I remember when this game won an award at The Game Awards 2020 (which was all virtual) Sean Murray was in the middle of taking a drink when they cut to his camera for his speech. Clearly he had not been expecting to win. What a guy.
I was watching it to live, and that was hilarious. He thought that Fortnite was gonna win for sure, but nope. No Man's Sky won, and it was perfect.
@@dlazyace9116 I wanted to like your comment but it has 69 likes so i unfortunately can't. Still take this one at least: 👍
The studio just needed more time and less pressure from Sony to pump it out as fast as possible and it could’ve been successful on launch
Fun Fact:
Sean himself actually watched the video and went around reccomending that people don't watch the last ~5 minutes XD
that’s my favourite part of the whole story, he went from “hey watch this video” to “oh god” like _that_
🤣 that last part was so perfect
So of course, the first thing we did was to watch the end first, the start later. XD
He failed.
But that s the beauty of it. He still had the candor, the naivity to believehe could stop the internet from that last 5 min
I didn't expect you guys to watch but I'm not complaining. This was definitely one hell of a redemption story.
@@LiquidFireN2X they added more than just what they've promised, all of the promises checklists are pretty much done from about years ago, but they still adding so much more content to this day. From the state it is in right now, I could say it's way more than we could've had. It's filled with so many contents.
Just like how internet historian said, not many developers would want to do the same thing, and it was pretty much an another good story on its own.
@@NowlZeoPlus so is the moral of the story "it's okay to make a bunch of promises about your game and deliver on none of them at launch to millions of people, so long as you _eventually_ get around to finishing them"?
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that the team didn't just take people's money and run with it, they did stick with things to fulfill the vision. But for me at least, what that does is help recover some of the respect lost; it does _not_ help it reach a net positive
Yah it is but the problem is how many moderm games are following those foot steps. I'm talking about the whole set the game in high price, release it in a broken state and fix it later mentality I don't think it's a good thing.
My point is of course not encouraging to set on the "release it broken, fix it later" mentality, sorry if it wasn't being to clear since I can't pretty much set up a words to speak what I think 🙏
All I'm saying is, this is going to be a story which I think everyone will remember and look back to, people can learn from this mistakes and set up a new point of views. This "engoodening" story itself makes me respect what they have done with the game now but it doesn't mean I can gloss over of what they have "promised". For my point of view based on what I gather from the 2 sides of the story from the video, + if I compare it with another studios, I just have to give them a proper salute seeing them being respectful and very close to the community even until now.
Just like reading or listening to folkstories, a journey that is so awful, but still, you can't help to pick up the good moral conclusion from it.
from my honest heart, that's the sort of mentality that I have now
I still have some of my thoughts but I can't put it to words, but hey you guys can change my mind or straighten me up if it's not the kind of opinion that you wanted or something to add, I'm all ears :D
@@NowlZeoPlus I respect that, and I appreciate that you are civil with your opinion and explanation (i realize that my initial response could have been taken as slightly accusatory).
I do think the good of this story is also important and shouldn't be forgotten; it's an excellent example of how it's possible for one to atone after messing up so incredibly royally. I just think that it's equally as important to make sure it's _blindingly_ clear that, no matter how impressive a redemption Hello Games had, the story of No Man's Sky should absolutely remain a cautionary tale to general gaming audiences to keep expectations in check and to wait for reviews to come in before buying games. There are plenty of big gaming companies who would not have put any where near this kind of effort into repairing things, and it's crucial that they do not get the impression that they could get away with that.
The Story of No Man's Sky is probably the greatest redemption arc that the gaming community has ever seen.
Not just the greatest, the only!
@@FireCat14 FF14.
@@kn0bhe4d okay maybe not only but it's sitting on the #1 spot!
The story of that fanfiction tho is the greatest art has ever accomplished.
Um... Can I put Cyberpunk in the list? It was crap when it came out, and they have not abandoned it yet, as far as I know.
I'm so glad you guys watched this. Easily one of the most heartwarming redemption arcs in the gaming industry's history! Just imagine, some of the people that helped fund that thank you billboard were also the very people that might have sent death threats during launch. Seeing the internet turn around and lift Hello Games up on their shoulders was amazing.
If you're interested in more Internet Historian, I KNOW that I'm not the only one who will recommend The Fall of 76. It's basically the *opposite* of this story from a MAJOR gaming publisher. If this was the redemption arc, that video is the cautionary tale of what NOT to do!
The fall of 76 is on our list to check out. Loved the redemption arc in this story though. Very heartwarming ☺️
God yes. Your getting into some internet historian. Much love. Much much love for this legend here. Keep up your amazing work. You two always add a little sunshine to mine and I’m sure everyone’s day
Aww. Thanks for the kind words and letting us know we’re having a positive effect. Always puts a smile on our face hearing that 🙂😊
After the release of this video, Hello Games released 13-15 other Updates.
NMS has become the Gift that keeps on Giving, with a HUGE community supporting it
And totally free, not a paid update since launch, that's dedication.
No Mans Sky's redemption is one of the best in gaming. I have recently bought the game and i have been having a blast with it.
@@LiquidFireN2X Hello games, an indie studio was still able to do much more than most triple A companies after a disastrous launch. I'm much more willing to empathize with an indie studio failing to deliver a full game at launch and slowly working to finish the game and add more stuff, even though they could have ran with the money, than a triple A studio who has no business releasing half finished games with a thousand more employees. And unlike every other company, they never added payed DLC or microtransactions. They remained honest and truthful and took full blame for their failings. If you don't like the game that's fine, but if you can't appreciate an honest redemption story by good people and not some corporate overlords than that's on you. Oh also, if you don't like the game or the topic at all, than why did you watch this video? Just to shit on other people who like the game ?
@@LiquidFireN2X they aren’t praised the same bc they aren’t actually good games despite this “fixed” state you claim. Who tf plays Destiny in 2023? I could find a thousand people playing NMS no problem
So the next logical step would be to watch "The Fall of 76" by Internet Historian as well. Another masterpiece and very popular video.
Compare and Contrast, two great discourses that go great together!
Awesome that you guys are watching Internet Historian, his content is great. One of my favourite vids of his is "The Fall of 76". That'd definitely be worth a reaction vid too. Cheers!
We plan on checking that video out in the future 😀
"The Fall of 76" is also pretty good^^
On our request list 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames nice^^
I’ve played No mans sky since 2016, and it’s become my favorite sci-fi game of all time. It’s grown so much over the years and I’m glad I got to see that.
It should be noted, they have had like 12 big updates since this came out, including stuff like living ships, frontiers, outlaws, and expeditions. I went from extreme disappointment to love.
What makes this story the best story is this story is pure fantasy. Devs do not do this, and publishers SURE AS HELL do not let them do this. Ever. EVER. This is one of those moments where the exception makes the rule. Hello had absolutely no reason to return to the game and do what they did, and when modern occurrences of this same of happenstances, the customers almost always get left behind, even with companies like Bethesda and Micro$oft involved.
One in a million.
One a million for sure. Just goes to show how much caring actually matters. Caring about the gaming community. Caring about customers. Caring about the work you do and put out in the world. 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Couldn't have said it better.
Who ever suggested this, I give you my utmost respect. This video is a masterpiece and has been since day 1. Great choice 🙏🏻❤
Loved your discussion after the video, think this is definitely the longest you've had a post video discussion, goes to show how potent the video really is. You two are great 😁
Could you check out Bricky's two videos on Warhammer 40k: Darktide? They're really good and, to me at least, endlessly entertaining, I think you'd love them. "How to play Darktide" and "How well does Darktide do Warhammer" are the names. I'm not all that bothered if you don't, just keep doing what you're doing, I'm here for it. It would make me and all the other **puts on Space Marine helmet** BROTHERS...quite happy, but, you do you 👌🏼😁👍🏻
We love Brickys videos and he has a fun way to introduce Warhammer to people so wouldn’t mind checking that out at some point 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Happy to hear, hope you two have been well! :)
I just want to say that I really love your content, you are one of the few reactors that have an actual positive feedback I've been watching a lot of your videos and I always wait for your final comments, and specially in this video I like how you two perceive the spehere that is internet and life in general, you are opinion is definitely interesting
Literally textbook example of developers being able to still be received overwhelmingly positive if they just make a game they were bombarded for, good.
listening to their story genuinely almost makes me cry. They deserved better, and they do extremely good work.
I always get a bit emotional when I hear the story of Hello Games. It's just so inspiring and uplifting. It sounds like a bargain bin straight to DVD movie story but it actually happened.
Haha it for sure sounds Hallmark esque. Too good to be true 😊
The internet historian is amazing. His Cost of Concordia and Area 51 videos are top tier!
Thanks for the recommendations for more of his videos to check out 🙂
I can empathise with Hello Games, the hype train was so big and had so much momentum I don’t think they knew how to stop it.
I have over 1K hours playtime on No Man’s Sky over PS4 and PC, it’s a game I absolutely love now.
Love the reaction.
Expectations can be crushing for sure. Glad you are getting so much enjoyment out of the game 😀
So funny thing Murray watched Internet Historian’s video. Said it was great but the last couple of minutes were cursed.
i love your commentary at the end, i especially love these kinds of commentary at each internet historian reactions, and yeah i agree
Action does speak alot louder than words. You guys earned a sub! :D
I just couldn't get my eyes of the whole time of this chair perfectly allined with the "W" 😂
Internet historian always very great
Oooooo, I was expecting we'd eventually get to covering the Internet Historian.
Quite a long format on him, but his "documentaries" are truly entertaining.
Might've been better to start with the Fallout 76 one to give better context to couple bits in this one, but I suppose it's not really a huge deal.
Can't wait for the Cost of Concordia and Area 51 specifically.
The pep talk about not getting angry at other ppl was pretty useful. Ty
His Fallout 76 and the Area 51 videos is pretty good too.
Sean is the man Todd Howard wishes to be but can never achieve.
Internet historian is 10/10 content creator.
Man in a hole by Internet Historian is FANTASTIC, highly recommended.
it's only been about a week since the latest update. Happened so fast I didn't even realise until my planetary settlement was suddenly attack my new enemies I'd never fought before. If the game keeps getting updated this quickly, I can't wait to see what the NMS Universe will look like a few years from now
Omfg, I did not expect the last part. Sean is cute and all but the man is married!
Really glad to see a reaction to an Internet Historian video. Hope to see you two do more reactions to his stuff. He has a lot of good videos.
Really enjoyed this first video from him so we’d be down to check out more 🙂
Holy! Internet historian. We in for a treat today
😎🤟🥳
YES!!!! Internet Historian!!!! He is awesome and I'm so happy you guys decided to react to one of his videos. Quite honestly all of his videos that I have watched so far have been great. Since this channel is your video games centric channel I would 100% recommend The Fall of 76 after the Engoodening of No Man's Sky. 😁
Ooooookay this is unexpected! Very much so but oh boy this is gonna be a great hour. Thanks for the vid ahead of time! Can only hope to see more internet historian here.
I'm playing it rn imagine a game that has no MICROTRANSACTIONS supports glitch building and communicating and solving glitches thru patches and not a pay to win game
Nice, didn't expect this to get in but I'm happy
😉 it was very close to being in top ten. Missed it by a couple votes 🤗
The channel Storymode is run by Internet Historian's editors, features him, and is as good as everything else Internet Historian
I literally rewatched this last night since im back on a no mans sky kick. Great timing
Internet Historian makes great videos that are worth watching even if you don't make reaction videos for them.
He doesn't have a ton of videos because they obviously take a lot of time and effort to make, but they are damn hilarious.
48:15 the woman speaking is RWBY voice actress Lindsay Jones, who voices Ruby Rose in the show
Beyond was version 2.0 of No Man's Sky.
We are now, in version 4.0, they just keep releasing a LOT of stuff and even brought the game to Switch somehow.
Please keep watching the Internet Historian, he makes amazing videos!
You guys should definitely check out his Fallout 76 video.
Great ending!❤ Glad i tuned in
Glad you enjoyed it 🤗
Always a treat to see a fresh reaction to internet historian videos, yours was great, loved the discussion at the end!
The Balloon boy story Internet Historian was also very good and does the same thing where it shows both sides, gives you a different perspective.
The next video I would definitely recommend. The Fall of 76. One of the funniest ones IMO.
technically it was "multiplayer" at the time.
since people can change planets/plants/lifeforms/rocks and other stuff names. so if someone else find the same planet - they can see someone else has found it first.
That is "technically" multiplaying - it is player interaction. just not live multiplayer interaction.
Legendary 180 of gaming history
Please continue this rabbit hole of Internet Historian. Super fun videos
New update released a few days ago, with some great additions. That's almost 7 years improving the game already (and they don't seem to be done just yet).
The Fall of 76 needs to be next, just trust me. Do it for the Duffle Kerfuffle!
The unopened celebration bottle of champagne in the pictures of the office speeks sad volumes on the state of mind those guys had to be in.
FINALLY INTERNET HISTORIAN! he literally makes the best videos his best video is fall of 76 please give it a watch at some point, you guys are the best 👌
You know Fall of 76 has been on our list for quite a while 😜 we will get around to it though 😅
Keep in mind, No Man Sky had about 5 updates since Internet Historians video, the game is alive and well
Oh wow! More Internet Historian please!
Finally :D.We have begun the Internet Historian reactions.
Have to give kudos to this game studio for sticking by their game and fixing it. There are big game developers who immediately give up instead of fixing the game and make it really good.
Love these long reactions like it's nice getting all cozy with you guys especially on such a great video you're reacting too as well.
All of Internet Historians videos are worth watching. All of them.
Very cool discussion. A welcome surprise, for sure.
You need to check No Man’s Sky 5th anniversary Trailer❤
There is a reason why Internet historian is so popular. He combines knowledge and research with Humor. I would honestly recommend all of his videos because non of them are the same. They are pretty long but at least you actually learn something. Because you know us always online folks. We dont learn shit if its all serious and stuff.
Yes! More Internet Historian! He's got so much great stuff!
😎👍😀
YES! PLEASE!! As everyone else is asking, please more Internet Historian!!!
😎👍🥳
The story from internet Historian, convinced me to by the Game...... twice, for Xbox and Playstation.
No Man's Sky has been a Game that I only heard about in passing before that point and I only knew that it had "Space" in it or whatever.
im so shocked and happy that u actually reacted to internet historen i have what to do for the next hour now
Internet Historian content is peak quality
Fun fact, this game is still getting huge free updates till this very day.
You guys literally watched the whole ending, that's pretty impressive
If you haven't seen it yet you HAVE to watch the "Cost of Concordia" that Internet Historian does, its hysterical
Sean seems like a very nice guy who just does not like talking up himself or his work. He made right on his mistake, though, because I bought the game twice. When it was first released on PS4 and on PC years later.
Always appreciate your videos, I find them rational and often very insightful.
Great video! I heavily reccommend Internet historian and his second channel, incognito mode. All of his videos are high quality, he has gaming and non-gaming related videos and I think his content style would click with you guys a lot. Again, great vid.
Well this was a wake up slap, open my phone and seeing this :D I'm super happy that you guys reacted to this... Love you both and love IH!
If you guys enjoyed that last part, you might enjoy him reading My Immortal, a legendary harry potter fanfic.
(on the other channel ofcourse)
I never was into No Man's Sky, but this story is glorious. Props to them saying screw the press and rebuilding their rep
P.S. That fanfic at the end was comedy gold.
the internet historian has made a lot of very interesting documentaries about... the internet
Internet historians fye festival video is also really good Highly recommend!
Thanks for the recommendation, Lexi! 😀
Internet Historian is (easily) one of the best channels on UA-cam
The thing about this that hits me the most is that this was a game company run by gamers and computer tech who knew what to do and had honest intentions in what they where doing. They went as far to stay true to there player bace and more. Which is a big deal.
gotta say lol, you guys reacting to stuff ive seen before kinda fills that role of my parents watching the stuff that i like. I've always wanted to watch these with them but this is the closest thing i have since we dont really have that much time together lol
Parasocial relationship aside, what happens when you get a reccommendationb that doesn't fit into the standards of this channel? Like, surely you have 2 or 3 reccommends that just didnt work out or are too confused to really understand anything?
That’s kind of why we started the second channel we have. It was to work in stuff that doesn’t fit on this channel which turned into more of a gaming focus. But now the second channel has kind of turned into a movie,tv animation thing. Still doesn’t have such a singular focus as this one though so we will throw in some random stuff from time to time 🙂
Am really surprised you guys chose this! Please check out Man in Cave and Cost of Concordia for Internet Historians best stuff.
And we just all got another new update for the game from Sean and Hello Games. So they are still chugging along on NMS. It's amazing 🤩
I appreciate what Hello Games did, sticking with their cards in spite of the disastrous launch. They deserve respect for that, and all the awards are well-earned.
That being said, I'm still going to be critical. What's the point of buying a game if I have to wait a long time for it to actually deliver on its promises.
It'll be better later? Well I bought this game NOW.
internet historian is more than we all deserve
These are some of the best internet documenteries on youtube. Definetly check out more by him when you get the chance. Also, Down the Rabbit Hole makes some really good documenteries as well, though a bit less shit posty.
Thanks for the other channel recommendation 🙂
Not a problem! I should probabbly correct myself. The channel is called Fredrik Knudson. The series is called Down the Rabbit Hole.
I'd highly recommend his most recent video Hole. It features my second favorite UA-camr as a voice in it and it's a good story. Or his video The Gentleman Pirate apart of his Sundance Rejects series. It has two parts and is also a really good story.
Also I remember being on Reddit the day the game came out but before word on it really came out. He did an AMA (ask me anything) and I didn't really remember the game trailer at all. However I read through the thread because it got a lot of attention. It's not really the game for me but I remember wishing the game the best because the guy seemed pretty loving of his game. Then I never heard of it again until Internet Historian's video. Glad they got redeemed.
Also Internet Historian's side channel stuff is very entertaining. It's basically his main channel. For some of his videos he'll have a follow up video there and talk a little bit about the video's development along with more information.
Thanks for the video recommendations for more Internet Historian 😀
Yesssssssss some Internet Historian, thank u guys a lot
I am one of the few that never took my money back, not because I didn't had the chance to, but because I choose not to. I didn't ridiculed them for what they said even when on launch day they got a bug that my processor was not supported (while it clearly was) and I wasn't able to play it for a week because they had to patch it. I saw that the foundations for success were there, this could become something bigger if they were willing to fight for it and they did. :) I am somewhat good in seeing the good in game products, I am a master founder in Warframe after all, I spot its potential during closed beta so I think I have a good feeling about potential of games, if the devs act on it, that usually lead to success, if they don't... oh well, what fun could there been.
Btw just a side note, all No Man's Sky updates were FREE, they still put out updates without requiring payment for anything else but the game it self.
Internet Historian's great. Check out his Sundance Rejects Gentleman Pirate video if you want some humor, or man in a cave if you want to be depressed.
I love Internet historian, you should react to Man in Cave, I believe that is the most recent video.
It's finally here....
😅
yea, after release with no mans sky updates and feature drops goes something like this (bit exageration)
- christmas day evening , no presents under tree ... then damn Thor wearing santa beard flies in thru the wall mjonir first with some crazy stuff as a present .
well really its goes like this - some patches comes for stuff what was released before ,
but not a single word about whats gona drop or when it gona drop ,
then boom - trailer about new content comes on their social channels and content is released same day same day.
like theres sometimes not enough time to research the trailer before being able to try that stuff yourself in game
I didn't see any of the hype for the game, and got it fairly close to release and loved it. I loved it immediately. For me it was a fantastic chill experience, just flying around from planet to planet, just looking at the environments and creatures, getting eaten by a giant chicken rex, refilling my O2... I loved it.
And tbh, a lot of the new stuff in the game has kinda messed it up for me, cause there's too much now. There's so much overwhelming info about how to do things and tasks and quests, and I just wanna be a lil guy in my lil spaceship, flying around and looking at alien horses with cat paws.
Love the insights. And I would say you guys are doing a good job of steering away from the current socio cultural / political BS going on, especially now when it is a topic that is very hard to avoid. Would you consider reacting to the internet historian's Fall of Fallout 76 video as well? It would show you another not so good side of the gaming industry.
No Man's Sky is a testament to the difference between "corporate" game development that only cares about the bottom line, and people who actually give a fuck about their medium. If NMS had been by one of the big studios, like EA, it would have just been cut loose and left to rot. But Hello Games actually cares. They wanted it to be the best it could be, and so they kept pushing it until it was, without charging everyone every time they added shit.
Hello Games stumbled out of the gate, clearly biting off more than they could chew. But they didn't accept that as the end of the story. And that's amazing.
I hope u can watch more of his videos...its soo good!
