    For the record, this was made before Living Dead was buffed in an Endwalker patch. You now have huge self heals attached to the "I am dead but not dead" side of the ability.

      yeah its awesome. its good enough that you can save yourself now, at least as long as you have something to attack. Still possible to have those kinda badass clutch moments where the healer is dead and you kill the boss within that window, only to drop dead right after (because that self-heal requires you to have something to attack).

    Arm’s length knock back is half the tooltip. Mainly it applies a shield that slows trash that hits you by 20%. That’s why it’s great!

    • @thomasnguyen4427
      @thomasnguyen4427 2 роки тому +3

    • @TheRealZiktus
      @TheRealZiktus 2 роки тому +1

      The tooltip does a very poor job at properly explaining, which is why a lot of people gloss over it. 20% attack and cast speed reduction on a pack of enemies is nothing to sneeze at and will reduce incomming damage massively. But going of the tooltip and not really knowing what slow does exactly makes it seem like some sort of movement speed debuff. I wish they'll update it to be more like other tooltips that include buffs, just so it is clear to new players what it does.

    "How to find a Static in your FC to Prog UWU"
    Static: A "stable" group of teammates that you will clear content with, like dungeons and so on
    FC: Free Company. Your "guild".
    Prog: Progression. Specifically used for the newest/hardest content. It's to specify that you're trying to do this content specifically to practice, as opposed to doing it to clear it.
    UWU: In this context, as was stated by multiple others below, it refers to the Ultima Weapon: Ultimate fight. One of the hardest content in the game (all of the "Ultimate" fights are)

      That whole section has one of the more crucial tidbits of people who come from tanking in other games to tanking in XIV - because of the inherent lag and netcode in XIV, it's much more difficult to kite mobs to avoid damage, and WAY more annoying to the DPS. XIV tanks should avoid moving, unless it's dodging a broadcast AOE, and even then if you're good you can move and move back before the mob itself moves, leaving the half eaten donut facing your monk's fists as much as possible.
      I can always tell someone who came from tanking in a different game because they try to kite the mobs around the room in circles and that just doesn't work in XIV.

      sort of but it's also reflective of the community dynamics. Unlike other MMO's you don't necessarily join a clan or guild (or free company in this game) specifically for the purpose of forming raid groups. A static is often people from various FCs coming together and organizing via Linkshells or Discord, and they don't even have to play on the same server either (just the same Datacenter, and even that isn't as strict anymore).

    I feel like tanks are essentially identical in how they're handled up to lvl 50. WAR breaks off before 60 when they get "raw intuition" (cracked mob pull self heal aka, invuln 2.0). DRK probably around 70 because of blackest night and GNB and PLD only really start to shine on the road to 90 in my opinion.
    Of course, all of that is provided you do not use invulns on mob pulls. Which a lot of people are afraid of (and for good reason) but is technically optimal gameplay since walltowalls in high level dungeons basically give you the option of making your healer hate you by withholding part of your cds or running one pull on all your cds (not at once but it takes longer to kill the mobs than the effect of the cds lasts) and then starting the next with invuln followed by the shorter ones coming off cd.
    Maybe 'hate' is a strong word, a decent healer can keep you up and at least you're using mit, but they will be required to pay a lot of attention to you and since most lvl 90 healers will have tanked at some points and met a number of good tanks so they know you could utilize your kit better. It's an open secret that at lvl 90 a good tank requires little to no healing (slap 3 ogcds on him and you're done healing, time to dps)

    2. Once the pull is established start a constant stream of mitigation starting with Rampart. Basically it's Long CD mitigation skill (rampart) -> short CD skill (every tank has one) -> Different Long CD skill.
    3. For the next pull start with Reprisal+Arms Length -> short CD skill.
    4. After this Rampart should be off cooldown and you can repeat steps 2 and 3.
    5. You should not need mitigation's for boss fights save for tank busters. Use the boss fight to refresh mitigation CD's. If the boss does use a tankbuster use your short CD mitigation. It will be sufficient.
    Until you get all your skills you'll use some variation of this for leveling.
    If you do this the healer should have no trouble keeping you up all the way through. This works for all tanks.

    You guys are officially one of my new favorite reaction channels! Your so full of life and personality! I love how you edit stuff in to compliment what your talking about rather then just assuming people can imagine what your referring to! Only complaint is it's hard to pay attention to both of you's reactions so I feel the need to go back and watch it again. I hope you react to more of Jocat's content! Especially the DND content with his "Crap guide to" series for the DND classes. I think it'd be fascinating to hear a WoW player's perspective on DnD of you aren't super familiar with it, and even if you are I think it'd be fun to see what you guys have to say about the various DnD stuff he talks about.

    All the tanks are wonderful, but keep in mind they really shine once you get their L70 skills. These are what I consider their first "identity capstones."
    DRK gets The Blackest Night, the best CD that's not an invuln button.
    WAR gets Inner Release. More Fell Cleaves? Hells yeah.
    PLD gets Passage of Arms, the "GET BEHIND ME!!" shield wings.
    GNB gets Continuation, turning your 3 hit spender combo into a 6 hit combo.
    As a tank main, it's okay to double-mitigate on tank busters. I do this on reflex so healers can heal less and for those moments someone yells "why didn't you take any damage!?!" With that said, knowing which CD's to use (as well as when to use them) is vital; extremes at min iLvl, savage raids, and one-off'ish boss mechanics will teach you that.

    As someone who also isn't into big axes or hammers: give Warrior a try anyway. It is SO MUCH fun. The animation and sound design just feel really heavy and visceral. When you hit with your big hits, it FEELS big. And the higher you level, the more it adds to that feeling.
    I levelled every other tank before WAR, because I wasn't into the aesthetic, but it really just feels so good to play.

    Here's a fun fact for you. The word for paladin ultimately comes from... royal guard stationed in the palace on the Rome's Palatine hill. Once everyone in early middle ages saw that they were cool, they started to call royal guards or just close retainers (since royal guard is essentially close retainers of the king) paladins, because they also wanted this cool new thing. The most famous appearance of paladins in medival sources is in Song of Roland, where they are Charlemagne's royal guard, also called Twelve Peers - they may have been the inspiration for Knights of the Round Table, or there was an older, lost legend that inspired both, or just the same trope appearing in two different stories.
    There wasn't anything particularly religious about them in these stories - well, beyond the usual standard of the time of making any and all positive characters devout christians. The Song of Roland is about fighting against the muslim expansion in Iberia, though, which is probably where the holy warrior idea in DnD comes from.

    FYI, the enmity buff doesn't reset because you enter and leave dungeons. It resets because you're changing levels, because being changed to a lower level will turn off ALL your activated skills. This is because when you level is lowered, those skills might not be available any more.
    The only buffs you keep through a level change are buffs you can have at any level, like food buffs.
    If you zone into a max level dungeon as a max level character, your enmity buff won't go away.

    Tank stance Reset is really only relevant in high end duties. Unless you are in your static, you will switch between main tank and off tank. If both tanks have it default on, and forgets to turn it off, it becomes quite chaotic on first pull. But i agree, especially for 4 man content, tank stance should be by default on.

  • @TriToneTiefling
    @TriToneTiefling 2 роки тому

    Aggro used to be a lot harder to maintain. In stromblood it was probably at it's most difficult. It was so important to maintain it, that raid groups would tank swap back and forth by doing what was referred to as "Shirkle-jerking". Where the Off tank would provoke to gain as much aggro -1 as the main tank, and the Main Tank would use "Shirk" on the Off Tank, which would lessen their aggro by 25%, and give it to the Off tank. So you would have this back and forth 3-4 times a raid instance and thats how people secured aggro in Stormblood. Once Shadowbringers launched aggro management became mindless and is basically a non issue now.

  • @gardianx5293
    @gardianx5293 Рік тому

    Yeah gunbreaker when you first get him it's kind of a mess. However, once you start unlocking the skills that are tied to its ammo gauge, it becomes incredibly fun. By level eighty you start stringing together multiple different sets of chains. First, you have your basic tray of attacks like every class does. But each time you perform that chain, you gain an ammo charge so once you perform that trio twice, you can set up a devastating combo of ammo based attacks while under no mercy. Then, after exhausting your charges, quick reload and create another chain of heavy combos before no mercy runs out. Gunbreaker gives up much of dark knight's self sustain for increased damage output to absurd levels. Later stage Gunbreakers are basically explode slash everything and amplify the damage as much as possible to kill as fast as possible.

  • @LadyFrostbite

    So no one really calls it enmity, you're more likely to hear it called 'aggro' and lesser still 'threat'. And if I recall correctly, tank stance only gets 'turned off' if you're syncing down for content (entering a dungeon, doing a fate); it stays once you sync back up to your regular level.
    On double tanks in endgame, the off-tank doesn't actually keep it off the whole fight now; it used to be true tho. After the last enmity rework, the off-tank will turn tank stance on after the main tank acquires substantial aggro, so it's not an oh-shit panic!provoke moment if the main tank dies. Once was running Syrcus as a tank and the other two tanks were fighting for aggro the whole time while I was just being a good lil boy and not stepping into that shitshow. Get to Xande, they're still fighting over it, and I had the fortunate foresight to turn stance on after they established aggro, because one suddenly died. "Hah, what are the chances the other tank dies too. Nah, right?" Second tanked esploded. And because I had established the next highest threat, I was able to just slide in and replace both. That makes me the hero. Be the hero. Know when it's safe to turn stance on.

  • @aidensadi
    @aidensadi 2 роки тому +1

    I am sure this has been said before in the other comments; but the Tank buff specifically turns off any time you are level synced for content. Dungeons, raids, fates, etc. If your level doesn't change when going into the content, your tank stance will not turn off :)

    over a year late to the comments but i couldn't help it.....
    15:50 "Paladin" actually comes from word for "Palace guard". Paladin, in latin "Palatinus" was a member of guard, "Scholae Palatinae", of Palace (this is also where the word "Palace" comes from) on Palatin hill. Later on it became general term for guard of any palace, which also by extension mean soldier dirrectly in command of the guy who owned said palace.
    In late years of roman history, this was officialy called "Auxilia palatina" and refered to the most tough and hardcore soldiers local governors had at their disposal. As the Roman empire declined, some of the newly free kings kept the term, most notably Charlemagne whose court, "The twelve peers" were refered to as "paladins". From this period we have the transition from ancient roman term, to early medieval meaning of the word "Paladin", the image of noble (christian) knight, propably the most important (historicaly) source being "The Song of Roland". It has to be said that this image is highly romanticized though, but it laid the idea of what medieval knight should be inspiring to be.
    ......yaaay history!

    I've been a pld guy since day 1, and i love it. To this day, it is the only job i play consistently, as while i dabbled in other jobs, i don't get the same satisfaction... one thing that i like a lot about pld compared to other jobs is versatility in its funtionality. While it doesn't reach the heights of other jobs in terms of potency, being the lowest damage tank, it is extremely capable and compitent at being consistently durable, with the right mitigs active, and has competent dps, and healing. A jack of all trades, so to speak. I also feel that a pld fits the motif of a warrior of light better than any other job, given their traits. A warrior dedicated to protecting the innocent and powerles from that which would do them harm, and provide a light for those whose paths have been clouded by darkness. The kind of warrior who would do anything to protect those around him, and shine a beacon of hope, where there is none, to inspire others and invoke the flame of courage in others in the hope that they will do the same for another. To be the last line of defence when all seems lost. To guide the lost on the path to righteousness and justice. To show the world that while the night is darkest before the dawn, the light shines through on a new day without fail.

    Tank stance doesn’t actually drop off every time. It only does so when they player’s level is beyond 50 and you’re queueing for content below the cutoff for the expansion the content launched in.
    You’re a level 90 tank. You can turn on stance and do 100 81-90 dungeons in a row and it will never drop. But queue for one at level 50, and it’ll drop.
