I've got a K8 1000 that I've had for 6 years, you might be interested to see how it compares to yours as I've done some modifications that you're tempted by. One of the biggest differences between new bikes is the gearing. Stock they are geared to do 101mph in 1st, which may be why you're finding it a bit flat. Mine is the following spec:
- Arrow cans and decat pipe
- Cresent/Micron headers
- R&R remap 173rwhp 81ft lbs
- Ohlins TTX shock
- Ohlins steering damper
- Kais fork cartridges
- HM plus quickshifter
- Brembo RCS M/C
- Brembo radial clutch M/C
- R6 monoblock calipers
- Brembo discs
- -1+2 gearing (I think, can't remember what I ordered now)
It's a completely different bike now than it was stock. Also in regards to flickability, the 190/50/17 rear is a tyre no manufacturer uses, and stepping up to a 190/55/17 will make it turn in quicker with a slightly taller sidewall and should help flickability too.
Either way, you can't go wrong with a K8 IMO!! Keep it up
👍
My 1000 k7
Spec:
• Set of forged magnesium alloy discs Marchesini
• Carbon air ducts, hager, pad on the pendulum and frame, under the tank, footrests, made to order in RSE
• Yoshimura dual exhaust
• Extreme Tech Rear shock absorber
• Set of monoblock front brake calipers Brembo M4
• Set of floating front brake discs Galfer
• Brembo RCS 19 Corsa Corta front brake machine
• Rizoma driver and passenger footrests
• Set of sliders and LSL weights
• HealTech X-TRE ignition delay shutdown unit
• Galfer Reinforced Hose Kit
• DID ZVM-X G&G Chain
• Zero Gravity Racing Double Bubble Windscreen
• K&N Zero Resistance Filter
• Sunstar 45 Rear star
+ every little thing
Unbelievable that a dealer would sell a bike with 10 year old tyres on. I guess they can’t be worried about getting negative feedback. Looking forward to the vid series. 👍🏻
Sounds like superbike factory
@@Bow-to-the-absurd doesn't it just. I looked at a bike online a while ago and it didn't show much damage in the "detail" shots. But then the close up video showed the detail bits slowly, then whizzed right passed some obvious panel damage, so I enquired for close up shots of areas and provided screenshots of the video.
All they did was send me a link to the page I'd already seen.
I asked them again, explaining again that I can see panel damage vaguely as they flew passed it pretending it wasn't there but I wanted to know the extent of the damage before I travelled and they didn't even respond.
I knew I was gonna be buying in a fixer upper, but if they can't be honest about damage and try to hide obvious stuff, then what else are they hiding!?
I'd now never ever touch a bike from there ever.
Older bike series? So much YES!!! Keep the K8 manual, Chopsy. Pure, analog, unadulterated fun! She's a sex machine. Glad to see no buyer's remorse. 👍👌
❤❤
She is such a beautiful bike. Sounds like there is so much stuff to look forward to this year on here. It is better than TV. LOVE IT!
Love how it still holds up decently compared to new sports bikes, it’s a lovely example chops. Ride safe 🏍
Cracking vid LCR always enjoy your content buddy. Looking forward to seeing videos on the older bikes, not everyone can buy a new bike every year.
Nice one Chop's, glad to see the GSXR is all you wanted it to be... Really looking forward to the RD500LC & RG500 rides outs as will because they are my dream bikes too....!!
Great vid, looking forward to seeing your progress with this one as I have the TL1000R and love it to bits, keep the updates coming pal 🏍🏍🏍👍
Check the head stock bearings.. a little play there will give you a ‘brake judder’ at low speed 👍
Yes great tip thanks 👍
Definatly sounds like the headstock bearings causing the judder
Wrote the same thing then saw this 😂
@@LambChopRides brake judder.. silicon eeeerverywhere... brake clean.. eeeeeverything especially the pads now.. that silicon crap will cook on when it ages to go opaque... its horrible crap
Gixers are known as wheelie machines, so would be no surprise the head bearings are shot
Great video chopsy, love the content as always, congrats on finally getting the gixxer out for a blast 💯👌
Great video chops . Looking forward to the mods and you riding older bikes . We can't all afford new machines . Gixxer's forever 😁👍
Had me a K5 and just loved it, low kms and still had the stock pipe which was fine by me, quiet around town and really howled out country. the only big mod i made was to put a Brembo brake master cylinder and braided brake lines and she was good to go.oh i also had the suspension serviced, new oil and seals and i was a happy camper cant wait for the rest of the series Chops, Love that generation of bikes, keep up the good work mate
Nice vid & bike. Also got a nice long to-do list there as well I see Chops lol. Will be a very interesting & worthwhile build series no doubt culminating in a simmer track day hopefully. Looking forward to it.
A very pragmatic first ride review, can hear it in your voice. Some bikes blow you away as soon as you set off on them and others grow on you :). Hopefully with some tweaking you'll get the wow-factor!
Come on Chops! We're the same age and have had a very similar biking history. Don't go all soft on us and keep moaning about the lack of a down-blipper, rev-match yourself and enjoy the interaction with the bike (and don't become down-skilled into the process! ;) :D ) I do like a QS for up-shifts, but want to do the rev-matching down-shifts still myself! :) Good review, shows just how little of the electronics suite goes towards enjoyment and usability of the bike, if you know how to ride.... Obviously, electronics make you faster on track, but unless you're racing, and pushing that hard, who really cares? :)
He is crying for nothing he he
Yeh a lot of moaning and whinging gon on there bud , your like an old woman, get on the bike and enjoy riding it
Even bikes in the sub 11-grand territory these days have transmissions and linkage so good, downshifts can be mostly instant and seamless. Just steady the throttle with barely any engine load, fan the clutch with a quick squish and that shifter drops at the toe seamless, engine jumps instantly to the lower gear RPM and you're all back with the clutch released and ready to either engine brake or blast off. Get a feel for this method under varying engine loads and you can be cruising at highway speed in top gear, in a couple seconds simply BLIP BLIP BLIP (down three gears in less time it takes to say "three gears" without any unsettling the chassis or smoking the clutch whatsoever) and WHACK the throttle off into the sunset with solid power.
A clutch is a wear item, just like tires and brake pads. Don't be afraid to slip or fan it a tad, you don't need full-off disengagement, a big upset in power, a big lurch in chassis, a big gap in traction, followed by a slipping to match engine RPM to change a gear.
I love my k5, it came to me after 7 owners and in is fantastic condition with a full yoshimura system and white wheels, it’s now in its forever home 😍
7 owners 🤯
Very nice Chops.. look forward to the build series and the rgv and rd 500 bikes from when I was kid amazing
Brilliant can’t wait so much to look forward to
Like the guy said earlier, a good scrub of the discs with scotchbrite and brake cleaner can work wonders - certainly did with my Guzzi, defo worth a try before shelling out on new ones. Also get a gauge run over them to see if they're running true. Great entertaining vid as usual, looking forward to the next chapter!
For a older bike I think that it looks better than some of these modern machines for sure.
I've always had a soft spot for the GSXR from way back in the day as Suzuki have always had competitive solid machines ......even though they haven't been up there with their development as of late......they are still legendary.
Great review again Chops......can't wait to see what you've got planned for it. 👍😊
Thanks Dean 👍
Brilliant as always Chopsie! Yes the quicker throttle is a must. I did a 2008 R1throttle tube on my K9 GSXR1000, way better. Cant wait to see the Gamma ride!
This is going to be a great series with the K8, and the retro/classic/old nails....will also be great: a real point of difference for your channel - you're going to be a busy boy!
Thanks Gary 👍
Look forward to hearing what you have to do to sort her out.Good luck.
I had that problem with brakes before. And fixed by cleaning and copper greasing the pins which hold pads, They was dry so it drag pads on and of when start braking and stop that if you put more pressure to the brake liver. Great to see some older bikes on Your channel.
So looking forward to the ride after the updates, you have me checking out GSXR now.
Decent bike chops, you’re getting carried away with the mods already lol. Looking forward to the older bikes.
Great video Mr chops
Bikes gonna be the nuts with a few tweks 😁
All the best to you
Looking forward to the retro bikes 👍
Thanks Michael 👍
Great vid! Who doesn’t love taking their new toy out for a blast (to Winchester!)! 😀
Looking forward to the adventures you get up to this year on it. Bought a K7 750 last year as a track bike
Dream bike riding sounds incredible! Great you’re getting that chance.
Get it in the garage and let’s see what you do to her.✌️🍻
Hey dude you just popped up on my feed I have owned a k8 and currently own a k7 I’m in the process of cleaning up a bit. I enjoyed you content. Congratulations on joining the gsxr bros!
Thanks Rhys 👍
i think a few minor additions like others are suggesting will make this bike awesome! Liking this series
Chops I’ve gone back to an older bike form newer ones ie R1, mt10.. I sold them and got myself a 2014 fireblade, it is what it is I use it for pure fun on a sunny day the throw it in the garage at the end of the day and don’t worry about it.. clean it put fuel in it and just enjoy it. Simple motorcycling but as much fun as you can have on the roads in the south east of England 😎
My first bike was a GSX-R600 K8 so looking forward to this! I always wanted the 1000 as the 600 isn’t a great road bike, it’s too flat until at least 8k but I loved the bike and always thought the 1000 would be amazing although these days I ride a S1000RR.
Nice vid chopsie! As always, just a point on the slight knocking you have, if it's going over bumps when you hear it, then it may be down to your steering dampener, I had this on 2 of my gixxers. 👍😉
Beautiful bike which could be easily and relatively cheaply upgraded. I’m extremely jealous of the upcoming test ride.. my absolute dream machine!
Stonkin bike chopsy.. Looks and sounds amazing.. Look forward to your subtle changes... 😉👌
Keep, the twin cans… looks awesome and no problems with MOT, police or noise on track. Spend time and money on the suspension and brakes plus the gear emulator and power commander to open it up a bit.
You will not regret riding the RG500 Chopsy, I had a G reg 89 plate that I had in black, red and white, I regret selling it to the day, despite now having an S1000RR, I still miss it, crazy but true, the power delivery, the smell of full synthetic 2 stoke was intoxicating and those 2 upper and 2 under pipes from the square 4 smoking on start up were immense and very very satisfying ......... sounds like an awesome series mate, looking forward to it
Having owned my all black k7 thou for the past 5 years, I can say without a doubt, I don't need any other bike, this bike has it all, power, handling, looks and grace, I've recently ditched the twin arrows for an M4 streetslayer exhaust, and noticed a definite difference in the power delivery now that horrible cat has gone, my next things are a pc5, a brembo or hel master cylinder, and some new tyres, then it will be even better, enjoy the new ride chops 👍
Great video I’ve got exact same bike brought it bran new love it love the views.
Love this old bike series! It was either K5 or Gen 1 ZX-10R, both great bikes I just prefer the looks of the ZX and it has more sentimental value since my first bike with the original Ninja 900, the bike that started it all. With that said the '86 GSXR1100 has a special place in my heart :-)
I owned a new k7 thou and modded it to death and the best mods were swapping the forks with k tech internals .fitting a WP rear race shock. Full yoshi exhaust system. Velocity stacks and pc5 yamaha R1 front calipers (huge diffrence in performance) braided brake lines ... one of my fav bikes I've ever owned !! I have a vid of it on UA-cam with a silly loud exhaust before I fitted the yoshi system and i fitted galfer wavy discs front and rear and rear sets and a diffrent cam in the throttle and lots of carbon fibre 👍
Looking forward to this bike’s build series👍
Like it ! Maybe £500 might get it up to date ? New rubber, discs, engine mapping, power mod ! It's not that far beyond what £20k+ will get you today ! Good stuff thanks for sharing
Yes £500 quid and she's going to be absolutely awesome 👌
She's a beauty Chops! Take it back to the dealer about the marks! If you don't ask!!!! Hope you keep the looks all original with the mods? Love the paint scheme and standard look.
Mate loving this series, I will be following this road to track journey ..I have a pc5 and a quick action throttle and a 1 tooth lower front gear if you need.. just hit me up when your ready.
Good first ride out on the bike video and great to see you back on the GSX=R Lamb Chop.
Thanks Lyn! 👍
Congrats on your NEW ACQUISITION THERE'S NO GREATER BANG FOR THE PERFORMANCE BUCK THAN A BIKE🏍️
Haha knew you'd chop it up chops! Love a last gen GSXR, perfect low cost track weapon..
'Splashing the cash dreams'.......Your loving it already. Haha, Totally worth it.
Some good stuff coming on your channel, the 'Retro series' is a great idea. Don't discount the 90's though, the 'Analogue years'.......Thumbs up from me.
Thanks Dave 👍
I'm looking forward to seeing the GSXR mods Chopsy and the older pre rider elec aids bikes series is a brilliant idea. These bikes more relevant to most owner / riders and still brilliant fun to ride. ((VFR750 RC36 owner).
Digging the Gixxer look on ya. A good Analog choice for Road and track. Good times!
Voluptuous and girth 😂 thought for a minute there I was watching one of those dodgy websites. This is going to be epic I cannot wait to see you on that RD500 and what a Brucie bonus he has an RG500 too 😳. The gixxer is a beauty so she is love the look of the older bikes they just do it for me 👍
With a Ecu flash the low end mid range and topend will come alive even more.the Ecu is restricted very heavily in the Gsxr especially with the secondary throttle maps.great gearing for this bike is 17/45 if you weight over 160 and 17/44 if you’re under.a BMC air filter is recommend with full exhaust for this bike.these bikes can produce 170 whp stock motor with the right bolt ons and setup.great video 🤘🏽
Definitely would look forward to a RG500 review in the warmer weather Chops!
Great flashback. I had a k5 for years and loved it. Only problem was keeping it corrosion free.
Chops on a gixxer! Little slice of squid! Nice video! She has a few blemishes but still an awesome bike! I'm looking for one now
with the blue tank and white wheels! That will be the one i keep! Stay safe out there!
Very nice young Harold ..
We like the old ones . 👍🏼
If you can, dyno compare this with the new one. There would be timing retarding on the first few gears so get the plug for that for more low/midrange in 1, 2, 3. Go a lithium battery and single muffler to lose easy weight.
Had one of these since new, probably be the last new vehicle I will ever buy, so figured it was worth keeping. Over the years I have added a flat bar conversion (dodgy wrists), full Arrow system, PCV, 1 down on the front sprocket and 2 up on the back plus a taller 55 rear tyre...plus a speedo healer. I love it and it's plenty fast enough for what I need. Oh, and 'Analog' is probably the best description rather than Classic or Retro ;)
Great little first ride review John, I think a build series is a pukka idea 👌
Def appreciate your thorough bike reviews from over in the States! By the way, where do you film your videos? The roads and surrounding scenery is absolutely beautiful. Keep up the great work 👍
Still a thing if beauty, only miss ABS! Thanks for taking us along LCR
Thanks Iain 👍
@@LambChopRides Forgot to add you'll love the RD500 (bought one new in 1985 and wish I never sold it) never owned a RG 500 but had a RG400 import from BAT motorcycles in 1990.
No electric start on these babies just a kick start, watch the 16" front wheel and narrow rev band and you'll love them!
In regards to the midrange, the k7-8 gsxr ecu stock has timing retarder in all the lower gears, If you decat and then get the ecu flashed you could have that sorted out.
I remember when the RD500 and RG500 first came into the dealership.... I watch them be prepared and run for the first time .... There was nothing else that gave you that feeling of excitement especially the RG !
Love the bike shame about the warped disc .. probably time to rebuild the calipers also !👍
I've always fancied an RG500 as my one "retro" and 2-stroke bike (being too poor to afford one when they came out (I was only 16))
Older sportbikes in decent condition are as rare as hens teeth these days, good for you. I also agree with your opinion on road salt. I usually wait for a good rain before heading out on the highways in spring.
Good updates planned but don’t compromise the well-rounded nature of the Gixxer which I think makes it a unique sportbike.
Yes indeed Paul good point 👍
I love it, make a series please
I had a 2008 Gixer, the all black one. Bought it new and I sold it last year with 38,000klms on it. It had a full Yoshimura system, ECU flash, black screen. I never had it on track day but some of our very quiet, long straight roads I hit 296kph on it and 1100rpm shy of redline. I sold when I hit 63yrs old as I can't bend like a pretzel to fit on it. After I sold it, about 2months later, I bought a Royal Enfield Continental GT. Fun bike but no long distance bike, I have a HD Street Glide Special for that. So for my 64th birthday I bought, brand new a Suzuki GSX-S1000F. Pretty much the same feeling bike just sit upright a bit more. Oh on your Gixer pay close attention to the fork seals. I had to replace both. No brake problems though
I too have a gsxs-f and it’s amazing. All the power you can use on the street. Basically stole it for the price too 😎
@@Coldestaevadoit I did as well. I got it as I couldn't wait till the GT got here in Oz, not due till June or July. I think I the GSXR for $14,999 and the F for $200 more including on road costs.
Love the look of these bikes
Loving your new gixxer choppy it’s awesome.
Love the retro rides idea. I just picked up an '04 Nicky Hayden SP-2 with 14k miles riding on 12yo Dunlops. Bought it based on pictures from a dealership in Pennsylvania and then had it shipped to Hawaii. Hey come out and ride it here on Maui! Haleakala hwy is like a mini TT or a Pikes Peak. Good fun. Cheers.
Awesome… RD500 and RG500 … that will be one awesome video(s)… the whole series will hopefully be worth the wait… not everyone can afford new metal plus nostalgia for those who owned one of the featured old bikes. I had RG’s, RD’s including both a RD500 and a RZV500 (alloy framed RD500), KR1 etc etc.
Brilliant James I can't wait to ride them 🤩🤩
LOL Nothing wrong with that bike compared to today's. Lots of people still prefer something without the electronics. As far as what to call it: Gixxer 1000. That's how it's known in the streets. I'm not really a Suzuki fan, but when someone says they have a Gixxer 1000 I'm always happy to see one.
She’s a sexy blue beast, buddy! Voluptuous and curvy K8💙 She’ll make a great track weapon. Get those front brakes sorted, some new Dunlop shoes, a sprocket swap, and that mid-range tweaked. And you’ll be laying down Rossi lap times. You made a great purchase, happy for ya, Chopsy🔝🎥🎬🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes can't wait to get her all sorted Mike! Just need some garage space to work on her. Bloody Tuareg and 300 gasgas taking up all the spare room 🤣
Enjoyed the video. Lovely condition. Try cleaning the disc bobbins. That should hopefully alleviate the judder you are experiencing
Really love the twin cans.
I wish Suzuki would revert back to two smaller ones instead of the giant single dustbin they currently have.
Weight and flush looks so much better than 2 big cans
I absolutely loved my K8 brilliant bike. The knocking is the floating discs mine did it and my mates
OK interesting.. I've ridden other bikes with floating disks and they should do this.. maybe they just warp easy
I'd call that a real one. Noughties bikes FTW. Fuel injection so no E10 gunked carbs, but no Euro p*sh.
Love my 01 Ducati 750SS, the sound with twin remus cans and the clocks look like a Spitfire. Bellissimo.
loved mine... best mod -1 tooth front sprocket at 10K it points at the sun lol... transformed the ride. Had the brake rotors replaced under warranty 2 months from new
Such a beautiful bike and color
I’ve just picked up a k6 one owner from new and love it
A bike I would love but it's the 750 k7/8 I always fancied however this would be another option I love the lack of electronics and other stuff its a nice honest beastie 💯%
Any casual passer by who didn't know bikes would think that a brand new bike. The slight paint coating and marks you point out are teensy grumbles. Seriously, what a beaut! I been looking at similar year MV Augusta F4's, and, like this, most of them are in immaculate condition for their age. But, I never considered a GSXr, so am watching this with much interest.
Hope that's not BvG's old bike - might want to check the pipes for rancid water 😀
Great video as always, and a stunning bike - I got excited after your original post, as I found a similar nice example; but it must be the one you purchased boooo
That's a very sexy machine 😍😍 congrats on the purchase, hope you enjoy the hell out of it.
Heard your channel mentioned by Missenden Flyer, can’t believe your a local boy! Big up the PO postcode boys!!
Haha oh yes! 😁👍
First two easy things to do before thinking about getting new discs are to clean the discs with some fine-is sand paper or scotch-brite and obvs brake cleaner, brake dust builds up and can cause judder, it looks like the discs are older than the pads, poss not cleaned when new pads were fitted.
Also make sure the front wheel is aligned correctly, as many people (even some mechanics) fit them without aligning before doing up the pinch bolts and that can cause judder too, rare but possible. Also saw people saying it could be your headstock bearing, at least that is easy to check without pulling it apart
Great tips I plan to check all that stuff thanks 👍
Best way to describe - Modern Classic.
Check the headstock bearings if you’ve got a slight knock and break judder also R1 throttle tube if I remember rightly will give you a quick action throttle
Great video Chopsy, I have exactly the same bike. Bought it new in 2008 as a track bike, has a full yoshimura system and on track also a Yoshimura EM Pro ECU. Had to remove it for street use, if anyone are interested?
The bike lost lots of power/Torque in the middle range with the std. ECU so it need a flash. Gearing gets much better with-1/+1 , a specially with a 55 profile tire . Helps the steering a lot, same with a good steering damper. I have Hyperpro forks and a re-valved rear shock with a progressive spring, made a big difference on the track 👍🏾
By the way my bike has only 2000 miles on the clock 😃
Sounds great Olga 👍
Excellent!
Great video chopsie, looking forward to the series on the gsxr. However for the issues you have noticed why not take it back to the dealer??
Loose head bearings can give that brake judder you describe. In the garage hold the front brake on and rock the bike back and forward. If it's the bearings it can be felt through the top yoke.
Have a look at a throttle tube from a 5vy R1 (04 - 06), if memory serves that will make yours q\a.
Looking forward to the series on this bike.
I made a Lamb Chop thingie and bought myself a used bike, a R1-16. It's been on it's side but after rebuilding it, ...can hardly wait until the snow will disappear. Living in Sweden.🥶
Those Exhaust!🤤❤️
That coating you’re referring to that came off your bike.. it’s your first day excitement gloss coating coming off your own eyes..😁 It’s still a beautiful motorcycle! Maybe even gorgeous.
Bike has 3power settings on lhs bar ,,read that an R1 throttle tube get the quick response you need ,, warped disc not give you a pulse at the lever ,, probably look at the head bearings ,,on the beast you put a translogic quick shifter ,, brilliant stuff glad to see you like it ☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
In the noughties the bikes were naughty. Pre electronic add ons are cool but the riding experience is raw in the 2000's. Another £1500 to get the bike modernised and a front brake caliper rebuild may sort the front end juddering out its gonna be cheaper than new discs and there may be crap in the brake disc bobbins. Whatever you do Crack on bruv also another great video you done too.
