- After Xeno asked the chat which other game came back from the brink of failure, just as Final Fantasy XIV did in 2.0, Twitch chat told Xeno about No Man's Sky. In this video Xeno reacts to an Internet Historian video going over the story of No Man's Sky.

To be very clear - from the perspective of someone who's played it from the messed up beginning to this day, this is a story about one of the greatest cleanups and comebacks of any game in history. They got screwed, they pulled through, they never gave up, they eventually lived up to their promises through the whole hellfire. Massive respect for this dev team!
For real, no one can say that team didn’t have passion or the integrity to make things right, and more like their vision.
I wouldn't say they necessarily got screwed, I'd give evens on them making the game or running out of money before they could finish it if they'd had no deadline.
indeed
Is it possible to land on Astroids now? Genuinely asking as I haven’t played or kept up with it for years
@@UltimatelyPwned
No, so far asteroids are just things you shoot for resources.
To the couple of nerds in chat:
Claiming something with pride while backing it up with facts isn't arrogance.
Damn, people just wanna hate for the sake of hate, it's stupid.
it is twitch chat
Some people have a really hard time differentiating pride and arrogance.
They equate the two because they've done little with their own life. I mean who tf has time to watch a twitch streamer all day.
It's easy to equate someone who's proud of their work with a negative trait like arrogance, so as to make an excuse for not doing much yourself.
"I don't want to do X because I don't want to come across as arrogant."
Yeah I watched the original video quite a lot of times before watching this video and when someone said Sean was arrogant towards the end I was like "Really? When?". And I kept waiting... waiting... and waiting... and never saw a hint of arrogance. He seems like he's way too nice for this business and his story is remarkable
I figured they were just trying to bait Xeno into watching all the way till the fanfic section.
SO in this video, "Synthesis" was the update that had _just_ gone live. Well, since Synthesis, we've had:
-Living Ship (Exactly What It Says On The Tin)
-Exomech (Exactly what it says on the tin, an exocraft that is a walking mech)
-CrossPlay (again, exactly what it says on the tin)
-Desolation (exploring derelict freighters floating in space, weapons overhaul)
-Origins (revamped planet gen)
-NextGen (graphics overhauls)
-Companions (tameable pets)
-Expeditions (quickplay scenarios that unlock permanent rewards for all of your saves, past present and future)
-Prisms (more graphics overhauls, and changes to stuff on planets)
-Frontiers (Alien villages that you get to take control one of and help it grow)
The above updates also had other features listed throughout, improvements to early-game progression, improvements to item stacking, making certain things easier, introducing ways to upgrade your equipment, yadda yadda.
IE: A crapton of content. And they're *STILL* going at it. And they have *STILL* not asked for _one _*_single_*_ cent_ from the players. The base price of the game has risen a little, but for those who already bought the game, they have still not asked for a single penny. Not in DLCs, not in MTX, etc. There's a currency called Quicksilver that would normally be MTX in any other game, it's earned through multiplayer quests, instead of real-life currency.
Not.
One.
Cent.
Did HG ever ask of us beyond the purchase of the base game.
Meanwhile, at Bethesda:
"So you've got problems with storage management, do you? Boy, do we have a deal for you!"
*polishes Fallout 1st membership card*
Imagine an Indie team accidentally getting their game so hyped that it works against the game... and then just say 'fuck it, we will make it AAA with updates!' and holy shit if they didn't actually deliver XD
@@kinagrill Some indie games have this way of pushing out 3, 4, 5+ major updates even after the base game goes 1.0. Terraria, Stardew Valley, even Starbound the shell of a game that is/was. These little indie studios that have far less budget are able to give players free content updates regularly over the course of several years.
But yet Triple-A needs to nickel and dime you, $5 for this skin, $5 for removing grind, blah blah. They got huge budgets and they sell their games for $60, but here's some $10 game like Terraria and it was updated for how long again? 10 years? And they didn't ask for a dime and the game is frequently discounted to 50% during major steam sales.
I know, I know, Triple-A are like "but our games cost more money to make!" ... one, a lot of that money is mis-managed, two, they ask for $60, not $10, and three, they sell millions of copies.
TBH, I don't think they have an excuse other than pure greed and/or the shareholders.
@@Dhalin I guess passion for a game rather than 'we must make Assassin's Creed 16 Bahoogaloogaloo' AAA mentality seem to allow for a much more customer-supportive development team. Especially since by all rights Hello Games did not HAVE to do anything after release.... they could have broken up the company, shared the cash and went their own ways to work some middle-management job in some other company. But nope, they realized they'd fucked up royally and took it to hard and fixed what was broken, added something to the game, and remained consistent even to this day with more content, more updates, more features, etc.
@@Dhalin Blizzard was the shining outlier for a while there. Used to be they'd use the triple A cash to work on a project until it was either something to be proud of or clearly unfit, in which case they scrapped it.
The problem with triple A's is that it usually takes enough time for a studio to become one for the original founders (the actually enthusiastic people for which game dev was the dream job) to be phased out in favour of corporate people (who maximize profits, not player sentiment).
It's not that they need all that money or can't afford more free content, it's that their bean counters and statistics tell them they don't need to do more to keep their customer base, so they don't.
If it doesn't make them more money, it's not happening.
It made me so happy that your chat stood up and called out that one person for bullshitting about Sean's supposed arrogance which definitely did not happen.
That moment when Twitch Chat is full of Gigachads. Seriously though, I was happy to see that too, and that it was pointed out in this video as well, Sean is such a humble person, even after making things right! (together with his team, of course)
"He acts arrogant" is such a nonsense statement anyway.
The only way to tell whether a person is being arrogant or not, is whether "you think they seem arrogant" - it's not up to the person doing it, it's up the the person looking and deciding whether someone looks arrogant. It's completely subjective, and for the most part comes down to body language and tone, which - as we've established - is not Sean's strong suit.
@@LadyDoomsinger Damn straight.
@@LadyDoomsingerNo, the point when pride becomes arrogance is when you let a monster absorb 2 androids believing you still have a chance after the first one.
@@SprayInk-Kreatïv-Nouveaudid you just reply to a 1yr old comment with a DBZ reference?
I just realized: When that one random chatter mentioned that Sean gets "cocky" at the end of the video, I think he meant it in a LITERAL sense regarding the fanfic :D
I might be wrong, but its in my headcanon now, lol.
oh my god youre right...
This is one of my favourite stories in gaming. They messed up, they owned it and fixed it. NMS is really fun to play now.
Still not interested to return and I have it on Steam, I've checked it out before a year or two ago with a friend but it became incredibly repetitive still to the point where it does not feel that rewarding.
It's a railroad to nowhere basically. It's still extremely sandbox, and gives me Starbound vibes where they wanted to develop so much, but lost sight of their passion and goals and the whole reason they started, and left the game with content but no fulfillment.
Both have end games, but both games doesn't end so to speak so once you have it... There is nothing left but to quit.
A lack of replayability so to speak since Minecraft offered more of that.
What would have worked is if they allowed players to support and implement modding and their own gamemodes and such...
nah
It's nothing compared to what was promised... But yeah It's a decent waste of time these days if you are into exploration and spacetravel etc.
@@dra6o0n have you tried the Expeditions yet? They're re-doing the first four, with two weeks of each and the first one is still active for the next week.
@@dra6o0n sounds like to me you don't know how to have fun in the game.
but it's okay, maybe this kinda game is not for you.
The road to becoming the greatest reaction streamer is a long one but you walk it well Xenos. Head held high, every footstep unfaltering, never looking back and only focusing on what lies ahead, where the next reaction will come from with no regard for “content” or “originality” or those other trifling matters the weaker strummers care about
Wtf lmao
Not sure i agree exactly but most are facts tho
Only complaint I have with Xenos is he's sometimes too focused on chat while the video is still rolling.
@@Vulgarth1 I agree. But he will usually go backwards to understand what is being said, especially if it is shocking lol. I also like that he takes the time to pause and read text sometimes and also engage with his audience. And he doesn't come off as fake like a few other streamers do.
XqCREACTs is proud of him
Internet Historian is great. This is the video that got me into No Man's Sky. They just released the 17th major expansion to the game a couple months ago (all completely free). It's really good.
Unsure wtf the guy in chat was talking about with Sean acting arrogant. Seems like he is still just trying to hate even at this point
Yeah I called him out on his bullshit
yea based on what i was seeing, sean never showed any arrogance at all. im ignorant to a lot of the situation but just seemed out of place to me
Yeah I never saw arrogance, I saw someone who was terrified of disappointing people and it just turned into this self-defeating spiral of impossible expectations. He shouldn't have promised things that weren't possible, but I'm not going to hold a grudge about it for years and the game is fun now.
Tru it be like that sometimes 😔
For some more insecure or self-deprecating people, any kind of pride or joy that someone expresses in their success comes off as arrogant. It's a sad mentality, really.
I will never tire of this specific video, and people reacting too it. I absolutely adore and love the no man's sky story.
The thing is CD Project Red has the horse power to deliver the type of game that we expected them to. They have a huge team backing them up. Hello Games had 6 people expanding to 15. Yes Sean made some mistakes but Cyberpunk was more unforgivable seeing as they had the tools and didn't deliver.
@@dacomputernerd4096 idk man, even if they could fix the bugs, glitches and overall problems the story still feels lackluster for a game made by them.
Nah 76 was way worse
power won't fix what time constraint did. What happened to that is more complicated than any of us really understand from the outside. I won't say it wasn't their fault, it is.
I might buy no man sky just out of respect for their team; the bill board was wholesome as fuck.
I'm from a future where Xeno kept doing react content. The year is 2042, every human on Earth is bald. At 12PM and 2PM XCT (Xeno Central Time) we give thanks to our world leader for the utopian society he created by pointing out all of society's flaws and saying "stop being a fucking moron" about each of them. Inner Chaos can even be put on the action bar at long last.
What the heck 😂💀
we are in the correct timeline
Also inner release was renamed to Unchained.
Xeno Central time sounds like something from an early 2000s surreal movie set in a weird world
This comment sounds like it will end in an erotic fanfic
As someone who really hated it at release, it's amazing how much they improved it. It's a whole other game, now.
I played over 1000 hours NMS. Yes, it is good, but it's still an exploration game. I started making business creating a huge factory in a lava planet to mass produce sweet donuts.
Then, with the money, i started to destroy the economy of solar systems by selling a massive quantity of resources and then rebuying them in a lower price. I bought an expensive ship with combat frigates to do missions and basically playing the game for me.
I'm sure a ton of comments here have already mentioned opinions about the game's release and how it is now, but I'm gonna throw mine into the pile as well as a testament to HG and Sean's redemption.
I played NMS a little at launch. No doubt the hype was ridiculously overblown. I didn't hate it per se but I didn't like it either. Then, 2018 I got it on a sale for my PC, figured I should try it again. I was hooked only 3 hours in. They fixed a lot and added some amazing features, I really respect the efforts made and resilience in the face of inflated critics and community's rage. Impressive work ethic.
Edit 2 years later: it's still just getting better. The Worlds Update Part 1, v5.0, just dropped and is absolutely amazing
Warching strummer to No man sky story at work, it made my day. Tank you sp much Tank Beard Master Xenos
I will say this game was the most improved game in gaming history, this game is actually great now. Id highly recommend it now.
I never get tired of watching reactions to internet historian videos, man. So fun
I'd heard of it and avoided it, not knowing about it's revival. After I watched the tale of their engoodening I was so touched and impressed by their integrity to just sit down and fix the dang game I just instantly bought it. If I recall I even made sure it wasn't on sale because I felt that they deserved every cent that they were asking for it after all that they did.
Are you still playing it? :3
@@princeywissy Occasionally yes. Though there are a lot of games on my list. I check in with it now and then when the mood strikes me.
@@pcdeltalink036 I don't know if you saw the most recent updates but there's a new expedition coming out in 2 days.
The new update worlds part 1 added mostly visual and planetary variety improvements. The big things are volumetric clouds and completely overhauled lighting and water effects. The update came out a few days ago and depending on how long it's been since you've last played there was also overhauled space stations and other changes like craftable starships.
I definitely recommend playing it again, even if just for the coming expedition.
@@princeywissy Sadly, with working full time I've never had time for the expeditions (being an adult sucks). Also finishing up an online Bachelor's degree. When I do play it I mostly just run around, earn standing with the factions, and slowly build up the settlement I founded. Also since I finally got the capital ship I wanted been working on building that up along with a fleet. Have not played since the most recent update though.
And it's worth noting that there have been at least a half-dozen more significant content releases since this was published - the fifth anniversary back in August introduced settlements (as in small towns) you can become overseer of. But there were more. And they aren't showing any signs of stopping any time soon. I had a physical copy on release and not too long ago re-bought as a digital download partly to reduce disc-swapping, but also because I felt I'd got more than my moneys worth & they'd earned it.
Twitch chat: HE AcTeD ArRoGanT LatOR..
no smoothbrain. hes proud of his work
The Internet Historian is the best. I can rewatch his videos over and over, and still have a good chuckle. :D
i would love to see him react to all HI videos. they're all both funny and serious and reacting friendly. Even the adds have good plots
2 years in the future here. They just put out another FREE update that brings basically a whole new graphics engine tech that was developed for their NEXT game Light No Fire. They are using NMS as a beta platform for testing text for the LNF. And the kicker is the update is labeled as a part 1, so theres still more to come.
Oh please I need more of you reacting to Internet Historian, this is grade A content
It's been two years since this video, and NMS is still getting massive updates. We just had an overhaul to entire galaxy.
All still free, of course.
I've watched a cool streamer who actually loved Death Stranding's gameplay (called it the best 5 dollars he's ever spent), because he described himself as a "loot goblin", farmed MULEs for fun, and loved the idea of building a road system with the mutual help of other anonymous players. As Girlfriend Reviews once said: "Kojima doesn't want you to suffer. He wants you to help reduce the suffering of others." I don't think it's fair to call Death Stranding's gameplay abyssmal, but of course it's okay to not like it for your own reasons :)
Edit: The streamer's name is Nozzivix.
This is a good hero character building. Starts with a sacrifice followed by a fall, but through sweat and blood, powered by determination, the hero rise to honor and glory. "Never doubt in your past choices, all of your decisions lead you to this point". Respect to Murray.
Xeno react Andy content, and it's Internet Historian. I love this shit. If you keep watching Vtubers and gold like Internet Historian I'll have no choice but to resub to your Twitch.
just came back to this after they announced update 5.0, worlds update... its crazy how far this game has gone
Me too! It does seem unfortunately that worlds is among one of the last updates, but considering that there is at least two parts (possibly three because he tweeted three worlds) these are going to be some of the most substantial updates to the actual base of the game... I have a feeling the game is gonna be crazy by the end.
And after all of this, all the evidence that they are an incredible company I am certainly going to be buying light no fire and playing it consistently.
It's so nice being able to watch 2 bald men react to things.
NMS went from terrible to just OK but for some reason people insist it is amazing now.
@@themris I'd say good but u might just not like it
@@themris if u look at it from a price value and compare it to other franchises I would agree with some people.
I like to see how the Internet Historian do on The Fall and Rise of FF14
This was such a genuine heartwarming story.
The best about this, is that Sean did see this video and he did see the ending.
I've been playing since 2019 and it's an amazing experience. Some of the things you see are amazing and never see again in other games like it. And the community is amazing
As soon as I opened this all I cared was whether he watched the end bit or not, and I'm so glad he did 😳
I love watching reactions to this, because I absolutely love No Man's Sky. And I am all for Hello Games and their comeback story on the game. The fact that they've been releasing consistent expansion-sized FREE updates since launch, and are still doing so in 2024, is ridiculous. They've put so much work into making NMS what they promised, and honestly, I'd say it's gone well past that by now.
And then add in the fact that they managed to release a Switch port that, really, runs and plays way better than it has any right to.
I really want to see an updated version of this video going over all the new expansions that released since it was made.
NMS isn’t everyone’s cup of tea - I’ve had a lot of fun in that game - and if I need something chill, it’s what a usually choose. Don’t know what one of your commenters was talking about, I’ve never seen anything about Sean Murray being arrogant, maybe proud of what they were able to achieve, never arrogant.
SInce the Internet Historian video they've released like at least 9 or 10 updates to the game, with each their Load of new stuff and content.
-Exo armors
-Procedurial Abbandoned Space Stations dungeons to explore and kill aliens
-Expeditions, think like Seasosn in Diablo 3 or Leagues in Path of Exiles
-Alien/Animale Pets/companions that you can customize
-Up to 36 players in a single MP Hub
-And many more
Its the best Redemption Arc in Anime history
Keep in mind, this was a game made by an INDIE TEAM. not some AAA studio. It'd be an A-class game at most... yet overhype that people can't accept being responsible for themselves, along with some really bad choices of 'yes' for content from Shaun of course just made it worse. Still, he isn't a PR guy, he had no idea that a promise years prior would be seen as a 'yes' for something to be there at launch.
4:45 - Dude, the chuckles kinda synch up. Is this the matrix?
Arrogant? Whoever said he acts arrogant about it later couldn't be more wrong.
There are so many parallels between Shaun Murray & Chris Robert's and the development of No man sky vs. StarCitizen
Oh... now I get why someone said that Sean was "Cocky" at the end.
The best part about sky television is that i had never heard of it until this video
Not only this but they've added a shitton more since the video. Games incredible now
And no one talked about "production quality" of Special Edition :( This baby was done so "amazingly" it's lid (it was booklike case) would tear of or show wear and tear just after opening two times :)
you're finally becoming a react streamer, and i'm all here for it.
The hours i've spent watching reactions to this is sad to think about but no ragerts strummer
Fun fact: Internet historian sounds like the guy who made getting over it
Great video, I would love to see Xeno reacting more of Internet Historian's videos.
Dude this was fucking amazing lol. Wife and I bought this on release and have been playing it off and on ever since then. Good mindless fun dude you should pick it up.
My first achievement on No Mans Sky was on the 13 of Aug 2016, it's alot better then it used to be.
The most impressive thing? They're still making updates for No Man's Sky.
All free.
I've never been so glad to have bought the game after its 3rd expansion update
It's truly a blessing to see how much of an improvement it is now over the initial launch
My man xemo is on a journey! I love seeing you react to stuff and I’ve always thought you were entertaining before. But NOW? You’re just getting better ❤️ thank you strummer
Become what you must. Become the ultimate reactor!
Didn't notice Todd with a mustache till rewatching this.
I remember I preordered it and loved it, didnt find any bug, maybe because I was playing on ps4, then found out people hated the game and had no idea why, I wanted an exploration game and nothing else, and I got it
Since Beyond update, they released over 20 more major updates.
Best comeback story ever :)
Bruh when you showed Jim and talked about his glasses, and someone in chat said "Elton John?!" I fucking lost it. Jim is crazy haha he roasts everything.
I've watched several youtubers react to this No Man's Sky video, and I only realized now that Michio Kaku's telescope is belt-fed. XD XD XD
With all the beard talk, I unironically want a xeno video on what he does with his beard. I wish mine looked that cool.
1 of the greatest comebacks in gaming history
NMS and Sean Murray, will forever etched in video game development history.
Third video in a row Im watching from you on this new year's binge. I like that you clap at the end of all the videos you watch, so nice.
Every time I see this video or a reaction to it I end up wanting to play No Man's Sky.
i saw the original Video over 20 Times. And over 15 Reactions, too. And your Reaction is easily one of the best. I would like to see your reaction to other Videos from him, like "Weapons" or "Mythology". youre pretty cool dude!
Good guy Sean
He never got arrogant about anything. He just toughened up.
The person in chat always trying to emphasize how Sean Murray became arrogant later on when he didn't doesn't know what Arrogance means at all.
I know right?
First i was like "wait, did i miss something? I always thought Sean was a pretty amazing dude for pulling off what he and the team did with NMS.
But turns out the Dude doesn't know the difference between Arrogance and Pride in ones own work.
And to be fair. After the complete 180 Hello Games pulled, aswell as doing far, far more than anyone could hope for, for FREE mind you, everyone at Hello Games has every right to be proud of what they've accomplished.
and in 2024 yet another update is born the game looks better than the trailer in every way now we are just missing the giant dinosaurs but everything else is in it and much more
Of those 943 people left at it's lowest... I was one of them. I went through the crashes, the bugs, all the nonsense, and somehow, by some fluke, got to the center of the galaxy, and started a new one.
Turns out, it's the biggest, best redemption arc in gaming, and it hasn't stopped.
I knew NMS was a trashfire at launch and I knew they attempted to fix stuff later, but I had no idea it finally turned into a good game. Damn, I might have to try it out sometime
It's still a niche game and you might not like it, but they're still releasing free updates and expansions to this day.
No mans sky is a pretty good game now, even just the other day I think another big update came out.
Damn, finally a new face on his thumbnail, Pog.
I didn't buy the game in the beginning, but I did after they did their apology tour and it was on sale. I got it a short time after they had fixed it, and with everything they've added since for free, I'd say they did a good job of reversing course.
Great reaction bro, it’s nice to see a person who had no prior knowledge watch this video
Just gave the game a second chance 2 weeks ago.
Just in time for their expedition reruns too. They did well, I think.
I'd say historians video is outdated in No Man's Sky standards, constant updates new content, and polishing here and there. But the consensus is that it redeemed itself more than enough.
Basically everything and more in that original trailer now exists in NMS as far as i know.
23:52 "Sorry, sorry, I don't mean to keep interrupting."
- 11/15/2021 - A man making a reaction video with an absolutely laser-straight face and zero irony in his voice.
I understand why people don't like it but I loved the game play of Death Stranding personally. It is completely unique and figuring out ways to traverse the landscapes they created with the various tools is right up my alley. But again I get why people don't like it. Also it just feels different getting to certain cut-scenes in game rather than watching them all in a row on youtube.
I love how he freaks out at the fake beard on the left but not chicken man on the right :)
LOVE THIS GAME
If you haven't tried it's similar to final fantasy xiv in that it is a completely different game now compared to launch.
I basically play this as an explorer, always looking for my next favorite plant. I like to find all of the flora and fauna and collect all of the spaceships.
DUDE.... ! if you did a reaction to this, you MUST react to the "Fallout 76" Video from this guy ! If No Man's Sky is the happy end video, that one is the fucked up to the end Story :-P so funny. In general, Internet Historian is amazing, and amazing to react to. Even the stories not about games, like the 2 Corona Vids, Fyre Festival, Costa Concordia...they all are absolutley amazing.
I've seen the original video twice and missed the Shaq fu reference both times
Also for the whole PR thing, hiring someone to be your PR person but they don't really know what your doing and with how development was with their time limit. Having someone who isn't originally part of the development and doesn't know the pressure of the team. Anything the PR person said would have ended up the same way, like if you were hired because of your talking skills what would you even say about a game that is not ready for any of anyone's expectations and will not be ready by the standards of this giant company that has set their dead line. I'm just saying.
37:25 - What did this "SUPER FORMULA" go on to make? O.o
Hey strummer, are you gonna post you reacting to truck videos, that was hilarious
mid 2024, latest update was 2 weeks ago. they really did just get blasted into the spotlight with the sony deal and marketing. but they really did want this game to be great.
Dear god this chat was so cringeworthy. It's a shame when you glance at chat only to see the one vindictive person's unpopular opinion and have that lingering in your mind. These people have zero clue how to run a company, develop a game, deal with massive corporations, deal wth advertising, go up on stage with crippling anxiety, have every word you say be committed to memory by people you'll never meet, and treated like a figurehead or a demon instead of a human being. Those people don't have a shred of empathy in them, I swear.
I'm curious does anyone know if the whole thing that chat was saying about ginger ninja getting perma banned for whatever it was true? Cause I feel like xeno didn't address it so I dont know whats real or not especially because I'm not a twitch person and my schedule can't accommodate making it to streams sadly.
I think the bigest difference between Square Enix and Hello games is that you only need to pay to play the game from the later once. It's easier to fix a game while you have the support of people constantly paying for every single expansion AND paying a monthly fee to play it XD. It's not like Square Enix didn't had money to shove into their game, if hello games didn't had the money from the physical copies and if Sony's refund policies were as flexible as Steam's, I'm pretty sure Hello Games Wouldn't have the funds to actually keep the work on the game, maybe they would take way more than 12 months to actually fix the game.
i have watched pretty much every react to this video and not once did i notice the fake beard 39:38
Of the universe is so big why won't it fight me!
Thankfully the game was redeemed. It’s a lot more fun to play and updates periodically.
19:16 The reason I started playing nms, Jacksepticeye!
Como odio cuando uno de mis videos favoritos de todo youtube lo ve alguien quien lo ignoró por completo unicamente por andar leyendo su chat.
