    It is important to note that plywood is often undersized so if you configure your table saw for 3/4" dados to matchup with 3/4" plywood, your dados will be loose. I think most woodworkers know this but people new to woodworking might not.

    Greg,
    Great set of videos on this channel. You do a good job of explaining and demonstrating TS use and safety. I agree that it is simple to change the brake cartridges when changing to a dado set. But, I do think that you should show the adjustment of the brake to dado set gap after installing the new setup. This is also a simple process, but the documentation from SawStop indicates that this is an important step for the safe operation of the machine.
    Also, like many of us, I wish I had a shop like yours!

    Thank you! VERY well explained! The one thing I was wondering was how to cut a groove without going end to end on a board? I'm trying to cut a 2x4 with a groove that is only in the middle, and I'm not sure it is safe on a tablesaw? I have a router, but am RE-learning how to use that as well.

    What type of clamp did you use to attach the stop block to the miter gauge fence?
    Thanks and great meeting you up in Asheville.

    Hey Greg - Nice video intro to grooves and dados! I'm about to get myself a sawstop - question about the table size right of the blade. Is the 69" table necessary except for cutting sheets? I just don't see using such a large table. You seem the have the 'even bigger' one. How often are you actually using such a large table extention?

    Is the Forrest "Dado King" the dado stack that you recommend?

    I am thinking about replacing my 30 year old Delta with a Sawstop. I see you don’t have the overhead dust collector on your Sawstop. Any particular reason? Appreciate your advice on this.

      SawStop partnered with Gregory Paolini to create this video, which we shot at his workshop. Woodworkers' table saw setup preferences can vary widely and depend entirely on their individual preferences. To find the best setup for your shop, we suggest that you contact our Sales department at sales@sawstop.com or 503-582-9934.

    Great video. You stated saw stop want to use maximum width data set of 13/16. Yet when I try to load dado set of 3/4 dado(12/16) my nut will hardly screw on arbor when flange is added. How do you overcome this problem?

      I know it’s been a year but the manual says:
      “For dado widths larger than about 3⁄8 inch, do not use the arbor washer. Instead, tighten the arbor nut directly against the dado set. Use the blade wrenches to tighten the arbor nut securely.”

  • @alzahraniabdulrahman
    @alzahraniabdulrahman 8 років тому

    You can not put the washer if you install more than 1/4 in dado width.

    Great review, I'd purchase this saw tomorrow but unfortunately I live in Ireland and sawstop won't supply one to me. I wonder if the is a European equivalent??

      Thank you for your interest in SawStop saws. Unfortunately, we have determined not to enter the greater European markets at this time. However, Festool recently introduced their TKS 80 Table Saw that utilizes the SawStop safety system technology. You can visit their website for more details.

    you removed the blade guard? I'm sorry if i sound ignorant, but im not sure if I will be able to remove the blade guard due to shop rules, can i still cut a groove without the knife?

      +Micah Ballard You can't make non through with the blade guard on, on any table saw.

      I have the same question - I'm referring to the two yellow "magnetic clamps". Does anyone reply to these queries? Taylor Johnson entered it over 2 years ago.

    Please excuse me if I sound stupid. Wouldn't the Riving Knife push the wood up when cutting groves? I'm a total newbie and I'm watching videos before I use my first ever table saw. I want to cut a sliding dovetail. Thanks, I'm confused as to why you removed the riving knife for the dados and not the grooves as it seems similar cut as it does not cut the wood all the way through

      With a dado stack you do not use the knife

      Very nice presentation.
      And let me say by and large I am a happy SawStop owner, but you mentioned a sore spot. That is in the last 6 months SawStop is now saying you should not use a solid disk Dado blade.
      I have talked to the support staff and understand their concerns, but the issues is one of weight, or rotational inertia, not style. I am a Mechanical Engineer, so the "legal" warning included with the new dado cartridge did not make sense.
      I would love to see some some reasoned guidance on this matter, that does not revolve around "style"
      Again very nice video, and I apologize for hijacking the thread.
      Regards
      Carl

      Carl, thank you for your reply. We're very sorry that you did not find the answer you received from our technical service department satisfactory. At the risk of repeating what you've already read, the issue with solid plate interior chippers is simply this: because of their weight and mass, this type of dado stack may damage the arbor if the brake cartridge activates. That said, this venue is not the most efficient place for us to support our customers, so I invite you to email: service@sawstop.com with any further inquires on the topic. We'll work hard to answer your questions! Thanks again!

    • @carlslater7492
      @carlslater7492 10 років тому

      I agree with your assessment, however when I asked your support department their response was to weigh a dado stack on a postal scale ( a Forrest dado stack I believe) and the number that was given was 7 pounds. So any "batwing stack" that exceeds 7 pounds would also be an issue.
      That info was enough for me to act in a somewhat prudent manner.... my stack has not exceeded .75 inches and it was ~7.2 pounds.
      I have waited for clarifications on this matter but I have received none (in private or public) .... hence my introduction of the matter here.

    • @sawstop
      @sawstop  10 років тому

      Carl, we apologize that you were given incorrect information! Typical "batwing" dados are between 6-8 pounds, so 7 pounds is well within a typical and acceptable tolerance. Rather than relying on pound guidance, suffice it to say that SawStop simply does not recommend solid plate interior chippers. Thank you again for your time and feedback!

    At 3:15 the work piece is stuck between fence and feather board. At 11:15 we are told the work piece should not be stuck between fence and miter stop. Why is it okay in one case but not in the other? Seem like either one could bind.
