I am thinking of doing the same. Although the lad with me on this trip had the Zumo and still had the same problems, only thing we did notice is that his Zumo routed around closed roads the BMW Nav6 didn't even though i have live traffic etc Once we knew this we started to take more notice of his. also the BMW Nav6 can take 5 minutes to recalculate which is ridiculous, you come to junctions with no idea where to go as its not ready to give instructions. i had to rely on my phone quite a bit, which again is so wrong when you have spent £550 on a dedicated GPS unit Will have a look at what's available and get the best suited.
Do you use Basecamp to plan your routes and set waypoints? Even if you take a minor detour to visit something, it should recalculate back onto your original track to the next waypoint. You can always use the Detour function to go around road closures and even skip the next waypoint to bring you back on track further down your route. Sorry if Im teaching you to suck eggs, and Basecamp is a bit rubbish but you can make it work quite well with lots of practice.
I used to use Basecamp, but recently been using My Route App website to plan routes and send to the Garmin. TBH i had problems with Basecamp too lol, i think it might be me 🙄
@@MotoTripTV Give Basecamp another go. It takes me hours to plan foreign tours but it does work. In particular, persevere with Waypoints, Shaping points and Using the Detour and Skip waypoint functions on the Nav. Worst case if you get stuck on a journey, restart your route on the Nav, and it’ll ask where you want your starting point to be out of your waypoints and you can pick one a bit further on and you’ll recover your route. Not easy to explain, but I’ve learned a lot through experience and practice.
To be honest a lot of the Garmin issues are to do with the spring loaded pins on the rear. Any abberation with the pins … can lead to a “new route calculation “. As you discovered , it’s heartbreaking….
I don't mind being detoured normally, but on this trip I've missed some things that i planned to visit because my sat-nav took me away from them, even though i was supposed to pass them. I think i need to invest in something better, either tablet or GPS
Agreed my Garmin is the same, i payed for the lifetime gold membership on My Route App online, So good for planning trips and you can use many different maps Then use the app on yoru phone for navigation, so far so good.
Just a thought. As Garmin runs off American military satellites, perhaps they are to busy watching Ukraine and Russia 🤔, to bother with a Rochdale lads directions?
lots of riders that have BMW motorrad have had problems but have upgraded to garmin zumo XT or XT2 and the problems went away

Come to Mummy ! A Tall sign and a White Donkey , this is better than any Netflix Box set, lovin it.
It sounded like "Come to mummy to me"
I played it over and over while editing, I'm still convinced that's what she said.... she was playing us lol
She said "komm mit mir" ... Means "come with me".
Thank you 👍 @@manishsultania5745

I think Garmin is great if you are going from A to B but, if you impute a route it seems to bloody please itself where it takes you. 🙁.
