  • Euro Tunnel Crossing Chunnel LeShuttle
    After our failed attempt at the Euro Tunnel check in, we retry to get access to the Chunnel also known as Leshuttle to make our way home.
    This video is good for anyone who hasn't used this service before, i gives you an idea of what to expect.
    I'm sure your crossing will be simpler than mine.

      @@MotoTripTV the roads haven’t been repaired for 20 years man, you don’t think that shit roads just happened in the last 5 surely? The Tory effect is a huge contributing factor. But 50 years ago our roads were better , effectively maintained by people that worked directly for the local authority not some corporate subsidiary. The eu had us create test centres at vast expense using the best materials so that kids could do the cbt and milenials can pass their trailer test. The money was diverted from road maintenance.

He told me Anzio was worse than D-Day in his experience. When I listened to you in the commonwealth cemetery you had me welling up also. He passed in 2017 aged 95 good innings considering !! Ive used the tunnel many times on the bike. Lessons I've learned... Don't use satnav - follow signs off the motorway but pay attention, if you get lost there aren't any signs!, stick together if you all want to be on the same train, don't park up int at shelter near the terminal, go straight through the 2 passport controls as there is often a big queue. If you are early they usually put you on an early train to get rid of you. No need to tie bikes down - be careful as you get off your bike as the next rider will be closer than you expect. Don't fall off as you leave the train!

What are these big white arrows on the road for, only one way you can go, the roundabout route stops holdups out of the parking area when it's really busy. As for temperature the last time I used the tunnel from Calais in 2022 it was 30 degrees plus with around 30 minutes wait in the sun before the customs and around 10 to 20 minutes in the final waiting area. The bikes temperature gauge was over 40 degrees by this time. Found it no problem to go through checkout as I had prebooked it months before and had a code number to enter.

    We’ve used the channel tunnel once. Never again. Prefer the leisurely crossing to Rotterdam/ Hook of Holland avoiding the dreadful motorway journey to Dover. The train isn’t pillion friendly, either, if you have a “tall rider” style bike* and a tall pillion. Getting off the bike once onboard is difficult, getting on impossible. My pillion had walk off the train then get on the bike.

    You've got that Merlin mesh jacket same as me, I've yet to dare go touring in it. I was going to wear a heated vest and a lightweight down jacket under it with a waterproof to go over it but seems a faff , i'm sure i would appreciate it when it gets hot, it's mainly my arms that suffer when it gets chilly. How did you get on with it and how did you layer up, would be interested to know , i've tried so much crap to find the perfect touring jacket i doubt it even exists .

    • @MotoTripTV
      @MotoTripTV  6 днів тому +1

      The jacket was comfy to all day ride in, its made to let air flow and it does so you need a windproof over layer when in colder weather.
      I wore and under armour zipped top underneath when it got a little chilly and if it rained i wore an Oxford Rainseal over jacket which is windproof too.
      The combination did work, but as you say changing layers each time you stop is a faff.
      Ive since bought a Klim Carlsbad jacket and pants which is better for all year riding but you still need a fleece under it in cold weather. in hot weather the merlin jacket would be better as the air flow through the vents on the Klim is poor.
