Reasons why GameNight is the first link I will click on to watch a game and finish it: 1)Clear rules. 2) Game is clearly visible. 3) Excellent editing. 4) Players are respectful and thoughtful in their comments. 5) Players discuss the mechanics of the game more than their individual contributions, when discussing personal choices it is in relation to said mechanics. Normally, GameNight is the pinnacle of what a gameplay run-through should be. Having said that, I really suffered through this episode and I'm guessing your editor did as well. I cannot stress how much I LOVE GAMENIGHT! For the love of cheeses, please remember your winning points! In all sincerity I wish you would redo this game now that you understand it better. Much love!

Nissa, thanks for your feedback. This is a game I really enjoy and I really wanted to make it an episode. It was really difficult to get the time to do it, particularly with Aaron who was scheduled to play it with us. I hope you weren't too disappointed watching it. Thanks again for your note and for watching. P.S. It was a bit hard to edit ;)

Hi. Great to see a game like this played with such good quality video and audio and players who seem very much themselves in front of the camera. I especially enjoy that you take time after playing the game to think about it a little more and to understand what you just did and what you liked and disliked about the game based on that playthrough. I think it elevates the playthrough above that of others.
    Well done and game on.

Great play through! Seems like you guys thought you had be chieftain over six opposing clans in one territory. You can just count up all opposing clans in the territories where you are chieftain to meet the victory condition. Makes that victory condition quite a lot more flexible

I'm so glad to see a full play through of this game; I've been on the fence about it for so long. At the beginning I was completely into it and thought that I should go buy a copy, but by the end I realised that for me, while I'd still like to play it, it wouldn't get more than a few plays with my group. Thank you!

Great post! I've played this game once with 2p and had a lukewarm experience with it. Afterwards, I wasn't sure when and if i would want to play again, but this Game Night post really showcased the game's clever strategies and fun potential. Now, I cant wait to get this game back to the table!

This is one of my favorite games and it’s one that got me into board gaming. This is definitely one of the bigger maps I’ve seen during inis. You really spread out! Nice had some games really just build up and battle within a board half this size. Part of what I love is how different this game is depending on who plays and what’s drafted.

I haven't played this game before, but from what I can tell I might like it. Unfortunately this was probably the roughest episode for me to watch. I'm not sure why exactly though. I generally absolutely LOVE the show regardless of who is playing. That being said, I do miss Aaron as he is probably one of my favorite people on the show. Keep up the great work though guys. I always watch the episodes first chance I get and try to share them with friends. You guys are definitely one of the best gameplay shows on UA-cam.

" Unfortunately this was probably the roughest episode for me to watch. I'm not sure why exactly though. "perhaps it was because the game itself wasn't that great...2 parts of the video indicate Stephanie and Nikki probably found it a little mediocre --- the part where Stephanie almost whinges that its already a long game and Nikkis reluctance to give some opinion at the end

Great episode! What I enjoy the most about the show is both the ease of watching game play and the variety of player behaviors. Other than Tabletop, I have yet to find another show that pops visually with solid editing and great audio...and imagine the budget differences between the 2 shows! After reading the comments, I don't believe some people realize that these behaviors, whether you find them rude, aggressive, "quarterbacking", etc., are no different than most gaming groups and/or families that play regularly. Also, I enjoy the inclusion of females into the episodes (much like Tabletop). I do not know any of the GameNight members, but making generalizations about their lives and what kind of people they are (previous comments) is obnoxious and hypocritical at the same time. A person that has to point out generalizations about others doesn't want anyone to be happy and must be self-conscious about their own lives. The addition of Stephanie brings energy to the show and here's to many more episodes for her! I watch because I don't want boring, I want legitimate interactions and game play to decide on whether or not to purchase the game for my own group. Keep it going GameNight crew!

Thank you for watching and commenting, Kim. I really appreciate your support. I can certainly say that we don't do any sort of scripting or planning as far as gameplay goes, so you are getting the most real scenario of gameplay. Like you mentioned, we are all humans and subject to the same emotions that other humans have while playing games like this, often for the first time. There was some irritation there, but it was mild and quickly forgotten. I love all of the GN crew, and I am glad and honored to be a part of it. :)

Isn't he only chieftain in one of them? It looks like he left the Hills as a 4/4 tie. The real error was keeping the card for the Hills 2 minutes after that I believe.

    • @Subangelis
      @Subangelis 8 років тому

At the above timestamp, he is in three territories and chieftain in two of them.

    • @TheNamekianClown
      @TheNamekianClown 8 років тому +5

And between the two he's chieftain in there are only two opposing clans. Watching on he does meet the win condition at 1:27:23 when he places another clan in the Hills though.
And then flat out has 6 in the Hills when Nikki placed 2 more there at 1:31:20.
It seems in concerning themselves with the 6 territories win condition they completely forgot about that one.

You got a major rule wrong.
1:38:25 Lincoln could have gotten a pretender token here for being chieftain over 6 opposing clans. And, from the looks of things, could have won the game here probably. (check the board state at 1:41:09 which is at the next assembly phase)
I feel you explained this rule wrong- this victory condition doesn't need to happen in a single territory, but can be spread out over multiple teritorries.
The rules explanation at the beginnning was kinda chaotic I feel, but I didn't notice many mistakes save for this major one.
Other than that, I liked the video.. I was actually looking for some advanced players playing the game but yours was entertaining nevertheless. Most of you guys seemed to be having fun which was fun for me to watch :)

It was a heated discussion - in a heated game - with people talking over one another. And, possibly germane to this discussion is Stephanie's comment elsewhere that this was her first time meeting/playing Dave.
It’s sad that this has all overshadowed the point of the video. Some people are far too sensitive and easily critical in these comments. Yawn 😱

At 50:08 when Stephanie attacks Dave for the second time, Dave withdraws to an adjacent territory. Isn't this incorrect? When you are attacked you must discard an Action card or remove a clan. Since Dave had no action cards he should have removed his clan to his reserve, right? Even so, Dave withdrew to a territory where he was not Chieftain.

Remove an Exposed Clan: The attacked player takes one of his engaged clans and returns it to his reserve. If the attacked player does not have any Action cards, he has no choice but to remove an exposed clan. Withdraw: The player moves one or more of his exposed clans to adjacent territories where he is the chieftain. The Withdraw maneuver does not initiate another clash. at 1:17:45 Nikki should have attacked Stephanie since Lincoln didn't want to fight. And on Lincolns turn Nikki and Lincoln could have stopped the clash. Nikki would not of lost presence from 4 to 3 tiles. Steph was being a stick in the mud. Also Isn't the chief over 6 clans victory mean you are the chief over 6 clans and they don't all have to be in the same tile. So at that same time stamp Lincoln would be chief over three clans in the vale and adding 1 more to the hills he would rule over 4 making him at 7 clans and winning?

Nikki was supposed to return her Pretender token when she didn't meet the win condition the first time. She can't just hang on to it after getting one if she ends up not winning. She would have had to reacquire a new Pretender token again, spending an action to do so, before the final turn was done.

At the 1:56 mark, did Stephanie place the new territory incorrectly? I believe new territories must be placed such that they are adjacent to EXACTLY TWO other territories (at least it says that specifically about initial setup). She places it next to three. I don't think this affected gameplay or the outcome, but a lot of people watch these videos to get a firm handle of the rules and I wanted to clarify. Or do new territories only have to be adjacent to exactly two during initial setup?

      TERRITORIES
A new territory is always placed adjacent to at least two territories. When a new territory is placed, its matching Advantage card is taken from the Advantage deck and placed faceup by the play area.
At least two. It could mean 2, 3 or more, just not 1 to make the map a straight line. It also ensures that there are at least two paths into a territory.

Good runthrough. I sure wish this art... well, the card art... were tied to a better design. For me this game just plays like some sort of cul-de-sac that we've finally encountered in the recent pursuit of the perfect "hybrid." Not so much a gamer's game as a hybrid gamer's game, which I'm not sure has as much appeal as I probably would have thought two or three years ago.

I do think, like with a lot of "armies on a map" type of games, there can be some king making. It's sort of a scramble at the end, and it's unpredictable who will come out on top. Although, we didn't play it 100% correctly, so things could have been different had we done so.

They were playing as though the win condition for being chieftain over 6 other clans requires that all the clans be in the same territory... I was under the impression that you could, in theory, be chieftain in any number of territories with a grand total of 6 other clans under your control spread among the territories to win. In other words, if you're chieftain in two territories, and in territory one there are 4 other clans and in territory two there are two other clans, that would suffice. Or did I miss something?

      From the Inis rulebook:
Chieftain over Six or More Opposing Clans: Add up the total number of opposing clans in territories where the player is chieftain. If there are six or more, the player has met a victory condition.
So yes, it doesn't HAVE to be one territory, it could be multiple.

Why draft? It seems like the draft is essentially 4 people shuffling the deck at once, and at the end the cards are already dealt.
I guess it could potentially group like cards or complimentary cards together but it could be just random too. If no one looked at the cards would it really end up any different?

The drafting is wrong. The rules say:
    1. Each player looks at his four Action cards, chooses one to hold, and passes the other three to the next player, as indicated by the Flock of Crows token.
    2. Next, each player adds the one card he held to the three cards passed to him. He looks at all four Action cards, chooses two to hold, and passes the other two to the next player.
    3. Finally, each player adds the two cards he held to the two cards passed to him. He looks at all four Action cards, chooses three to hold, and passes the other one to the next player. At the end of the Assembly phase, each player has four Action cards in hand and maybe some Advantage and Epic Tale cards.
