I so loved Doris Thompson - a woman that was full of fun and a huge warm heart. We would get a day out at the pleasure beach from the home each year and Mrs Thompson would always meet us and she remembered that I was really scared on the Wild Mouse the year before.
I used to have this on video tape but it’s good to watch it again on here. I’ve been going to Blackpool since I was a child and now I bring my children. Still love it and the classic rides. It’s a shame they can’t make free entry again tho
We all have memories of the Fun House, all to eager to get inside into our stockingfeet and experience the many strange effects of our minds and bodies as we made our way through the various obstacles. This was the largest Fun House in the world when it opened in 1934 containing more than 50 different and exciting experiences inside including the record player and giant slide. The figure of the laughing man with his infectious uncontrollable chuckling was perhaps the most memorable feature of the Pleasure Beach. It had entertained visitors to Blackpool since 1935. Sadly a devastating fire destroyed the Fun House in 1991.
Many thanks for upploading this! Always wanted to watch this documentary ever since my family got rid of the VHS player meaning i couldnt watch the originall tape i bought....such an amazing documentary and really shows how Blackpool Pleasure Beach evolved over the years!
it doesn't appear to include the MYSTIQUE illusion show at the Horseshoe Showbar? - which was something of an institution for a while, as an established magic show in the same venue from year to year in Britain (Peter Nightingale also did mahic from year to year in Blackpool summer season, but he got about the place a bit)
@@pommiebears Richard DeVere did pass away, and also had a statue erected (in his lifetime) at the Pleasure Beach, though it may have helped that he had a celebrity dog who could also be monumentalised. Before DeVere, the MYSTIQUE show was actually started in 1988 by Russ Stevens (grandfather of Issy Simpson), who put in a good few years but didn't get a statue - He tried opened a Theatre of Illusion elsewhere in Blackpool, but it didn't last.
Sherrie Seamark I was a huge fan of Spin Doctor and Bling too. I can’t wait to see what they do with Valhalla. I’m hoping they don’t change the soundtrack!
As much as I like The Pleasure beach, I've noticed over the past few years its really showing signs of its age, everything is grubby, broken and felt really run down, even a fresh lick of paint would be a good start
I was last there a couple of years ago and I agree. And the food stations were terrible Understaffed and all the counters were dirty with rubbish piled up all over them. Not well kept at all.

AlunDay1991 each to their own..like you say appealing to YOU ....key word...i live in bpool and most ppl feel same... nostalgia place these days ...i for one get bored easy and if places dont move with the times then i lose interest. Bpb is more like a gypo fair now ...one of the places you wouldnt be quick to return to. Simulator...you clearly not been orlando then as there is very few sims compared to actual rides.
I've not disputed that it's anything more than my opinion. Orlando is hugely popular amongst Brits, I'm simply outlining that Blackpool's "ancient" rides are part of its charm. I really don't mind if other people feel the same, I don't mind if I'm in the minority with my opinion, I really don't. I understand why you'd like Orlando if you lose interest. I will certainly be returning to the "gypo fair" regardless. Whether I've been to Orlando or not doesn't matter.
Amazing documentary! The Old enthusiast couple!!! And a wee Andy Hine cameo 🙌🏻 great stuff
What a fantastic documentary! Thanks for uploading. Memories of BPB throughout lots of generations of families

Pity her grand daughter is horrible money grabbing 🤬 who's taken away 50% of the rides and replaced them with food courts or fountains
The best job I've ever had, so much fun, and nice to see my old boss Geoffrey and Teddy again.
keith n JR seemed epic to work for

Thanks for sharing and uploading
My uncle was musical director of the ICE SHOW back in the sixties at the PB.. (Ernie Freedman)..... For me..Wonderful childhood memories.
I had this on VHS and it was a brilliant documentary and I’m pleased it’s on UA-cam now since I got rid of the video some years ago.

Bring back the Virginia Reel, double big wheel, dive bomber. I so miss them, oldies but goodies and always the best xx
I’d have loved a go on the Virginia Reel!

Bring back Mr Funshine
Mr Funshine is making somewhat of a comeback, in a retro sort of way. He's featured on some new merchandise, and they still make Funshine shortbreads.

When you been orlando then you revisit pleasure beach you realise how shit and dated it all is
craig hoole That’s part of its charm, it’s never going to be comparable to Orlando.
AlunDay1991 obvz ..just saying id never revisit bpb again but would orlando.
Its rides are ahead of its time
Bpool rides are ancient
craig hoole Yes, and it’s wonderful that it has “ancient” rides. That’s more appealing to me than simulator after simulator.
