Very beautiful pattern. I got a lot about shaping and sanding from this tutorial.
Thank you for your feedback. I am glad this tutorial was of help to you.
Ok saw the whole vid. Once again most of what you were saying I had to learn from months of trial and error... oh well 😀
Thanks for your feedback. Learning by trial and error can be the best way to learn. :-)
As he says, it IS the best way to learn. You can watch video all day long, but you have to practice to get actual skills.
Yes, watching people like Robert DOES help avoid making mistakes though.
Amazing, it faced very well. Perhaps it was the skill of the cutter!!
Thank you, you are very kind. Opal can be quite forgiving. 😀
Awesome video, very informative, thanks!
Thank you for watching, I'm glad this video was of interest to you.
At 1.35 I saw the sliced sections. I know they aren't precious but they were beautiful! You should make picture stone from the waste
Thanks for your feedback. Yes it is nice colour. I should have a closer look but I think it could be very thin. Maybe a challenge for me. :-)
@@diverseopalproducts maybe give them away for us amateurs to practice with?
Hi Robert, thanks for sharing, I wasn’t sure about the black dot, but the pattern in that is beautiful. Could make a nice matching pair for big earrings?
Thanks for your feedback. I am partial to pattern opal. Although I like full faced crystal opal, I also like mixed pattern opal with swirling colour. You are right, I could cut 2 stones for earrings but as I sometimes say in my comments, I will think about it for a while. :-)
@@diverseopalproducts I love both. Having a pattern or picture may make the Stine less valuable, but no less adorable. There's beauty in everything (except perhaps common opal)
ended up a nice looking stone mate
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I am happy with the outcome. You never know what you will get until its finished. :-)
@@diverseopalproducts true mate but with the stuff i get i can say if it looks shit ha ha its normally shit need to find some thing better i think i do
Keep looking there's a nice piece not too far away.
Opals are like a box of chocolates, you never know what jou gonna get😉
@@franktheussen Yes, its nice to get a few surprises. -:)
Very nice!
I recently cut my first Mintabie opals. Interesting challenge. Very fun. Had a couple small but spectacular, bright crystals. The opaque opals ended up with a velvety look with flashes of green or red. Not sure if this is common to Mintabie opals.
Also, colors were a bit different than LR and Cooby Pedy opals I've cut in the past.
Definitely will buy more.
Thank you for your feedback. I am glad your experience with Mintabie opal has been pleasing. Its good to be able to gain experience from cutting and polishing opal from different fields.
I just got my first mintabe parcel off opal auctions. Good looking stuff. Can't wait to grind it but I'm scared of stuffing it up.
@@ThatOpalGuy The way I look at it, ruining a perfectly good opal from time to time is just the cost of learning.
@@bentationfunkiloglio yeah it's always a risk. Until I get the knowledge and practice working with many kinds of opals it will happen. Fortunately I'm working mostly beginner parcels so many of the stones I have aren't worth too much.
Thanks for the video I am learning a lot from you. Which extractor fan do you use ?
Thanks again
Thanks for your feedback. I am using a Baldor Dust Extractor. Not sure if it is still in production. Regardless of using the dust extractor I still recommend wearing a reasonable mask.
Hey ive just got a sander, i was wondering about masks, do i need a proper resporator for sanding opal or can i just wet a rag and tie it around my mouth?
I would recommend you get a proper respirator, it will be more comfortable. You will struggle to breath through a wet rag especially as particles build up blocking your breathing area.
Is this disclaimer at all related to the incident involving the grinding machine you and a friend were thinking on selling?
I think you have me confused with someone else. We have not been involved with an incident regarding a grinding machine.
@@diverseopalproducts perhaps so. My error.
@@diverseopalproducts anyway, thanks for posting this information for us beginners.
@@ThatOpalGuy You are welcome. Glad the information is of help to you.
