  • In this video I will be showing you how I change the front and rear brake pads on the 2020 Chevy Custom Trail Boss Z71 Unfortunately for the rear brakes I tried putting it in brake service mode but it didn’t work so I had to do it manually or you can say the hard way. Soon after I was finished changing the brake pads I figured out how to put it in brake service mode so if you want to see that video first click here ➡️ • How To Turn On Brake S... I also ended up removing the electric parking brake motor to finish compressing the piston all the way in and for better clearance putting back the new pads, I also show you how to remove and reinstall the brake pad wear sensor.

Did you put the truck in "Brake Change Mode" so the pistons are easier to press in? Your suppose to press and hold the brake pedal and parking brake button for 10 seconds or so. I just found that out and I thought is was pretty interesting

I did this with service mode and all and I had several dtc codes lol. Luckily I cleared them and everything started working fine again, no DTCs after 600 miles

  • @86sthet

I just put it in brake service mode. I didn't take the electric parking brakes off like that. I just compressed it and that's it

Thanks for the video man. Only thing I did different was remove the fluid cap in the beginning. When i was done replacing pads I the pulled negative cable and pumped the brakes until firm. Hooked negative back up and started truck, it kept itself in brake sevice mode, put it back to normal. No codes and eveything works good! I did somehow managed not to have to remove the electric motor somehow. Got lucky.

So I'm slightly confused on a couple different resources.. Do the rear calipers require twisting to retract or are they just pushed in?

Springing of clips is really not the issue. Not nearly enough spring force to retract pistons if you can do that by hand. Brake Service Mode is the only way.

I changed my rear brakes about 3 months ago and it took about a week before the brake life reset itself. I'll be changing my fronts this weekend and I assume it will be the same.

Thanks man! Super helpful. Gonna replace mine this week hopefully. Having a noise from my passenger rear pads that I’m hearing while constant driving and I have to assume it’s the pad or clip just rubbing

For the rear brakes, I was under the impression you had to put the car on brake maintenance mode so when you push back the pistons it allows it without forcing it ?

Why the hell did they even put this on trucks .... if your driving a truck you shoukd have enough sense as to how to check your own brakes . Making systems for retards now ...

  • @alvarezz09

anyone know the part number for the plug that he broke at

    How do you fix the

  • @Anvita444

I replaced the rear rotors and pads last weekend. Found a set of pads that came with the pad wear sensor, but also found the sensor for $14 at autozone. I put the truck in brake service mode and also replaced the rear sensor along with the pads and rotors. When I was done I started the truck, took it out of brake service mode, and then the computer asked me if the pads were replaced....I selected "yes" and it reset the rear pads to %100 and left the front pads at %33.

Great video! Thanks for sharing! On another note, it's crazy that the dealer wanted to charge $171 to reset the brake pad life, insane.

I wasnt able to put mine on service mode neither but still managed to change my brakes and rotors but now MAGICALLY its on service mode and cant get it back to normal so now my parking brake.doesnt work because its in service mode any ideas or suggestions? Will the blue driver work for that to take it off service mode or ?
