I'm actually okay with the Japanese scripts for both Colors and Lost World. There are still some weird moments in both of them due to being written in English first, but they're far more bearable in Japanese. Though its unfortunate that regardless of better scripting, the games still get hit from having pretty straight forward and uneventful stories. Which isn't really bad, just disappointing. Lost World could've benefitted from having world building weaved into it's story since the Zeti are based on Oni from Japanese mythology. Eggman arriving on the Lost Hex already had an idea of what he was getting into upon landing which implies that the Zeti species is documented on Earth. With that in mind, they could've taken the angle of associating the Zeti with humans since humans haven't been relevant in the Sonic series for a while and within Japanese mythology Oni have stories that relate to how they interact with and perceive Humans and how Humans perceive and react to them. They could also double the usual tropes in Japanese mythology with the Zeti's technokinetic abilities and general understanding of technology.

While Sonic in japanesse is a nice guy who worries and gives credits to his friend, the english version makes him to act like a jeak or similar to that in many cutsenes.
I mean, I thought that in Japanese they were going to make more drastic changes, but it didn't happen, even so I appreciate the elimination of the "over compensate an insecurity with factories"
That's genuinely what I have been thinking a few hours ago. Especially with how they have reappeared time and time again, it sucks that they never elaborated on any of this. There is so much lore to be written from what the Lost Hex is to what Zeti are, what happened to them and why these 6 are special(Like, are they social outcasts for their evil or are they evil because they got cast out for being onedimensional?). We know so little about Zeti that we don't even have a clue if the electromagnetic powers are a superpower or if everyone had them. It in hindsight makes a lot of sense that the JP localization just went with "these are demons, don't ask".
@@lpfan4491Ian Flynn has said he's been interested in writing other Zeti (including good natured ones) and is even being encouraged by Sega. But he's wary because of the Sonic fan base's opinion of them

Man, I forgot just how little they did with this story. Like, there was so much potential for the Zeti shit, and there was just...Nothing.
