Check out this school bus not stopping before making a right on red (right in front of me) and then what really really looks like running a red light in front of Wawa.
I’m a school bus driver. I’ve never run a red. This is a tough one and I get why they ran it. When they set up routes they time stops based on you going the full speed limit the whole time. They don’t build in extra time. So you have to go exactly the speed limit or you will be late. This light had a short transition from yellow to red. If you slam on the brakes after going the speed limit all the kids will go flying forward and be injured, since buses have no seatbelts. The driver probably thought the light would stay yellow longer. Buses can’t stop like cars when fully loaded and going the speed limit. Unfortunately the driver was in a lose/lose situation.
So treat every green light like a stale light and slow before like in the cdl book says? If it is green when you see it, it will be yellow when you get to it. So slow down if you carrying kids. Safety is over risk.
bulls**t...everyone else can stop for redlights...what nonsense, like the driver's schedule superceeds traffic laws...you should park the bus you're driving before you kill someone
Nah when you're driving with kids it doesn't matter what your time limits are you prioritize the passengers safety first. Don't go as fast if you can't slow down in time. If you can't make the route in the time given you tell your manager you don't risk kids lives over your job
Buses and 18 wheelers stop just as fast as small cars. I’m tired of the BS that they take longer to stop. A bus panic stopped in front of me and I was gaining on it with brake pedal to the floor. Good thing I wasn’t tailgating.
That was Michael, he's only 15 & was driving himself home while his uncle was getting some sleep at the back, Michael's color blind, give him a break, he's bossing it

I had a school bus driver fail to yield to oncoming traffic (me!) when turning left at light. Too bad I didn't have the dash cam back then. He should have been suspended. 😡
Not to play devils advocate. Because that bus was haulin ass'. Thats a problem. Secondly, way back in the day I drove a bus for a university. Flatnose Blue-bird. You cant stop quick, that ass end like come up and meet the front. To me it was a 50/50. Risk the ticket or risk losing control and hitting a car. Seems avoidable to me if they werent doing warp 9 down the road. Like the jeep. I have a red and black unlimited that im constatntly upgrading
Just yesterday I had an oncoming school bus cross the Center line into my lane as he was going around a garbage truck. I had to brake to avoid a head on collision, as a driver examiner I know there is no way that school bus driver should have crossed into oncoming traffic. Fail and Dangerous Action.

Speeding school buses? The number of them that I've personally see tells me that it's more of a requirement than a need.

If you have the bus number, call the school system and turn it in. The school system will know who the driver assigned to that bus is..

Traditionally, school bus drivers have always been the worst, most poorly trained and unmotivated drivers on the road.
School buses shouldn't turn right anyways even if it's legal in their state to turn on red. Only go when you have a green light.

I couldn't tell if the bus driver ran the red light. At the point it entered the intersection, I couldn't whether it was red or yellow.
