I have the same aircraft and board but my horizon always drift before the end of the flight in auto level modes. Only flown it 3 times. Any ideas? It’s not trimmed in manual mode yet
Have to get it flying perfectly in manual first. I have never noticed any horizon drift to be honest. Maybe I dont use those modes for long enough. I'll look out for it
Well timed, Sir. I just received parts for my next iNav build, including the F411 you used on the big Dart. I'm normally keen on using the Omnibus FC's, but decided to give the Matek a shot based on your coverage of it. Normally my builds are bank-and-yank, but this new Drgonfly V2, (an updated Hobbyking Skipper) has a rudder so my go-to Omni F4 Nano is off the table with it's 4 PWM outputs. So far, though, this little F411 is great, especially the vertical USB for fixed-wings (my first iNav build without 270 degrees yaw reorientation!). Thanks for the review. I noticed your Taranis getting pretty upset about RSSI, with your plane about 1.5km's out. I tend to get about the same range on my quads, with the FrSky XM+. I'm hoping to get a little further out than that with the new build, with the L9R receiver on stock Taranis internals and antenna. I was curious, which receiver is your Dart a la Grande using, an X4R? Is that the range you would expect out of it? Thanks again, bud.
Love the -WSE! Are you over driving the pan servo through iNav? I love how easy it is to get extra rotation by just changing the Outputs tab servo motion from 1000-2000 to 800-2200 :)
@@AndrewNewton same here with my 2.4 FrSky gear, switched to R9 in January and have enjoyed every minute of it. Fly all my quads on 10mw power and I still have more then enough range to fly them all over my neighborhood or park. for planes I use 100mw, and have done 4.5 miles on that with a minimum rssi reading of 40ish and average reading at distance of around 65-70. Will never need more and dont have to worry about the 2.4 noise when flying in noisy environments. Now that crossfire had that awesome price slashed bundle, decided to upgrade to that since its practically a better version of the r9 IMO. Never had a problem with the R9 and will keep it till it dies though!
Here in the USA there can be quite a bit of RF in the 2.4 ghz band in urban environments and I have occasionally had momentary issues but no loss of control on 2.4. On the other hand I have yet to have a problem of any kind with FrSky or Crossfire 900 MHz systems unless something mechanical happens like my receiver antenna gets disconnected.
I would have thought the 5.8ghz patch would have gave you a better picture, these small 3.5 turn helicals are the bees knees....will help with any interference you may have got..... Iforce2d also did a review, bit.ly/2B3Svoo
This is going to get me a lot of hate. Don't worry - I'm used to it. ;-) I love Andrew's style, his integrity, his modesty, and his videos, but I don't see the attraction of FPV flying. "Nice plane!" someone will say of his latest model. "Can't wait till you put a camera on it!" Why? I can imagine exactly what you'll see. It's exactly what you'd expect to see. It's the same view I can see with 100% accuracy in my head. The horizon, the terrain, the trees, the speed, the banks, the turns, the drifting... I've been doing it since I was 7. I've always been fascinated by flight. I started out watching seagulls soar over the cliffs for hours at the seaside in England, then I got into tracking flocks of speck-in-the-sky thermalling vultures with binoculars from outside my kitchen door when we moved to East Africa. (My dad was with the Flying Doctor Service in Kenya.) Watching FPV footage, I can imagine what's going on without being on board the plane/ quad/ surfboard/ superbike/ horse/ hat or dog to see it. I can look up, down, and side to side, and I know precisely how everything will appear. It doesn't matter where the camera's placed or how fast it's moving, it's nothing I haven't imagined before, in perfect clarity and with no jelly or drop-outs or whatever. Where's the attraction? I tried FPV with a mate's set-up a few years ago, and it left me cold. I wasn't experiencing anything I hadn't already seen. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I like to see my models from the outside - just like watching those birds all those years ago. Line of sight. THAT's the unique view. Being able to SEE flight and watch how the plane (or bird or thistledown) reacts to the air. After a while you begin to 'see' the invisible air currents. I still enjoy building and flying free-flight planes for precisely that reason. I got my PPL [now lapsed] in a Cessna 172 when I was in Kenya. Trust me, flying FPV with goggles is NOTHING LIKE flying a full-sized aircraft. If you're in a light aircraft or a full-sized glider your whole body responds to the experience. Gravity, balance, pitch and yaw and roll and the feedback from the flying surfaces and the control column and sensing the vibration before a stall - It's totally immersive, not just visual. The sticks on an RC transmitter may be precise, but they're dead, dead, dead. Looking through FPV goggles doesn't even come close to the sensation of flying, and that's why (to me) it will always be a rather hollow experience. Please note: this is NOT a criticism of Andrew or of this video. It's just my opinion. FPV is not a substitute for 'being there'. To me it's an excuse for boys to play with cool toys. Nothing wrong with that, of course; maybe the attraction's related to the vogue for video gaming. But it's nowt like really flying because you're not actually there. It's like watching someone eating your lunch for you. You won't taste or feel a thing...
Great job Andrew...nice flight
Andrew,
You didn't discuss the RSSI low and critical alarms. What's up with that?
Joe
Not a long range setup. Some days we can only get 500m here
My god were soo alike i have the same cam built same servo unit! and a f411 rtg! lol love you brother! Your the man!
That means You're the man too!
You need to try an XM plus reciever...much smaller and 6km range too...Good to see you venture out a bit further...
6km on an xm plus. With what a yagi antenna? Xm plus dies at 3.5km with 150mw jumper transmitter if you Stay at legal heights
True but long range wasn't required for this flight, and I'm too lazy to swap.
@@peterzingler6221 Not on a real XJT Module though...
Wow looks like it cruises much slower and holds a cruise speed with far lower amps than the Talon GT. Launches look pretty exiciting.
Talon is more efficient but not as naturally stable

Oh yes, this little Matek F411-WSE is just perfect
You should see how fast you can get it to go. Maybe 6s. Also what would you say is the best fpv beginner plane?
No a first fpv, plane get a volantex 2000.

Yes, extra mixer line for the pan servo. Not over driving just standard range.
@@philthayer4087 I will say that I had a Fatshark 180deg that would not go more than 180, but a Turnigy one worked great!
great but DVR as you said do 80's TV style otherwise it's really enjoyable
Why the RSSI warnings? It didn’t look like you were very far out.
Rssi depends on way to many environmental factors to compare it.
Very variable RF environment here. 500m max range some days, 4km the next.

Andrew again great job. Do they do a kit version of this to dear for me all up.

I cant see one yet, maybe in the future when initial sales ease down
Very nice, wish i could get behind flying fpv, but sadly just LOs for me, great video
LOS is the best anyway

gotta ask, what are you using for the pan and tilt mechanism holding your camera??
Just an EMax digital 9g servo with a PVC bracket. Camera mount screwed onto the servo arm
@@AndrewNewton ok, and are you using a headtracker with farshark headset or some other company or software?
How far out approximately did you get the rssi warning?
Just went back and looked properly. 1.7km when you turned
What version of INAV??
2.5
Andrew I was looking at your OSD and couldn't figure out what the reading is down in the right corner?
That's is the estimated travel distance in one hour. Changes with speed and of course with flying into the wind
Horizontal wind speed estimate. Too inaccurate to be useful so it's gone now.

If FPV on a fixed wing didn't do it for you, try on a miniquad doing 100mph 1 metre off the ground 😬
I stay away from zohd after my dart exploded and the motor came in rusted to full stop from the factory. Still a nice review
If you don't fly a sloper soon, I'm getting off this channel !!!! enough is enough!
Me too. Wind direction is the problem.
