    I mean, the point of dermarolling is to cause the damage to skin in order to make the body heal it producing a lot of collagen. But isn't the shaving with the blade essentially the same process? But it is widely denied across the internet..

    • @monkybeard

    Quick Question - is derma absolutely necessary for beard growth. I’m lucky I have a lot facial hair already but it’s thin and I have a few bald spots on my face. I’m in a little over than a week in putting on the liquid minoxidil. I have very sensitive skin to a bit hesitant to derma. Love the vids and beard!

      It definitely helps a lot, especially if you have problem areas like that. Dermarolling at 2mm is what started progressing my weaker areas. That or time with minoxidil. Unsure to say for 100% certain.

    Thank you so much for sharing! I have eczema and sensitive skin, and I am worried that dermarolling will cause skin irritation. Luckily, the foam minoxidil has not caused any. How helpful has dermarolling been to your beard journey? And how much do you think I would be missing out if I only applied minoxidil? Thank you.

      This is the golden question and I really think that you are in for a lot longer beard journey if you are not dermarolling. It really accelerates the gains. You can try out the roller, they are like $10 and see how your skin is. The pen is only better and irritates my skin a lot less than the roller.

      @@andreasolsen8922 Great questions! I generally keep my face moisturized, but not specifically before dermarolling. I do use Jamaiican Black Castor Oil afterwards and leave it on for at least an hour. The oil seemed to help boost my growth. I feel the oil makes more vellus hairs and the Minoxidil takes them to the finish line. Links to all of the stuff I use or recommend in the description.

    I bought the derma pen from your link to support! Are you sure we can dip the pin part in alcohol ahead of time and after? How long do you wait to let it dry I noticed the alcohol inside the tip part

    • @monkybeard
      @monkybeard  8 місяців тому

      Thank you so much for your support!
      I dip the tip in alcohol before and after for about 3 to 5 minutes. Usually brush my teeth and wash my face in the meantime.
      I rinse it off with hot water before use if I'm in a rush. Otherwise the alcohol dries rapidly like in a minute. Don't go beyond 1.5mm depth. Any more does not improve beard growth.

      @@mdinhlam I'm a glutton for pain! To be honest, best results are at 1mm to 1.25mm for beard and .5mm for eyebrows. Going 1.5mm is too much and helps for deep scarring, but not beard growth. I dropped down to 1.25 and see better results.

      @@mdinhlam Speed just means less rotations needed since your skin is getting punctured more times per second. I go on the second speed setting.
      I use both the oil just a tiny tiny bit and rub it in and then lotion over all. Moisturize is good for the rest of your face since the Minoxidil is going to dry you out and give you wrinkles.

    Hello. Thank you for the video. Most people, probably scientists too, for beard growth suggest 0.5 mm and at max 1 mm because, if I am not mistaken, in that depth does the beard growth happen. Like more depth is intented for different purposes. What's your take on that?

    • @monkybeard
      @monkybeard  Рік тому +1

      Yeah good point, at 0.2-0.5mm is where collagen production occurs. There are mixed reviews on more depth vs staying at 0.5mm on Reddit.
      My own personal results, I tried at 0.5 and did not see results for a 3 month period then I went to 1.0mm and found success for a while so then I speculated to go further and found better results. That being said, dermrollers.com/blogs/news/how-do-i-choose-my-size is a good reference for the use cases of each of the depths.

      Castor Oil is just the oil made from castor beans. The oil's molecule is too large to pass all the way through the skin barrier, so there really isn't any big side effects to worry about. Minoxidil has more side effects technically. I find it stimulates hair growth
