Just Got the invoice for whole entire replacement, 3k for everything(All) in the Bell Housing, He told me its the Forks A&B inside of the Housing,(From Experience)As you said also! He's a transmission specialist of 20+years, The #1 atleast in my County, Blessing 🙌 I didn't wanna cut corners so let's see after a total rebuild, will definitely keep posted,
It took me, an amateur, 3.5 hours to drop the trans. Probably 1 hour to install the forks and clutches and 3 hours to reinstall so about 8 hours work total. The parts were $580 from Rock Auto.
@@sbarton6908 I've done two cars now and they both shifted like new afterwards. The only tool I needed was something to pull the clutch out. I was able to make a tool for that out of some angle iron by welding a nut into it and drilling two holes for the clutch studs to attach to.
The tool to turn it 14 times cost 20 bucks on Amazon all I did was spray break cleaner on mine while turning it 14 times and after doing that a few times I noticed it would unwind faster and faster and now it works better than ever. Didn’t even have to change the clutch actuator motor after all. I also cleaned out the inside of the shaft where the 14 ribbed Allen key went from any grime so the actuator would grab better and be less likely to slip and presto. Good as new. Even put some grease for better heat disbursement and less chances of chipping. Ended up only spending 30 bucks total and took me 30 mins to fix. I’ve seen some people use wd40 and breakcleaner together and even drilled holes in two places to get it all up in there and drain it too but I didn’t do all that though.
So, let me get this right, instead of a nice manual transmission with one clutch, you have two clutches that are computer controlled. No problem, you're good to go! I foresee no issues in your future!!!
You can buy the manual. But a lot of people want automatic transmissions. Dual clutch is like driving an auto, but they're about 10% more fuel efficient. Unfortunately Ford brought these to market before they were fully sorted. Even worse, Ford dealers have absolutely NFI how to fix these. Many problems like in this video can be fixed by removing clutch actuators and cleaning out the clutch dust with brake cleaner and some WD. 10 Minutes and zero dollars. But dealers and transmission shops charge thousands. Even a new actuator costs about $100 and takes a few minutes to replace.
Manual transmission is the most efficient, but nobody can drive them anymore, so the manufacturers have to make a manual trans that is operated by a robot. So just picture a robot like from the Jetsons in the passenger seat operating all the mechanics while Jane Jetson just steers it into the nearest tree.
This reminds me of a 2 year old Corolla with a locked up electric E-brake I worked on last week. I had to go downtown to an underground parking to release the brake. They couldn't get the car to the elevator to bring it up to ground level for towing. It uses a similar servo and drive mechanism which had corroded.
Nice work! What a strange design. I wish manufacturers would just stick with the old wet clutch style transmissions and get rid of this CVT and DCT stuff!
yeah it seems like every time a technology gets mature and really working well it gets phased out for something that performs better but less reliable. I'd take a DCT over a CVT though because when a CVT goes bad you can't even really rebuild it.
That's awesome, I'll check them out. Hope to see you guys at the next available seminar if possible. It was kind of disappointing not having one this year, hope next year it will resume as usual. Great products you guys have. I use a lot of them.
Wish I saw this 2 weeks ago. Had a 2012 Focus come in and this was my first time doing one of these. Wasn't making that noise though. Replaced clutch without knowing you should replace the shift fork. Even asked a transmission shop next to our shop if I should replace them and was told no. Ended up putting it all back together and it won't let me finish programming. After watching this I'm positive that my problem is the forks. Only problem I've ran into now is resetting the clutch
@@reecejones1248 The only special tool I needed was one I made out of a piece of angle iron with a nut welded to it to pull the clutch out. The forks need a torx plus sockets but I already owned those.
Guys, don’t forget the relay that powers the transmission. Sometimes low voltage between the control and load side could cause all sort of issues. That little thing opens and closes million times during the life of the vehicle.
@Automatic Transmission I was wondering if you Checked and/or Deleted and remaining DTC codes after you finished with the Clutch Adaptive Learning process? (Timestamp 19:35/20:09)

Do I have to strip my transmission box which is a big job and Ford dealer wanted to charge many thousand dollars or just simply turn the clutch fork counter-clockwise 14 turns to fix it like in your video? Your expertise advice would be much appreciated.
I have an 2012 also my problem is after she warms up she stops shifting I usually pull on the side take of negative terminal reset computer start up and then she roll after for a few minutes then I would have to reset again what do you think that could be ?
I've worked on over a handful of these cars and the DTC code I stay away from, I believe is P2837 or P287B. Cause I don't want to take apart the trans to get to the gearbox. I don't mind doing the clutch though.
I've got a P0805 Clutch position sensor "A" circuit & P2872 Clutch "A" stuck engaged on a 2012. Turns out A clutch servo motor will not turn on ignition is turned on (self check) B will turn. Swapped out the servos and problem stayed with A clutch. Dealer says it's a TCM problem ( I think they're right). So now waiting on a TCM. BTW with the servos plugged in and hanging out the self check when turning the key to ignition should make them turn no tools or scanners needed to diagnose.

Sounds like the case might stopper might be stripped. It's going to require a new cover. Do the "shift drum learning ", if it fails you need a new case cover, which is the main case of your transmission.
Which autel scanner u using? Require subscription? Rough price? Any info would be awsome and u can put links in description to the sell of this scanner.. and make extra money.. i will now know in detail what this scanner does and steps to use it to fix my same problem.. thanks for the video
I have a 2015 Ford Focus and my car does not reserve and it makes that sound like in your video. I bought a new actuator to see if it fixes the problem. Now when you turn it 14 times counter clockwise, should it be easy to do because when I tried it it actual spin right back. Am I doing it wrong? Please help!
The reason I performed that particular test was to see if the fork is pushing on the clutch. So if yours is springing back at you it's considered good. On the video the actual motor was the issue, splines worn-out causing it not to grab.
I replaced the Actuator B and my car still does not reverse and still make the noise like it did in your video. I check the fuses box and I disconnected the battery and still unsure what is wrong with my vehicle. If you have any suggestions would greatly appreciate it.
Hello! I have the same transmission in my Smart 453 from 2016, unfortunately I have some error codes in the gearbox, I reprogrammed with a new software but in vain. error codes: U0028,U010187,U010182. Do you know anything about them? thank you

Yo! Thank you for the video. I'm preparing to do this work on my 2014 Ford Focus se. Lately, after 20 min of driving or so, my check engine light will come on, I'll lose Reverse and switching gears from 1-2 and 2-3 are really rough. I've seen on other videos that you can and maybe should (?) clean the forks with Brake cleaner and lubricate with WD-40, I also purchased 2 new actuators just to cover all my bases. My question to you is, do I need some fancy diagnostic tool to do this job? Or can I get by just cleaning the forks, replacing the actuators, and restarting the car? If I need some sort of Diagnostic tool, what capabilities must it have? I just ordered a FORScan tool, will I be able to do what is necessary with FORScan? Any help would be so greatly appreciated man. Thanks!

I am requesting your help from Dubai, I have a Ford Figo with DPS6 gearbox the car goes into all the gears perfectly and moves at idle but the the car wont accelerate in gear the car. The rpms would increase in park or neutral but not in drive or reverse. Can anyone help please? This problem started when the car was put on lift and shifted in drive then it was put down and gears stopped working.
I have done everything you have done in this video prior to even seeing it. I get to 17:51 "touch points" and it basically freezes the scanner (two up to date Snap-on Solus & Modis) and the same thing happens.... Aka nothing. In my case though both of the shift forks are working beautifully. The moment I put the car in drive and touched the gas it triggers a P073f, U1013 and occasionally P0219. I swear to God if I ever meet the engineer who designed this abomination, I'm going to kick him in the 🍆. 🤬 I'm confused as to what direction to go next. The car even moves in D and R, though it moves/slips less in Reverse. No weird/abnormal noises, no clicking or thumping randomly. TCM or Clutch??? Grounds are cleaned. I just can't get it to go through the relearn process without freezing and timing out.

Wow! That's nuts! 1st I've ever heard that!! Haha. On to the rest of the video... I'm up to the part where you think 1 of the actuator motors is bad. My thought, it almost looks like it's shorted to a pulsed power? Now TCM is powered off and all stopped. So somehow backfeeding itself?? Pulsed?? Just so weird. Very interesting case study.
Ok... very interesting...i know I said that. So the lack of being to turn that fork using the actuator was technically keeping the TCM awake? Like wipers trying to 'park'? I see you've stepped up your diag game Hiram. Very impressive! 😍😁😉👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah, these vehicles wake up really easy and fast, if you just open or unlock the door you'll hear the shift forks align to get the transmission ready for once you get in and start the vehicle. They constantly self test and align themselves to power down, as you saw here it was failing to do so. Some of them if they get stuck in gear they wont start, wont crank and if they manage to start they wont move. So if you get one of these with a no crank, wont start issue and everything powers up normal, suspect something is going on transmission wise.
@@AutomaticTransmission have you worked on many fiesta transmissions? What is the most reoccuring problem with the transmission? Is it the clutch plates prematurely wearing out? And stop here 180s and nothing happened
What could be issue ??
I have same issue i change TCM and actuator but still no reverse but drive is working.. oks help me fix my focus.. when i change actuator and scan it it says no communication at all.. how can i fix that
What if I get passed on all those tests? Does that mean I have bad tcm?
Where are you located. Good work
Fun fact Hyundai's 7-speed DCT uses the same clutch actuator splines. Also easier to cannibalize their clutch actuator/ ramp sled to make a tool. 😅
I have a 2015 Ford focus dosent reverse and when i try to do the Clutch adaptive learn it fails at Select gears do you have any idea what it could be?
Sounds like the case might stopper might be stripped. It's going to require a new cover.
Do the "shift drum learning ", if it fails you need a new case cover, which is the main case of your transmission.
Please, do you live in Maryland . I have ford focus se 2016 with this problem.
Which autel scanner u using? Require subscription? Rough price? Any info would be awsome and u can put links in description to the sell of this scanner.. and make extra money.. i will now know in detail what this scanner does and steps to use it to fix my same problem.. thanks for the video
Maxisys Ultra
@@capricefrazier9369 did you manage to fix it?
Hello! I have the same transmission in my Smart 453 from 2016, unfortunately I have some error codes in the gearbox, I reprogrammed with a new software but in vain. error codes: U0028,U010187,U010182. Do you know anything about them? thank you
What was the bad news?
Which autel scanner are you using. I'm tired of my snap-on modis edge
Autel Maxisys Ultra, it has a built in 4 channel oscilloscope, wireless, It's a nice tool.
I retired my SnapOn Verus Edge, I only use it on older vehicles that the Autel wont do, like OBD-1 domestics and imports. I have all the the connectors for them, so if you get an Autel scanner keep your SnapOn for older vehicles if you have all the adaptors.
Thanks!
What did you ended up doing mate?
seriously did the actuators fix the hard shifting
If you're dropping the box and cleaning everything, at a minimum you will need the clutch reset tool
@@schmick63 Hi i hate to correct you but you're wrong. I did the job and didn't buy the reset tool or any proprietary tool.
How could you set the clutch back in place

I’m having a clutch replacement and dealership was able to replace but it won’t relearn the new clutch. I have no idea what to do.
What did you do in the end ?
@@oscarcee6831 they had to change the transmission housing/case, a piece (the “stop” had broke off inside and was causing the TCM to not know what gears it was in, after the changed the case the clutch was able to relearn

What scanner or program did you use on this video ?
Ultra
I just can't get it to go through the relearn process without freezing and timing out.
nice video
Thanks
Is it expensive to get the clutch changed on one of these ?
Honestly budget for 2500$ I've heard the prices can vary depending on what exactly is found wrong with the trans/clutch
Man, these transmissions are garbage. Ford deserves every bit of punishment they get.
I hear that a lot.
@@AutomaticTransmission Is it true that dual clutch transmissions are particularly bad at handling rush hour traffic because they have to engage and disengage all the time? (I presume the Sonata Hybrid would be an exception since it can just use the electric motor that's always coupled to one set of gears.)
@@NiHaoMike64 same thing as a manual. Only you have more control in an actual manual.
Why do u have to turn 14 times..

Today I followed your instruction & rotate clutch fork. 2 recent faulty codes P07A3 & P2872 disappeared. I drove a car for a test with my small hand held diagnostic tool. After a car was driven for a test, the input shaft speed A & B showed unequal input voltage. When a car was not too hot, input shaft speed voltage A & B were equal nicely. after the driving test, a new faulty code P286F appeared. Please let me know what's going on? Did clutch actuator B need attention or was it TCM problem? Thanks
Is that computer standalone or do you need to buy software? I'd like one myself.
Needs to be programed.
Buen video pero no te olvides de los hispanos estaría bueno en español por favor gracias saludos desde México 👍
Ok
right now
I have P2872 clutch A stuck engaged. i have only this code... plz what can I do.....please note that ISS A raw has velocity (speed) with the RPM of engine even when I disconnected the clutch A actuator motor.

Hi, I have a 2013 Ford Focus it is doing the same sound, is your shop in santa fe?

How to repair p090c and show the parts number
The actuators binding or TCM modules failing? I was reading the 2016 had significantly fewer issues with the dcts. I am considering buying one, though I don't know if the transmission will exceed the 200k mark.
Close the door Hiram!!! LOL
Yeah I have a habit of having my leg out the door when scanning vehicles.
I have a 2013 focus se 2.0l won’t start after i drive it. I checked battery was good, put new starter, new relays on starter and Ignition relay and new negative battery cable. I also used the other key. Also it seems when it warms up and gets driven it don’t start. But when it cools it seems to start again. I’m stumped! Any pointers??
Thanks in advance
Great video!!!
Any updates? I replace purge valve and - battery cable as well stripped paint off bonds still having stalling issues
I got a TCM from a junk yard and it got my focus to start and drive. Trading it in Wednesday while it still drives. Never again will I ever own another Ford
This car is not running? The problem is the the actuators. This noise will stop when you close the door. But still the actuators need to be replaced
You got threw the test .. car should be good to go … the test stops doesn’t complete if transmission is bad 😮😮😮
Throw the clutch and both forks on it probably they’re binding
If we get the approval we'll do it, I would probably film it too.

There is a national back order for these TCMs right now.
Yes, not only that but also the conductor plates for the 6R's
So shops aren’t able to order?
@@kristianmopsticc2887 They can order but may take a while before they can get them in? My car was in the shop for about 2 months.
