  • ‘Justin Bieber, Kari Jobe, Jaden Smith Teamed Up For ‘The Freedom Experience’ -Our Thoughts’
This was quite the event, with a lineup that had some Christians scratching their head. It’s not every day you see Justin Bieber collabing with Jaden Smith one minute, then have Chance the Rapper singing the provocative song ‘I’m The One’, then have Pastor Judah Smith share the gospel. And then have Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes close the event with a worship song. There’s a lot to unpack here. Let’s discuss.

I actually agree with the both of you! The whole thing was super confusing, and like you both said, God isn't the author of confusion. Secular music and trying to be like the world isn't Christ like. We're called to be like Christ. We may live in the world but we're not supposed to be like it. I know you guys know that already, but for those that don't, it's in scripture and it's also called being lukewarm. Jesus even says he spits out those that are lukewarm, because that's the worst thing you can be. You're either for Jesus or you are against Him, you can't do both. Justin Beiber, I'm sure he means well, but he is confused himself. I feel bad for him, my heart goes out to him. I really hope he keeps seeking God, and that the lord does a miracle in his life. God can! I believe it could happen. We just have to pray for Justin and those like him who are struggling in their faith, or even non believers that don't know God. 🙏❤

God is not confusing, and that is what is SO STUPID ABOUT MOST CHRISTIANS TODAY! We have most young people knowing fortune cookie sized verses that are detached from the rest of the chapter, or not even knowing what the original word meant. It doesn't take alot of effort. We should never judge the world when our own don't even take the time to know our own religion. I hate how you'll will skim over one verse, but not elaborate on what it might mean. It's not you'lls fault. I apologize, but it's infuriating how the bar is basically set at a level of is your endorphins high. If it is then it's the Holy Spirit, and don't worry about the rest. That's why people fall away from the faith because it's a fake experience that can be recreated in any spiritual context. It doesn't even have to be Christianity.

Ok, I think I had a huge realization just now. Yes, we need to watch the fruit of the lives of those who say they believe but deny God with actions. Many false prophets come to deceive and "even the elect" could fall away (Matthew 24:24). The devil knows the Word too so we need to be on guard just as Jesus warned us. I made my first comment without watching the whole video and it got deleted somehow but I think I prejudged your guys' point of view. I actually agree that if there is deception and an emotional response to a "gospel" preaching that Justin Bieber is a true Christian who can possibly be THE standard, than yeah I see your concern. I think it's better that we be concerned about people being led astray AND people showing an emotional response to the gospel and saying THAT'S IT or THAT'S ALL THERE IS to walk of Christ. We are to set a better standard the new testament makes that clear. Jesus said, "For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:20). And Paul also warns us by saying, "It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation." (Romans 15:20) Let's NOT be wise in our own eyes as the Bible warns us. "But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong" (1 Corinthians 1:27). We need to set the standard for the unbeliever and BE ashamed of having "a form of godliness but denying it's power". Head knowledge won't cut it. Are we unashamed of the true gospel of Jesus Christ? Let's live like it and humble ourselves under God.

In Matthew 7:15-20 Jesus said, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them."

I was personally at this concert and the presence of God was definitely there from my vantage point. Did I agree with everything done, no… but the gospel was preached and people that would never hear about Jesus heard about him that night. Yes we are to be set apart but also this life is a rescue mission to reach people who are far from God and share the good news. If Christians never enter these environments how will they know about God? People need to be told about Jesus and we are commanded to go and make disciples of all nations. God can use anything and anyone and it was an honor to pray for people that were receiving Jesus for the first time that night 🙌🏻

We are to shine our light in the darkness. I remember back in the day I sang before 3,000 people who were there for a secular concert and I was able to bring the gospel music. It was a seed that was planted for sure. God knows and sees the hearts. But in terms of preaching the Gospel the message of repentance goes hand in hand. Hopefully that pastor wasn’t dancing to the other songs but hopefully worshiping and praying for those in attendance to recieve Jesus🙌🏻
May we all shine our light before others and tell of His good deeds to Give God the glory.

About what Paul said about Justin’s platform - I like what Voddie Bauchum said about this. People get excited when “celebrities come to Jesus” because they have big platforms to preach His name but the thing is Jesus doesn’t need anyone’s platform. His name reigns above all other names! He is Lord, He is King and He doesn’t need anyone to make His name big because He already is, the great I AM!

Amen and so very true. Jesus comes for individuals, not crowds, the big shows, the big noise, the bands, yes crowds followed him but they had their own motives for doing it. What is often concentrated on is preaching Gospel, the good news. But prophecy and present time truth is more important. Believing in Jesus is not going to save anyone, its emulating His character, upholding the 10 commandments, prophecy and preaching the Gospel along with faith/works. Genuine worship and secularism must never be mixed and then being sold as the presence of God. We don't need celebrities or famous people to tell us nor lead us to God, Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit. Jesus did say to the disciples we must be sober for the devil is like a roaring lion looking for anyone to deceive. What we tend to forget is, the world is coming to an end, yes the Gospel must be shared but according to Daniel and Revelations it's truth, the unmasking of Satan that is to be preached now. I am glad that these celebrity 'Christians' have found something, is it Jesus, that sure is debatable.

I was in LA all week working with 1dayLA and went to the concert. I was bummed they only talked about “love” for most of it, but was stoked when Judah dropped the Gospel. I felt Justin’s portion was very honest. I saw a man who is being changed by the Lord and is struggling through the sanctification process. Justin looked truly broken and I think it was a very Spiritual experience for him. Definitely didn’t feel that from any of the other artists. It felt like the event was an example of being shrewd as serpent but innocent as a dove. Draw them in, then drop the Gospel. The ultimate bait and switch. I’m stoked that so many got to hear the Gospel, and pray the Lord uses it. I don’t think Justin Bieber is an example of a Christian that people should look too just yet, but I do hope the Lord turns him into one.

I’m so confused as to who you all deem worthy of sharing the gospel and where in the Bible it says God doesn’t work in secular situations? There is not one of us that has not fallen short of the glory of God, yet we are ALL called to share the Gospel, no matter how big or small our platform is. I think any sensible Christian can see Justin has work to do (as we all do), but that doesn’t make him exempt from sharing the gospel. If anything, I find it really inspiring that a person who literally has everything the world can offer, is saying none of these things have ever fulfilled me like Jesus does. He’s not saying he has it all figured out, he’s simply sharing that when he was in the most hopeless and dark place JESUS WAS HIS REDEEMER. I’d like to add that I understand how important repentance and turning from sin is, but you have first grasp God’s love, grace and mercy in order to be moved to repentance.

I kind of disagree with your questioning of Justin's statement of the presence of God dwelling in the place. Of course everyone's emotions are high being in a concert and many of the people in attendance may not be believers, but out of the 20,000 people that were there, you can not say none of them were Christians and did not come to serve the Lord. Matthew 18:20 says "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Just because there are secular artists performing and the possibility of many non believers being in attendance, does not mean the Holy Spirit did not come down in that place. From the many videos I've seen that place broke out into full worship, how could you deny the presence of the Lord in the place like that?

You can say the holy spirit was there for believers, but the unbelievers aren't saved, and don't have the holy spirit. So Justin's "you're feeling the precense of God" was totally out of place. Because you don't have the holy spirit as an unbeliever and hence can't "feel god" moving !

Is it because you see them perform music or smoke weed or whatever else? Do you know that there are people rn that you would call holy who have sins that would make what you think Justin and Chance do seem like nothing? We really have to be careful judging lives we do not actually know much about. If you want to say that it is confusing watching Justin cry about Jesus and then release a song like Peaches, then I'm totally with you. But to go out and insinuate that bc Justin is saved and is sinning means he is lesser is just legalistic. Was David saved when he murdered a woman's husband so he could have sex with her? He had followed God for years and God blessed him and he still did that horrible thing. Was he punished yes, which is one reason why we shouldn't sin. But was David not loved by God? NO. Because God's love is too big to be hindered by humanity. David turned and repented from his sin even AFTER following God. He made mistakes and grew and mature. There are literally countless instances of this in the bible where God shows grace and love to the underserving like me AND like you and Justin. We have to read our bibles and understand the heart behind the scriptures I encourage you to really think about the heart of God in the scriptures as you read. Not so you become a soft grace over everything person; but so you can understand the actual extent and disturbing nature of sin as well as the overwhelming awe inspiring grace of God. He wants to share the gospel but is also pulled by things of the world, and is in a constant struggle of living under contracts and getting signed by record labels which limits what he is allowed to do on stage and on his music platform. We became part of a Sat. night street ministry, walking the streets of 'Chinatown' in our city, offering water, sandwiches and prayer. Many started looking for us to come with the prayer more than the food and water. Some accepted Jesus as their Savior. My feeling is we are to be his 'light' where ever we are and share Jesus WHENEVER possible. Gods says that where we are, he is also, if we belong to him...therefore 'the presence of God'. I don't believe we wait for the 'clean' situation. We went 'TO' the streets of 'Chinatown' because we knew there were many desperately needing Christ....just like the rest of the world. People could have condemned us for hanging out with drug addicts, alcoholics, convicted felons and prostitutes.
I feel we should not worry so much about how we each share the gospel, but as Christians, pray we are able to share our faith more boldly. ✝️♥️

Let’s say the person who supposedly got saved follows the person who helped him get saved do you really think they are going to grow in the actual word of God listening to any of these people. NO!!! Take the supposed pastor Judah Smith. He is a false pastor. Have you listened to him preach? How exactly is the his person going to grow in the True Lord listening to these non believing fools. The only reason he is being judged is because he is a figure in the public eye. We all have many flaws and no one is perfect. I didn't mind the mash-up of Christian/secular music. You can have a 100% Christian based event minus secularism and there WILL always be something that will not be pleasing to everyone. As a Christian, I'm more concerned about hearing of churches mistreat and turn people away if they don't meet all "standards" of Christianity. It's like the idea of "we want to share Christ with you, but in order to do that you have to live up to our standards before we can do that." This is wrong because Jesus knows we are all flawed. That is the purpose of his saving grace and unconditional love.

Do you think we are showing grace by nitpicking at someone who is probably trying to share the gospel more than you and I are? Are we freely speaking about this maybe a little harshly just bc he is famous? He just got saved and is in the process of sharing the gospel when it literally will be detrimental to his career world wise. Yet he’s still doing it. Slowly, and not perfectly, but he’s doing it. The biggest star in the workd who has everything he wants is turning to Jesus. Doesn’t that mean something? Isn’t that the heart we should start with as we critique and comment on how things can be better instead of just being like “that’s lukewarm”? If my friends pointed out that I was lukewarm every time I tried to start a Bible study or preach the gospel or share with my basketball friends, I would be annoyed hanging out with Christians. Just some thoughts. Our hearts in this and the end goal of all coming to Jesus while not sacrificing who Jesus truly is and what he calls us to do is essential. @Roxanna Hunt

@@ceciliaramos2280 Those are harsh words but I feel you. I say this all in love. You sound like you read your bible a lot so what do you make of David? He was sved right? From a young age. The bible refers to him as a man after God's own heart. Yet when God elevated him to be king he murdered Bathsheba's husband so that he could have sex with her. Justin and Chance surely have had a good amount of sex but I doubt they've killed anyone and committed adultery at the level King David the writer of the psalms did. So you knowing your bible surely and knowing this story, ask yourself: was God's love mercy and grace for David deserved? Was it dependent on David's fruit alone? If it was, David would fit under your definition of a non believer and he literally wrote scripture that YOU are basing your certain claims about others you've never met on. Here is the gospel. Jesus came and died for us and rose again conquering the power of sin so that we are saved if we accept Him as our Lord . In this NO MAN CAN boast apart from the glory and grace of God. That means there is no fruit you can give that makes you deserving of being saved. Period. you know no one in that crowd. You do not know if the Holy Spirit was working there are not. Think about what you are implying when you say things like this. If you don't like how they went about the message or the music or whatever please please just say that. But when you jump all the way to the legalism of saying people who aren't perfect cannot possibly be saved you are now literally being unbiblical and you are unknowingly preaching the exact opposite of the gospel. We should want everyone to be saved, even celebrities we don't like. And yes we should be mature and bear fruit as Christians bc yes that IS evidence of spiritual growth. But we also have a responsibility to DISCIPLE others and help them get to maturity and holiness. That's what God does with you when you act crazy and sin right? unless you don't sin? Ever? That's not something you try to do or convince others to do but it is authentic, being yourself. As the Church we need to learn to be who God made us NOT go on sinning but rather be the light in the darkness showing others that Jesus came so that we too can be made Holy. As true Christians we don't fit in and we DO stand out. We are not perfect but we have made the decision each day to follow Jesus whatever the cost. 'All have sinned against God'. The question we all must ask ourselves is "Am I living unto God to let my light shine? Or Am I living for humans to let the enemy steal the light I have in Jesus? 'Choose today whom you will serve'. Hey, Paul and Morgan! This is long. I hope you read it. And actually, I agree with most, if not all, of the things you said. For me, here are my opinions (everyone who will have the patience reading this and checking out the scriptural references are welcome to agree or disagree with me):
    > The world and the Gospel should never be mixed because it indeed brings confusion - and confusion comes from the enemy, but order comes from God (1Cor. 14:33)
    > As Christians, we are not to sing secular songs at all, most so if we are going to preach the Gospel afterwards - again, confusing (Col. 3:16)
    > Sensually, explicit song with cussing? BIG NO (Eph. 5:3, 5:19-21)
    > Yes, Jesus ate with sinners, but He did not go to the place where sin was - Matthew already left his old life and opened his home for his peers to meet Jesus. What does this tell about a changed life? If someone truly wants to follow the Lord, they will leave their old life and no longer dwell or partake in them (so, secular songs? No)
    > This also shows the doctrine and understanding of these "Christians" of what Christianity really is - yes, they love Jesus but they are or may be ignorant of the truths of repentance, holiness, sanctification, purification, new life, etc. It also begs to ask the question, "Who is their spiritual leaders? Who is teaching them and guiding them in their walk with God? Are there any? And if so, are these people "solid" Christians?"
    > It is true - the world's perception of Christianity today is so watered-down, convenient, accepting, progressive when it's actually not - and this is mainly because of unchanged lives that do not show the grace of salvation. Grace teaches us to say no to sin and to live lives that please the Lord (Titus 2:11-12)
    > One good thing: Jesus was preached as the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Phil. 1:15-18) The apostle Paul rejoiced in the fact that Christ was preached even in pretense or in truth. The incorruptible of Christ is the incorruptible seed - the power is IN the Message, not in the messenger (Rom. 1:16)
    > But now, instead of looking into this so much, let's ask ourselves: what are we doing to preach the truth of God's love, forgiveness, repentance, turning away from sin, living a holy life, serving Him and walking with Him daily? Are we evangelizing? Are we teaching people the Bible? Are we praying for people to get saved?
    > Seeing the videos, clearly, the world is very hungry and thirsty for the Presence of God - they want God, they want a changed life, a freed life from this world - so let's do what we can to show them the way and teach them the Truth. Sure, the Bible is not popular, some people would not want to hear the truth because it may be too hurtful for them, but God's Word is what will change people's lives. Emotionalism does nothing - sure, the incorruptible seed of Christ is planted in their hearts, but it will not grow if there is no one to guide them, follow them up, bring them to church, and teach them of this new life that is in Christ Jesus.
    > There is hope for all. In whatever circumstance, He will use everything in our lives and turn it around for good - even if there are these kinds of events that make people confused, because He makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him. (Romans 8:28) And when these people see God's goodness, it is what will bring them to repentance (Rom. 2:4)
    > So, let's keep praying for the world that they may come to the knowledge of the truth, let's stay on Message and let's share the Gospel to people in whatever way we can.

The Freedom Event preached a false Christ and a false Gospel. We heard it in the first line that Judah Smith spoke. He said it’s an event to celebrate our freedom. The easiest way to spot the Enemy working is if it promotes narcissism. The enemy tempted Jesus in the desert with wealth and power and hunger (all things that humans love). The doctrines of demons are all about using Christian words but the message serves humanity’s emotions, stomachs, and power.

I think this concert brings more good than anything, even with the secular stuff going on, God will move. The walk with Jesus is not always a dramatic change from day one (It is for some but not for everyone) The importance of the Gospel being preached is that once you accept Jesus he will never leave you behind, he will work individually with each soul that went to this concert and the process of repentance and conviction will begins.

Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. 16 The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.

I wasn't at the conference, but from watching clips and hearing about it, I love that it happened. I think it was at least a step. For an LA event and in a city where following Jesus is not a thing really, these guys were planting a seed. I think it is important to appreciate what God is doing in the world and in people's hearts, especially very public figures like Justin. It is a way to spread the Gospel message and share Jesus that hasnt really been seen before. Yes, I wish Chance the Rapper wasnt singing a sensual song at this event, but at the end of the day, to a Chance the Rapper audience, if Jesus was preached and presented in a non judgemental and non threatening way (unlike the Turn or Burn preachers) I am for it, and I am for celebrating these unusual kinds of wins as well for the spreading of the Kingdom.

What I don't like about this critique is that the entire show was not technically meant for 'Christians'. This is a secular show.. and I respect the artists and Judah for taking an opportunity to bring people into the faith that may have not otherwise been able to hear the gospel. So yes, it is not going to fit into our little Christian box of what we think the move of God should look like. When I take a step back from my own standards and I look at the life of Jesus I see him making a lot of religious people angry. A lot of believers missed the revival because they chose to follow the letter of the law and missed this spirit. Who are we to harshly critique the move of God? Let's pray for everyone involved, let's pray for people who heard about Jesus for the first time.

"More damage than good" is a great way to be discerning this. We can only look to fruit and a consistency that points to Christ. No one is perfect but I think people want so bad for a celebrity with a large platform to be cool and Christian. God will use anything and anyone for his purposes, but primarily it is the preaching of the Good News of the Gospel. Which brings me to the fact that Judah Smith does in fact do that here...not sure if it was planned or not. He seemed to do a great job in the clips I saw--but there was lots of emotion, music and excitement in the atmosphere which doesn't mean it's bad...all the while giving a live sermon illustration aka the Beebs sitting right next to him. While in general all seems awesome, it still feels a little man-centered with the fame that comes with Justin (not his fault necessarily). He needs to continue in the process of sanctification as best as he can privately since his fans do whatever he does...this is a tough one...it's good to see raw honest struggling while Jesus seems to be proclaimed...time will tell.

Do I agree with how things were presented that night in full, no. However, I do believe its a step in the right direction. I have a slight understanding that Justin is fairly new in his walk. He is a "child" in the faith, so I'd encourage grace above all else. I honor his bravery to speak out in front of millions of people to express his gratitude to the grace and mercy of Jesus. Like you both said, we don't know the heart posture of everyone involved and we were not present. At the end of the day, God is just. He tells us to take the log out of our own eye before casting judgement. So, I'd caution you in how you present your opinions and how videos like this are received. I respect your position of wanting to share the entirety of the gospel and I also empathize with your frustration (Morgan). But, as your sister in christ I challenge you with these questions (in love): Is your tone throughout this video loving? What is the intention of your heart for this video and do you feel that was portrayed well? Is how you're presenting your opinion in alignment with the character and nature of Jesus? I rest in the knowledge that God did have his hand on this - he uses broken people and broken circumstances. Should they be accountable and questioned, yes. God will. I pray that God will be glorified. Much love for you guys.

Thank you Paul & Morgan for your serious and in-depth take on this. Although we would hope that many seeds were planted at this event, the fact is it may cause more confusion than clarity. We are progressing to more deceptive times. The Hollywood types will sadly use Jesus as a label to create more confusion, leading more people astray. If they really wanted to lead people to Jesus, they would have talked about repentance, they would have told people to read Scripture. Thank you both for taking this seriously. Sending you love and prayers 🙏🏻💖

The topic of critiquing Christian events can be controversial and looked at as being judgemental. I'm so glad people like you are willing to open a dialogue, not to judge, but to come alongside other Christians and say, "We all are or should be seeking the Lord with 100% of our being, does this representation of Christianity help or hurt that? Or hurt the gospel message being preached?" These types of grey areas are great to open up, talk about, hold accountable to scripture where applicable and show grace and encouragement. You guys do a great job being authentic with how you go through your mental processing as a couple with a goal of seeking the Lord's face. Blessings.

I appreciate that you guys made this video. I've struggled with this and took in what you guys said. I want to believe that people who went to this event and saw what happened there started to read the bible and have a relationship with the lord. We all know the natural desire of man is sinful ones. At that event, I can believe that the Holy Spirit moved hearts, but what was portrayed as an example at that event was not true Christianity. It was not a life that has their eyes on God. Never the less We don't know possibly there are some people that did change their lives and fully commit to God. But even if that is the case the people who were a part of this event will be judged for portraying Christianity in such away.

God has chosen to give him a platform to influence the masses & he is doing his best to use that platform to reach people for the Gospel. Is he doing it the way I would chose to? No. BUT he isn’t trying to reach church people he is trying to reach the unchurched. I also think we as believers need to do some self reflection that us constantly criticizing him every time he tries to be faithful to the Lord is probably why he made the comment of I’m tired of religion. Imagine being a celebrity, in such a anti God culture being constantly criticized and the Christians are also constantly criticizing you… when we are supposed to here his brothers & sisters.
