This is a video of a complete first start engine procedure new engine, 0 miles all new and ready to race
This is a very nice engine for street strip application. This engine is methodically thawed out to run on the streets with 91 octane fuel. Stay cool and go the distance. Everything we build here is built as if it was going to be put up in my own car and race against the best. They should be a competitive Engine for entry-level real Street and I competitive, I mean it will run in the high 7s.
The engine is ready now to go to the Dino. Thanks for everybody that watches my channel all over the world reviews lately have been very low. I’m not sure why is that but hopefully this will get you guys back on deck. #california #cars #car #vintage #performance #aircooled
Ironic!! I just broke in a 1915 yesterday...same procedure I use. I'm digging that oil pressure gauge set up, WAY cleaner than the plastic tubing crap I have. Keep these videos coming, I learn something new from you everytime!! Much appreciated!
Oh...and I ran outta fuel, even after checking!! LOL
That is awesome!
Nice motor, looks so sweet. Sounds just great. 👌👌
Thanks 👍
Love the straight cut gear whine! That exhaust system I could look at all day, work of art.
Thanks
I have the same exhaust but it looks so much better on his with a brand new motor build
Never seen straight cut gears on the camshaftdrive... 😮
@@ebbeweber1310 Common mod for aircooled VWs. Reduces side-thrust on the cam bearing and less friction. But the blower-like sound is the best reason to do it!
@@martinharris5017 The ultimate sound, VW with a blower! 😊
I totally agree on the stock valve covers.
Eso sonido ningún otro motor lo hace en el mundo! VW fever 🤒
The engine sounds beautiful! NA too! 200+ HP That bug is going to surprise a lot of cars! Way cool!
Check out our latest upload it’s intalation
Yeah we have a video of the engine in the car
Dream engine. 👍🏿 sounds great
the good stuff 12:57 Mahalo for posting this, sick build!
Freaken awesome man , I love watching one come alive ! Feisty one and healthy! Thanks for sharing
Nice build my big boy build hopefully sounds and makes power like that engine
Literally the best VW dub video I’ve watched all weekend. Thanks Dave!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sounds great right on beautiful motor
Forever VW 🤘🏻
congratulations for the work and whim!!!!!
Thanks buddy
Ballpark figure for this motor with the China 48
12500
Orale! Thats why your tuning my 2110.
Eso
Can't wait almost there waiting on my heads for 2332 then break in time
Get sum
It’s beautiful…Sounds Amazing!!!!
Scope shows little more than 32 deg. at what rpm? 3000?
32degrees at 3200
@@volkstroke Awsome dude!
Sounds crisp 👌 a bit better than my 1641 for sure
Just a little bit
This video is 22min76sec long. just saying
Great video…thanks for sharing!
Yessah 🔥❤️🔥💪🏾🙏🏽VOLKSTROKE 🤙🏾
I just bought a 2180 for my 67 Herbie Replica it won’t be 214hp but it’ll be fast it’s at least a month out before I get it but I’m psyched
Gotta have fun ma
I'm seeing almost 90lbs oil pressure at 3400rpm, is that not a little bit too much ?
It’s cold pressure when it warms up it drops by half
Cool design! For me the most beautiful four cylinder sound in the world is the slow running aircooled VW engine sound. 😍 Greetings from Germany!🇩🇪🤝
Couldn't agree more!
You were burping it . Whoop first gear woo scpecond gear. Gonna be a blast. 💥
👍🏾🤙🏾🔥
Fantastic!
Top!
Awesome. Nice work.
Great motor sounds surpberb THANK YOU for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
damn that thing sounds nice, like a bike!
Wow … love it !!
Wish I could put that in my 64 Bug
Looks like he knows what he’s doing to me
Dude im having vw problems just getting mine stared .that 1 you built is rowdy as f.... i got the little 1.3 liter new starter new coil new flame thrower distributor new spark plug wires and spark plugs new voltage reg. And it acts like it dosent want to even roll over .no. crank im tired of dealing with it dude trade me 1 on of those bad boys i got some good parts on this thing or help me getr going .it ran like a champ last year with old parts its like a 55 vw if im not mistaken.
Sounds like your starter wire came off
INTERESTING the HP numbers are strange sounds good for a short range racking motor
It’s a runner working on the video of the install
I need that exhaust but Parkerized!
Is it good to run a sand seal on a 1600? Saw a video stating its good to keep sand a water out but tend to leak
I recomendable it
That air cooled VW engine , is a unique, unprecedented, unparalleled, unmatched machine , forever !
Indeed it is! I agree with you
Sounds real low end still responsive still snappy there is a lighter flywheel
@@TenToes-jp3ej look at the dyno video it’s on the description click on the link see the numbers and the ranges of torque
@@TenToes-jp3ej yes lighter by 5 lbs
2275cc = 215ish HP.... Could be more with perfect parts💪
Always kickin' ass Dave! Love the channel. Keep up the great work! Who do you recommend for welding and porting manifolds?
Manifolds us 😎
thanks! volksstroke sounds so good! dave'., how many pounds of torque?
Don’t remember it’s on the follow up video

Where in so cal are you located at or contact number ?
San Gabriel foothills
I agree, what the hell are you doing changing the timing so much you should’ve just set it right?
Sorry
Hey brother! Where are you located? Love your work!!! I have a 74 super beetle
In Monrovia
Omg. Cranking that dist. Like he’s an 80’s DJ running the turntables. Lol! Can’t you just static time that thing to get it in the ball park? Never used that distributer though.
Yeah man terrible lol i was going the wrong way the whole time
But it’s ok it had oil pressure
This dude adjusting the carbs and timing doesnt seem to know what his adjustments will do so he goes both ways
lol 😆
Just random turning of the distributor...smh "tuner"
😉
Love it 👏👏👏👏👏
Hell Yeah, Damn I love this video...motor sounds soooo sick. Can I upgrade the 2180? 😂
Sounds great, Thanks for sharing.
How much that engine going to cost me I have 73vw bug ?
Like 15k $
I wish I'd had that when I had my '68 Beetle. A little better than the stock 1300cc. LOL
Very very nicy
David, what's the distributor in that 2276, MSD or CB performance?
This specific one is a flame thrower
You do some great builds bro looks full of power and showtime ready
Thank you buddy
Sounds healthy and crispy amigo... 💪 it's pump gas? 10.5:1 compression
Yeah pump gas
91
Cool dude...
sweet
Very healthy in a closed Room. OMG
Sounded nice
How much does an engine like set u back?
Like 15k thanks to inflation and Covid they were 12 k before Covid and 8k 4 years ago
How do you set up your initial timing? Looks like you move the dizzy quite a bit to get it to fire off at first. What about jetting out the gate? what are looking for with head temps at with cam break in,..guessing about 2500rpm. Sounds very nice, crisp and snappy, love the way the motor calms down,..like taming a wild horse.
I had set it initially at 15 but usually needs to be messed with to get it to run always do it this way
3k rpm with 150 mains 65 idles 200 air no load yet dyno on Monday
@@volkstroke Thanks,..appreciate the posts. We can all use a bit of knowledgable help and you have it pretty well figured...maybe see you at the track.
Put your hair up. No accidents
Indeed
What exhaust system is this and do you prefer it over the A1 sidewinder?
Amazing throttle response
Thanks
It's ah runner
Hell yeah
You should be making more HP than that.
10.5 compression .
1:6 rockers by empi,
Heads were brutally polished and ported.
Weber 48 IDA's with f7 emulsion tubes on the tall match ported manifolds.. infact, we welded thez back side gap to allow for more porting. Added 1 oz per gallon of Xylene, 2oz per gallon lacalene to racing gasoline.
Final octane rating was un obtainable as it dissolved the container before the officials could analyze it. We guess it was around 130 Ronz number.
Baylands raceway, Fremont, ca.
We got 235 HP from a 2180
The heads aren’t that big it’s on 1.4 And only .550 at the valve advanced and peak HP is not that high in RPM so I actually think it’s perfect for what it is. And idk about all that funny business with the fuel I just build to run on 91
wth with tryin to twist the dizzy off at startup? why not preset it and act like ya know wassup?
I’m waiting for you to come do it for me
@@volkstroke id love to learn from you im sure youve forgot more than ill ever know....
Perrón el motorson
What was wrong with 34 BHP ? It reminds me of an engine developed by Mahag Racing in Munich that they sent to us in the UK for the first Formula V race in the UK, but it certainly didn't have this much power!!!
What’s 34 Bhp?
What exhaust system is this?
Low down header
Extra spicy!😊
Made high numbers at low rpm
Man that’s beautiful,, I bet you could build a nasty woods buggy engine,, volkstroker banging gears passing q**** in ecotecs hill killing,,
Big torque monsters
I love these engine build videos. Roughly what does a complete engine like this go for minus exhaust? What transmission mods need to be done if any for a street car to be somewhat reliable? Thanks
These engines start at 12k for parts
Transmisión needs to be decent if you wanna get on it minimum a nice diff and axles and mid mount and traction bar to make sure it don’t hop the tire
@@volkstroke Good info, thanks for the quick response!
Cooling?
damn that thing sounds sweet. so smooth. is it because of a counter weighted crank or is it because of something else?
Balanced internals
😁👍
😜
Sounds mean!
What’s the compression ratio and deck height/quench situation like? 040 castings?
10.1 .040 street eliminators there’s a link on the description of the dyno session
Clean
Thank you
what should your sync tool set at? 2? mine was at 7.
Depends 5 6or 7
Very nice !!!!!
What are looking for as an average temp on a break-in ?
I get the head to 300
Absolutely love the motor, would definitely want to learn how to build something similar for my bug🔥🔥
Hell yeah
Excellent VW Engine WoW
at what RPM are those flaps adjusted with the gauges, so they sync? is roughly idle or?
Every engine is different some 6 some 5 some 7 vacuum signal differs in cam shafts and head port volume
i hope you have a window open for that carbon monoxide to escape.......
Yes sir big gate
If running dual valve springs, do you remove the inner or outer spring for cam break in? Or just leave them both in and break in normally?
Never have done all that I just breake it in like that with all the pressure in the world
damn ggooodddd!
Is the crank wedgemated for the increase of estimated horsepower ???????
I don’t recommend it really it’s not crucial at all
Sounds SO Sweet , good job !
Thank you
I have a 2332 with a web 86c I love this cam
Brothers VW Machine I have known them for many years A+
Yes sir
nice engine. just watched the dyno video. just curious what you set your deck hight at on this one?
.050
Right so , the cam and lifter faces are only lubricated by overspill from oil coming out of the sides of the con rod journals .
So you said you take the plugs out , presumably to ease compression strain on the starter motor so it cranks quicker .
In that time, you are cranking it , what is protecting the cam and lifter faces , the cam assembly lube gets rwiped off pretty quickly so what is protecting the new cam and lifters during that quite excessive cranking time on the video ?
Also, you didn't mention if you were running outer springs only for the initial run as if that is a 200 hp motor, it's going to have quite a considerably aggressive camshaft profile in it , which in turn will require pretty heavy valve springs . Why not bench run the cam and lifters in on the outer springs only ? Then, after the initial 20 min run , fit the inner springs and do another 20 mins .
Also , it seemed a bit random to keep wacking that distributor backwards and forwards like that to get it to start , at some stages, you had it so far advanced that it made the motor almost stop .
I always run outer springs only first
I also go spark plugs out and rocker assemblies off for initial oil pressure cranking . Then the engine spins over super quickly without wiping cam lube off .
For the bench run, i have a reliable old 009 distributor fitted with points, so it is super easy to statically tine the engine close enough to get it to start straight away .
Also , once i have cranked it for oil pressure, i refit the plugs and rockers and then fill the engine to the max mark on the dipstick, then add 2 litres to overfill it .
This has the effect of submerging the cam and lifters just over halfway in oil so they never ever have a dry moment in the bench run .
Also, the cam manufacturers recommend 2500 to 3000 rpm for 20 mins for the bench run . The reason for this is to get enough oil flowing out of the side of the con rods to keep the cam splash lubricated.
With the engine 2 litres overfilled , there is no need as the cam and lifters are permanently in contact with the oil, so you can run the engine at 1800 revs, easier on the new motor , you are chucking less fuel through it on no load so less washing out of the fresh piston rings. It's also a lot less noisy
Just my thoughts on the subject after having bench run many aircooled engines over the last 26 years
I just run them like this throw in the car and use them many times go straight to the track and beat on them the cam doesn’t get messed up if you check the lifter spins good it is fine to run if I tell you the sPring pressures I run on my 8k 9k rpm engines you would probably cringe on how much stress I throw at them it’s all good that’s what good oil is for and been successful doing so
I also use lifters with a hole on the head
And it's a 2276
how much for that engine
Like 15
@@volkstroke Grand??? 2276 is a sweet power plant but 15? I guess if ya wanna be in the upper percentage group.
@@yettimannettii2039 it has really nice parts and now days just the carburetors will set you back 3 -4 k and heads another 2 it’s a slippery slope this engine has a 1600$ crank
your running a hot side // check carb- on cold side
I don’t know what thatnis
Do you have to do a long break in for the cam like other solid lifter car
It’s a solid flat tappet so yes long time to burn in the car on the lifter
Amatør!!!
😊
😘
what brand alternator are you using and where did you get it?
I got this one from SoCal imports
OK. My friend bought I think a 90amp alternator and had problems bolt his fan to it.
I wi take a look at so cal imports website today. Do you have a series number for the one you are using.
No problems ever on my case it’s the only one I use I had aa and empi ones fail on me
@@volkstroke OK thanks for your comments. I think it's set I am going to buy this 75amp alternator.
This engine has web86c camshaft on what camblank is it running on and what lifters are you using?
On scat lubalobe idk what blank
OK thanks.
Sounds lovely 🐒🐒🐒❤💚💛
