If they ever make a biopic about Gordon Lightfoot, he NEEDS to be played by Bryan Cranston. The resemblance is uncanny.
Yes definitely . While watching Gord respond to questions , I saw some mannerisms that he shares with Bryan . So along with physical resemblance , he could easily play the role. Not sure about the musical abilities.
Gordon Lightfoot will certainly be missed. He was a fabulous songwriter and performer. ❤❤❤❤😊
Bob had once said that the problem with Gordon Lightfoot is that his songs end too soon.
So did Breads songs, and others. I'd say seems a bit of a singer, songwriter, soft rock formula
And THEN you have songs like Call me maybe, that don't end soon enough!🤮👎
He didn't say it here, but Bob Dylan has said more than once that Gordon Lightfoot is his favorite songwriter.
It would have been tacky to say it here.
Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Dylan, both are the gold standard when it come's to the written word in song writing! RIP Mr. Lightfoot.
PLEASE DON'T FOR GET JONI
Don't forget the American treasure John Prine.
"Somebody of rare talent and all that"- Bob Dylan at 1.45
Yes, we caught that already, but thanks anyhow.
Talk about being damned with faint praise.
Idt he wanted to read all the sh** on the cue card. Cant blame him, awards shows are trite
Yes, talent like Gordon Lightfoot's is indeed very rare. Far more rare is the few sparks of quality songwriting exhibited by Zimmerman in his 60 some years of churning out album after album and long after his "heyday"
Bob was so much older then, he’s younger than that now.
Bob’s enthusiasm is overwhelming.
LOL
Ebullient Bob
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂
Bob is actually quite shy, has never been extroverted, even on stage, but he's a good guy ❤
I’ve heard many times that Bob had Asperger’s syndrome so even though he’s brilliant, Bob lacks social skills.
Two guys who both are uncomfortable talking to an audience, despite the fact they play music for millions. Nevertheless, a well-deserved honour for Gord.
Yes and there's a genuine poet expressing his soul beautifully Not the "joker" on the "sidelines in a cast" as Don McLean described Dylan in American Pie
Gorden Lightfoot...Thank you Sir.My husband loves Sailing and he still loves Shipping...He is still wearing his Boots!!
Been a fan since the 60s. I have loved him as much as you do. Sympathies to all my Canadian friends. Dear Gordon, rest in peace. 🇬🇧🇬🇧
I flew in to Toronto from New Brunswick Monday night landing at 6: 15. I had just sat down at my destination when, checking something on my phone, I saw the headline that Gordon Lightfoot had passed around 7: 30 in a Toronto hospital. As a Canadian who grew up hearing his hits on the radio it's a sad time. I'm going to remember the spot where I was when I heard Gordon Lightfoot died. Rest in Peace Gordon Lightfoot.
Tearfully missed
A gentle breeze moving through time, we love you always
Always amazing to see how shy these troubadours are on stage without their instruments and songs to hide behind. Here, from the viewpoint of 2020, they still shine on, like the moon and the stars and the sun.
True... very true.
Thank you. I never know if Bob Dylan is an arrogant cad or shy.
"to hide behind"??
Bob never has been comfortable on TV. Especially if he isnt singing and playing. He doesnt get the gawking and tribute stuff very much. I dont think it is arrogance as much as discomfort. He thinks alot of Gordon though and Im sure strictly did this for him.
Bob is a different kind of guy.
Plus, artists on these two guys level think differently. Artists are just oddballs in general. They kind of exist outside of time, circumstances and are better observers as participants. Rather than the center of attention. They are self experiments in a world of mediocre. Yet give insight to their times. And define humanity for us.
"What looks far from a distance
Close up, ain't really that big"
To receive a reward out of the hands of Bob Dylan is the greatest honor a musician can get. Hell, that's great!
...And he DID for more than 35 more years! Thank yoU Gordon Lightfoot! RIP

Hhaha I didn't know Keith sobered up long enough for an awards show... lol!!!
Dylan is possibly in another world here
Dylan always considered Gordon one of the the top songwriters. And that's saying a lot
One would think he might’ve mentioned that. Bob Dylan is kind of a dick. I’ve thought so ever since I watched him humiliate Donavan in that doc.
@@frankiebowie6174 on the contrary I thought he was accomodating to Donovan…. He listened to the song Don sang respectfully…. then took the guitar and sang “Baby Blue” which clearly was on another level
I used to play Gord's Gold 9n my way to school. I still listen to it on my way to work. Both are so gifted.. Thank you both for helping me get through life...in good and bad times. Bob is the gift that keeps on giving and Gordon voice can still give me joy. Thank you for posting.
@@frankiebowie6174 That video just showed who was the best lyricist. Bob Dylan has a talent that can't be contained. For some reason watching Donovan look like a minor compared to a major is delightful to see.
@@nancyprohira2571
Dylan has the mythological aura, but there are other songwriters who are just plain more entertaining and productive than him. Paul Simon, Willie Nelson and Paul McCartney come to mind. I’ve stopped lionizing Dylan and I’m glad for it.
Eyeliner really took no prisoners in the 80's
Bob Dylan reminds me of my son autistic traits.. Bob did get on a plane to do this. This said alot about how in felt about Gordon.
Bob being there for Gord speaks volumes!
Funny how distant they seem from eachother and how the awkwardness almost shows they would not be friends or let alone ever met in the past
when they were in fact good friends and respected eachother a whole lot
Sympathies to Gordon's family.
HE brought us His Gift & shared it generously...
with all of us. Dylan & Van morrison...& right there with them...Gordon Lightfoot.
RIP Gordon Lightfoot. Congrats on a job well done. May your music live on forever.
He was definitely tripping out looking at the tvs and then the TVs on the tvs. And then the tvs on the tvs on the other tvs.
Or pretending....
He was just being funny!

Fuck why were the 80's so shiny. My damn eyes are burning
RIP...A TRUE CANADIAN ICON
As a big fan, it’s great to see these two troubadours saving their best poetry for their next albums.
For someone so eloquent in his songwriting as Dylan, he sure didn't have much to say.
Personally, I thought he was rude
Bob got help from Satan to write that stuff! He couldn't remember half of what he wrote if he hadn't supernatural help. Think about it!
@@Super241946 Could be, but were does Satan deposit his royalty checks? It must be hard for him to open a checking account dressed like that.

Rest well Gordon lightfoot. 1938-2023. This us my favorite song, thanks for all the wonderful music.
Blessed to have these guys still sharing our air with us in 2022 with Bob at 80 and Gordon 83.
Oh
Bob is still younger
And now Gordon is gone.
RIP GL Thank You!!
Bob is turning 82 this month. He turned 80 in 2021. He is a year older than Sir Paul McCartney. Paul turned 80 last June. Gordon started his career in 1963. He passed away on Monday at 84.

sorry, Bob goes back way before Prince; think Little Richard. SHUT UP!

Thats stupid thinking..
Bob and Prince, both Gemini geniuses from Minnesota! Gordon's the man, though!

Think you missed the point Roy
Bob likened his voice to a coyote howl!really.
If you believe that then you know diddly about Dylan.

Gordon is a class guy as you can see.
bob didn't want to leave any finger prints behind.

Ohh good one . Nice shot the the satirical solar plexus.
You get up there in front of a room of people and try it sometime tough guy
oh bob, show a little enthusiasm - Gordon here's to you - thank you for your beauty and your grace.
Bob had a series of appearances where he seemed to not know where he was.
Can’t be sure but I think he’s acting: “Oh my! I’m so confused! I’ve never seen an awards ceremony before.” After all, Bob’s in the business of drawing attention to himself. I don’t buy the lost/confused schtick
@@FlaschDJ I agree. He just wanted to take his sweet ass time to get more adulation. He must be OK in private as George Harrison, Tom Petty and many others seem to like hanging with him but I've never been impressed with him. His music, yes. Himself, no. Just my opinion.
Hey why should he bother to know where he is? In his mind and apparently in millions of people's minds, he's God No need to comb your hair in the morning, wash your face, or apparently even change your clothes Just look in the mirror every day and say. "I'm Dyyylan"
@@FlaschDJ pretty sure hes tripping lol
demonstrating his alienation from the glitz and glamour of the showbiz side of the industry.
Bob doesn't show up for just anybody...but he showed up for Gord!
Dylan also like Randy Newman's songs.
When Bob Dylan shows up for you, you know you've made it.
There's a great video on UA-cam of Joni Mitchell singing Coyote in Gordon's living room with Dylan milling around. From the looks of it they had quite a good time and I'm guessing they were food friends. Cheers
E X A C T L Y !! Mr. DYLAN, within his thousands, (literally), of song lyrics...has already said it ALL !! Well spoken, BOB !!!
Bob dylan...a man of not so many words...
IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND LOVE,, IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN IN MY OPINION.
Amen to that So much good stuff by Gordon Lightfoot. So what is this real poet and songwriter doing up there with this imposter. The goofy looking guy is the emperor who has no clothes
bob dylan!! my lord he' just drips *cool*.
Bob Dylan got a Prince vibe going on in '86 😂
Damn, I've never seen Bob Dylan in his eighties phase.
🤣😂😂 right?
Bob Dylan's body and mind weren't always in the same place.
Gord cuts a handsome figure in that tux! I was speechless when I first saw this clip.

You go, Gordo! A sad day for Canada & all music lovers.
This is a hilariously understated presentation.
Here’s your thing. That it? Yup. Ok.
Well I guess that’s that.
Gordon always seemed like he could go around town and people would have no idea who he was
Bob did a fine job for someone who didn't know where he was.
I think he was worried that the last bus to whackoville was going to leave without him...
Good point. He didn’t seem to be aware of much.
This is the kewlest BOB i ve ever seen....Gordon gave us wonderful music....Many more years are wished for both....thank you for the 🎶
Gordon was a supreme talent and classy, decent, and grounded. Dylan... Neither seemed to relish the moment, but Gordon deserved the recognition! Troubadors are a rare breed indeed.
I am a big fan of both of these artists, but man was that hard to watch; so glad to see Gordon Lightfoot accept the recognition; definitely saw the style-influence due to Prince (or artist formerly and formally, both, previously known as Prince) - on Bob Dylan. Well, I was a big fan of all three, so I made that connection.
Bob is like “Can I home now” 😂😂
Bob Dylan got the honor to induct the greatest folk singer/songwriter of all time!🎉🎈🎊
Yeah, and he didn't even have the decency to acknowledge Gordon. "It's and honor to have me here." What a dick.
At last somebody gets it. Gordon Lightfoot's songs never get old, they just age beautifully.
@@newerafrican Dick doesn't even begin to describe him
@@veritastriumphantchurch776 Like fine wine. RIP Gordon Lightfoot.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees a Prince influence in Bob's fashion here.
He thought Prince was very talented, and they're both from Minnesota.
Bob Dylan dressed like Prince. The 80's were wild.
❤Bob Dylan ❤Love you forever ❤❤

I was in Gordon Lightfoot's presence about 15 years ago at the Long and McQuade Music store in downtown Toronto. He was there with a young man who I assume was his grandson and was looking at some equipment like any other customer. I remember the staff were all very aware he was there.
Super cool. Understated and awkward and humble and strange . . . I likey.
What a dignified and brief comment and acceptance, really appreciate this guy.
Rest in peace, Gordon.
I never heard of Lightfoot and had to look him up with Bob Dylan when I saw he was a folk songwriter.
This is the most Canadian thing I've ever seen
Gord, just a regular fella and just like another Gord we love to this day.....of The Tragically Hip. Beautiful story tellers. Cheers.
Bob looks around at the TVs during the clapping because he wouldn’t know where to look otherwise
Bob Dylan in his Michael Jackson phase? Sequined jacket, gloves (two). I don't think Dylan has made a habit of presenting awards to musicians, so he obviously values Gordon Lightfoot's work. It's abundantly clear that both are happier with a guitar or a harmonica.
If he had makeup and eye liner he would also look like Prince.
The 80s were a rough decade for him.
@Finn McGinn The 80s were a rough decade for many of us! 😂 That 80s hair. And my business suits had giant shoulder pads. 😂😂😂
Burning those photos is a kindness.
Prince is from Minnesota. Bob Dylan is from Minnesota. Apparently the state has one pair of clothes.
Yes and Minnesota is a very cold state, just like Bob Dylan And is very liberal and stupid , just like Bob Dylan It's latest claim to fame is the homicidal police force that killed George Floyd and set the country on fire. So far I see only two positives to its name. The newsroom and opening of the Mary Tyler Moore show and the great Mike Lindell and his wonderful My pillow
@@veritastriumphantchurch776 I was just making the observation that Dylan was dressed like Prince. But, OK.

Hey Perry, thanks for the kind words and comments Peace !! Glad you like the humor, Dylan and Lightfoot especially are underrated. Being inducted by Dylan is top heavy despite how good Lightfoot is. Like Hendrix inducting Slash but that would maybe make more sense. Anyway....!
Lol. Such a smooth talker, Bob!
I never saw Gordon in person except once but looking at his 70s work and his 90s performance his ageing here shoes rings like that of a maple tree. And the sap from that tree is sweet music.
Who is Bob Dylan looking for!
Dylan looks bored, and put out, but hey, if Bob Dylan shows up to honour you, you know you have achieved something very special. There are very few people on the planet that he would do that for.
Well hey, Bob Dylan doesn't have to do any of the things normal people do. Like learn to sing, learn to write comprehensible lyrics, smile, laugh, dress up nice for a special event, wash his face or even cut his fingernails He's just too "cool" for any of that
@@veritastriumphantchurch776 Not facetious at all. He doesn't do good interviews, he mumbles on stage in-between sets, doesn't have long speeches ready when called upon to do so etc ... but he is the unabashed world's poet laureate of the 20th century.. The boy can write.
@@richardthelionheart5594 That's kind of like saying a modern artist who smears paint and drippings on a canvas can really paint And his poetry is on the level of a middle school kid writing a poem for his teacher and getting a C- for a grade As Norman Mailer correctly put it, "If he's a poet, then I'm a basketball player"
Dylan gets the award for 'Most Distracted Person Ever'. Here's to ya! 🍻

Jesus Bob, you should have attended the rehearsal.
When Bob (finally) came out I was expecting something backhanded, and, of course, he did *not* disappoint.
Bob is competitive. He only gives grand praise to people who can't really compete.
Not true in this case. He very much admires and loves Gordon's writing and creativity. He has said as much. There was nothing false about Bob and his being there.
backhanded and blackhanded
