শজ্ আর ব্রডওয়ে যখন হয়েই গেছে, তখন এবার লালবাজারের সিসিল বার হোক। অনেক কাল খোঁজ রাখি না, জানি না এখন কেমন হাল, তবে যখন পকেটে বেশি রেস্ত থাকত না, অল্প বয়সের কলকাতার বারবাজির কথায় সিসিল বারকে তো রাখতেই হয়। আপনি অসামান্য ফুডকা।
কলেজে পড়ার সময় 2001 এ প্রথম ঢুকি। পরের চার বছর বহুবার গেছি। চাকরিতে ঢোকার পর থেকে যাওয়া কমে যায়। শেষ 2024 এ ক্যামেরা গলিতে গিয়েছিলাম ক্যামেরা কিনতে তাই ঢুকে পড়েছিলাম আবার সেই পুরোনো স্মৃতির হাত ধরে। বেশ লাগে ওখানে একা গিয়ে মদ্যপান করতে করতে কয়েক ঘন্টার জন্য পাশের অচেনা ব্যক্তির বন্ধু হয়ে যেতে।
I don't get the part "hypocracy". No one is talking hypocracy here. You are mentioning it. Much as you would like to think no one gives a damn these days whether someone goes for a drink after work. It is a personal choice.
I had the opportunity to the shaw's with my friend 40/45 yrs ago(firstly) later...number of times. I think then smoking was not restricted inside... the barman's were very homely... Your blogging reminds me of those days. Thank you.

This bar was the go to place for all of us field sales reps after a painful day at work. U very rarely knew who would be sitting next to u but still struck a conversation with him for hours. Along with the booze u got pickled ginger while snacks like liver fry would be brought from outside. Very unique experience of dining at Shaw Bar for a good 3 yrs.... Loved those beautiful years in Kolkata
Kolkata means Quality food at low cost, Peace and love. Next time i visit Kolkata and when i go to my favorite shopping Destination New Market, i will definitely go to Shaw Bar to chill and relax .
This is probably the only old bar in Kolkata that I’ve never been to. Back in 2012-13, I actually tried, but 24-year-old me was stopped at the gate because Shaw Bar was the only place that actually enforced the No Entry Under 25 rule. Every bar has it on paper, but this was the only one that took it seriously! Not sure if that rule still exists, but fate (and cheaper alternatives like Oly, Broadway, Goal Bar, and Tripi) ensured I never made it back. Maybe it’s time for a long-overdue visit-this time, legally!

Same concept in bars in Europe (Germany, NE, Sweden, Poland, North Europe). Pay when you buy the drinks. However usually the bars here in Europe doesn't serve any food :). You eat at home and then come for drinks.

The specialty of "Shaw" is its low prices, good ambiance, and a space similar to a coffee house where people can gather. It also has the charm of an old, classic place. The day it starts charging high prices like other bars, it might lose its appeal because most people come here mainly for the affordability. Your next episode could be at "TITO's Bar."
Being a bar hopper, মৌলালিতে থাকার সময় প্রায়শই যেতাম। মালিকরা সম্ভবতঃ তালতলায় বসবাস। Food and snacks টা মেট্রো গলিতে বেশ কিছু vendor রা supply করে থাকে । শুনেছি, মালিকরা quality ওপর নজরদারি করেন । আরও একটি জায়গায় সস্তায় drinks পাওয়া যায়, সেটাকে আমরা বলতাম 'পিসির বাড়ি' অর্থাৎ Police Club at Daker's Lane. ওখানে আগে বেশি ভীড় হোতনা, এখন খুবই ভীড় হয় । Probably cheapest bar.

১৯৭১ সাল থেকে মাঝে মাঝে যাই। অবশ্য Not Regular visit. মামা, দাদা বন্ধু নিয়ে 6:49 বিভিন্ন সময় গেছি। প্রত্যেক barmen accomdative. টেবিল বাজিয়ে গুলাম আলীর গানও গেয়েছি। মাতাল বা মাতলামো করতে দেখিনি কোনো গ্রাহককে। যে যার capacity অনুযায়ী drink করেছে, পাশের টেবিলে বসা অন্য গ্রাহকের সঙ্গে বার্তালাপ করেছে, কোনো অশালীন ঘটনা ঘটতে দেখিনি। Price-ও খুবই reasonable. 👍

Loved the video on chhota bristol ❤ you'd be quite surprised to learn that in spite of living half of my life in Wellington Square, very near Chhota Bristol and frequenting Metro Goli, Opera, New Cinema, Janata Cinema, Metro, G. C. Laha stationers in fact on a daily basis i never entered Chhota Bristol till this day, I am not Aware of the reason though.. visited Chung Wah, Olympia , Broadway etc.but somehow i gave this place a miss.
