work" to work.. Ha.. The moror has stock crank, rods, etc. so I am assuming the bearings are standard size and not bored over..

      Years ago a 1967 Beetle was highly sought after but they made a lot of changes and unless you have a very complete car I would look for something that came with IRS transmission. Your 67 was swing axle and many interior and exterior parts were 1 year only. Now if you plan on customizing it then all that doesn't matter. Good Luck with your project Mr. Ramos

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  4 роки тому +1

      The stock 1.1 work great. Later on I tried some 1.25 and felt a slight improvement. On my two liter I ran the 1.4 and it ran great for a few years and then suddenly I started breaking rocker shaft bolts. Even the special kind. I think it was because my heavy duty single springs were getting weak. You must always use at least heavy duty single springs with solid rocker shafts on any performance camshaft. The fk7 cam works fine with stock rockers but I still use the heavy springs and add zinc additive to the oil. Hope this helps you decide. Engine is smooth and strong to 5kRPM with dual two throat carbs

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  6 років тому +1

      A light coating of high temp black paint on cylinder fin's will help dissipate heat and prevent corrosion. I would not recommend painting the engine block or transmission case as it acts like a insulator and traps the heat in to a small degree. Many rebuilders like to put a light coat of paint on things to make it look nice and even compliment the cars body paint. It's up to you. I personally prefer a clean ugly case just like left the factory. Sand Rails and Dune buggy's are different story. They don't get driven for that long and you can see everything.

    What motor sizes can I fit on a swing axle beetle transmission? I currently have a 1600

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  2 роки тому

      If a stock 1600 flywheel fits in the tranny you can run any engine size with a 12 volt starter. Check your starter bushing in the bellhousing. Large one is for 6 Volt

    Hello sir, I actually have a 1776 long block, bought the cheap empi 40 single carb setup but didnt like the look and feel of the intake. Without reinventing the wheel, I was thinking of going with a stock 34pict-3 carb but I've also read guys rejetting the carb. Is this something you'd recommend doing? I am currently building a baja and the engine is the main key piece missing but dont want to break the bank..

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  6 років тому +1

      There are plenty of stock used carbs to experiment with. If the person that built your 1776 put in a performance camshaft you probably won't like it. I generally run two carbs on all my engines. Good Luck with your project

    How do you like that scat c35 cam in that motor? Is that a mid range cam?

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  Рік тому +1

      To me the scat c35 is similar to the engel 110 but smoother. C35 is one of the best all around cams you can buy as long as your using dual carbs and 009 dizzy.
      The C25 is even stronger on the low and mid range.

    • @rwebdaddy
      @rwebdaddy Рік тому

      @TheEZGZ cool. I'm building a 2180 right now and crunching numbers to figure out what cam is going to compliment my 82mm stroke and not kill the valve train. I don't mind some RPMs but don't want to always have to rev high to get the power that's sitn there ready to work.😁

    • @TheEZGZ

    Rod Ratio? Whats the advantage of using long rods over short rods or visa versa in a 2276? Rod angle? Rpm's? Wear and tear?

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  6 років тому

      I'm not smart enough to get in those debates. My 2276 has stock VW rods that have been ground down for clearance at the big end. That works great up to 5,500 RPM or so and that is all I need with the cam I got. Engle 120
