Replacing Serpentine Belt / AC Belt & Pulley On 2020 Chevy Silverado.!!

- In this video, I’ll be showing you how to replace the drive belt, idler pulley, and the AC belt. I use the special tool for the AC belt, but couldn’t get it to work for the serpentine belt so I end up doing a trick, using zip ties and turning the engine on for a second so it slips right on. This model truck doesn’t have a tensioner pulley so it is very difficult to put on the stretch belt, but this is how it worked for me and hopefully it works for you!

Thank you for the video. I spent $250 on gm parts, was quoted $300 to $450 for the labor at chevy dealer. Changed in about an hour after watching your video. Thank you once again.
Your welcome glad you did it yourself and had some fun wrenching 👍🏻 🔧
Absolutely a great video on these belt replacements. Thanks for taking the time to produce it.
Great video. Thank you so much for the zip tie idea. It worked better than I could have hoped for
that's great bro happy to help
Thanks For The Zip Ties....
You bet
Had to come back here and thank you for the cheat code!!My belt just broke and my zip ties worked so easy. Again, thanks bro💪🏾💯

Thanks for the video 🙂
No problem 👍
I just changed both belts and the Idler pulley on my 2019 AT4 6.2, she was screaming hard. I have no idea why it was so difficult for you to get the Serpentine belt on. I am by no means a mechanic other than UA-cam videos. First off there is no need for the extra tool don't waste your money just use zip ties instead. I used 4 zip ties to get the AC belt on and 5 zip ties to get the Serpentine. I used a long breaker bar with a 24mm socket to turn the crank shaft no problem from underneath (if you jack the truck up for those of us without a lift it's way easier). Took me longer to guide the belt and zip tie it down than to turn the belts on. I spent a good bit of time cleaning the belt residue off the Alternator pulley (don't forget to do that). If you run into zero issues this is a 30min job max. I called GM to see what they would charge. Their $485.00 job cost me $65.00. But thank you for starting me in the right direction with your video.
How many miles did your truck have before you replaced the belts? I have the same truck and I’m at 96K and my belts are quiet
That’s awesome man happy to help and good advice 👍🏻
Very informative thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Good job
Thanks.
Thanks for videos
It's my pleasure
I used your method and it work the first time. Used 3 tie wraps.
Excellent! Fantastic! Beautiful 👍🏻
Just did both belts on mine a few days ago. Got them out of the way when i replaced my 170amp alternator with a 220 amp oem had to do high amp upgraded junction block with 250 amp fuse snow plow 200 amp fuse kit along with starter alternator cable for 220 amp load . Now if i have any audio or accessories they just go straight in the junction box with a oem fuse no aftermarket fuse holder needed
thanks for the info man
No problem man happy to help 👍🏻
Hey man I install the belt and pulley by turning the bottom wheel with ratchet where zip ties go, when I put everything back from air manifold I notice a puff sound coming out of it every time I turn off truck. Is that sound normal? Idk if I messed up timming by doing it by hand
@@marvintamayo1533 hey I also tried doing it by hand even went back and forth I don’t think that would mess anything up but don’t quote me. Let us know if you figure out wat it is and wat did you do to fix it thanks
@J.A.P.S does yours make that sound when you turn off the truck? If you open hood you can hear it better
Thanks!
No problem! Thanks for the super chat bro 😎
Thanks for the video. I bought mine in 2020 and both the brake pads and the belt screaming. Embarrassing lol
Mine did the same.
no problem man happy to help. lol yes definitely unbillable quality now a days.
En that is the reason of all the new car trucks and suvs the mechanic are really competitive outhere 😂
lol
Cool.
Got an ideal ln wat to do now....thx
No problem 👍🏻
Love your wheels and tires. Are those 20’s. Why size tires? I have a 2020 Trail Boss with the factory 18’s and am ready to upgrade.
Thanks man these are 22 inch Matt black snow flake rims with a Michelin Defender LTX M/S tire also had stock 18’s originally had these for about a year now nice upgrade and they don’t rub 👍🏻
Thanks for the video, how many miles was in your truck before the belt started failing?
Your welcome it was 65K
Thanks for the video 👍🏻 i also have a 2020 silverado its been making a single chirp sound when i start the truck i took it to the dealer and they said it was the belt they put a new one on and still continued to make the sound any idea what it could be?
Possibly a worn out pulley ?
How much they charge you??
@@cristiangutierrez7388 they charged me around 250 for the belt and labor
GRACIAS
De nada 👍🏻
I would try to muse the tool on the alternator the pulley is small not to much of diameter to turn
Yup
I’m assuming transmisión was shifted into neutral to be able to turn the crank over?
I did not 😳😬
Excellent DYI video! How many miles did you have on the truck?
Thank you happy to help it has 63,000 :(
No videos for transmission fluid change yet?
no sorry for the wait still on manufacture warranty can't touch it yet
I already changed my transmission fluid it did fix any problems I had. I can hear that I have a stock lifter as well. It’s gone away after putting seafoam in the motor but I have a serpentine belt I’ll be replacing this weekend and I believe an exhaust leak did I mention this truck only has 65,000 miles what the fuck Chevy
Do you have DFM or is it disabled and how many miles are on the truck ?
DFM meaning ? 63,000 miles
Dynamic Fuel Management Cylinder Deactivation
Does your truck have the 6.2, or the 5.3?
5.3L :)
You in Arizona? I could use some guidance on the zip tie thing.
Yes sir
Yes sir
Do the zipties just break off?
I feel like they would make some damage to the new belt, you can actually see that on 10:19 if I'm not mistaken. Sorry for replying without providing an answer to your question as I am thinking to change belt on my truck as well.
What transmission does your truck have? 8 speed it 10 speed?
8 speed
Ok so the tool does work you just have to put the belt on turn it til it gets tight on the tool and then put your zip ties on the turn it slow took me 20 mins
Good information 👍🏻
How often should these belts and pulley be replaced
wouldn't be able to tell you an exact number of years but when it squeals it's time just listen.
At what mileage did you change the belt?
About 65K
WHT size are those rims bro and tures
The rims are 22 and I have the Michelin defender tires
What the torque spec on the pully
Not to tight but not to lose lol 😆
It has a 62
no it has a 5.3L
I'm about to do my belts on my 2020 silverado. This is my 5th GM vehicle and I can't believe they didn't put a belt tensioner in there. Clown activities 🤡
Exactly
I just did my brakes, PAIN in the A$$, had to take it to dealer that had their way with me in labor n scanning, also did the belts, PAIN in the A$$, but I did use zip ties, truck rides like a steel wheel wagon too, changed shocks, same rough ride, gonna sell or deal it off, GM sure went $hit,,,,, 😡😡
Wow better luck next time man
Your throttle body needs to be cleaned
Good idea 👍🏻
Chevrolet made a piece of crap hopefully your lifters want fail mine did
fingers crossed how many miles when this happened to you bro ?
