6:32 Check out my video on the cardiovascular system!
Today I will share the #1 food to naturally boost CoQ10 (coenzyme Q10). This helper enzyme is involved in making the body's energy, maintaining the body's energy, and reducing the byproducts from making that energy (oxidative stress and free radical damage).
The heart needs a lot of CoQ10 because it's the part of the body that generates the most energy. Many people take CoQ10 to support their cardiovascular function. The body considers CoQ10 as a very important survival helper molecule. The more CoQ10 you have, the longer the heart will last.
    Coenzyme Q10 benefits:
    • It supports endothelial function
    • It helps maintain the capacity of energy in the heart
    • It's involved in the contraction of the heart muscle
    • It reduces oxidative stress from the heart
    • It helps lower blood pressure
    • It helps reduce the side effects of statins
    • It protects the heart against muscle inflammation, muscle weakness, muscle damage, and muscle fatigue
    Things that deplete CoQ10:
    • Age
    • Chronic illness
    • Stress
    • Statins
    • Low vitamin B6
The best foods to boost CoQ10:
    1. Beef heart
    2. Beef liver
    3. Leafy greens
    4. Algae
    5. Red flesh fish (yellowfin tuna)

Hi Dr. Berg. My husband studied your videos last year and after doing 14 hour fasts, he lost over forty pounds. All his cardiology Doctors wanted to know how he did that and had no idea that his glucose as a prediabetic could improve so well. He knows science very well thanks to studying hard but still you knew a lot more. I just want to share how much more freedom he has to move and sleep better. Most of what he eats now is fish, steamed foods and very simple foods like soup and cheese. People tell him he looks young. Thank you for all you do because you are making a difference and people are reclaiming who they need to be. Good Karma and God Bless.

"Cattle naturally eat grass that gives their source of CoQ10." That is not entirely true. Some of the CoQ in their body may have come from the grass. However, most of it is likely generated from Tyrosine, which is synthesized in the rumen. Humans do not have a rumen, we are monogastric.

We switched from having chicken daily and beef once a week and salmon once every two weeks to beef every day and salmon once a week and just chicken broth a couple times a week, anchovies twice a week. All with Spring salad. Keto, and intermittent fasting, eating within 8 hours instead of 5. Berries, bananas, and green tea for breakfast. We already have more energy putting off the carbs and not feeling hungry. It's hard to make foods work when you're allergic to eggs, wheat, and dairy. Thanks for the video.

Dr Berg, please read this if you fancy a laugh: I watched your video with great interest - as usual - today and thought that beef hearts were a great idea to have on the menu for the reasons you mention. I put the message across to my friends about the benefits of CoQ10, and they agreed that it was most impressive. Then one of them asked how on earth were you meant to get beef hearts, given that they would be exceptionally difficult to get hold of. I replied that it surely wouldn't be that hard, from the local butcher or suchlike. My friend (whose sanity I am now questioning) asked why on earth would the local butcher be stocking beef hearts. I said that's probably what they'd do if you asked. My friend was perplexed. "Why would a butcher be stocking bee farts?" he asked again, and the penny dropped. I spent the next five minutes rolling around. Good grieeeef!! :D

*_You don't actually have to chew and taste beef liver, you could slice up 50grams into pill size and just swallow quickly with some water. From experience, the body doesn't want more than 200g liver in a serving, but I think 50-80grams of beef liver every other day is the way too go; also because of the high amount of Vitamin A, it can make you nauseous if over 200g and even over a week._*
*_If you pre-make hamburgers and freeze them, try adding at the same time some small chunks of liver to each patty or blend and mix well with the burgers. And if you just can't stand beef liver, try pig/swine liver. I detest swine liver, but not beef liver. Sheep liver is slightly gamey. Chicken liver is tasty. You might like that even better._*

Freeze them and then put the pieces in a Tupperware in freezer. Eat 1 piece each per day and watch and wonder how you never get sick. Also: any food you eat 1 x per day for a month you will not only begin to enjoy but crave (I learned this while traveling). I LOVE my daily frozen organ treats. Dr Berg, just so you know, I consider you to be my primary doctor ahead of my own GP. I told him about the wonders of keto (without mentioning your name) and he replied there were no benefits to it diet wise aside from 'personal preference.' However the evidence speaks for itself, and I cant thank you enough.
I have a question. I have a severe injury from years back this I must take opiates to manage the pain, and have for many years. Despite years of research I cant find EXACTLY how opiates affect hormones, bone density, libido, mood, digestion etc longterm. I.E. How *precisely* they are effecting the body. If you could do a video on this, and how to compensate for these, it would help millions, including myself. Thanks for everything, God be with you.
P.S. I have tried managing this pain through natural means. Its not enough thus the opiates are necessary.

After being on keto for a while I don't feel like driving off of a bridge anymore due to the pain. I handled my pain with Epsom salt and essential oil baths. I would suggest that you start weaning yourself off of those drugs because you've been taking them so long. The need for them might be partly psychological. A lot of MDs are just pushers. Prior to keto, I had injections and medications that I knew were going to be bad in the long run so finding Dr Berg saved my life.

I don't think Dr. Berg is going to do a video on opiates just because you want him to. Very few people would watch it because most people are not on opiates. Your doctor should tell you. If he won't, then get a new doctor. Also, you do know that opiates are addictive, right? It was a very bad idea to start taking opiates. I know your argument is that they were for pain, but there are lots of pain relief options out there, e.g. TENS, that are better options than opiates. ❤

Laura Swann I’ve watched my mother deal with severe chronic pain for years now- opiates are the ONLY meds that have afforded any measurable pain relief. Or I should say were-the only other relief she has gotten has been from medical marijuana. Which (IMO only) should be legalized everywhere so people can get off opiates. She is elderly; she had a TENS unit installed in her back, which gave almost zero relief; unfortunately there’s no fix for what’s wrong structurally for her spine; she does indeed have a frozen colon; and she was darn near suicidal from all of it. We literally tried it all before succumbing to the inevitability of opiates. I’m not attacking you personally for what you said, but I’m guessing you haven’t experienced first hand the effects of chronic, long term pain affecting someone close to you. It changes your loved one totally. Almost no one wants to go on opiates for long term, but there is a very real crisis ongoing for people suffering long term pain that have very few choices for some form of pain relief. Please don’t dismiss someone’s experience quite so lightly by saying there are other choices available, because there aren’t. And they are going through a very real form of Hell on earth.

Dr. Berg, I am curious as to your opinion regarding the more species-specific diet that emphasizes the macros of fat and protein? You recommend a lot of plants in your videos despite the fact that plants a) contain anti-nutrients and non-nutritive amino acids and b) the fact that all fiber is indigestible despite its purported benefit to the gut biome. Plants and fungi contain none of the essential amino acids required by humans.

Look up Jason Fung. He talks about dawn phenomenon. Basically what that is means when you fast your body starts to burn stored glucose especially if there is alot stored commonly seen in obese, diabetic, and people who intake high sugar and starchy foods. So in conclusion if you checked your fasting glucose its possible it could be high although you did everything "right". The dawn phenomenon effect kicks in right upon waking up naturally because its trying to use glucose for energy. Also depends on last meal eaten before starting fast. If you had even a little too much carbs at your last meal it could make your glucose reading higher
