Hi Caroline, just watched this entire series while stuffed up at home with a horrible cold. I must say I’m in awe of your knowledge and experience to set everything up and know what’s what etc. Glad you found the missing canopy and everything appears fixed for the maiden +1. I look forward to seeing how it goes 😃👍🏻
Hi Sean, thank you! I hope it made coping with the cold a little better. The loss of the rear cover I think really affected the instability of the loiter too. I will show the fixes/updates I've applied to hopefully make the re-maiden a success.
Well done Caroline, a nicely put together video. Flight wasn’t to bad although a little damage but then it is the maiden. Need to secure the nose a lot more as the dolphin comes in fairly fast. Well done.
Amazing amount of technical skill you have Caroline, the damage wasn't too bad all things considered. It was a bit of luck the canopy was on those tyre tracks, easy to follow the tracks for recovery 👍
Caroline you'll get it sorted out, I saw the white hatch the first tie you flew over it but the camera video is sharper than the FPV. Fun video and journey. Jeff in LA USA
Hi Jeff, yes I will make a good effort to make the re-maiden far better. The rear hatch I believe blew off during the launch phase. I zoomed in on that first attempt of a landing and it's definitely gone at that point. Anyway the remedies and re-maiden will make "good content" 🤣🤣
I'd brought the 7" quad for a different reason but it came in pretty handy! I do try and keep my planes 'reasonable' but sometimes, when your building what I hope to be a 6S rocket ship, you need to go for the more expensive bits :)
This being my 3rd Dolphin gave me confidence it would fly well. Of course needing glasses for far sight made LOS a little harder, flying a black blur is not ideal 😆
Hello shit happens no biggie this was more entertaining than many of those big UA-camrs consistently telling you all this verbatim but never really losing their own proof at least this is the real deal anyway great video and I’ll be tuned in for the next
That was tense, my hands were shaking and I wasn't throwing anything!! My personal fave part of the video is where you say "I'll just let it glide" and the wing goes past at 100mph :D I thought you were very unlucky on that landing, it was coming in lovely, with a bit of flair and must have just caught that nose on a tuft of grass that sent it upwards. The real bugger about it doing that on landing is it's very hard to diagnose the issue. Did some part of the O3 unit come away on the throw? We'll never know. Looking forward to the next instalment
The video cut out the moment I picked up the plane from the floor and I'm now of the mind that the link cable into the O3 became loose. I have some learning and modifications to make after that 'landing' to improve the resilience of the camera packaging in the nose. And yes, the Dolphin glides pretty fast :)
40 yrs of rc flying here Caroline, and I still get the shakes lol. I've 2 to maiden , dolphin and dragon 2 , both imav once this weather breaks, best look for your next maiden,
The Dolphin is a thoroughbred of an airframe and the Dragon 2 has a good reputation with it's thick chord wing. I'll def. make mine fly, and from the couple of laps I had whilst shaking and trying to land it, it's going to have a decent turn of speed.
I think the connector to the O3 popped out when I picked up the plane. the next, and hopefully final, episode of this Dolphin build will cover what I learnt from the maiden and the improvements I've made to hopefully improve it. Of course it will also hold the re-maiden.
That was unfortunate! Just had my first FPV flight this week, under really bad conditions but it was still amazing. But what a change after flying LOS for years!
I ALWAYS use Inav Autolaunch on a Maiden.Never had any probs so far.Just double, double check the elevons move correctly direction wise in Angle beforehand.(And...IF it crashes in autolaunch...then its not my fault...its INAV's)🤗😂
For the nose and covers popping off very easy i got rid of the stock magnets and got some 10 mm diameter, 3 mm thick super strong magnets from amazon, also added an extra magnet on the nose. you can lift the complete dolphin at the nose and shake it around, it won't come loose. I'm still on analog with video, been looking at digital and was about to pull the trigger on walksnail, but now with O4 i'm holding of untill there's more info for a wise decision.
That's a great idea! I was disappointed with the stock magnets on this one, previous Dolphins have been really good. Now INAV 8 is out the fix for the arming issue on O4 is in it. I still hope for proper MSP Displayport from DJI on the O4, Mads Tech is pretty sure it will come as it WAS on the beta units.
@@Caroline_Tyler nice! For the nose best to change both sides, for the covers i only replaced the ones in the fuselage or else it will become very hard to get the covers off.
@@Caroline_Tyler i fly manual to get it up and then switch to acro and then autotune. I have never used auto launch and return to home on maiden. also always do a walk range test on fpv for the maiden .. dont forget to save before you unplug with stick commands
All very good points. I didn't use any stick commands here - the VTX switch is controlled by a servo output which is programmed in EdgeTX not to allow switch off when armed. The loss of video I really have no idea on at the moment - I will def. be doing some VTX range tests before the re-maiden. As for autolaunch, I have just learned over the years to trust it, if the plane's CG and control surface throws are reasonable and correcting in the right direction it's really very very good. This is my third Dolphin so I have a good idea on workable throws. Thanks :)
@@Caroline_Tyler I found out the T-Motor VELOX V2808 Cinematic Motor - 1950KV , 60amp esc 32 bit, and APC 6x5.5 Thin Electric Propeller work great with 6s .. easy 131mph fastest is 161mph on fms flash. Only using 1200 mah tattu 150c. going to try 1400 mah 150c to give me a little more time /punch . aka drag setup....
Reward is proportional to challenge. I remain tuned in for the next instalment.
I was hoping this would be the last.... still we live and learn!

Wow all very clever stuff , great work Caroline , very interesting! Enjoyed that ! 🙂👌👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it, I was hoping this series would finish at #6 - Oh well, bring on the changes from these results and the re-maiden.
@@Caroline_Tylerwell il definitely look forward to the re maiden!
Great video Caroline. Great camera on the new bird. I was so nervous watching 👀 😬
@@ladyintheskyuk You were nervous Yvonne? I was shaking!! I'm loving the OSMO Pocket 3 with it's head tracking and radio mic. x
Hey Caroline thanks for that 60/40 tip on the elevons, never even thought about it before Doh! :)
I've found through test flights that a 60/40 split is mainly where I end up, then it hit me the probable reason, leverage! :)
Excellent video and I have only seen this one. I replaced the magnets in the back cover and fuselage so it stays on.
Look forward to the next vid.
That's one of the changes made since.😀

I'm not surprised you were nervous, I feel a bit nervous maidening mine, and they aren't expensive. 😢. Well done on finding the cover!

Good job I crapped myself when you said you had no video after auto launch lol horrible feeling😮
Thanks! I did let out a small expletive!!! :)
@ I bet, I did and I wasn’t even the one flying lol

I think it will! Some changes/improvements before the re-maiden. :)
Very honest review, congratulations and feel bad for the video system, what is the matter? Waiting for your next video of this dolphin 🎉

Oh Noooo super unlucky, here's to the next part
build - crash - repeat Isn't that the mantra ? :D

I saw it, talk about trying to make it hard for yourself. 1st FPV in fog!!! :)

I've also added a physical latch for the rear cover - belt and braces!!!
Geez Caroline that thing is scary, could tell you were a wee bit nervous there.
I'm always a bit nervous when it comes to a maiden. I didn't find the wing itself scary - Dolphins fly so well.
I would say I would have done a lot different for a maiden .
I'm always open to learn from others.
