I've seen people talk online about installing DAZ in a non-standard location on their hard drive so as to have a "back up copy" of the program available if DAZ updates the version of DAZ Studio and breaks or orphans a bunch of functionality in the process (as sometimes happens). Is switching the install directory location for DAZ, as here, one of the ways to prevent non-optional upgrades of the program, or am I misunderstanding the process? Thanks for all your videos, Rauko. I'm always glad to see the new ones arrive!
No, this will just be for location where your bought, downloaded and installed assets go ... The main Daz 3D program is what you'll want to backup (or the entire folder) .. which will be where you initially installed it back in the day .. if you're on PC .. right click on the Daz 3D icon on your desktop and hit properties .. you should see the folder that Daz is installed to in the "Target" field .. Back up THAT directory and if / when Daz updates - you'll still have your current version of Daz available
So then, once you've set up the new content library location on another drive, how do you get the existing content over to it? Is it just a drag and drop in Windows Explorer to move the files from the old location to the new?
Hi Rauko, I don't use the DIM on my setup, I just import new content manually directly in the Content Library..that works for me. But it's good to know both ways! Thanks for all you do.
I mostly just install it manually too .. I keep having to clear DIM out because DIM gets it's installed notice from DIM itself - so if you do it manually, your Ready To Download list in DIM never clears! I end up questioning my own sanity wondering what I have installed and don't! But .. knowing how to create new directories for Daz to know where assets are is useful so hopefully somebody gets something out of it!
@@RaukoDaz3D Same here DIM however makes it easy to find all the package updates so usually end up using both ways. Still recall the horrors to get daz accept an custom install path the first install, it just blank out refused and still placed it all in the defaults. Still look for a good way to also move the content.db
@@mikael2670 Yeah, that's all that I use DIM for myself - I like to always download and install manually so I can keep the zip file incase anything blows up my end and i have to re-install everything without having to download it all first .. it's unlikely, as I have two drives backing up the data on my content drive - but better safe than sorry!
Hello, I am virgin the DAZ . However I am having a difficult time seeing items on the screen, therefore I hope you could do close up - zoom in on items as you lecture.
Hey there .. are you getting "" a valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established" pop up window error?" If so .. close the window and right click on your Smart Content tab or the Content Library tab and look down the menu option for "Start CMS" - give it a click. See if that works .. sometimes starting it manually is all that's required .. if that doesn't work .. let me know and we can delve a little deeper

@@RaukoDaz3D Thanks for the explanation! As with many things in life, I know just enough to know that I don't know.🙂Be well!

Hey there - yeah, that will be the way to do it .. there's nothing in Daz that will allow that . so it's copy and paste within windows ..

Hi Rauko, Could you do a review on the new 1-Click PBRSkin? Thanks!
I haven't had a look at that yet .. do you have it yourself? Do you think it's worth it?
