@@gzer0x I mean is he really evil ? Hes a dude that had to survive and did, there could be far worse people on his throne, or worse his kingdom could fracture.
@@danielboatright8887 that's a tricky question. From an outside perspective, yes he is evil: he has smuggled illegal goods, had people killed, intimidated honest hardworking people, and forced binding illegal contracts onto those who stumble upon his lair. The complicating factor is the "us vs them" mentality in human nature. The Gentleman is now part of our "Us" group, so we excuse his behavior because he must have had a good reason for what he did. From that perspective, no he is not evil. "Why would we let someone evil into our group? That would be self destructive."
As a DM, if any of my players ever did the theorising marisha did this session I would just die right there of pride The INVESTMENT, the ENERGY, the PASSION, I want it, I want all of it
@Hector Lewis i remember people thinking she was gonna get away with nonsense cause she was the DMs wife. Turns out, she's got the highest investment because she probably watches her husband work his ass off every day to make this all happen
I could have listened to an entire episode of that. I want to know what Caleb's room looks like. Also, aren't there a couple more floors he didn't get to? I may have miscounted.
I think probably that Matt could not have been happier with Liam in all of this. It just shows his attention to detail and love of Matt's world. Also, they clearly discussed it before-hand. That's why the last episode cut where it did, because Matt knew it would take a chunk of time for Liam to get all that off his chest. I think that shows great respect from the DM for his player's insane imagination.
@@mqw.4377 That's really true! I run a one shot for my friends, the basic you meet in a tavern thing, as a dm i had something to say for a minute or so then the players did their thing for a solid half an hour... I did facepalm few times, but it was amazing!
@@DbSawoJarkko your comment made me crack a smile because my pcs always head to the bar first when I send them to a new location, religiously guaranteed that the next clue is in a bar. I would be an irresponsible DM if I actually put the next clue in the that bar.... and they know that, but it has become a point of comic relief.
As a cat lover, the idea of a magical tower where everything is run by a small army of magical cats who will pile up in bed with me but don't shed any fur is the greatest thing I could imagine
That was my exact thought watching that whole scene! And it makes sense with all of his character interactions involving gifts as a form of trust and care!!!
Yeah, the entire first hour of this ep. was like a beautiful love letter from Caleb / Liam to the M9 / his friends .. The endless list of little personal touches in the Mansion for each of them.. So wholesome! :)
I really wanted several halfling-sized orange men to come out and sing a song about Jester's predicament when she got herself stuck on the side of the aqueduct.
I love how caleb went from agonizing over whether or not he should joint the M9 to handcrafting a pocket dimension specifically tailored to each of his friends' tastes
Ya Travis loved making sam rp both taryon and Scanlan, to which Sam later made him do the same when they did the hunt for grog with grog and the douchebag lying adventurer that assisted in the search lmfao
I actually really like when people tell u exactly how they feel. I'm trying to live my life in a way where everyone I love knows I love them and appreciate them
In his one shot he states it very clearly when watching his friends role play their characters, he says "just like the Grinch my heart just grew 2 sizes". He genuinely enjoys Thursday nights, and absolutely loves DnD.
Is there anything more Caleb than building a safe, beautiful home perfectly individualized for each of his friends, and then going and sitting in a replica of a room where he was tortured? Poor sad wizard boy just won’t ever let himself be happy.
I thought that was supposed to be a replica of his prison cell. But the torture chamber at the top of a tower at the Academy makes more sense. I was a bit disappointed no one asked to see his corners. TBH I would gladly watch the whole episode of them exploring every nook and cranny of the tower. The details and whimsy are at Ghibli level. Can't wait to see this animated
@@kientran364OMG SAME!!! But this moment is so far down the line that it will still be a few more years before we experience this narrative in animation and baul all over again. I’m looking forward to it!
Just as an aside, the password is roughly "do not forget", if I remember my German correctly. EDIT: I did not remember correctly. It's "Gone, but not forgotten".
I've played dnd in one form or another for over a decade, and with around a dozen different DMs. In my personal experiance, I have seen a fair number of DMs share a Mercer-like passion for their world building. However I've yet to be in a campaign where the majority of players are on the same level as the cast of Critical Role. Usually there are one or two players who have a detailed backstory and remain in character quite well, but they are the minority with the other 4-6 people at the table playing much more casually and they tend to be constantly joking around and rarely act in character. This tends to derail a lot of campaigns and keep the story from getting to too deep or too complex. You can't really blame the typical player for keeping things light and comedic, after all if you required all players to take it seriously you would lose the majority of the fandom. However, I would agree with the comment above me that its the cast of Critical Role, rather than Matt, which make it really stand out. It's comparatively easy to find a DM that truly cares about the story they create. It's all but impossible to find a full group of players (who are willing to meet every single week) and who all care just as much about the story as the DM.
But honestly people don't recognize how this show is so good not just because of Mercer as an incredible DM but because he has incredibly creative, respectful, and supportive players. Everyone wants a Crit-role quality DM for their game but doesn't want to put forth the effort to be a crit-role quality player. But that's none of my business *sips tea*
I think I've heard this term before, but I don't quite understand it. Could you explain what the Mercer effect is? I sorta understand but I'd like an explanation.
I don’t understand the comments people make about the Mercer effect. Yes Matt is an amazing and passionate DM supported by an incredible group of hugely talented actors (who are trained to understand and embrace playing other people) and a crew of talented individuals backstage. Sort of like saying the MCU has ruined amateur dramatics. Also I would hate to be a player in a game, like theirs; I am not great at improv and can’t do accents etc. So would pretty much sit there and feel uncomfortable. However they have inspired me to reach out an restart a hobby I loved some many years ago during this difficult time.
Thanks for the reminder! I knew there was a big spoilable thing but managed to avoid actual spoilers... then ALMOST scrolled the comments while the intro was playing like an idiot
Watching Taliesin struggle to keep his poker face was delicious. He’s so excited for Molly to still be such a force in the campaign almost 100 episodes later.
Every time Molly's mentioned my eyes go straight to Taliesin, it's my favorite thing to watch him listen to them talk about how he's left a mark on their lives.
For those confused by Taliesin's reaction to the TSA joke- one time at a convention they all went to a critter gave him a replica of Percy's "The List" pepperbox. He forgot it was in his stuff and it got confiscated by TSA. The worst part is that one of the agents recognized them from CR, but couldn't not confiscate.
@@LordDragox412 pretty sure not. When TSA confiscated something, it tends to end up in a trash pile, a warehouse, or occasionally an employee's pocket.
The awesome thing is that the nine eyes were made before the campaign, Matt mentions in the wrap-up that it was crazy how it kept coming up. Nines were always destined for this group!
@@davidcurry5240 I think it is a testament of the well knitted and tight their friendship and roleplaying and time and how they know each other so well... its almost like they know what the other is thinking (specially Marisha-Travis-Laura with Matt)

HOW DOES SHE DO IT?? Like I try to write EVERYTHING and I can't understand that shit 10 seconds after the session, let alone MONTHS later! We call Tal the god, but Marisha is Ioun herself!
Thank goodness they are socially distanced. I can't imagine how many people would have been injured if Marisha were to explain her conspiracy theories while they were all sitting around the same table 😅
you know what makes me really sad about this? Caleb always grew up a little poor so he could never give much to the friends he cared for, but with his mind and his imagination, he gave them everything he could ever think of, probably everything he's always wanted to give them.
This...this is how you know that not only does Caleb still have a spark of humanity within him still, but that Trent, despite everything that he did to Caleb, still failed to turn Caleb into the weapon he was attempting to forge out of Caleb. In some way, this is the poetic justice to having dinner at Ikithon's tower.
@@grish_grosh : But if that's true, then Liam's success is what we should all strive for. Think about it: Liam's been either a voice-actor or Voice Director in how many things? Then he plays a one-shot D&D game that has morphed into this huge economic and business deal, with Critical Role. He gets to play D&D with his friends, AND star in an animated show for a character _he created!_ All this, despite the things that have befallen him, like losing his mother (respectfully, RIP). Despite the internal depression I think he's talked about in the past. Anyone who has taken life's adversities, and been successful despite them, is somebody that I actually respect, unless that person is a complete and utter d-bag, because in the case of the latter, I'm not sure how you redeem yourself in the eyes of others from that.
There's a video floating about on UA-cam that she talks about it, though can't remember off the top of my head what it was, she mentioned that she has specific markers to represent things like people /places and events ect so she can spot them when flicking through her notebooks
If I am not mistaken, this question has been answered by her before, and she puts a ton of effort into it. She has a notebook for taking notes in the game, and then transfers those notes into a different notebook with things organized by NPCs, locations, and topics so she can flip to the correct section whenever its relevant.
This is my first time watching campaign 2, and I have loved Caleb since the beginning of the campaign. This episode took that to a whole new level. I also deeply love that the first thing he does after having dinner with the man who ruined his life is introduce his friends to the safe place where they can be happy and comfortable and get whatever they want. It's deeply kind. I love this character so, so much.
I like to think that Matt and Marisha both have an office in their home. Matt's is where he has all the campaign notes, and Marisha's is post it notes on the walls, stacks of notebooks, and yarn connecting random things across the room as she tries to piece together the campaign.
Matt has the home office. DC's board is actually Marisha's. Marisha told her that she can use it for Critical Recap as long as she TOUCHES NOTHING! The other side of the board is dedicated to how to pick the lock of the home office.
Plot twist bespite the complication and confusing layout to marishas room of not quite sane ramblings her room of clues is still more organised then matts because she doesnt have all the clues yet
Don't forget... Matt's office has awesome minis distributed amongst the notes, and all his past DM screens. Also the most complex locks you're ever going to see.
A hat tip to the closed captioner, especially at the end-“yelling and protesting”, “tortured yelling”. I give a lot of credit to this unseen person for my enjoyment of this show.
the closed captions are simply amazing since the beginning of the campaign. Some of them are just simply hilarious, starting from the basic "Matt: *meows*" to "unintelligible yelling"
Also durring some "unintelligible" scenes either from too many people talking, heavy accents, or my brain refusing to comprehend speach those subtitles are very useful. Just being able to know exactly what words are said is great. English has too many words that sound similar, also diction is important and Matt knows it.
Okay, can we talk about happy Tal looked when Liam descirbed Caduceus' room? That was adorable. They *all* looked so happy. I love this. I love Liam and I love Caleb and I love DnD and I love Critical Role.
Remember at the start of the campaign where Caleb would just ditch the Nein as soon as things went south, constantly hiding behind things to stay as far away from the fight, *THEN* he flew right into first line of combat to Disintegrate the fucker that was harming his half-orc friend, and *NOW* he created a 7th Level Spell to tell them how much he appreciates their company and love?
To be fair At the beginning of the campaign he was super squishy and could very easily die in one hit. Remember, he went from full to 0 with three crossbow bolts the first time they ran into the bandits.
@@Boundwithflame23 Wizards are always squishy, and it makes sense to not want to drop when others can take hits you can't, while you can deal hits from distances they can't. Also he was very, very anxious. Far different from being the coward he proclaimed himself to be, as he would do what he had to despite his fears, but now he is bold, requiring little reason to put himself in harms way to protect his friends.
@@Direwolf181 Right? With pain all he would do is wander the streets, depressed and drowned in guilt. It's the love that slowly picked him up and made him motivated to make the world a better place for the ones he loves
As a german I want to point out that just last year, or so, they found 500 new Fairytales in Munich so there are 500 new ways to traumatise your children
Ooooh, have they been transcribed? I can deal with translation but not if I gotta also type it out haha. I have found German fairy tales to be pleasingly disturbing so it's worth the effort :D
Well it's not a strictly German thing. All those middle-european stories were peasant tales collected and brought into order by writers and researchers (Brothers Grimm for example). They are not traumatizing at all if you think about the brutality young people are confronted with by Hollywood, Boulevard Media, Sexualization and Streaming Services. Those tales together with modern stories from Astrid Lindgren, Michael Ende etc. did a great deal in teaching moral aspects and showing kids how fear is a part of life, that one must and can handle. For example stories like "Einer der auszog das Fürchten zu lernen" ("The Story of the young man who went forth to learn what fear was") is a perfect example for this. Alas other stories like "Die Gänsemagd" ("The Goosemaid") where the decapitated head of the horse Fallada speaks to a young girl every tlme she enters through the town gate, can seem rather harsh, none of them left deeper marks on whole generation. Or "Zwerg Nase" ("The big nosed dwarf") which is a tale of beeing different.
When Caleb tried the bug and immediately took it out of his mouth and set it down I pictured several cats getting distracted by trying to play with the bug
Liam: One of the most generous D&D players, listens carefully to everyone else's role playing , "yes and..." Also... Taliesin: "That's a very tall door" Liam: "No it isn't"
He is probably trying to follow the limits of the spell. Everything is limited to 10 feet in height from the Magnificent mansion unless you stack blocks on top of itself. so the door is probably only about 7-9 feet max. So all the spaces are probably calculated, and that was him trying to follow the limits of the spell, not prevent him from controlling it. note that later he encourages them to request any changes.
@@aaronwilliams8887 late to the party, but i'm guna second this. You could see how he kept glancing over to matt as if to make sure he wasn't pushing the boundaries of the spell, and also making a specific point that the paper and paints were "serviceable" at best, so it wouldn't have any benefit outside of thematics. (that being said I feel like making a firbolg sized door wouldn't really go too far outside the confines of the spell, but i understand Liam not wanting to step on Matt's toes).
I love how when Ashley says "he was trying to reach the city" both Travis and Laura immediately look to Matt to try to gauge a reaction from him... and he gives them NOTHIN.
I love that Caleb goes “a thousands yard stare for 30 seconds” after Beau rips a book page, because whenever he has a PTSD episode after burning someone to death he only gets paralyzed for 6 seconds.
I think I've figured out Matt Mercer's tell when his players are on to his plot twists. He takes a sip of his goblet as a way not to react otherwise to confirm or deny whatever Marisha is talking about during her theorizing.
I love how detailed Liam is when describing their new home. Side note anyone else realize each floor he paired them up according to the groups who started out together? Yasha and Molly/Cad, Beau Jester and Fjord, Caleb and Nott/Veth
@@chrism6315 idk Fjord showed up in this story with Jester and he is going to die in this story with Jester, It will be a super long and dramatically drawn out yet completely predictable ship that we all kind of saw coming. Although the girls clumping together and Fjord attaching onto his Wildmother mentor makes complete sense and I can understand the argument for your side.
@@BigggusDikkkus Fjord ending up with jester is travis ending up with Laura. Sad to say my mind is made up about that, just watch the talks machina clips where travis quotes Laura saying (paraphrasing) 'I'm going to romance you and you'll have to turn down your wife). He turned her down for like, over 100 episodes and then something changed on VO. Until travis gives an out of character explanation that actually makes sense I dont buy it narritavley, because he specifically said he wasn't going to do it, and Fjord seemed complete uninterested.
Just gonna say... Early on, I remember so many comments about how the "Keen Mind" feat was taken just to annoy Matt so that Caleb would always know what time it was. Now we get to this episode...and everything, _eve-ry-thing,_ in Caleb's Tower is because his mind, via the Keen Mind feat, retained it. Besides the Dust of Deliciousness outwitting a Hag, this has got to be the best use of something considered "useless" in all of D&D. May we all have friends who are just as loving, and caring, as Caleb is for the Mighty Nein -- despite everything he's been through, the pain and abuse he's suffered at the hands of Trent Ikithon...Trent never managed to kill that little spark of light within Caleb. That glimmer of his humanity, as he endured. And now, he has a family, a true family. As Caleb said it himself: "Welcome home." To which I add: Welcome Home, Mighty Nein. Brilliantly done, Liam. I have no other words.
I really love how the nein have always been so into remembering molly and keeping them with him. Like every time a molly thing is mentioned Tal looks so happy. The adventure heading in the direction of investigating his origin story seems like a really nice way to honour his memory
it also seems like a ooc way of making sure Tal feels appreciated. Molly was the first PC who stayed dead, and i know i'd be pretty bummed if my character never made enough of an impact on the rest of the party to the point they never spoke of me again.
Everyone here talking about...well...*THE SPOILER*. Not enough people are talking about Caleb's moment to himself in the top of the tower. Liam crafted that just *so...AMAZINGLY*! I was literally hanging on every moment of silence there was in that... ; ;
i'm not even exaggerating when i say that first hour was my fave "moment" in the entirety of campaign 2 so far, despite not being an insane battle or something as intense as *the spoiler* as there was clearly so much time and thought put into such a wonderful gesture, etc. i'm glad someone brought that up and that it wasn't entirely over-shadowed by the amazing end of the episode.
I love how the Gentleman went from denying Jester (more out of shame of himself and fear because he didn't know about her) to living her and feeling protective over her.
This whole CR phenomenon started as a bday gift to Liam, the first hour of this felt like Liam trying to share it back. :) And they say collaborative storytelling is dead, I can't imagine how happy & proud Matt must have felt letting someone else take over non-destructively for 1/3rd of the episode. :)
I'm not surprised that Caleb is possibly the only scourger in training that realised how fucked up the training was. What he did this episode displays a level of love and devotion to those he holds dear, that very few people have. Caleb is a very damaged person with an incredible heart. After all he's been through, he is still such a loving person.
Being inside of a group whose teachings warp the perception of reality of it's members is really weird. Everybody around you interprets reality the same way you do and everybody on the outside of that group seems weird and even non-sensical. Breaking out of such a group and acclimating to another reality tends to be traumatizing, depending on how you leave and how drastic the reality break is. The Mighty Nein are basically a self-help group, maybe even group therapy and Caleb is the one with the deepest trauma and the longest way to recovery, but he's walking the walk.
@@donb7519 that's actually so true, I had thought maybe there was a chance when Beau and Caduceus mentioned that there might be others who got out, but after Trent's whole "ur my favorite and i'm gonna groom you into a greater version of me" thing i'm starting to think Caleb might be the only one who survived his escape :/
@@forgemakesstuff2734 im not sure how long trents been doing his thing but i wanna say decades at least and you dont go decades with only 1 person snapping after going through that. Plus trent claims to be behind caleb waking up at the sanitarium too so he clearly always thought caleb had potential.
@@donb7519 he CLAIMS he's behind Caleb's freedom, but it could always be another ruse used to control Caleb's perception - that none of what he's done as really been of his free will. Trent has ALWAYS been about control, and i'm confident he'd never admit that he lost control when Caleb escaped - that in reality, it was just a fuck-up on his part. because then he'd give a glimpse of the man behind the mentor. he'd give Caleb reasonable doubt to his power, for once. i'm sure MANY have snapped, similar to Caleb, but i think Caleb's the only one who got away, even if Trent let him get away. we know from their dinner convo that he doesn't want to kill Caleb. he probably didn't share that sentiment with anyone else who escaped.
Yeah... the character development from Liam has been exceptional. These guys are all incredible player characters to have, and DMing for them would be extremely intimidating to anyone not named Matt Mercer. They would eat anyone else up.
As a french critter, I knew this day would come, When Sam would shame my country in an ad. I thought I was prepared, I was definitively not. Touché, Monsieur Riegel, Touché.
Same here, I laughed really hard at that bit. Then I just marveled at all the rest. Liam's taking over for an hour (I want that spell!), Marisha's brain working on override, Molly... Holly shit, guys!!!
Does anyone remember the one talks (I think) where Liam talked about how when giving backgrounds to Matt that, how he just waits around the corner for a random time and hits them with the background pieces like a baseball bat with barbed wire. Because it seems like he just did that.
Thats what my DM does to me! I gave him "large family in a secluded village in the mountains. Half the family went missing so I went to go find them." He gave me, kidnapped dad and mom (who was pregnant with twins), by crazy evil grandmother, who probably then proceeded to experiment on the twins. Shifter abilites on Moms side. Potential fae blood on Dads side. NOT TO MENTION, crazy grandmother is the cousin of the long dead Kings of the elven kingdom that fell to ruin nearly 1000 years ago. She started out as a simple ranger living in the woods y'all. Now she's fucking royalty. I literally spend every session just waiting for him to throw another ball at me 😂😂 I gave him far too much to play with.
This is the scene I want to see animated. The pay off of seeing all those pieces represented, all these characters represented, and the affection from such a reserved and modest character as Caleb.
Me: wanting to look through the comments to find people chuffed about the foundation announcement. The comments: "Go no further, mortal, for beyond this point lie spoilers beyond your worst imaginings!"
I'm pretty sure that's why that announcement came at the very start. Can you imagine them announcing that right after that end of an episode?! People would implode!
Got to rewatch all the times they interacted with Cree, now! 😁 Not(t) that I needed a reason to binge more CR. Side note: I'm so impressed with Marisha's conspiracy theory moment, like WOW 😳.
Idk if it was mentioned, but I like how Liam layered the levels. Essentially the closer/longer Caleb has known the character the higher up/closer they are to him. Veth being the closest character to him sharing his floor. Then Fjord, Jester and Beau whom he met and accepted them all around the same time. Yasha later because she kept popping in and out of the picture, then caduceus as the newest member of the party and lastly any guests.
It's not just that. It's the groups that was together when the Mighty Nein was formed. Veth+Caleb, Beau, Jester and Fjord. He would have put Yasha with Mollymauk, but now it happens to be the two newest members and they also have a common link with bugs and flowers.

“Sorry about the cliffhanger there folks...” No, you’re not a bit sorry. I loved watching both Matt’s and Talesin’s faces through all the conjecturing. Matt is just stone-faced (I can’t even fathom all the plot twists that are crammed in his brain) while Talisen is much more animated.
I wonder how often he changes his plot twists as a result of Marisha's conspiracy theories (or any cast members). Since the floating city accidentally bamfed to another plane and became the scary city is hilarious and awsome. Like i wonder how many times he hears something like that and goes "I like that better, so thats the new plot twist" also when players a right they freak. Also tal is in love with how Matt's long-con of his "dead" character and backstory is so interesting. (And potentially missable)

three words: holy shit, marisha. watching her piece together and break down her theory about how the tombtakers/vess derogna/the living city were connected was probably one of my favorite moments in this campaign so far
TBF, the clerics only just got access to 7th level spells, before now reviving Molly would've been impossible, and speaking with him from beyond the grave wouldn't've served much purpose since at the time all of this nine eyes mumbo jumbo was his personal business that didn't really connect to the rest of the Mighty Nein, and given that Molly didn't even want to probe into his own backstory it woulda been kinda disrespectful for the Nein to do it unless they had a good reason, which they now have.
@@Renigade68 impossible is the wrong word. I'm sure if they wanted to they could've gone on this long, grand quest to find a hermit, or cleric or whatever that knows resurrection or true res.
I think Flock of Familiars does just that. You can get 3 Familiars at second level, but get one additional Familiar with every spell level higher. Added bonus of being able to cast touch spells through one Familiar per turn, but it lasts for one concentrated hour.
@@MrSoup-zs4rd While that is a good idea, Im thinking more of a true “swarm” creature with a unified health pool and resistance to physical damage. Presumably a higher level spell depending on the strength of the swarm.
@@Cultureghost Yeah that would be cool to see. I'll bet Liam could have also reskined Galder's Speedy Courier to work with Frumpkin, sending messages and small packages across the plane.
@@ChickenPotato.Chitato That, and Caleb's description of his tower. But yeah, I could feel complex equations floating around my head while Marisha was presenting Beau's theory. I'm not one to fall for conspiracy theories, but holy hell was that a ride. SPOILERS!!!: If Beau's theory is right, and Aeor is still around and the whole crashing thing was just a ruse, that means there's still a pre-calamity mage society out there with means to literally kill gods. This is huge, like, universe-altering huge.
Being someone that missed all the lore, I was wondering WTF did Mercer actually planned all that and how the hell did she figure it out? xD I also think that the only capable of following her thought was Laura, the others were a bit lost imo. Anyone else thinks this?
Caleb why ~~~~ Nobody checked in on him about the dinner since they left the grounds He spent so much time and effort on a collective love letter to the Nein Still doesn't think he is worthy of gifts without paying them back (double standard still intact for himself ;-;) "I'm going to hell anyways" The mind of Caleb is the tower: friends, books, cats, magical doors, and crippling self-loathing My boy
As someone who has been traumatized, Caleb is not an unfamiliar character. Years of self loathing and repeated internalizations of inadequacy, of abuse, of gaslighting... It becomes a part of you. Even when you can consciously recognize it and rebuke it, it only takes a momentary lapse in focus for the automatic nature of the programming to start that self deprecating playlist over in your head, like background music until you recognize it again and take the needle off. Caleb has come a long way, but he might always struggle with those kinds of knee jerk responses.
Does anybody else come back to this episode just to watch Caleb describe in full detail his love letter to his family? Matt just sits for like a solid full 60 minutes while Liam describes in great detail this incredible tower. And as of my post here they are on episode 130 now and this tower is already a staple of the group and is one of the most beautiful things about this campaign. I can't wait to see where things go from here, but the fact that this tower is a part of any of it at all is fucking wonderful. Unbelievably potent storytelling.
I like to rewatch this episode when I start feeling down about humanity. If people would love each other half as much as Liam loves his friends our world would be so much better.
The time and care Liam put into that is astonishing and a real testiment to how much he values this game and the people he plays it with. This is beyind good roleplay, this is heart and love and it's so beautiful to see.
When you put Caleb's behaviour regarding the mansion - the attention and care he put into everyone's rooms, the way he presents it as a gift to his friends - in the context of his history, it's really quite touching. Even a little heartbreaking.
He didn’t appreciate the connection of family before. It’s kind of beautiful how much he treasures the Nein. I’m not sure exactly when he let them all in- probably after they lost Molly- but he’s come so far.
@@seanmetts7341 Molly’s death fundamentally changed the perspective of the rest of the Nein. They then had a shared purpose: To leave the world better than they found it in memory of their fallen friend. They also found common ground in that moment and learned to really love each other. Molly may have not been in the Campaign much (I specifically mean Molly, not Lucius or Kingsly) but he had a massive impact as a character and a friend.
first time hearing Caleb describe the rooms as he joyously runs around show off his creation, i get the feeling of this is what a tourtured soul who is used to being sad would be like when making and giving something to the people he loves. :D A bit akward but in his own way telling all of his friends. I love you all. Thank you for being in my life and being my friends.

Salty People: CRITICAL ROLE RUINED DND WITH MERCER EFFECT
Actual Critical Role: Matt chills for an hour while the cast dm themselves
@@oriandthesleepytime ohhhh shit! I have actually heard of that happening before, even sometimes in my home games. Thanks.

Yes Matt is an amazing and passionate DM supported by an incredible group of hugely talented actors (who are trained to understand and embrace playing other people) and a crew of talented individuals backstage.

We will never live up to her note taking. We can try but never live up to her.
She needs to teach a vlass on notetaking damn
Liam: "Would it be nonagonal?"
Matt: "What?! Oh, the room..."
I can’t believe Caleb wrote a love letter to all of his friends. I was crying a bit listening to Liam describe all of this.
Hits especially hard comparing it to Liam's Quest final act
Just watched this and thought the same thing. You could see the joy they all had in sharing this together.
when liam admitted he's nervous i thought it was sweet as hell
@@k.whatever9046 that's what got me too! He worked so long and hard on this, it was his baby!
I LOVE this 😂
Don't forget...
Indeed, consistently excellent work on the captions. I especially enjoyed "French" accent in quotes for Marisha's announcement.
Ikr you could tell he definitely put alot of love in and out of the game for that one!
To quote a beloved meme: “You know what that is?” “Growth!”
To be fair
At the beginning of the campaign he was super squishy and could very easily die in one hit.

Liam: One of the most generous D&D players, listens carefully to everyone else's role playing , "yes and..."
Also... Taliesin: "That's a very tall door"
Liam: "No it isn't"
He is probably trying to follow the limits of the spell. Everything is limited to 10 feet in height from the Magnificent mansion unless you stack blocks on top of itself. so the door is probably only about 7-9 feet max. So all the spaces are probably calculated, and that was him trying to follow the limits of the spell, not prevent him from controlling it. note that later he encourages them to request any changes.
@@aaronwilliams8887 late to the party, but i'm guna second this.
I have no other words.

it also seems like a ooc way of making sure Tal feels appreciated. Molly was the first PC who stayed dead, and i know i'd be pretty bummed if my character never made enough of an impact on the rest of the party to the point they never spoke of me again.
Everyone here talking about...well...*THE SPOILER*.
Not enough people are talking about Caleb's moment to himself in the top of the tower. Liam crafted that just *so...AMAZINGLY*! I was literally hanging on every moment of silence there was in that... ; ;
Absolutely agreed. Can only dream of having players like Liam who want to contribute to the narrative instead of relying on DM to fill in the gaps.

Such a beautiful description he made. It really shows how much he (as both Liam and Caleb) cares about his friends.
Liam said he had been working on the tower for a year. That's DM level world building. Liam is amazing.
i'm not even exaggerating when i say that first hour was my fave "moment" in the entirety of campaign 2 so far, despite not being an insane battle or something as intense as *the spoiler* as there was clearly so much time and thought put into such a wonderful gesture, etc. i'm glad someone brought that up and that it wasn't entirely over-shadowed by the amazing end of the episode.
I love how the Gentleman went from denying Jester (more out of shame of himself and fear because he didn't know about her) to living her and feeling protective over her.
Like! I do it via comment, so I don't ruin the perfect amount of likes.
this made my heart sO happy

@@Luinta I really like how well you said that.
his room is just that door.
Exactly what I am doing right now. 😆
A year later, campaign3 episode20 just aired and I still comeback to re-experience this beautifull loveletter
i literally decided to do this just now since i wanted to experience this magic all over again.

Both/Veth casually making fun of a mafia boss EVERY time they meet and somehow not having incurred their wrath is the greatest thing ever
first time hearing Caleb describe the rooms as he joyously runs around show off his creation, i get the feeling of this is what a tourtured soul who is used to being sad would be like when making and giving something to the people he loves. :D
A bit akward but in his own way telling all of his friends. I love you all. Thank you for being in my life and being my friends.
Only just realised that the opening thing for the final floor of the tower translates to 'Gone but not forgotten'
Oh? I definitely missed that one
Good catch!!!!
its both weird and funny to have non-native German speakers learn German via CritRole
Ep 112.
Matt "Welcome every.."
Laura "I cast sending!"
Caleb describing this pocket dimension was my first experience with critical role and made me watch this whole campaign - I feel weirdly emotional reaching this point
That's how I was with the episode of spurt! I was like "wow, I have really changed since I was introduced to this"
Caleb's tower Is a love letter to the mighty nein and all of his best friends and I am so here for it
