    Thank you for breaking this coil information down- you have made a great video for any beginning coil builder! I personally have a hard time connecting the dots sometimes (military tbi!) but this info delivery from you is just what I needed tonight! I have watched a crazy amount of videos on coil building, but have been gun shy on starting a build of my own! I needed to know the why's as well as the how's! Thank you very much! Damn Pegasus you've come a long way from that 1st flick fix vid. I remember thinking after catchin' a few more: this guy is compelling, to the point, and most importantly callin out all the extensive bullshit that riddles vape culture on the web. I think you had maybe 2 or 3 vape vids up at the time, but honestly It didn't matter; I subbed hoping you were gonna start kickin' knowledge on the reg. There was something refreshingly different in your approach, which includes some great comments I'd come across randomly that you posted on different vape channels throughout youtube. I meant to post on more than one occasion to show appreciation for your help, and either never got around to it, or did, and lost the script somehow right b4 posting. Regardless I just wanted to throw some appreciation your way. As far as I'm concerned you have some of the top Vape advise/instruction on youtube, and rather ironically your channels' hush like a well kept secret. No gimmick just raw, honest, expertise, and I find it quite honorable of you to share all your trial and error, with the newbies on deck; minus the distorted predisposition that many seem either oblivious, or indifferent to indicate. This shit is confusing enough on a good day without all the hype lol. GTK we got Pegasus to ease the sting the setups. Props

    Before you get fancy, you need to get basic coil building down first.
    But its not enough to just learn how to build a coil for a particular device.
    How do you know what to build when its something new?
    I believe this will help you.

    I just started building mods and atomizers. The first video I watched was of a Texas twist. All my kanthal is now that way. I won't waste time on single thread. All my mods I've built have mosfets and heat my coils to blow clouds. I don't believe the hype with all these different coils using four different sized wires and crap. I suggest find something that is easy for you works how you want and perfect it. Seven coils is a good place to start. My dual 18650 in series needs ten coils and a dual set up it blows clouds like the space shuttle. Great vid no uhms and useless info.

  • @docvaporchem8943
    @docvaporchem8943 10 років тому

    Good video. What you didn't tell us, however, on the single versus dual 0.7 ohm coil experiment is what is the gauge (or perhaps length) of the wire in the two setups. Hare to see from the video, but it looks like all of the coils are of about the same length wire. So, I assume that in the dual coil 0.7 ohm build, the Kanthal was of higher gauge? Is that correct?
    If instead in the dual coil you used twice the length of the wire in each coil (compared to the length in the single coil, would you still have seen the dual get hot faster?

    • @Pegasus-Lounge
      @Pegasus-Lounge  10 років тому

      you don't need to know what the gauges were,
      the rule is that larger heavier coils perform slower.
      Both drippers produce the same amount of heat, its just one will get there sooner than the other. Had I done what you suggested the ohms would be different and wouldn't make for a fair comparison.
      The purpose of the video is to teach the importance of using the right gauge for the right application, because its not good enough that you make a certain ohm.
      You could build a 1 ohm coil with about 26 wraps of 24 gauge kanthal.
      but it would take forever to light up. Using too little kanthal would overheat and snap. so whenever you want to grab a certain ohm for a certain setup.
      make sure you have the right gauge and stay within the 6 wrap area so that you don't lose performance.

    Would you buy wire from FT? I live in Korea and not sure about how to get the right quality material for wire. I'm considering going with an SVD, kayfun 3.1 combo for my first rebuildable. Total newb stuff, but would love to see a video on buying wire and wick material on FT and discussion about the composition of the wire.

    • @Pegasus-Lounge
      @Pegasus-Lounge  10 років тому

      I would recommend a simple 3 post dripper for a newb rebuildable device.
      simply because it has the largest open work space.
      you really get a feel of the heat and how stuff is cooking.
      you should also purchase an ohm meter. Don't rely on the ohm readings of thing like an SVD its not accurate.
      as for raw materials like kanthals and silica. go eBay.

    Can you use stainless steel wire to make a coil?

    • @Pegasus-Lounge
      @Pegasus-Lounge  9 років тому

      yes and no, yes meaning you can, no meaning you shouldn't
      kanthal and nichrome are alloys or hybrids they contain stainless inside to give it resistance to give us that heat performance.
      straight stainless would provide too much resistance. Meaning hard to heat up.

    one question because youre so into that stuff and you will probably know it, can i use an atomizer (plume veil) on my eGo battery 1100mAh? if so, what kind of coil and kanthal should i use?

    • @Pegasus-Lounge
      @Pegasus-Lounge  10 років тому

      you must check with your ego device what is its lowest resistance setting. it could be 1 ohm or 1.2
      meaning it will not fire anything lower. so while you could do this it most likely wont be a good vape.

    I bought my second kayfun..I have 4 months experience at using a kayfun and dripper.
    For the life of me o can not get 28 guage to stay under the screws on the positive and negative posts..also when I do build a coil with 30 gauge I can't get it to read on my ohm meter..I get just a 1 as if no atomizer was attached..but when I put it on my SVD I get different readings..6.0 to 3.0..
    Any help from anyone would be appreciated

    • @Pegasus-Lounge
      @Pegasus-Lounge  10 років тому

      coils can be built is many ways, what I teach here is what you should build natively. that doesn't mean you can't get fancy, even though you shouldn't until you're good.
      if the 28 gauge kanthal is too thick for your kayfun build then consider replacing the screws. bring your whole setup to a hardware shop.
      if at anytime your reading is off, make sure your build is not touching multiple points of the atomizer. if you're doing a horizontal microcoil build. reinsert your screw driver and give it a lift. try metering it again. should be fine.

  • @markbuckle4216

    I get the coil building thing, every time I coil one I jot down in a note book what I done, I.e wire gauge,wraps drill size or whatever I used, so that's all good! But! What I don't get is when you build a gen with steel mesh! Ok I get one of the sizes as in the height you want it, but I don't get where people get the length! or is it, " oh that will do?"

    • @Pegasus-Lounge
      @Pegasus-Lounge  10 років тому

      perhaps this will make more sense.
      when the post are of even height we need a bridge.
      when they are not of even height we need a ladder.
      it is not important how many planks are used in the build of your ladder or bridge, but knowing when you should use a bridge or a ladder.
      Using more planks in your build will take longer for the energy to travel.
      But using too few planks will cause your build to snap and break.
      WOW I sound like a Monk:
      so wrapping a genesis, if you wrap it by hand, putting in 3 wraps will glow hot and ignite quickly. putting in 1 wrap will glow too hot and snap. putting in 5 wraps will take longer to heat up and glow less hot. so how many wraps you should do, is what you think is the optimal heat to performance ratio you think is for your device.
      i guess i'll do a class on this.

    • @markbuckle4216
      @markbuckle4216 10 років тому

      Ok, Master ;) I get the bit about bridge & ladders, I was more confused about the SS MESH! That you put in your coil! For instance in one of my atty's it says to use 45x40 mm piece of SS, I can see that the 45 is the height I would need to go from the tank to the post, but why the 40? Is there a reason for this? Or is it just a figure? If I confused you with the question I apologise! But that was a cracking answer! and yes you did lol

    • @Pegasus-Lounge
      @Pegasus-Lounge  10 років тому

      LOL MARK~! I'm gonna hit you!
      this is a coil video about coils.
      You have a wick question!
      The first number is the recommended height
      The second number is the recommended thickness.

    • @markbuckle4216
      @markbuckle4216 10 років тому

      Mmm does that mean your not going to answer the question! Lol, coils are involved ;) ok I'll wait until you do a " what type of wick" should I build video :)

    • @Pegasus-Lounge
      @Pegasus-Lounge  10 років тому

      ???,..... I did answer the question!
      you said. how come it says 45x40?
      45 means the length of wick.
      40 is the recommended thickeness becuase SS mesh wicks are rolled.
      40 is what they recommend to fill the hole while still maintaining an opened center.
      as you wrap the coil around it, it will obviously go up vertically and if you want to use 3 or more wraps its up to you.

    Was curious how I do the math to determine the best range of vape quality/ coil life for specific ohm builds? For instance, some atomizers suggest a .5 ohm coil should be used at 15-30watts, 1.2 ohm should be 12-25watts, 1.8 should be 6-10.2 watts? If i know the resistance of the coil how can I determine what wattage/voltage I should use it at to get a good vape quality/not over power or under power a coil without playing the trial and error game? Thanks!

    • @Pegasus-Lounge

      Because these things cannot be explained.
      If you've never driven a car you have no idea how fast one can go.
      So If I asked you, how much power you looking for, how could you answer me?
      If you've never shot a gun before, and I asked you what caliber you're looking for. How can you answer?
      Like all things, you need to visit a shop and test drive.
      Try out different ohms and different power settings.
      Ask your shop clerk what was that you just tried and write it down and remember what it felt like.
      Keep trying things till you find you "speed" As you get more comfortable you'll know whether it to go up

      Pegasus Vapor Academy This is true but I finally figured it out, the answer is simple. There are many vape calculators online that have the equations pre built into them. You take the resistance and start plugging in wattages into it and if the amps calculate higher than what your battery is rated for then it is a no go. Plus going higher in wattage creates a warmer vape, uses more juice, and burns the cotton faster. Thanks for the help and videos!

    • @ej5364
      @ej5364 8 років тому +4

      Ohms refers to resistance, amps refers to current, watts refers to electrical power.
      So to illustrate, imagine we are talking about water through a hose (rather than electricity through a circuit)... the wattage would be the quantity of water going through the hose at any one time, the amperage would be how fast the water is going through the hose, and the resistance would be how wide the hose is.
      If your resistance is super low (AKA building super sub-ohm), the rate of how fast the water can flow through the hose (or electricity in the circuit) is going to be a lot lower. If you try pushing ten gallons through a tiny hose all at once, the hose is gonna blow up (or your vape, in this case).
      This is a super simple analogy, and the whole thing is a lot more complex than this... but like you said, you are using a coil calculator, so you don't need to understand it on a theoretical level. I can't explain it at that depth either, but the hose analogy I described should be a pretty good explanation of why you don't want to build a super low ohm coil (anything less than 0.5 ohm on a mechanical mod is pushing it).
      Most regulated mods have safety features to prevent you from hurting yourself or your vape (self being much more important, obviously). Using a coil calculator is definitely helpful in any case, I've been building for quite a while now and I still use Steam Engine for a general idea of what resistance I'm gonna get when I'm done building the coil.
      Good luck, and stay safe!
      -E

    Sir smaller guage wires heat up faster because of the resistance not because "energy transfers throught them faster than thicker coils".
