I think the fan spins easier without air to add resistance. But I'm no electrical engineer lol

@@fatch76 Well done! Because there is less load (air) to add mechanical resistance to the fan motor, less current is drawn.

Would it be because it’s created a vacuum or lower air pressure by drawing out more air than is going in? Less resistance on the motor with less air to pull?

There will be less current drawn as there is less load on the motor due to less air being drawn in. In actual fact, there is less stress put on the fan motor and bearings. Sort of opposite to what you would think. Just imagine an electrical circuit. Less load on the circuit will require less current.

Does a 07 vz commodore have a cabin filter?

It may or may not - depends what sub-model it is. If it does, it will be located behind the glovebox.

No they don’t from factory. You can buy pollen filters for them now to fit. They go in under the wiper cowl in place of the leaf grill.

@FuManchu5ltr is correct, I accidently looked up the wrong model. There are videos out there to show you how to do the modification

Regardless of current draw preventive measures are the key and many cabin filters are overlooked by their owners and in fact by one main dealer that I dealt with.
Some UA-cam mechanics claim that a clogged filter destroys the aircon actuators, have no idea if that is true hence the view that changing the filter is the safe thing to do.
Opinion only, I would never use a filter that flows more air at the expense of filtering.

You are right Colin. The main thing with a long life of anything is proper maintenance, cabin filters included.

Id be interested to see anthor test done with a partial blockage(maybe dust the filter with a pressure pack spray can/paint) & see the results of that
